It's been a while since we last chatted. Since then, you've put another state championship trophy up on your mantle.
Doc:
We played our best at the right time of year. We were completely prepared to beat the teams we played and our offensive style put us in position to take advantage of our opponent's defensive weaknesses.
JeremyLin.Net:
Tell us about your gritty Asian American point guard who'll be back for her final year.
Doc:
Marissa Hing is one of many of our great players that is fun to watch. Non-stop energy and runs our system very well. We're looking for her to have a great senior year before she embarks on her college career at UCSD.
JeremyLin.Net:
And for those who don't know, tell everyone how long you've been working with JLin.
Doc:
This is the 4th summer I've worked with Jeremy.
JeremyLin.Net:
How is he looking this summer?
Doc:
I really like how he's shooting the ball. So smooth, efficient and rhythmical. The concept that I like most now is that he really knows his shot. His mechanics are consistent and he's shooting at a very high drill percentage.
JeremyLin.Net:
What have you guys focused on with his shooting this summer?
Doc:
The focus this summer with his shooting is to continue the work we've put in and add situations and more conditioning and variability to his workouts. We've varied the shots and spots and constantly change things up to keep the work fresh.
JeremyLin.Net:
I hear his floater is looking good.
Doc:
He's worked a lot on his left and right floater this summer so I anticipate it becoming part of his finishing repertoire.
JeremyLin.Net:
How do you simulate game like shooting situations when working with him one on one?
Doc:
The game like situations have come from playing lots of pick up this summer. I think this important aspect should result in a better 3 point %age this year. There's no reason why he can't shoot 40% from 3.
JeremyLin.Net:
He looks like he's slimmed down a bit..?
Doc:
He looks great to me. I think you're probably judging that observation on the pictures after China where he lost some weight.
JeremyLin.Net:
How do you see his fit with the Lakers compared to the Rockets?
Doc:
I'm hoping he gets the ball in hands and can play the point where he can show that he can run a team and be a creator like he was with the Knicks. The positive side of playing with the Rockets is that he did learn the nuances of playing off the ball. Learning to attack defenses off the catch is now a weapon for him.. With more of a shooter's mentality (fearless and cunning) He will have a great year.
JeremyLin.Net:
Anything else you can share with all of his fans?
Doc:
He's motivated and ready to play great with the Lakers!
JeremyLin.Net:
Thanks so much for your time Doc! Please let everyone know how to get in touch with you if they're serious about becoming a better shooter.
