Rockets might get deflated and end up losing all the remaining games and fell out of the playoff. That would certainly trigger trade rumors to trade Lin to the Lakers. Wishful thinking!!!
I don't know how getting traded to Lakers will help Lin? Lakers are an old team and Kobe is like Melo and Harden. Kobe doesn't like to share the ball. Bynum said it to D. Howard when he was traded from the Lakers. Don't do too many wishful thinking. Rockets are focus and have business to take care of. I rather they drop off to 7th seed and play OKC rather than Denver. At least Rockets was able to beat OKC once and have lost all of their games to Denver. Rockets big man do not match up well with Denver's big man. Rockets will put a thrashing to Phoenix tonight so that their starters can rest up for Memphis in Friday night's game.
No way to the Lakers! Blah...as long as Kobe is there forget about it. I just want Rockets to clinch so we need this win. 7th is okay.. but since I hate Denver I would not mind seeing if Rockets could putt it on Nuggets. I think it would be more competitive then the last game.
Lin will never be traded so long as Les is the owner of the Rockets. Please get that straight. And to even think of tanking is far beyond reality. With 3 out of 5 games at home, there is no possibility of not winning 2 to clinch the playoffs. If Utah loses to OKC, we only need 1 win.Get all that negative attitude out of your brain.
Zball168's post is why people generalize Lin fans as idiots.
Rockets need this win. I'm hoping jlin has high energy, stays aggressive and shoots like he has been. We all need the Rockets to make the playoffs, jlin needs to get that experience!Cheers
I don't want to jnix Jeremy. But I will be very dissappointed if he doesn't do well in this game and the Rockets don't win.
Yeah, I hope that 60 Minutes episode doesn't become a distraction, and instead becomes "fuel for the fire" to compete and win games.I'm glad to know that I wasn't alone in how people looked down on me and my race growing up.
I think Lin is performing is because he's the 2nd option. When chandler comes back, the maybe a dip in his average. Think about it, the last 5 games they didn't have a full team. Harden gets his shots and baby possibly take more so chandlers shot gets distributed.
This point you made is HUGE. It's because Parsons is not there that Lin gets enough touches along side Harden so he's been getting stats and touches etc.The problem with the Rockets is they have 3 scoring wings (Lin, Harden, Parsons). You only need 1 or 2 scoring wings and then you need at least 1 elite inside presence or wings that can score inside often or help people score inside often.Lin or no Lin, I think having 3 scoring wings just doesn't work. That's why Lin or Parsons' stats will suffer with all 3 there because Harden is gonna get his at all costs. And the bigs on Houston are not good enough to make up the difference.
In terms of defined roles on team:McHale: (commander in chief (probably for better or worse, in eyes of many on this forum and even over at Clutch Fans)Jeremy: McHale's on court commanding generalJames: The Hammer, The Closer (aka SEAL Team 6) :)James's presence on court opens up court for Lin and Company, because (as long as reason for poor shooting isn't stellar individual or team defense against him), he can be ice cold in first quarter and still go off for 30 - 40 points rest of game. But, he is NOT in anyway as good a pure point guard as Jeremy, and he hurts team when he tries to do everything himself and doesn't let other teammates help him win game. There will be times when everything is locked down for both Jeremy and James, and James has to go into bull in a china shop mode, force his way into defense, create contact, and hopefully get to foul line. But that should be last option, not first.Because if he does, we could possibly make some serious noise in playoffs this year.Go Jeremy, Go James, Go Rockets!
Phoenix is a bad Western Conference team that would right now be in the playoffs in the Eastern Conference as a 7th or 8th seed. As long as the Rockets play unselfishly, they can easily beat Phoenix. Goran Dragic has been benched as the Suns tries to tank. In his place is Kendall Marshall, a player whose game I hated on when the Suns drafted him. I predicted that Marshall would be incapable of playing in the NBA, though Patrick Beverley's horrendously bad defense made Kendall Marshall look like an All Star. Lin WILL get bashed by the refs in this game. It's just a matter of how much Lin gets bashed. He's gotta stay out of foul trouble because the team cannot beat Phoenix without him.
Dragic might play in this game, as they may try to win at home for the fans, and since they are assured of a lottery pick. Dragic has shown flashes of brilliance this season, as has Lin. The difference is all the offense were run through Dragic (I'm pretty sure and I've heard it, but I haven't watched most of their games) and the organization from top to bottom gave him confidence and encouragement. I like the sound of the newbie coach Hunter: He was a point guard and he has a good head. He will not have problem making in-game adjustments.
@eb5,Your prediction of Lin's stats would have also been very wrong if Harden had not joined the team. That was a pretty big confounder and I don't believe it's what you had in mind. In 4 games with Harden, including one against San Antonio and 2 against the Clippers, Lin is averaging, what, 23 and 8? Personally, I think that's a better test of your prediction about Lin's stats and how far off the mark your estimate of Lin's abilities are. If you really think Lin's stats would have been this low without Harden on the team, you're the only one.Being overly negative is not being realistic and your predictions of how good Houston would be were quite off and your implied view of how good they are now continues to be off.
Jrue Holiday's stats (with more efficient scoring) probably reflect Jeremy's would-be stats without Harden. Even with the knee recovery really hampering his first 6-8 weeks. But unfortunately, there's nothing to do except be patient. Nash didn't get to "break out" until he was 27 and Jeremy will prove he deserves the keys to the offense by his third year. I mean, even at his current (mis)usage, he'll average at least 16/6 next year with excellent shooting %s.
You can make a good argument that without Harden Rockets' record would be worse, so it works both ways. Also, you cannot cherry pick if this happened or that happened, Lin would have scored 20 points per game. If Harden didn't come, someone else might have joined and then reduced Lin's touches. I don't know why you keep on saying that I under-estimated Lin's abilities as a BB player. I said from the beginning that Lin was an above average NBA player, and at that time, he was. Also, Lin improved as a player from the beginning of this season, and I actually believe he's playing better than he did during Linsanity now. There were many games during this season, Lin looked like an All-star to super star; at the same time, there were some games, where he looked below average. This is why an entire season is required.
I do think he will average close to 17 PPG and 6.5 assists per game next season; I expect and hope that Lin will average these numbers next season, which would indicate that Lin is headed towards being an All-star level in near future. I would be disappointed if Lin never reaches this level within next 2 years.
I actually like Jrue Holiday a lot. With a better coaching, i think he can become even a better. I think Lin's passing skill is better than Jrue, and offensively, I would give it a slight edge to Jrue over Lin, or call it even at this time. However, I think Lin is not done improving. How far can and will Lin improve as a BB is what interests me the most, even more than how he plays in several games. I would also be interested in seeing how Lin plays during playoffs (if Rockets make it to playoffs), because I do consider playoff games to be the real test of certain players rising to the top.
Weren't you saying that you didn't think Lin would average more than 12 ppg, eb5attorney? I actually can sympathize with that view, as Lin needs touches to score. Also, Lin has spent most of his court time setting up others. Lin's more interested in winning than stat padding. I have steadfastly maintained since last year that Lin would be a 20 point 10 assist player NOW if his coaches plowed the ball through him.
Wow, I just looked up Jrue Holiday's numbers for 2013:http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/3995/jrue-holidayI didn't know they were that high.18 PPG and 8.5 APG, with 17 PER. They seem like an All-star numbers in that if Lin had those numbers, I would not hesitate saying Lin should be an All-star. Was Jrue Holiday an All-star this year? I don't watch All-star games, so I don't remember.
Khuang, I said Lin would average around 12, not more than 12; there is a slight difference there. Didn't you say that you thought Lin would average something like 18 PPG? Or maybe you didn't make any prediction; I just don't remember. Yes, you did say you thought Lin could score a lot more if his coaches plowed the ball through him. That must be happening for Jrue, because his numbers should be what Lin's numbers.
I've thought about putting up a site where people could post other folks' fan forum predictions so we could track their credibility over time. It'd be fun.

I live in Phoenix, but I HATE the Suns. I didn't like 'em even when they were winning 60 games a year with D'Antoni and Nash, and I don't like 'em now that they've been run into the ground by Robert Sarver and Lon "Big Contracts to Bad Players, especially ex clients" Babby. My wish was for Phoenix to go after Lin as their lead point guard this summer. I felt that Phoenix desperately needed his skills. I was sorely disappointed when they got Goran Dragic instead because I knew that Dragic wouldn't have Lin's impact. Dragic is an OK value for his contract, but Lin would've been a far better choice for less money. So the Suns not even bothering to scout Lin was a franchise killing MISTAKE. Then when the Suns drafted Kendall Marshall, I was PISSED. Like I did when Phoenix signed Dragic, I raged about it on this website because Kendall Marshall is a player so athletically underwhelming that he should never have been drafted. But to kill the franchise even further, the Suns went out and got Michael Beasley and Wes Johnson. Those two players have been incapable of doing anything at the NBA level because of their lack of quickness. Jeremy Lin would've elevated their play to acceptable levels, but Dragic couldn't and hasn't and won't. I don't really follow the Suns because I can't bear watching them commit basketball suicide. On the other hand, I might start going to games more just because upper deck tickets are so cheap and accessible. Hey, BAD basketball sells too!
Wow they have Jermaine O'Neil, Wes Johnson, and Michael Beasley, plus the Morris brothers. The Suns had to be tanking from the beginning of the season right?
With the exception of Jermaine O Neal who is limited by age and injuries, those players have all proven to be incapable of getting the job done in the NBA. The Suns overpay below average players, fairly pay average players, and refuse to pay star players.
Lin's had a fantastic 4 games in a row. So we all know what's going to happen today, McHale will bench him in the 4th quarter today. #reversejinx
Having 5 in a row good games would be the first time this season I believe.
Only if you think box score stats tell the whole story.
I think he'll sit out the 4th because the Rockets will wipe out the Suns and the bench will play the 4th. I'm just just hoping JLin embarrasses Goran Dragic to silence the "Dragic is better than Lin" crowd.
I think Lin will do well in the playoffs, even if Harden and Parsons are the #1&2 options with Lin hiding in the corner most of the time. If the NBA is rigged, they will force a NYK-Houston finals and then let those teams duke it out. If the NBA is not rigged, let's go ahead and crown Miami now and just watch how much impact Lin can have in games that really matter where teams really play hard defense. This guy has had a history of doing the unthinkable since high school.
I personally hope James Harden slips on a banana before game time and is done for the season. Or if that doesn't happen, I hope Harden during the game does a Euro step which results in a torn ACL and is done until next year's playoffs. Also I hope Chandler "pretty boy" Parsons eats moldy sushi and has diarrhea for the rest of the season and is done as well! Why do I hope such stuff? Because Lin can win without these two selfish clowns on the court and he can take the team farther without them with his team-oriented brand of basketball. I' m going to my shrine right now and praying for these things!!!
Man, that is mean. I would never wish any injury on any NBA player, especially Rockets player. I think Lin can shine even with Harden.
@spencer haywood...hmmm. that's so uncalled for . I hope you are not a real Lin fan.
Spencer Haywood - You sound like a troll. You sound overly hateful towards anyone but Lin...that's what trolls do on a Lin site. You're over the top with your comments. It's suspicious and troll-like. Your last sentence tells me all I need to know. If you are are a troll, please leave and go back to one of the HOU forums. You sound like a HOU fan, that's not a compliment.
@KietCayrox - he's not. Check his comments from past threads. He's trolling. Some Lin fans are pretty extreme but they're passionate about Lin. There is no passion behind his comments, just a lot of snark and ignorant things a typical HOU fan would say.
I'm not a troll moron.
I'm going to assume you're a troll until your comments say otherwise.
Troll or not, I think those are vicious and uncalled for comments. Man, why don't you wish all NBA players to get injured so Lin will score 100 points per game? Why don't you want D'Antoni to play Lin 48 minutes per game so he can score a lot and get injured?
I keep hoping that the Rockets are actually so desperate to get Goran Dragic back that they trade Lin for him. Jeremy Lin on my Phoenix Suns hometown team would turn the Suns around instantly. I'll bet that if such a trade was executed, the Rockets would have the Suns record and the Suns would have the Rockets record.
I would actually like to see that happen.
Everyone always compares Dragic vs Lin. At one point, Lin even said his game was similar to Dragic.I"m assuming you think Dragic is at least an above average PG?
I have not seen Dragic play all that much to be honest (I don't follow that many NBA games except for Rockets). From what I have seen, I would say Dragic is an average starting NBA PG. The only edge I would give him over Lin would be his handle.
Lin's level RIGHT NOW is anywhere between Dragic to Jrue IMO. Not saying Lin cannot exceed Jrue's numbers next year. But Jrue's PPG and APG are pretty darn good.
Dru's usage is sky high, like Lin's was in NY, maybe even a little higher. If you're a decent PG, you should be putting up Dru's # with that usage rate, on a bad team.
Jrue Holiday's team is just terrible in the Leastern Conference. The Bynum trade is not the primary reason. Losing Elton Brand was. Brand is a very solid player who was the anchor of the 76ers. Despite Holiday's good numbers, I don't see him as a game changer. Now if the Sixers played Evan Turner at PG and shipped out Jrue, THAT would make a dent in the standings.
Evan Turner at PG over Jrue (Not sure why I kept spelling his name wrong)? I don't follow the sixers close enough but Evan Turner's huge.
eb5attorney, how many games by Holiday have you watched this season?
Coach Nick at Bballbreakdown did an analysis of "great offensive players," and long story short, Jrue Holiday is someone who stat-pads against bad defenses and struggle mightily against good defenses. That's why I don't hesitate to say that Jeremy would be putting up "Jrue Holiday stats" if Harden weren't on the team. It's not even that much of a compliment -- it just means he would beast against bad and mediocre teams while being contained/shut down by the elite teams. Which is what I think would have happened this season sans Harden.
No, Lin would be contained by mediocre teams without Harden? Like he was against San Antonio and the Clippers? Lin's averaged like 22 and 8 in 4 games without Harden, 3 of them against top 4 teams.
* No no. ;)
Heh, I'm just trying to throw the doubters a bone.Even if their doubts were confirmed ("Without Harden teams would only gameplan for Jeremy!"), he would STILL be putting up the stats of an All-Star.
Did someone post this already? If not, this is interesting. Forbes names Melo 2013 most overpaid NBA player: http://www.ballerstatus.com/2013/04/08/forbes-names-carmelo-anthony-2013-overpaid-nba-player/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Ballerstatuscom+(BallerStatus.com+Alerts)
I actually see Lin and Harden can work *without* Parsons. A Shane Battier/Francisco Garcia type floor spacer who plays D and hits 3's at a high rate fits in the SF slot rather than a Carmelo or Parsons. Then at PF, they would need a REAL LEGIT Stud. So Harden and Lin are a lock, get a solid Shane Battier type at the 3, an elite 4 like a Bosh, Lamarcus, etc. and the Rockets will be darn scary....
Or if the Rockets are insane, trade Harden for an elite all-star big...The JSmoove/insert your high scoring PF, Parsons, Lin, Harden, thing won't work because there are too many young guys, Lin included, trying to get their stats...you need a few role players in the mix...
Didn't Morey mention the need for a wing defender? With all the scoring that Parsons is doing, I can't see him going back to a Garcia type role with a strong emphasis on D. He's not going to want to do it.
Parsons is out for tonight's game...
I believe the magic number is 2. So, it's possible that the Rockets clinch tonight if they win and Utah loses and OKC beats Utah. Am I right?
Yes.Reid Laymance @ReidLaymance A reminder on how #Rockets clinch tonight: HOU win over PHX AND an OKC win over UTA.
NBA tv black out my league pass.I hate it.
Sorry to hear that but i am thankful to those who voted!! SWEeeet!!
