Rockets vs Nets Game #46 2nd Half Game Thread

209 comments:

  1. Love it. Lots of turnovers because Lin is playing winning, aggressive basketball. Lin's being allowed to play pg.

On another note, folks who spend time criticizing individual turnovers really don't understand what winning basketball is about. Okc led the league in turnovers last year. Houston is dominating because Lin is being allowed to play aggressive basketball.

    1. For some odd reasons, I agree with you because usually it's a win when Lin has high number of TOs. High risk = high return i guess.

      Delete
    2. This is true, but a few of Lin's passes were still poorly thrown. At least the team finally did talk about Lin controlling the ball more, it is very obvious. And Harden is trying to let Lin set the table passing it back to Lin.

I like how Asik or some random big man still inbounds to Harden or whomever but the PG and Harden keeps passing it over to the PG...based on that, I bet Harden figured it out on his own to let Lin set the table or Mchale/Morey spoke to Harden and maybe Parsons directly about letting Lin set the table more and didn't have a team meeting about it.

    3. Look at the +/-, Lin with 6 TOs gas +10 whereas Harden with 0 TO has +/- 0

      Delete
    4. Dam Lin sat down and Nets cut it down to 9. Wow

      Delete
    5. That is not unexpected. When harden plays, somehow the rest of the team gets confused and out of sync. They need to adjust to harden and in the process each loses his focus

      Delete
    6. Absolutely correct! TO is a good sign but only during transition. Means he's attempting to make plays without hesitating!!! You gotta play with the flow!!

      Delete
    7. It's easy to second guess turnovers. Some passes will always be bad. Some shots will miss too. Do we criticize every miss? No. Making Lin second guess his passing has a negative effect on the fluidity of his play.

I've posted a spreadsheet before of Lin last year. The Knicks TOs did NOT increase with Lin at pg despite Lin having high TOs.

Today Lin has tons of TOs but how many do the Rockets have? That's the important thing. You want Lin making the teams decisions every single day.

      Delete
  2. Lin with 6 TOs... Asik bouncing back nicely from yesterday's poor offensive outing.

    1. nets with a total of 6 TOs and rox with 7 TOs

      Delete
    2. Yep, just like last year. When Lin leads teams to wins and accumulates tos, it's time to update your model of what winning basketball looks like.

      Delete
    3. I would say at least 4 TO's are on Lin. The other TOs he got cheated because of Asik.

      Delete
    4. scorekeepers seem to cheat JLin on his stats. it seems that he's short changed on his steals and assists a bit. overall a pretty clean game with low TOs overall.

      Delete
    5. One of them is from the shitty charge call. There have been 3 TOs from Lin.

      Delete
    6. I don't mind his TOs so much today since other than 2 that was just dumb passes there were like 3 thanks to Asik alone.

      Delete
  3. Jeremy a little sloppy but Rockets are up big. You can Deron is fired up. I think Deron will go hard at Lin for the rest of his career.

    1. He isn't playing hard at all since 1st quarter.

      That ankle bothering him perhaps.

      Delete
    2. He had 20 in the first quarter. Perhaps he made his point???

      Delete
    3. Deron jacking up 3's and getting hot only works for so long. Lin's style wins more games...

      Delete
  4. TD drains a 3 in Lopez's face.

Nice. I wish Lin can do that.

Harden back to iso ball tho. I really hope he doesn't do this in 4Q, Brooklin has plenty of talent to close a mere 11pt lead, it was down to 9 just now.

    1. Hey, you got your wish! Twice now!

And we know Lin can do this. Remember his 3s over Marion and over Novitski in that Dallas game during Linsanity?

      Delete
  5. I will take a win with Lin controlling the ball but having TOs anytime. Obviously, one hopes that will improve and I'm a firm believer it will.

    1. i agree, it means that JLin has the ball and pushing to make things happen.

      nice drive from dwill.

      Delete
    2. He just needs to slow it down for Asik.

Asik is like mentally challenged when it comes to catching fast passes, you have to slow it down for him and give him plenty of room, none of this pin point between the legs bounce pass or no looks cause he isn't watching the ball half the time.

      Delete
  6. Well at least one of the ref went to apologize to Lin on that charge call

  8. DWill is just good.

But you can tell he slowed down a lot since that near sprain.

    ReplyDelete
  9. LOL I like how Morris looked off Harden at the end of the third and passed to Delfino. Then Delfino passes back to Morris for the jumper. Otherwise Harden would have 100% shot the last shot LOL.

That's a freezeout on Harden if I ever saw one. TOo bad morris shot an airball....

    ReplyDelete
  10. What is harden telling the 2 rockets?Asik got interested but kinda joined in late.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Lin just owns open court.

    Nuff said.

I think Lin needs to train with LeBron over the summer.

He needs to learn to flop more :D

  20. JLin gets the ball, notices how far out he was and takes a step in... and nails the 3!

nice wraparound dish to asik for the slam.

    ReplyDelete
  21. LOL HArden looked so annoyed Lin made the 2nd 3 pointer....he must be thinking "crap I might get back in till late now..."

    1. really? that's pretty weak if that's true. there's no i in team.

    2. Harden didn't look happy...more like "great i don't look like I'm needed & when am I gonna get back in if Lin keep hitting his shots?"

      Delete
  22. And they still think of benching Mr. 4th Q JLin? Take notes Mr. Coach.

  23. General Lin reporting in for duty

    ReplyDelete
  24. Why the fuck are they scoring those passes wrap around passes in the paint by Lin as missed layups?

That last dunk by Asik looked he got fed by a pass by Lin and dunked it.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Lin lost the ball...it should have been nothing statistically since there was no TO...

  25. Asik improved leagues in this game.

Its the 5hr energy he drank b4 the game.

    ReplyDelete
  26. That 3 off the dribble was nice!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Their D is deteriorating tho.

Lin is keeping their double digit lead.

Rox need to protect perimeter better.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ok just when I compliment him he shoots 0/2 ft :/

    ReplyDelete
  29. No it wasnt. Ball was deflected from lin and luckily landed on asik's hands and made the dunk

    ReplyDelete
  30. Just like that nice and easy.

    Go Lin/Asik!

Now they need a defensive stop to stretch.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Nice Delfino too bad Parsons couldn't make the 3.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Lin can have 15pts and 8TO's AND help get a win. Harden can have 30pts and 6TO's and have not impact on the game. That's the difference.

Even better...Lin is paid $25 mil compared to $80.

    ReplyDelete
  33. smart pass to asik with that mismatch. nice to see asik dunking rather than trying a reverse layup.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Wow what a sick pass that was. I screamed "Hell Yeah Asik, catch the dam ball please" and he did with a Jam followed. Very nice indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I was surprised that asik could get the low pass from Lin lol

    ReplyDelete
  36. AMAZING PASS BY JEREMY to STONE-HANDS ASIK.

Bounce pass too! That's why Jeremy is smarter than any idiot announcer.

He knows Asik can't catch passes -- might as well go low so defenses won't get it either.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. haha, but as according to Clyde, Jeremy shouldn't be making those low passes to Asik, because big guys can't be catchin' those.

  37. I always get scared everytime i see harden on the floor. There is always this threat that the lead will just melt away.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. it's better to let Lin control the ball because he is less selfish with the ball. Harden isn't looking to pass as a first option ever...

however, it's lin's stupid TO's that hurt his own cause or when he drives and gets stripped or blocked..

  38. Great transition D by Lin, took that charge like a man :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. wow... see harden hit turbocharge?! and 1!

      Delete
    3. i think balance is the key. harden wasn't isoing a lot and lin got his touches. 2 headed monster.

      Delete
  51. jlin initiating and being more aggressive. even though not putting a lot of stats, it's putting extra pressure on the defense to be honest.

even commentators saying he needs to be like this every game

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. yes it makes the defense forget where HArden, Parsons, or Delfino are on the court. ANd allows Asik to get some weakside rebounds. The D is off kilter with Lin running in circles.

      Delete
  52. I don't know about you guys, but Asik got the game ball for this game. The man was on a mission tonight. 20 points and 16 rebounds.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Asik did play great too I agree

      Delete
  53. Man this is how Harden should be used as well.. My goodness he looked great now finishing plays and the D can't key on him since they have to chase around Lin who's playing in turbo mode all around the court.

My goodness, why do I feel like in 2 more games, Mchale will revert back to Hardenball though?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Nice show harden.rockets fans are livibg u to death.

    ReplyDelete
  55. less iso harden, more defense, and harden still gets his stats.

this is the way to play.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Lol Lin is fired up he aws trying to defend everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Harden on the left, jeremy in his right, delfino decided he'll give thr ball to harden.that shows who delfino thinks as the PG

D-Will getting every damn call inside...and he still complains.

      I bet that's why D-Will got ejected.

Ref: "Lin ain't getting sh*t and he ain't whining like you."

    1. so true, Lin rarely gets calls, why is that????

      Delete
    2. Because he doesn't look "athletic" (i.e. black) enough.

Unless the contact is 100% obvious, most refs will chalk it up to Jeremy "missing" an easy layup. Meanwhile, Harden will flop and get a call ("No way Harden missed that! Must've been fouled").

      Delete
    3. lin is complaining more to the refs so they will pay attention.

    2. I was really hoping for that 1 assist as well. Dang.

      Delete
    3. Yeah, it's too bad he doesn't get the calls. His shooting percentage dips from all those non-calls.

      Delete
    4. :O!! What do you mean, the refs are inept at making fair calls!? Oh my...

      Delete
  66. Delfino is on because he is not handling the ball and trying to make plays. Lin and his teammates are passing to him in his favorite spots for him to shoot the threes. When he handles the ball he tends to be too cute and end up spending more energy and thus not able to get push on his legs to shoot the shot great.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Like on that 3-on-1 fastbreak he had Lin streaking on his rightside for the easy layup but he ignored him and wasted that possession.

      Delete
  67. Lin should have had a double double had Asik finished those shots in the first quarter. Although Asik had a good game.

    1. Lin would have 12+ assists 17+ points if:

      1. asik didn't mess up like 3 passes
      2. he got the call on the two non-calls
      3. morris would have finished a couple of dishes

They did much better on rotation, Harden and Lin are getting time apart and closing together...Best of all looks like everyone is on board with the new game plan.

Lin is playing PG and elevating the team.

Basically, just follow what we've been bitching about for the past 2 months. I am convinced Rox FO has people trolling this site :)

      Delete
    2. I'm telling you, Rox FO very possibly could be trolling this site himself and maybe even POSTING from time to time!!!

      Delete
    3. Absolutely. This is why I have only minimal respect for Rondo.

Jeremy -- even without handling the ball 70% of the time -- would average 10 assists on that team. On the Rockets, however, Jeremy had to deal with 7-footers who can't dunk or make layups consistently.

Asik owes Jeremy half his paycheck. He'd be averaging 5ppg with a "star" PG like Deron or Rondo. The fact that Jeremy gets him shots that are point-blank layups 90% of the time is the only reason his offense looks respectable.

      Delete
    4. Asik should thank him because eventhough Asik messed up on Lin's passes earlier, Lin never gave up on Asik and still feeding the big whale. Lin's thinking is that if you keep feeding him sooner or later it will be automatic like muscle memory.

      Delete
    5. Nothing like learning while in the line of fire.

Now, if only McHell would give some minutes to some bench players to have some minutes on the court with professor Lin.

What McHale probably said: "You shot 5-14 with 6TOs. That's why you're not playing PG. Harden won us this game...you're just lucky to be here."

  74. Harden played well. I don't mind Harden taking it to the rim when he gets the ball, as long as he doesn't try to go ISO. Also, ISO is not a bad idea when Rockets is winning by a decent margin near the end and need to use up the clock. Lin for the first time took 15 shots. Even the commentators said if Lin could hit long jumpers, he would be unguardable. Lin did well enough. He hit two 3s in a row.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, if he can hit 3s from spot-shooting consistently, he'd be retarded.

      Delete
    2. Harden actually gave the ball up a couple times toward the end!

But he had a +/- of ZERO despite 29 points. LOL. What a "star"!

Jeremy missed two shots at the end though -- hacked hard but no call -- so I'm worried James won't do it again ("Dude, you missed the shots when I gave you the ball! See?").

      Delete
    3. Well, let's also give credit to Harden as a super-efficient scoring machine. His +/- clearly showed deficiency in defense and he can learn a lot from Lin but Lin can also learn much about effortless shooting and strong moves to draw fouls.

Both are not perfect but together I can see they're slowly becoming the best backcourt duo in the NBA.

      Delete
    4. Harden did play well and got his points within a half-court offensive structure instead of just iso-ball. But really, I thought the bigs were the difference in the game with Lin, Parsons, and even Harden feeding them the ball in spots where they could get high percentage shots..

  75. Lin 14 points -> +14

  77. I guess Im getting good at predicting these games. Decent game from and Asik and patterson played well in the post = a good win. Lin 4th quarter was great to watch. That pass from Lin to Harden to Delfino fun basketball!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Lin has a nice line with +14 scoring 14pts/9asts/1blk/1stl/1reb.

His passes were shaky before 4Q but his defense picked up in 4Q and made Nets uncomfortable. His help defense prevented DWill getting a clean reverse layup at one point.

I'm impressed with his confidence in making back-to-back 3PTs that stretched the lead back to 13.

    1. solid effort by lin again tonight. he probably could have been physical with dwill in the first 1/2 to slow his momentum.

      Delete
    2. By the way, 5-14 shooting isn't bad at all considering:

-Jeremy made TWO threes and 2-2 FTs. So his TS% is still 50%.
-Jeremy was hacked HARD three times with no call. I'm not even counting two or three other hacks that were 50/50 calls.

He was the clear MVP of the game -- his help defense was Linsane. No guard in the NBA plays better help defense than Jeremy.

      Delete
    3. @pacapunch

Jeremy was benched early on. D-Will got 11pts in four minutes on Toney Douglas.

Also, D-Will is a jump shooter who gets superstar calls. When he's "hot," there's nothing you can do.

    4. Yeah zxcvb, I think Jeremy forgot to put up his arm and look up the sky so he can get the Harden foul call from the refs.

    5. Not according to Clyde the Glide. Apparently in the games Clyde's been watching, Douglas is a much faster, stronger guard, and can fill the gap where JLin wasn't covering his PGs at all.

  79. 76ers spanked the knickerbockers 97-80.

melo 25 pts on 9-28 shooting. amare 8-13 with 20 pts.

jrue with 35 pts on 16-25 shooting.

  80. You can't stop passing to Asik just because he can't catch.

Houston needs that interior presence in order to spread the defense.

    1. i think greg smith inspired asik to play better after a troubling 1st quarter.

    2. If you can only combine those two into one player...

    3. give smith's hands to asik. that's all he needs :)

    4. Or, if you have Lin's brain and Harden's body...

    5. Or McHale's body plus Greg Smith's ankle...

    6. I would just have a healthy Lin playing with confidence.

  81. Jeremy Lin is going to have turnovers from teammates not coming to the ball.

This young Rockets team is still learning how to play. Plus they've had some tanking issues of their own that are being solved, hopefully.

When Lin sets up to pass, his teammates need to cut toward him HARD. Enough of this loosey goosey strolling that makes it difficult for Lin to tell if the player is actually really ready to receive passes.

    1. Chandler usually does a good job of helping Lin when he's picked up his dribble and has nobody to pass to. He had a couple good cuts to the basket tonight.

  82. Wow, who would have guessed both Asik AND Parsons would get a double double. tonight.

    1. I know, especially the way they've been playing last couple games. Good for them, they need this!

5 Rox players in double digit points (Harden, Asik 20+), TD getting his minutes back. Parsons with career high 11 assists, Morris with career high 10 rebounds.

    1. I don't post very often so I don't know if this will help but because there is no way to edit posts, I will often delete my post and repost it with the corrections, or put it in the right place if I happened to reply to the wrong person. Yes I can see that my posts have been deleted by myself. I have never had posts deleted by administrator.

    2. They see it as "This comment has been removed by the author."

    4. Sometimes what happens is that you want to click into "reply", but what you actually did was "Add Comment". I've done that before; I would post something new that's completely nonsensical because it was a response to another post.
