With the hiring of Doc Rivers, the Clippers look like a lock to keep Chris Paul. Thus, ending any speculation that he could be joining the Rockets. Jeremy looks like he'll still be a Rocket next season but lets wait and see what happens to Dwight Howard in the next week or so.
Clippers' hiring of Doc Rivers as coach impacts futures of Chris Paul, Kevin Garnett - Yahoo! Sports
This is not a done deal for Lin. He still can be shipped out with Omer for the D12 package. Not to mention that Chandler Beiber Sasquatch Parsons relentlessly LUSTING for D12 to come. Maybe by having both Omer and Lin out, Parsons can have more money for his contract extension and make himself a big 3 with D12 JH13.
ReplyDeleteJust get this over with please, I don't want Lin and Omer in Houston anymore
One week to go... then the fun begins!!!
DeleteHaha yeah, you mean the circus is coming to town, oh boy
DeleteYes the free agency circus! Free Lin!
DeleteTell me why getting Lin and Asik in return for Howard makes sense for the Lakers. Tell me how it makes them a better team on the court. Tell me how taking on those contracts - especially the balloon payments due to both in 2014 -helps the luxury-taxed out Lakers financially. And tell me how having a starting center who can neither score or defend in the low post helps the Lakers win a title, instead of merely make the playoffs.
DeleteAfter you do that, tell me how playing on a team where Kobe Bryant dominates the ball is any better for Lin than playing on a team where Harden and Melo did. Or do you think that Bryant is going to be any more willing to alter his game to accommodate Lin than Melo was? Or that D'Antoni would be any more successful in getting his way in Los Angeles against a guy with all those rings in Bryant than he was in New York with a guy with zero in Melo?
I don't know which is worse: the likelihood of the Lakers trading Howard for 2 non-stars, or the idea that playing with Bryant/World Peace/Gasol is somehow better for Lin than playing with Harden.
Everyone is right. Unknown makes good points too.
DeleteI think we hope Nash is injured or retires or simply is out of gas and that Lin eventually takes over at PG or plays SG while Kobe can hide on D and play SF.
D'Antoni likes Small ball anyways...
What I would like to see is the Lakers go for Lin, Parsons, TRob/Draft Pick, and Asik or let DHo walk if Houston won't do it or call Houston's bluff.
PG - Nash, SG - Lin, SF - Kobe, PF - Parsons, C - Pau. Or have Clark start at PF and Parsons as 6th Man (or have Lin at PG, Kobe SG, Parsons SF, Clark PF, Pau C).
I do think Lin will have a better role in Laker town because Kobe is more of a scorer ballhog whereas Harden just hogs the ball and wants to be a Kobe ballhog AND the playmaker ballhog. Also D'Antoni will give Lin more minutes and better mentoring while building Lin's confidence.
Will it be a lot better than Houston? No, but it WILL be a step up for Lin to go to the lakers on many fronts. Will it happen? Realistically, it's unlikely...
I dont even think the Lakers really wants him to be honest...
Oops I meant Pau PF, Asik C, Lin, Kobe, Nash, with Clark and Parsons off the bench and a some other young legs...
Deleteif Lin and Asik leaves, Rox will possibly crash and burn as they will continue to do iso after iso because they don't have to deal with Lin and Harden sharing the ball anymore. Harden runs the show like he was partially doing all season.
ReplyDeleteLin and Asik will be fine with Lakers. Asik and Lin are very important factors to them if they think so, because w/out these 2 Rox wouldn't be near playoffs either IMO. Realistically I hope the Rox continue to build on what they have last year and just acquire a cheaper or a PF, it will still make them contenders, I just really believe that Lin and Asik are important factors in Houston making it to playoffs, they're equally as important as Parsons and Harden.
Also they're already making waves so really if they don't get anyone, they'll still be ok because they're only getting better and they're young. I hope they build a championship team and not buy one.....

DeleteYeah, maybe the Lakers can send a 3rd string guard like Chris Duhon or Jodie Meeks to the Rockets, so Clutchfans can go crazy about how much better they think he is than Jeremy Lin, and at half the price too!
DeleteYay! We got Chris Duhon ... Morey is a genius !
lol
DeleteDeleted without trace again? Awww COME ON?! What is wrong with saying Rockets will not win anything as long as baboons like McHale and Morey still in charge? Seriously
DeleteParsons don't understand that if Howard joins the rockets his future is uncertain too. Do you really think rockets are going to build on Parsons when they want a core of 20 mln big 3 player? Parsons' contract is ending so if the lakers or whoever ask Parsons with Lin and Asik i don't see rockets deny them the deal. In this way they can sign another maximum player this or next year (iguodala, George, melo .....)
DeleteMorey probably told Parsons "I've got big plans for you" and so Parsons thinks he's going to be one of the Big 3 of Houston. But what Morey didn't say was, "I've got big plans for you as trade bait!"
DeleteKnowing Morey I'm pretty sure that's exactly what happened :D
DeleteParson strategically hired D12's agent this off season. He in many ways is now protected. Lin needs to learn to protect himself.
DeleteI've seen Chris Paul when they told him the Clippers signed doc rivers.... Wow... He didn't say anything.... He just said i don't know i was with my kids etc etc...
ReplyDeleteMaybe the soap opera ain't over yet :D
if you want to see that it's on espn
Someone like CP3 who is so good at flopping, do you think he would give outright honest reply like, oh yeah, i told the management to sign Doc, else, i won't consider returning to LAC next season... :)
DeleteYeah everyone knows Chris Paul got Vinny Del Negro fired. But he's like "What? Me? Noooooo!" Like Mark Wahlberg's acting in this movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Rq-7zEVuwI
DeleteCP3 is 100% staying in LA, even if LA doesn't make a single other move this summer.
DeleteThe Clipper soap opera is 100% over and complete. I am 1000% positive. If I am wrong, please have the OP perm ban me for being a clueless imbecile on how CP3's mind works.
LOL @ the Clutchfans still holding out hope that Chris Paul will suddenly turn around and backstab Donald Sterling by signing with the Rockets.
DeleteRivers departure marks end of an era for Celtics
DeleteCP3 is a done deal. Doc is coming to the clips with the clear understanding that cp3 will be there.
ReplyDeleteCP3 strong armed the clips to sign him and they had to give up an unprotected 1st pick. This was a power move on his part.. No way the clips would've done it without some reassurances from cp3 that he as a result will be staying.
Looks like Lin is going to stay in Houston. All that's left is where d12 will end up. My bet is still on the lakers.
That would be the worst case scenario. CP25 already dying to have orgy with D12 and JH13 all season long. I think Rockets will move heaven and earth (in expense of Lin and Omer) to get D12. I just Lin can wind up in a team that suits, trust, and willing to have the ball in his hand most of the time somehow.
DeleteI still don't believe jlin will stay in houston cause they're trying to offer him to everyone in the league and for other reasons ... I could agree with solidz... I've got a little sense he could be traded to the lakers with Asik. But for now we'll have to see how the big names will move (cp3 d12...)
DeleteI don't think Parsons is protected. I think Parsons hired fegan just cause he wants load of money after his contract expires....
The Rockets would be more than willing to give up Lin and Asik to get Dwight Howard. And you know what? So would every other team in the NBA. The reason: Dwight Howard's value exceeds the combined value of Lin and Asik. So, the team that gives up Lin and Asik and gets Howard in return wins. An easy, no-brainer move that all things being equal any franchise in the NBA would make.
DeleteSo you have to ask yourself: if it is such a great deal for the Rockets, why on earth would the Lakers make it? Exactly. And keep in mind: the Lakers don't have the same regard for Lin that you do. And they particularly have no use for Asik. The Lakers only want big men who can score in the low post as part of a set offense, not garbage men who have to live off putbacks and being totally ignored by the defense. In Los Angeles Asik is a backup, and there is no way a backup gets that type of contract when Los Angeles is already way over the luxury cap from having to pay their stars.
You guys are assuming that the lakers are interested in Lin. In fact, I haven't heard anything to suggest it. The last thing I heard is lakers will not do a sign and trade, get more cap room and wait for next year to perhaps go after Lebron.
DeleteD12 is really a smarmy dude. I just dont think he is willing to leave the lakers with all of their ritz and glory. He is clearly playing games... But in the end I think there will be enough promises from the lakers to keep him. Conversely I don't think the lakers value Lin enough to do the sign and trade. We shall see.
Only way the Lakers even consider Sign&Trade is (1) DHO says he is 100% leaving S&T or no S&T. Until DHO commits to Houston or another team, the Lakers can call his bluff and play chicken with him. I'm sure DHO wants him money above ANYTHING else. He's not Lebron and Harden is no Dwade so don't expect DHO to sign for less than a S&T max deal.
DeleteIf DHO is serious about leaving, maybe then Houston offers Lin, Asik, Parsons, and TRob and or another nice piece to the deal, maybe the Lakers will listen. But Lin and Asik alone are not nearly enough. It's better than the Afflalo garbage deal Orlando got, but the Lakers are not the Magic.
As Solidz says, Lin is going to stay in Houston probably about 95% certain even if DHO walks to Houston. I doubt the Lakers will do a S&T unless they get Parsons, Lin, Asik AND a draft pick/TRob while trading DHO and other Laker garbage on their roster right now.
I believe there is a 5% Lin goes to the Lakers and I believe DHO will only move in a S&T. Houston will have to cave on a lot of pieces like Parsons and draft picks to get the S&T done with the Lakers. Otherwise, DHO will have to walk over to Houston without a S&T and I doubt he will do it despite what he claims or says.
Lin and Asik, if traded, will happen this year. Isn't it true that due to their third year arrangement, no team will want to pay either of them the $15m they signed with Rox? The average per year $8.3m counts towards the cap but the new owner has to pay either of them the inflated $15m in the third year.
ReplyDeleteIn order to trade them, the Rox will pay part of the salary. Morley is going to make his move soon. I still don't think the Rox will be a contender with Howard minus Lin and Asik.
DeleteThe bigger issue is that the Lakers won't see themselves as a contender WITH Lin and Asik, which is why the deal won't get done. The Lakers don't have any incentive to make it. The Lakers are FAR over the luxury tax. Adding the $40 million in salary for one guy who isn't at all-star level yet unless he is in a system that the other Laker players will never agree to play (Lin) and another guy who will never be an all-star no matter what system (Asik) makes absolutely no sense to the Lakers. It makes sense to Lin fans. Or at least to Lin fans who won't concede that the Lakers will always be about Kobe, and after Kobe will always feature a big man whether that big man is Howard, Bynum/Gasol, Shaq etc. and if anything Lin would trade being a 3rd wheel in Houston to being a 4th wheel on an older, lesser team with far bigger egos (and the rings to justify their egos).
DeleteThe third year salary thing may force the Rockets to deal one of them and keep the other, or to deal them to separate teams. But finding 1 team willing to take on that type of salary for 2 guys that are seen as no more than contributors at best (and in the case of Asik is actually true)? Not going to happen.
Here is my scenario of what I think is going to happen: Now that CP3 has locked in Doc Rivers for HC, now Clippers go after D12. I live in LA, and it is a well known fact that Howard likes LA, but doesn't like the pressure of being a Laker.(two many giant foot steps to follow: Jabbar,Magic Johnson, and Shauque). Howard can't deal with the criticism from these players and the fans, because these are just too many big shoes to fill for Howard. He is good defender, but he has no post game. If Howard comes to Houston, he will not be held accountable for his game and once again Rockets won't win a championship.. McHale/Morey certainly won't, an neither will the fans. If he stays in LA with the Lakers or the Clippers, he will be held accountable for his game, whether it be the fans, former Laker players, or if he goes to the Clippers(will be CP3). I think now that they have the deal done for the coach, Clippers might go after Howard. Griffin/Bledsoe will be packaged up for some sort of a deal. Also Demarcus Cousins is making noise about leaving Sac. He wants the max extension, new owners in Sac don't want to make that deal. So I see the Rockets going after Cousins, and giving up Lin in some sort of a deal. Lin is a hometown fav in Sac, and they need a PG. So if Rockets can't get Howard, then I see them going after Cousins. Also I am really sick of Parsons. People on here saying that is being smart, yeah right. He is being so obvious that it sticks out like a sore thumb, and it is disgusting to watch him these days. he has not fooled anybody whatsoever in what he is doing. Parson's is one of those types of people, who has no loyalty to anybody except himself. Lin needs to wake up to the fact about him. He is so fake and he is a name dropper wanna be. He is acting like he and Howard are buddies(yeah right). Also I noticed Harden hasn't weighed in on Howard coming to Houston. Isn't he the face of the rockets? I hope Howard goes to the Clippers or stays in LA, and I am pretty sure that Houston will go after Cousins, and even better that Lin ends up in Sac.
ReplyDeleteNext week we're gonna see what happens day by day. I do like Lin in sacramento cause of michael malone but i don't think the kings give up on cousins before the season starts. I'd like atlanta too... But for some reasons i think if traded jlin will end up in purple and gold.
DeleteDon't forget NBA do not see in a good way a possible kg/jordan trade... So everything can happen....
Can you imagine how Asik feels right now about Parsons? All things considered,
DeleteAsik had a solid if not very good year. He had a couple of 20/20 games. Who in the league is doing that? Plus, Asik should be better this upcoming season. Even if Parsons feels that way about Howard, doesn't he consider his teammates feelings? If the trade doesn't go through, he's poisoned the locker room.
I can tell you. Asik knows that guys who can score in the NBA will always be more valuable than guys who can't no matter what else they bring to the table. And not only can Parsons score when Asik can't consistently, but Asik also isn't a shot-blocker, can't defend the low or high post and can't pass. He isn't even an effective screener because he picks up too many fouls TRYING to play defense to risk them attempting to set screens.
DeleteInstead of worrying about what Parsons feels like, Asik needs to dedicate all his energy to getting better.
Asik obviously knows he needs to get better. But it is still effed up his teammate being so vocal about getting his replacement.
DeleteI presume u wouldn't feel annoyed by your co-worker trying to get your replacement hired and in stead and turn the blame on yourself for why u suck so bad.
You can tell how Parsons wants Asik go when Asik did not catch his passes lol
DeletePeople forget that Parsons is a product of the point guards he's on the floor with. First it was Dragic, then Lin helped him. He does not create his own offense, and anytime he tries, it usually results in a turnover. Clutch can rave about Parson outscoring JLin all he wants, but anybody who watches the game will see that Lin sets up Bieber off the drive and in transition.
DeleteSometimes Asik will find Bieber with a long outlet pass off the drive, but that's rare, it's usually Lin's court vision and making that long pass.
I agree with ABC to some extent, but Parsons was scoring big in the playoffs without Lin to feed him. THe Houston system is a PG-less offensive system. So I do think Parsons will score regardless whether Lin is there or not. Maybe Lin gets him an extra 4-10 points any give night but I don't believe Lin has that much effect on Parsons alone...Lin's effect is more on the team overall.
DeleteI still find it funny that everyone is so convinced that the Lakers - or anyone else - will trade Lin and Asik for Dwight Howard or any other all star. Lin's 13 ppg/6 apg/107 career starts plus Asik's 12 ppg/complete lack of low post offense or defense or passing ability does not equal an all-star. The GM or owner who makes such a move would get run out of town. A team would rather let an all-star walk and try to fill his salary with a guy of similar ability/reputation than replace him with guys that are nothing but pieces. Even if Jeremy Lin is seen by the Lakers and other teams as more than a piece, you had better believe that Asik isn't. It isn't as if the Lakers are deluding themselves into thinking that they can contend for a title next season either. The Lakers are now an over-32 gang with its leader, Kobe Bryant, likely to miss well into next season. They'd just be adding salary for a shot at the 8th seed and getting run out of the playoffs in the 1st round.
ReplyDeleteAs much as you want to see Lin get away from Harden and McHale, the Lakers aren't going to mess up their long term rebuilding plans to accommodate them. Also, don't think that the Lakers are going to embrace Lin as their leader. This situation isn't New York, which hadn't won a playoff series in almost a decade and no one had any confidence in Melo or Stoudemire (and for good reason). Guys like Kobe, Metta World Peace, Pau Gasol etc. aren't going to defer to Lin or play his style because of their years in the NBA and collection of rings, and having D'Antoni as coach - who doesn't have anywhere near as much respect or power in L.A. with the media and organization as Kobe and the other players do - isn't going to help. You think those guys are going to let Lin come in and take their spotlight in their city with their franchise that they have won all those titles for, and go along with it because a coach with zero rings who was unemployed at the beginning of last season says so? Please, come back to reality, and away from the place where the Lakers would believe that they can win an NBA title with Omer Asik as their starting center. Seriously, Omer Asik would make Laker fans nostalgic for Vlade Divac and even Elden Campbell.
I agree Lin is not going to Lakers. LAC has a better chance of getting Howard than Rockets now that CP3 and Rivers will be at LAC. Also, I don't think CP3 wants to play with Harden because he wants to run the show.
DeleteI also agree that Lakers is not going to "embrace Lin as their leader", which means they will not want Lin. Lakers might want Lin as a back-up (not saying Lin is a back-up material), but he costs too much for a back-up.
DeleteDon't get me wrong, the Lakers would love to have Lin as their starter. They just wouldn't want Asik as part of the deal, and they especially do not want to go down in history as the team who traded Dwight Howard for Lin/Asik (especially Asik). If they could get Lin in town some other way, they'd be thrilled.
DeleteI am just saying that if Lin did go to L.A. it wouldn't be Linsanity. It would be more of a Derek Fisher/Mario Chalmers type role.
Face it, folks want Lin in L.A. because they believe/hope that a reunion of Lin with D'Antoni would mean a return to Linsanity. Even if it does for the first half of the season when Bryant is out (and that would require some guys on the Lakers roster that are both able to play Lin's game and willing to, which is very debatable) it ends the instant that Bryant comes back. Kobe Bryant has already stated that he wants to play 3-4 more years, and make no mistake Bryant will retire as a Laker. That will be as the unquestioned ball dominator of the Lakers' offense and leader of the team, not as Lin's Landry Fields/Scott Novak of Linsanity 2.0 in L.A. It would be worse than playing with Melo - who isn't even a ball handler like Bryant - and at the very best no superior to playing with Harden. Harden at the very least is still a young player who can still adapt his game to coexist with Lin if he so desires and the coaches dictate it. Bryant has no reason to change and isn't going to. Both Lin and D'Antoni would be shipped out of town before that happens.
Again, the Lakers would love to have Lin on board, but that wouldn't be Lin's team or anything close to it until they stop trying to win one last title or 2 with Kobe.
I don't see how Lakers will win another title within 2 years. I just don't see it. Only way Kobe can win another one before he retires is if he goes and joins OKC or Heat.
DeleteWhat if they get your idol Lebron in 2014?
DeleteEvery NBA team thinks they have a shot at signing Lebron in 2014. This is why it won't be easy trading away Lin and Asik this summer. Heck, Rockets are having a hard time moving Thomas Robinson and his measly 1.4 million to make room for the salary hog Howard.
DeleteLeBron is not my idol. I don't like him that much as a person or persona. I just think anytime a player establishes himself as the clearly the best player in that game, that is extremely hard to do. When you are the Messi of BB, that's saying something.
DeleteLbj is nowhere close to messi. He could be the cristiano ronaldo of bb.... Both overrated. If you say Lbj is like messi you haven't seen messi play. Messi is a magician and is skillfull. Lbj got power and refs on his side
DeleteI mean u seem to regard Lebron very highly and thete is nothing wrong with that. I hate his guts but I do recognize that he is a great player.
DeleteI don't like Lebron because of his giant ego, conspiring with Wade and Bosh to form a Miami "Super team" , and his flopping.
DeleteHowever, even I can admit, Lebron passes the ball a lot more frequently than his Cleveland days. He makes his team better by drawing the defense and finding open shooters.
This is something I don't see in James Harden. And I don't think he can change this. Most team scouts have figured out that if you cut off his drive, he will most likely throw up a bad jumpshot. Or pass it to a Rocket teammate with 2 seconds left. The Beard was exposed in the 2nd half of the season.
Yes. And the refs caught on to his antics and stopped rewarding him free throws toward the latter part of the season and the playoffs. And that severely limited his effectiveness as a player.
DeleteI'm interested to see how this team performs next season. Whether Lin or not, I don't think this gimmicky offense can take u very far.
Spotless, I watched Messi play many, many times. Even though their styles of play differ, both are clearly the best player as of now in their respective sports. CR is close to Messi, but close 2nd. I am not saying their styles are different; what I am saying is that it's incredibly hard to be be considered the best in one's sport; and I consider LeBron the best NBA player right now (for several years), as I consider Messi the best player for several years. In this respect, they are similar. Messi is a magician, but LeBron is just a powerful player? Give me a break. LeBron is like a Balotelli who can dribble and pass.
DeleteBy the way, anyone who says CR is an overrated soccer player does not know soccer. He may not be able to dribble like Messi, but he can score in any way; and has finished 2nd to Messi in FIFA Player of Year awards several times. If it were not for Messi, CR would have won FIFA POY 2 times.
DeleteCR is closer to Messi than KD is to LeBron; that's how good CR is in soccer. He dominated EPL in addition to La Liga soccer; that's damn impressive and shows his versatility and power.
Correction: I am not saying Messi and LeBron's styles of playing are similar; clearly, their styles differ. But what they clearly are is that they are best players in their respective sports. That's what I mean when I say LeBron is "Messi of BB." Not anything else.
DeleteAlso, LeBron is not going to Lakers while Kobe is playing there. Riley is a smart guy and will come up with something to keep LeBron in Miami.
DeleteThat awkward moment when you realize that it has been so long since linsanity that you forgot Novak's first name (Steve, not Scott).
DeleteI guess ya'll don't know soccer that much, Christiano Ronaldo is closer resemblance of LeBron in basketball. Both are just physically dominating in the game (too big, too strong, too fast, too good) and while its true that Jeremy is more of like Messi of which in soccer called as Fantasista, the magician. A player who is not totally bound by tactics and have more free role to make plays as they see fit. A player who flair and x factor.
Jeremy Lin is the Messi, Zidane, Rui Costa, Boban, Maradona, Zico, and Pele of basketball but sadly nobody else sees it that way.
Hmmm ..Lebron refusing to team up with another superstar for glory and fame? Come on dude - history tells otherwise. I know u like his game but let's not make him out to be a fair competitor. He will always look for the path of least resistance. This is exactly why I think u idolize him.
DeleteSolidz, by the time LeBron joins Lakers, Kobe will not be all that good anymore. He doesn't want Kobe telling him what to do, and Kobe doesn't want to be seen riding on LeBron's coattail to win a title. At least with Shaq, Kobe was somewhat on equal footing.
DeleteTo say both CR and LeBron are just physically dominating players is to insult their skills; they are both physical players PLUS very skilled. I hesitate to link Lin's name with Messi.
I can't stand both balotelli and lebron :D both overrated :D Spurs prefered Lbj got jumpers and not attacking the rim: have you ever seen a great player been marked like that? Have you ever seen Kobe free to shoot? Pierce? Spurs decided to do that and if it wasn't for injuries, refs and inexperience of role players they'd have another ring. Well of course they're old too....
DeleteIf D12 really wants to play for the Rockets, I wonder why the Rockets will trade Lin+Asik to the Lakers, they can just sign him outright after trading TRob for a future 1st or 2nd round pick.
ReplyDeleteRockets can either try the twin tower format or simply trade Asik + Tjones to Atlanta for JSmith and they have a complete team. I would think Atlanta would love to do this trade if they were strike out of D12.
As a Lin fan, I have no problem where he would play for as long as he can improve his games until his contract expires. By then, he should be a much better all around player and he can choose a team with a coach that he feels its in his best interest. I have confident that teams will line up for his service by then.
So.. Chandler Parsons is a basketball player or business man for Rockets? He has a close relationship with Morey, the head leader and Mahale, the head coach, asking them to get D12. He's got some commercial ads. with D12. I think all this because, it is only for himself to get more money and more fame. This type of person is so ....................
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I strongly hope Lin traded to Lakes or Mav.
cunning person25 knows nba is a business
Deletealways hope that jlin wld end up w/ the mavs, the only team w/c saw his potential, they wld make sure to put him in a position to succeed and not plot against him and sabotage his carreer
lakers, had their chance to draft lin but they didnt. they were not interested, still not interested and will not be interested
If Lin joins the lakers they will be contender for sure and if you think they will not you don't know jeremy. Nash hasn't won a ring yet Kobe wants to win all the time and Lin is a competitive guy. Lakers fit perfectly against miami: if they play with a center Asik is a beast in the paint but if miami play small ball Asik will go to the bench and metta will mark Lbj. Jlin will play like harden in Okc: sixth man to increase the lead and then finish the game as a 2.
ReplyDeleteWith this kind of team the lakers will win the western conference title and we'll see if they can handle the miami c-heat....
Jlin will win his ring and in the future i hope he could be the backcourt partner of his buddy Steph curry
It's just wishful thinking. The Lakers are over the salary cap, they can't afford any big contracts, period. I understand most Lin fans want what is best for him, and to play a style and system on a big stage like L.A. But it's not happening this year.
ReplyDeleteI don't even think Lin wants to play on a big stage. He didn't like all the attention he got with the Knicks. On camera he looked really uncomfortable, like the paparazzi were aiming guns at him instead of cameras. He was often trying to hide his face or stare at the ground.
personally, I don't think D12 or CP3 will go to Rox - HOU is too small a pond for the BIG FISH.
ReplyDeleteThey may "flirt" with Rox FO for a while (just like what Nash did with NYK last year), but eventually neither will consider Rox at all.
I still think Rox should "forget about D12/CP3, just get Karl".
Somehow I have the feeling that if next season nothing (especially the coaching staff) is changed, I'm afraid Rox will not get into playoff at all.
Agree. Rockets will get some other players; actually, that may help Rockets more than getting Howard. Howard's FTs sucks and he can be a liability in many ways.
DeleteWhat about the Utah Jazz?
ReplyDeleteThey've got Paul Millsap and Al Jefferson as unrestricted free agent power forwards who'll probably be let go so that they can develop their young talent in Enes Kanter and Derrick Favors.
I think there's a chance that either Millsap or Jefferson ends up signing with the Rockets. I also see either of them blossoming with Lin on the Rockets.
Now if Lin and/or Asik are shipped to Utah, that would excite me. Lin is exactly the player that young Utah needs to feed its growing stable of athletic talented players.
Oh yeah. Karl Malone is now a Utah assistant coach. It would be interesting to see what effect the Mailman has on Jeremy Lin in terms of court swagger and physical toughness.
Does anyone know who else Jeremy's agent represents? It seems to me he let Jeremy sign a horrible contract that is preventing him from getting offers from other teams. This poison pill thing is like a bullet in the brain. I wonder if Jeremy's agent has any words of consolation for him through this humiliating trade nightmare. Ugh
ReplyDeleteRose, Jeremy Lin got the most guaranteed dollars he could've gotten for 3 years.
DeleteLin didn't get any other contract offers last year, so this is the best he could get at the time.
I was very happy for Lin when he signed the contract, and I'm still happy for him. $25 million guaranteed is big money for a player who has more than earned it with his play.
I understand your feelings, Kuang. Thing is, I don't think Lin is as much about the money as he is about growing as a player and building his career. Yes everyone wants money and Lin will use it for his philanthropic pursuits, I am sure, but I think Lin has worked really hard to become a pro in the NBA. If he winds up on the bench for the next 2 years and collects his 16 mil., I don't think he will be happy.
Delete@Rose, the last time I checked, Lin's agent Roger Montgomery is only representing 2 other basketball players, Maurice Evans and Sonny Weems (Playing in Europe somewhere). That's all.
DeleteThe current contract was negotiated by Lin's second agent Jim Tanner, I think.
DeleteMontgomery is still on board with Lin.
Actually, Jeremy is primarily repped by super-agent Jim Tanner (with Montgomery in a secondary role).

Release parsons? Why don't you like parsons? He and lin are friends and they play together well.
DeleteParons lust for D12 to come to Houston, a player like Dwight Howard can't be let go to another club for nothing. Any team what want to be part of the trade have to give something and have something in return. Knowing this Parsons still asking for D12 to come which means Omer and Lin must go so the money can be used to give D12 massive contract and also more money for Parsons contract extension.
DeleteSorry but I just can't believe Parsons is a genuine Lin friend. Never was, never will
A person who is a "true friend" of someone but openly humiliates, insults the other person who is honest, hardworking, kind and did no harm to whosoever, isn't a true friend of any person, imho.
DeleteI get all the hate against Parsons but how has he openly humiliated Lin?
DeleteI do question Lin's naïveté surrounding himself with and trusting all these people who are not doing much to elevate his status and brand, but lets not make up stuff.
Parson isn't interested in elevating Lin's brand. He is interested in elevating himself. Lin needs to learn that if he wants to stay relevant in this league.
Remember even Tyson "bad mouthed" Lin after he left the Knicks.
U guys are now making stuff up.

ReplyDeletevia, is that Finch in the pic?
Lin is seen jumping high to make his 3pt shot in this pic. Some posters(swing as one of them) here say it may not be the best way to do it but I think if opponents play tight defense on him, wouldn't it be better for him to jump high and make his shots? But then again I am also thinking jumping high consumes energy and Lin will get tired easily if he needs to make more 3pt shots...anyone can enlighten? Brent? Swing? KHuang?
--------------------------------------------------------------
Posted here cuz just saw your post in the prior thread.
Taking the "jump" out of the jumpshot is the most effective way to produce repeatable makeable shots. The idea of bball is to shoot open shots created out of ball movement and driving and kicking.
Ideally, you should never be shooting contested hard shots. And thus jumping to the max on a jumpshot should not be necessary.
Now there are times, you may have to jump as high as possible to get off a 3 point shot where the shotclock is winding down or where an athletic center with long arms is running at you. But those should be far and few inbetween. In those situations, yes you better jump to the max. But if that's the norm, your team stinks and you will lose badly.
It is well known that old pro players lose their jump shots because their legs get weak, and players in games have their legs go out from fatigue as the 4th Q nears. Thus, minimizing the jump is ideal and produces a shot that is good regardless of the power in one's legs. CP3, Nash, Irving, Novak, Bonner all use the minimum jump approach on open 3 point shots. Taking the jump out eliminates a huge variance and will improve results.
Back in 90's, everyone was coached to jump to the max on all jumpshots. Everyone jumped on their jumpshots except guys like Magic and Bird and people mocked guys who didn't jump on shots or had set shots and gave Magic and Bird passes since they were close to 6 foot 10. Now, in today's game, it's the norm with a lot of guys. David West hardly even leaves the ground on his shots. Pau Gasol, I don't think he even jumps on a long shot or his brother...Dirk? yeah his knee goes up while his toe is 1 inch off the ground..
Only Ray Allen uses a real jump even as an old player but his calves and legs look abnormally strong. Most guys just dont have legs that strong. Danny Green is another example and he jumps high but he faded in game 6 and 7. Plus Allen and even Green don't run all over the court like Lin does on both ends. Lin uses more energy which is even more reason to use minimum jump for open 3's.
I think Lin naturally jumps that high on his 3's because he is athletic. I don't think he's even trying to really jump at his age. It's probably natural for him. But there's a reason guys like Westbrook, Wall, and Lin etc, aren't worrisome marksmen from afar. They are inconsistent because they use too much legs in their shot because they are too reliant and use to their athleticism. And they do wear down at the NBA level within the game.
If I was in Lin's ear, I would train him to get use to creating max seperation while perfecting a long range shot that relies on a minimal jump. He doesn't need to jump more than 1 inch off the ground.
But if you note, guys like Lebron jump even on his long shots, and jumping is a sign of athleticism. And perhaps that why Lin jumps, it's just natural and it's athletic to do so...
For midrange 2's and stuff, yeah in the NBA you HAVE to jump as high as possible to get it off unless you set up your defender, but even then it's tough not to jump hard to get shots off in there.
And finally if the D on Lin is that tight, Lin should be driving and blowing past his defender, not jump higher on his jump shot.
Sorry for the long post, as you can see, I'm not a fan or believer of max height uncontested jump shot.
Appreciate so much for your long and insightful reply, swing.
DeleteSo Lin is jumping high because of his athleticism but like you've rightly pointed out, he's worn out towards the end of the game and that prolly also explains why his performance in the second game of back to back was affected... Lin hasn't played minimum 4 games in a more intense playoffs series but it isn't difficult to gauge by his regular season performance that he prolly would be wearing down by the high jump shots too, coupled with the help defence that McHale wants him to do.
Great analysis. I was just thinking the same thing recently (while watching a compilation of his '12-'13 highlights).
DeleteWould love to hear JLinFan ask Doc Scheppler about this next time they speak.
As Lin gradually ages, he no longer be able to jump high or if he does, he will be wearing down faster...shouldn't he start practising jumping lower...
DeleteLin spent the entire last season learning about the NBA.
DeleteNext season he'll return as a much more polished player in all aspects of the game, shooting included.
Lin is jumping high on jumpshots because he's being trained to shoot a certain way.
DeleteThat's why Lin needs to stop going back to Doc Scheppler, and find a professional shooting coach and trainer. He's not preparing to play in high school basketball ... this is the NBA.
He also needs to learn new moves with the ball, like a spin dribble to get around defenders ... his first step is not enough to get past elite defense.
This I do not understand, does High school coaches require their players to jump high to shoot??
DeleteNo. He teaches GIRLS to shoot like that. If u look at WNBA, Jeremy has a very simillar girlish shooting motion. Don't know why he surrounds himself with these people- whether agent, shooting coach, or trainer. Forget loyalty. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. He needs to do what's best for him.
DeleteExactly, the way that high school girls shoot the ball is completely different compared to the way a grown man shoots the ball in the NBA. Teenage girls use more legs in their shot, because they have less upper body strength than male athletes. The mechanics are very different.
DeleteI don't think there's anything wrong with Lin's crew. I'm sure there are arguably better trainers, but seriously Lebron could be trained by Lin's crew and he's still Lebron. My point is it's more about the player and his work ethic than his trainers.
DeleteFirst off Lin does know how to shoot a ball and he shot well in games at times. It's just there's times it looked like where he misses 3-5 shots and he goes cold or stops shooting out of fear or second guesses himself. And I feel if he adopted the minimum jump approach, it could eliminate those situations sooner where he second guesses his shot and gets varied results on his jumper where adrenaline is pumping high or low.
I think that's Lin's flaw - the fact he doesn't have insane belief yet in his own shot. Hopefully he'll get closer and closer to that with each passing season and off season training.
Many players do still jump with good results and perhaps, Lin is more a Ray Allen jump shooter than a minimal jump guy. The minimal jump guys are usually headier players who lack athleticism on some level. We may be shortchanging Lin's athleticism. It may be that he is perfectly fine jumping to a decent height on his jump shot and that he just needs more reps.
I'm not trying to second guess Lin and his crew. I'm 100% sure Lin knows what he's doing and what's best for him. I would like to know however if he's ever even thought about or been consulted on practicing with a minimum jump for his uncontested open shots esp. since there are many pro players out there who shoot a really high percentage that way now even in the NBA.
Female players jump LESS than men. They use their shoulders more.
Deletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xK_9tH6X6bs
So I wish Jeremy would shoot more "like a girl" (like Nash and Bonner).
If Lin was getting results, of course we wouldn't second guess him. Lets see how he does upcoming season. I still think josh and fix are not qualified to handle a world class athlete like Lin. To be honest, I don't trust Lin's judgement.

Delete"The Houston Rockets are doing anything and everything they can to move AARON BROOKS or CARLOS DELFINO in conjunction with the draft before they're forced to just let them go in order to create as much cap space as possible for the long-planned pursuit in free agency of Dwight Howard."
ReplyDeleteThat's sad, the Rockets need to clear almost half the roster ... so that Dwight Howard can be paid the absolute max $20.4 million contract. The NBA Team Salary Cap is $58 million ... so Howard alone will be paid more than 1/3 the salary of the ENTIRE team.
DeleteThis next season Harden's max contract also kicks in so make that 2 players almost 2/3 of the entire team if I'm not mistaken
DeleteAnd the beloved son of McHale, Morey are demanding a min $10mil/year contract. wow, the payroll is going through the roof!
Deletesorry, i meant 2014, the year Lin and Asik poison pill finally kicks in, Parsons will be a FA and his market value is easily at least 12X increased, according to rintintin.
DeleteThe poison pill doesn't do anything to the Rockets salary cap situation. Lin and Asik still get paid $8.3 million each, which is a good bargain.
DeleteTheir actual salaries will be $15 million but every NBA owner is a billionaire who can afford to pay the salary.

The best thing lakers could do is a sign and trade for Lin Asik and robinson and give up Howard blake and duhon. Then they should draft seth curry who is a brilliant 3 point shooter so jeremy will have his buddy to do handshakes :D
ReplyDeleteThere is serious problem that needed to be addressed first. Unfortunately last season was wasted because The Rockets catastrophically ruin Lin's career and value so bad that I presume the rest of the NBA are unwilling to take the risk (pay Lin's contract).
DeleteThat major hurdle need to be passed first
I don't think so. Lakers cannot say to Bryant and nash we're gonna waste a year and the best they can get are Lin and Asik. Lin still has a market in asia and around the world and the presence in la of asianamericans could earn the lakers big money, same as in new york. With the trade i showed lakers got rid of blake and duhon bad contracts, the roster become much younger and the bench will improve. If they want to save more money they could amnesty metta....
DeleteSpot, that is what we would like to think, not what actually they are thinking. We may think all the positive about Lin but the real question is Do the Lakers front office and the rest the so called "Lakers nation" think of Lin as better just as we think?
DeleteI have tried to look around some "Lakers fan site" mostly view Lin and Asik very negatively.
Fans just want "so called stars"... Don't care about them. It's like jeremy said, he will always have doubters. Anyway if lakers want to waste time irking Kobe and nash and gasol... They're free to do that. Lin stays in houston? Give him the ball and it'll be more than 10 assists per game. Lin in sacramento? It'llbe 20/10... Or in utah like khuang said.....
DeleteAgain, its not about what we think, its about what they think of Lin. They(GMs, coaches, players) have control of the team.
DeleteWill they be willing to pay Lin's contract when they don't even think Jeremy is as good for it? Will they be willing to give him the time and the ball? Will other players won't get jealous when some chinese guy take their spot?
All are big ifs at this moment thanks to terrific season McHale and Morey gave Lin
Lakers were willing to take a chance on Ramon Sessions in 2nd half of the 2011-12 season, and he completely disappeared in the playoffs.
DeleteBut obviously Lin will not be judged by the same standard due to his race, background, etc.

DeleteThis 78%, is it a magic number or what? lol Doc said the same number 2 yrs in a row as well.
DeleteWhether it's 78% or 90%, doesn't matter because he is shooting by himself in a gym. In real game situations that number will not be as accurate. Jeremy didn't become a 40% shooter until the 2nd half of the season, when I think he had time to practice with the Houston shooting coaches. Doc Scheppler did not train him during the NBA season.
DeleteI think that machine counts both of their shooting. Stuck at 999 because it can't display any higher.
DeleteMaybe Joe effed it up and brought the percentage down. Maybe Lin is shooting like 90%. Do we have an Asian Steve Novak in the making?

Delete"Taipei, Aug. 27 (CNA) Jeremy Lin's shooting coach said Monday that he is confident the first NBA player of Taiwanese descent will continue to make his mark on the league.
"Based on our workout this summer, he's a much better shooter than he was last year this time," Doc Scheppler said on the sidelines of a basketball summer camp in Taipei at which Lin was appearing.
The NBA sensation is currently in Taipei for a nine-day stay, during which he will take part in the basketball training camp for young players and attend evangelical gatherings.
Lin, whose meteoric rise early this year with the New York Knicks attracted widespread attention, signed a three-year, US$25.1 million contract with the Houston Rockets last month after the Knicks decided they did not want to match the offer.
Scheppler said Lin's shooting percentage now ranges between 78 and 82 percent."
Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. It looks like based in his percentages, Lin hasn't improved much.
DeleteI don't know how much Lin is paying him, but at some point u gotta make a change if he is not improving.
I'm beginning to think this doc is a total fraud. Wish somebody would call him out using same percentages over and over.. And ask him what specifically about Jeremy's shooting has improved and how the 78% from last year is different than 78% this year.
Well, but in the end, we need to see how Lin shoots next season to see if we need to call Doc out.
DeleteThanks for the quote, Brent.
DeleteI figured out the mystery of the magic number. It's clearly due to a faulty basketball machine that always shows 78%. =)
Too bad Houston couldn't get Chris Paul (and trade Lin).
ReplyDeleteLin's not going to be able to play his game with the Lakers either. Kobe runs the team, not D'Antoni. D'Antoni could be fired any moment. I hope Dwight stays with the Lakers. They deserve each other. =D
I guess you meant they destroy each other.. :P
DeleteJust to.make things clear, i really hope jeremy stays in houston and for some reasons Mchale give him the ball back and let jeremy run the show. The player who will benefit the most will be Dwight Howard cause if you think of what he did with Tyson chandler what he could do with Howard? He easily could be a 20/10 player. And harden and Parsons with that space could get hot very easily... The future could be bright ... If houston want it....
ReplyDeleteAnyway harden and Howard are two primadonnas ... Still don't know how could they gel each other...
DeleteSeen what rockets' assistant gm said about lull ... No way Lin will stay in h-town. He'll be traded to atlanta or lakers this year to get Howard and josh smith. Lin and Asik of course....
DeleteI think Llull will be brought in the roster because Morey plans to let go of Brooks? feel free to correct me though
DeleteIf Lin doesn't improve his shooting this year and ends up further diminshing his brand, I think he himself will be partly the one to blame.
ReplyDeleteHe has so much leverage as a player but continues to rely on people who fails to help him. Whether Its doc, his cloutless agent, his trainer josh or whomever, no offense to them, but I don't know if thy are capable of getting Lin to the next level.
If his game doesn't improve this year, he needs to move on from them. He can keep josh around but doc really has to go. Just SMDH at Lin'a staunch loyalty at the expense of furthering his career.
Yeah, plus these guys are probably making money off of their association with Lin. Doc and Josh Fan are probably looking to sign book deals or cash in on the fame. They aren't sticking with Lin for free.
DeleteWow hang on here guys, give Jeremy some credit. He's an intelligent guy far wiser than most people his age. When you become famous all of a sudden, do you trust the people who were with you BEFORE you got famous? Yes. Because most of the people who come AFTER you get rich and famous are only after your money. Let's see how this season goes before we declare that the people around him suck. Remember he started last season injured.
DeleteDave T, it is not an easy decision to make for sure. We were simply saying, sometimes you need to have good results to justify.. that's all.
DeleteYeah I understand. Just my opinion that, especially in the long run, Jeremy is making the right decisions.
DeleteI could not agree more Solidz75! I have been saying the same thing for a while but nobody seems to care who Lin works with. Remember the saying, "diamond cuts diamond."
DeleteWell Dave T, I hope you are right. But when he is not getting the results from the same person year after year, he needs to make a change. He has a lot of money at his disposal to invest in the best trainers, coaches, etc. if you had the money snd the opportunity, would u go up Harvard or a holmely community college?
DeleteU need to learn from the best. U are not looking for hanger-ons. U looking to use professional services.
If I see Lin playing consistently at a subpar level on the latter of a back to back, or his shots falling short because he is gassed at the end of the game, or missing shots wildly because his technique is all effed up - then he needs to make a change. This is is the important devrlopmentsl stage in his career. He just can't afford to give these losers chances over and over again.
in Jeremy's case, it would be much better if he trains with an actual player who played in the NBA. I don't mind Josh Fan as his personal assistant and probably Scheppler as a secondary shooting coach or something like that, but both doesn't have that NBA playing/training experience that Jeremy could really learn and benefit from.I don't think that its backstabbing or questionable loyalty; its a matter of improving and moving forward. just because he gets an actual coach who played in the NBA doesn't mean that whoever it will be will be cashing in on him.
DeleteExactly, it's like if a homeless man suddenly became a famous and wealthy celebrity. When he is sick, should he go back to the doctors at the Free Clinic for treatment, because they treated him before he became famous?
DeleteOr should he treat the best medical care that his money will buy ?... it really is his life on the line here.
Seeking second opinion is never a bad thing to do.
DeleteLin may talk to some other professional shooting coaches to find out if there is a shooting technique which requires him to tweak slightly but offers much more effective and better shots. His tenure with the Rox isn't all that rosy as it first appeared to be and he has the urgency to fix any deficiencies if it's obvious to even non sport professionals like some of us here.
I absolutely agree if the results are no good Jeremy needs to look elsewhere. But so far he's had 1 real NBA season, coming off knee surgery, in a horribly negative environment (McHale). It's really too early to say that the results are no good. There's no need to listen to my opinion, but at least trust Jeremy's judgement a little more. He knows basketball pretty well too.
DeleteTowards year’s end, I spoke at length with a well-placed individual within the Rockets’ basketball ops specifically about Lin’s development. When asked, in contrast, about which traits made the very best point guard—Chris Paul—truly great, he responded, “the ability to dribble the ball at different heights.”
DeleteI think what is frustrating about this Doc character is that he says Jeremy is shooting well, but by going by the percentages, he has been shooting the same percentage the last 3 summers. I mean even with the injury he was recovering from last summer, he was shooting the SAME percentage. To me that is a cause for great concern.
DeleteUnlike you, I am beginning to distrust jetemy's judgement. I think he lacks that "business" like selfishness u may need to get ahead, and cares too much about loyalty or hurting people's feeling.
I hate his agent- not sure what effort he is making behind the scenes to help Jeremy get ahead ( perhaps has no power) . I hate that he is passive aggressive- almost turning all the blame on himself when there is no need. Just things are beginning to bother me as this year was a monumental step back in his career.
I hope he proves me wrong . But I just wonder how much he is willing to sacrifice to get ahead in this game.
if your professional life is on the line, you can get better results if you are mentored by people who are/were "been there, done that".getting a trainer who played/trains on NBA standards will surely help him up his game. they can give an honest, brutal assessment on how Jeremy's game is improving.heck, if someone who played as or trained PGs in the NBA is training Jeremy and gives an assessment of Jeremy's shooting at 90%, it kind of leaves little to no room for doubt.nothing against Josh Fan and Doc Scheppler, but how many NBA players have they trained? I wouldn't mind them as secondary coaches, but Jeremy will benefit and learn more if he is trained by someone of NBA-caliber. Jeremy is a skilled guard who is excellent at leading the team and a reliable scorer.his game will be polished and sharper by getting ex-NBA players as trainers, and it is nothing new like some kind of trend.
DeleteIt reminds me of all the Chinese athletes who were naturally athletic, but never saw their full potential because they chose to stick to their national team coaches and trainers.
DeleteLi Na became a much better tennis player after she started learning from Western tennis coaches. Yao Ming learned all his post moves from NBA level trainers. However he did not take the advice of Western doctors, which led to chronic foot injuries.
ABC Baller, good points.....
DeleteSergio Llull now wants to play in the NBA this season, bad or good news for Lin?
ReplyDeleteLin is a much better scorer and distributor. The only thing Llull brings is defense ... which Beverley already plays.
DeleteBringing Llull over is easier said than done, he's already signed an 8 year contract with his Spanish team. Houston will need to buy him out, and that's not cheap. Plus, Llull has never played in the NBA before, and his game may not translate.
Never trust morey....

We are all Lin fans so I feel I can share honestly, hopefully without being judged because ultimately we all want Lin's success and happiness. The trade rumors are upsetting to me because it proves what many of us felt this season; that Houston (McHale) doesn't want Lin. As Lin fans, may of us are offended by this . Lin was set up to fail by the Rox org, and he managed to help his team despite that. However his victories were never acknowledged and his failures were shouted from the roof tops. I feel like Lin's fan base has diminished as a result, does anyone agree? His market value has fallen as well, it seems. The pressure on him is even more extreme, at this point. I agree with those of you that feel this is it. Lin has to figure out how to get consistency with his shot, decision making and defense this year. It is now or never. It is a shame that this extraordinary young athlete is faced with a rare and biased scrutiny that no other player of his age and experience has to endure.
ReplyDeleteOne more year like the last, his fan base will get even smaller.
DeleteRember that he was on the verge of superstardom before all came crashing down.
I blame rox first and foremost..morey and Mchale equally for undervaluing Lin yet again.
I also think Lin is without blame, not using the leverage he has to further his career - just playing the role of typical Asian kid listening to authority and never speaking out against what everyone could see as a clear "injustice".
I realize Lin is devout and cares more about playing for HIm, but he needs to realize that if he wants that platform to spread his message, he needs to succeed in the nba.
In some aspects, I think he is just throwing away the rare opportunity to break thru the barrier by staying so egging passive.. And blaming himself for the predicament he has found himself.
Next year will be key. Not sure if I can watch Lin become further marginalized on this team to the likes if Mario chalmers. I'm really hoping he turns it around and gets his career back in track. He won't have an injury for people to use as an excuse next year.
Rose, what Jeremy Lin is going through isn't that different from what foreign players went through when they first entered the NBA.
DeleteThe perception back then was that international players weren't tough or athletic or quickminded enough to compete in the NBA. That's why a big time superstar like Emmanuel Ginobili was drafted 57th overall.
Today, international players are considered smarter and more rugged than NBA players. That's because once they got to the NBA, they showed they could compete. But it took waves of them to prove that, including Drazen Petrovic and Sarunas Marciulionis and Arvydas Sabonis and Vlade Divac and several lesser know players like Zarko Paspalj, Predrag Danilovic, Alexandr Volkov, and others.
Jeremy Lin as the first Asian American star of the modern era is THE trendsetter. So far, his battles against race based misperceptions have been much more challenging than his battles on the court against opponents that he routinely outplays. Over the course of his career, Lin will continue to face this just as the international players used to face it.
Lin will be able to rehash his struggles at his Hall of Fame induction ceremony!
God I'm soooo sick of this dude's fake positivity.

Deletenot if this celtic hof is his coach.
DeleteDude, lets not get ahead. If Lin continues to play in this system with a marginalized role, he won't even make the all stars.
DeleteU really need to have a disclaimer at the end of your praises so people can see your measuring stick. I mean you called Battier one of the best players today. Whether I'm right or you are right, let the posters decide. But it's really effed up.
And u seem to focus so much in how much he is making. I don't think we care so much about that.
Well, I care VERY MUCH how much Lin is making.
DeleteThe NBA is a business, and I view it primarily as a business. Lin's very interesting for me to follow from a dollars and cents standpoint.
And Battier? That guy has been a big time winner since high school. He's won championships at every level and has been an underrated impact player on every team he's ever played for. It's no surprise that Battier was involved with both of the 20+ win streaks in modern history for two different teams, has been a playoff fixture for almost all his career, and is recognized around the NBA for his intangibles. Jeremy Lin has a lot of the same positive traits that a true champion and impact NBA player like Battier has.
As far as "getting ahead" of ourselves, what's wrong with that? Trade rumors, predicting Lin's performances, talking about Lin's future - that's all "getting ahead of ourselves". Besides, Lin certainly has had a Hall of Fame impact already based on sheer statistical success compared to other players of his generation. Only front office and coaching BS would derail Lin, as not even NBA defenses can truly slow Lin down when he's healthy.
i guess we buy tickets to literally watch players get paid.
DeleteDude you have ventured way into the la la land when u broke the threshold of reality.
DeleteAnd everyone who makes the nba has won at some level. These are the best of the best. So it doesn't mean much if u start bring it up Pre-nba stuff. But for you to call Battier one of the best players in the league is just dumb. Exactly how many players are in your best player pool ? half the nba? Cause knowing you they are either the best Ir the worst.
Like I said u can say Lin has the potential to become the best pg to ever play the game. But he is waaaay far from it especially with the role he has on the team.
U need to cut way back in the superlatives. It's getting annoying especially when the reality is so far from it. When(if) Lin does better next season, then I give u my full permission.
And again. please do not compare Lin to battier. Just because they share the same useless agent, doesn't mean they play the similarl.
DeleteRemember Lin is a dunker and gunner, neither of which battier is.
Watch Morey sign this guy.

Deletenegro?
DeleteLet's remember exactly 2 years ago with the Golden State Warriors. Lin was buried on the bench, earning a measly $800K salary on an unguaranteed contract.
ReplyDeleteWarriors waived him over the summer, because they thought Lin was "too expensive" and taking up salary cap space that they can use to sign superstar center Deandre Jordan.
The coach, Mark Jackson, also believed their newly acquired Rookie point guard Charles Jenkins was a better player than Jeremy ... simply because Jenkins looked like he was better.
So Lin was waived from the Warriors without a second thought. Warriors fans rejoiced.
Fast forward 2 years later, and we see the same story replaying again. This time in Houston, and this time to clear cap space for superstar Dwight Howard.
sigh...
DeleteAnd in two years, Lin has:
Delete1) gone from $800K to $25 million
2) has a guaranteed contract that prevents him grom being easily waived
3) scored more points and handed out more assists in his first few starts than any player in post ABA history
4) played a full 82 game season despite the constant illegal bashing and ref tanking
5) averaged double figures in points for two seasons straight, dished out a ton of assists, was the best defensive guard in the entire NBA, and made the entire NBA look slow on many occasions
Of course, I could go on and on. Lin's accomplishments make a long list that's still growing.
Let's remember that two years ago, Lin fan were hoping he'd get a minimum wage guarantee and simply be able to play 10 minutes a game. So though Lin still faces gigantic struggles, look at how far he's come!
do you drive in reverse?
DeleteI drive in reverse to back out of my parking spot. There's a long road ahead, it's good to look at the big picture too.
Deleteah your shift into reverse and rely on that tiny little mirror->big picture.
Deletewhere are you getting that from? what a strange analogy.
Deletefrom here:

@ESPNSteinLine: Why is Kevin McHale off limits to Celts in their coaching search? One reason, I'm told: Rockets see McHale as a key to Dwight Howard pitch
ReplyDeleteI don't get all the love Mchale gets from the media. Lin and clutch fans alike think so little of his coaching acumen.
I can't believe there was an opportunity for Celt to pry him away but the rox are holding onto this moron. He will be exposed next year.
His HOF status makes him untouchable?
DeleteWorst nightmare, we stuck with McHale while Celts gets George Karl
As I said before, Morey is a Celtics fanboy, he grew up idolizing Kevin McHale, so it's only natural for him to hire McHale as coach and trust him way more than common sense would dictate.
DeleteGood players will wins games for you so Mchale will never look horrible. Sure at a certain point, Mchale will be exposed as a middling coach who can't win championships or take the Rockets to the next level. But the Rockets are so far from competing to titles, they can stick with Mchale, who actually got great results for a team expected to underwhelm.
DeleteNow if they do get Dho, and the Rockets struggle as an 8th seed again and are inconsistent, that's on Mchale and he might get the axe for that.
But we'll see if Dho bails or not. I think odds are Lin is a Rocket this season. It will be amazing if he moves yet again another summer.
I really don't see Dho leaving Lakertown without a S&T. And the Lakers might go crazy and just amnesty Kobe, and then DHO will 100% stay a Laker. If Kobe is gone, DHO will 100% resign with the Lakers as long as the Laker management takes ownership completely for the amnesty.
I mean the coaching market is phenomenal this season. Everyone is getting fired except for this joker.
DeleteMchale will be exposed just like he was in Minnesota. He doesn't know what da hell he is doing.
I think Mchale is good at kissing other elite players' butts. Mchale was an ass and an all star player too when he played and those are the kind of guys he likes. He himself probably listened very little to his coaches and just played ball and kept it simple and produced. Lin is the polar opposite...
DeleteLin asking where and how to pass to Kmart in the preseason just made Mchale want to puke because Mchale isn't that kind of guy and that kind of coach. He sees that as a sign of weakness in Lin. Mchale prefers cocky jackasses to be his star players, seriously.
D'Antoni apparently is more appreciative of that cerebral approach to the game whereas Mchale wants a guy who doesn't need to be coached and has the bravado of a Chris Paul to just dominate the floor, teammates, and all situations. Oddly, Mchale would probably be a great coach for CP3. Lin? Not so much...but I think Lin is figuring it out as he goes...
My fear with Lin is and always will be injury. Nothing else will derail him. Unfortunately he's been injured at the wrong times the last 2 seasons...i hope he can shake it.
My fear with Lin is his passivity when it comes to authority. I feel that he is often too self deprecating and goes over board with humility.
DeleteI wish that he has the balls to stand up for his brand if basketball.. Whether its morey or Mchale.
He has to know by now that Mchale and morey see his future differently than we do and instead of acting like a scrub who is afraid of getting cut, he needs to be more vocal about how he should be used. If they don't like it, he needs to GTFO of Houston.
Lakers put banners all over the town to beg Dwight Howard to stay. It's written Stay #stayd12
ReplyDeleteThe lakers are shipping gasol... What if jeremy and Howard will be teammate in la? :D
Howard would throw up if he was forced to rely on Lin as his main guard. I think Lin is a potentially elite guard, but nobody in the NBA thinks what I do, trust me on that.
DeleteHowever, I think Howard is pretty chill and really he just doesn't want to deal with Kobe. Billboards are not enough, the amnesty is what it will take, but the Lakers don't have the guts.
1 more yr with Kobe & a 5 yr max deal or a lesser FA deal to go to Houston and play with young guns - I think those are Howard's main options.
