Rockets vs Hornets Game #32 1st Half Game Thread

  1. One note: Asik keeps letting Lopez get rebounds over him. I saw this on several possessions. Smart move by Lin to feed Asik down low. Also great help defense so far and great ball movement by Harden. Don't know why Marcus Morris is out of bounds on the play that Parsons passed to him. Mental bball IQ is not too high. Stay on the court young man! Jeremy Lin has no assists so far thanks to Marcus and Asik.

  2. Lin is not really involved in the offense in the first 6 min. Let's hope things change soon.

  3. Ohh !man ! Should just shoot it!

  4. Did anybody noticed Mchale giving Lin some words of encouragement, a wink and a slap in the butt during pre-game?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Can Jeremy please get some touches??!!!

    1. i know it seems the coaches are not trusting the ball is in his hands again tp create, i dont like it ...hate these coaches mindset esp. Mchale

every player seems to be given more freedom to be the pg, when there still isnt defined roles on the team other then harden given a pass to do what ever he wants and make as many mistakes as he wants including not playing defense

  6. Just got home in time to catch the game at the 5:50 mark

  7. Harden is trying to get his stats now!

    ReplyDelete
  8. It's the Harden and Asik show. Harden got one assist to Asik so far and as usual doing his thing by driving to the hoop and throwing his head back to give the ref the impression of a foul. Perhaps Lin should learn this move. Lin first steal and assist to Harden.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Asik getting out rebounded by Lopez earlier. Asik would just stand there and look at the ball instead of jumping and trying to grab the rebound.

    1. I've been saying all along that Asik doesn't fight for rebounds. OK, need to drive home and watch the game now.

  10. As usual it never fails that TD is inserted at the 3 - 4 minute mark left in the 1st quarter. I believe this is McHale strategy to give Lin some rest and let TD play with Harden and give Harden free range to score. He will then sub out Harden for Lin and let Lin and TD play in tandem. Later he will have all three on the court.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Why did they sub for Lin?? He didn't even do anything yet!!! Ugh I get real tired of watching these Rockets games sometimes. Jeremy is the 'sometimes' point guard.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That is pretty consistent with how they used to sub throughout the last games. See above post by 8cdee620-xxxx

  12. this bullshit is getting stupid. JLin not given the ball every time to dribble up court and is reverting to the corner again alot

    1. he needs to shoot more and direct the players for mre pick n roll play...too unselfish

      Delete
    2. i guess they can afford this for now because its the hornets. You know experiment on Jlin jumpshot. of course his stat will suffer if it doesn't work but at least they are trying to work on it.

  13. Lin plays an excellent defense, best i've seen.

  14. worthless announcers. clyde just said td was the BEST at closing. Uhm, k. Do they ever ride Lin's nuts like that? All you hear from clyde is, that's it, Lin be more aggressive!

    1. he loves TD too much. lol He probably didn't know how terrible he was in New York.

  15. I can't understand how silly are the coaching staffs of the rockets its easy for them to sit down lin with just 1 miss than other of players like morris who miss a lot of shots this quarter.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. i don't have a problem with them sitting lin out at the end of the 1st qtr, especially if he's not hott.

      Delete
    2. He's not anything cuz he didn't even take one shot! I think Jeremy has to be just a little bit selfish sometimes.

      Delete
  16. In the 2 for 1 situation it never fails that Harden will always shoot a 3 point shot without anybody being set. He hardly makes that shot btw. I tend to notice Harden has only one move and that is straight to the basket with the euro steps. Unfortunately for him, his teammates at OKC know how to defend this and that is why he did not score much on them. Also, the Spurs got the better of the Rockets because of outside 3 pts shooting which was the result of Harden not playing D on his man or the other Rockets not rotating when Harden was screened. Harden would never fight hard over the screen like how Lin would fight over the screens.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Did Lin do a good job defending Vasquez?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, he is doing a good job so far on Vasquez.

      Delete
    2. So far Vasquez has no points, 1 turn over, 2 fouls and 3 assists.

      Delete
  18. I really miss Jeremy playing for the Knicks. At least he was the point guard handling the ball most of the time there. And the crowd was way better. Jeremy can't excel if he doesn't take a shot in the first quarter!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. LIn is in with TD, Patrick Patterson, Greg Smith and Delfino. So I was right about McHale's substition pattern. Harden is resting for the start of the 2nd quarter.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Replies
    1. he's probably trying to determine which player is hot. The defense is seriously guarding him. If a player other than harden explodes thats when Jlin will attack cause the defense will have to adjust to the new hot hand.

      Delete
    2. See Lin-> PatPat-> Harden? Lin anchors the team even if hes not shooting.

      Delete
  21. And now they can play as a team..

    ReplyDelete
  22. Lin is not getting the assists because he is passing to his teammates at the 3 point line who missed all of their 3 pointers. Nobody is cutting to the rim when Lin is driving and most are standing on the perimeter waiting for the pass. Assists will be much higher with closer range shot and consistent shooters.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. that is true, I just want JLin to actively look for his shot more and drive to the basket more his FT attempts have dropped dramatically

      Delete
    2. If Delfino misses his shots again we have to send him some poisoned sausages!

      Delete
  23. No O for JLin first half. Hey, D win championship so keep playing hard Mr. Lin.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. i love his D and its cool that most of his steals are automatic points for the Rockets. And whats great about his steal is its not like those fast hands trying to get lucky. His position and timing is perfect. Good BB IQ indeed.

  24. I believed I read somewhere that the coaches want to make sure Harden feels comfortable with the offense over Lin because they paid him so much. McHale sees Harden as the scoring machine and threat and the only viable and sustainable option for Houston to win. But as I pointed out earlier, McHale is making the adjustment to have Lin work with TD more in the 2nd quarter and then ultimately bringing all three of them in at the same time. I have noticed this pattern in the past couple of games.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I like Greg Smith but... tying your shoes while standing in the key??? SMH

    ReplyDelete
  26. Omg that f'king Delfino got a problen with JLin or what? Didn't even pass to Lin when he's wide open at the corner and didn't even give it to Lin on an outlet pass. Lin was all by himself. Wtf is going on Delf'n fino?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Prob cos JLin has been shooting relatively poorly. If you look at the D the opposition gives him, it's usually blocking the driving lanes and daring him to shoot.

And I think his team kind of thinks the same way too :-(

  27. I believe the Rox are afraid if Lin plays PG when TD is in as a SG, that Lin may play either like Linsanity or more likely they are afraid Lin will play like a total scrub and be exposed.

Either one would be no good for what the Rox want to do.

One creates controversy as to who is the face of the Rox and the second exposes Lin.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I believe McHale strategy is to be harsh and critical on Lin so he will know how to improve on his game and not compliment or say alot about his game so as to deflect the spotlight from Lin. I believe McHale got told by Les to utilize Lin more.

  28. Harden is back in with Lin, Asik, Delfino and Paterson. Rockets up by 5 points. 38 to 33.

  29. Is it just me or does asik get faked too easily?

    1. That shot looked pretty. ..hes gettin there man gunna be raining treys from lin...note he made sure he didnt step on line lol

  31. Smart play by Lin to feed Harden and let him attack Vasquez who already has 2 fouls. Harden was able to attack Vasquez and drew his 3rd foul. Asik is still getting out rebounded by Lopez and finally get an AND 1.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Minutes tell you the story of who the Rockets view as their main men. Oddly now Lin and Harden are top 2 in minutes last 2 games. Parsons no longer. Lasting trend or 2 game anomaly?

You can't hide a guy all game in the corner and keep him on the court for 36-40 minutes so as long as Lin gets minutes, it matters more than if he is the token guy bringing the ball up the court.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Is Asik only a good rebounder if the other center is shorter than him?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Who is james Anderson?? not really familiar with him.

  35. Lin with the first questionable move I seen in a while where Harden was open and Lin jacks a contested 3....I think Lin got so desperate waiting for the ball to find him in Q1, he feels he has to score the ball and keep up his stats as well....

    1. That wasn't a good play at all, but JHarden did it so many times so f it.

    2. Yes, Lin's teammates like JH, Delfino, do it all the time and we get on their cases on here... that's why I hate seeing it from Lin...

  36. You guys see Harden clapping at Jlin for the final shot of the 2nd quarter?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. He also likes pushing Lin around on defense...all the top scorers/highest paid guys of each team act like that whether or not they are really elite or not...as long as Lin is on the Court, I'm fine with it.

      Delete
    2. I missed that. Why did he clap? JLin hit something?

      Delete
    3. It never fails anyway. Coach instructs all players to give final shot to Harden.

      Delete
    4. Oh - he wanted the ball. Got it.

      Delete
    5. Willy, without about 15 seconds left on the clock, Jeremy looks like he was about to set a play up before Harden started clapping his hands at Jeremy trying to get Jeremy to pass him the ball.

  37. Dont like that Lin is not 1st man on offense but anyway -> still best Rocketman out there and doing what he does very well. He should have more assists but hey - its always the same story with his teammates :)

Also - only Rocketman who seems to be able to shoot a 3 :) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Give Delfino more sausage plz!

    3. It's hard to watch a Rox's game without cussing. It's not possible at all, and i'm the mellowish guy around. Seriously, I couldn't hold in my emotion when watching the Rox game. Maybe it's the beers, lol.

      Delete
    4. Try dude :) Sometimes I feel like cursing as well but I try not to. It ruins everyone elses mood :) JLin is the best Rox players tonight (again). Playing smart - not hard. So far - so good!

      Delete
    5. I suppose if you're with your guys or something...I mean wouldn't it be part of watching sports though? Gotta let your hair down once in a while...*shrug*

      Delete
    6. I guess it depends on who you hang out with, in what envirement you are and how you curse. A "damn - JLin missed that one" wont upset anyone - not even me. "JLin plays like an idiot" (someone wrote that the other day) on the other hand really kills peoples mood.

I like to think of this site as a public place - like a sports bar. If you curse your own players in a sports bar really bad - chances are that people will throw bottles at you :) In GB (during a soccer game) people would start a fight.

I gues it really depends on your culture. I always wonder how in the USA - fans from opponent fans can sit together without beating each other up.

  39. i LOVE jlIN's d, the best on the team by far...but I'm noticing his lack of aggressiveness on offence... not liking that at all

  40. Lin held Vasquez to 0 points, 1 turn over, 3 assists and 3 fouls. On the flip side, Asik has let Lopez get 4 offensive rebounds.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Right! JLin played well. Asik and Morris were a little sloppy. Thank god Lin made a three -> 1/11 (team). Otherwise Rox would have 0% 3pt shooting ROFL!

      Delete
  41. This young team could be great, but they all tend to play selfishly every 4 games or so. Everyone wants their stats. Everyone wants the ball. Lin tries to be a facilitator but he wants the ball in his hands as does Harden. Lin often gets frozen out unintentionally while trying to get everyone their shots, and he starts pressing like today when the ball fails to get back to him even or he'll start chasing the ball around while teammates swing it away from him. The Rox bench of TD and Delfino were trying to gun and get stats. It's a team domino effect, and that's why the game is so close.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think that is not the case. It's true Lin is standing at the corner for the pass, but I believe it has to fall on Lin to be aggressive too and not just stand at the corner expecting to be a spot shooter. Lin needs to move around and at least make himself available for the pass. Also, Lin is playing much smarter. He is at +9 versus Harden +1. Harden is getting 5 assists because he passed to Asik while he cutting to the basket when defenders were collapsing on him and also to close range shooters. Lin needs to understand this to get his assist number up.

      Delete
    2. Coach's fault, I guess. He should yank out anyone not playing team ball right away (for the apparent reason), just as swiftly as he sits JLin (a lot of time, for no reason).

      Delete
    3. Like I said before. McHale would rather sacrifice making Lin comfortable over Harden. After all, Harden is the $80 million dollar prize versus Lin and Harden can score. He is trying to preach to the team that they need to play up tempo and score more.

      Delete
  42. what's with his careless passes?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Meh. He's been great tonight with his passes. One or two bad ones.

Ten or twelve great ones...his forwards struggle to dunk a basketball.

      Delete
    2. It's gonna happen. It's high risk high reward. You can't make all those ridiculously good passes without a few bad ones.

      Delete
    3. he's on point most of the time but it's the soft lobs when there's 2 or 3 guys in the area that looks avoidable.

      Delete
  43. How many assists can Jeremy's teammates blow?

My God, I've never seen such a poor finishing NBA team. Jeremy should have at least 6 assists.

That's 4 point-blank layups his bigs have missed already!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. LOL - I feel the same way - every game :)

      Delete
    2. Marcus Morris and Asik cannot play above the rim. That is why you get blown layups and no assists for Lin. On that careless pass from Lin, he was trying to hurry up and get a score since he didn't have Asik in the picture. Asik was busy tieing his clown shoe.

      Delete
  44. Lin didn't get an assist for that asik basket?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. For stats purposes. I'd like Lin to get 7ast tonight but doesn't look like it's going to happen with Harden's stellar control this evening.

      Delete
  45. LOL Harden complaining he didn't get the ball on Asik's 3 point play. Lin explaining there was a pending double team. Harden not happy even when the play results in a score where he feels Lin looked him off...this team has bubbling chemistry issues since there is no defined pecking order and these guys are all still proving themselves...

    ReplyDelete
  46. Damn!, it would have been nice if JH had made that 3pter!

    ReplyDelete
  47. finally, we needed that, else we had been running dry in a while with so many misses and bad passes.

    ReplyDelete
  48. not good at all! so many desperate shots, and its failing as well.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Jeremy need to come in aggressive this quarter.n He had done good job on distributing and passing, unfortunately most of it was not converted.

He should take alittle more shots and drive to the basket. Oh man, its okay to be a little selfish!

    ReplyDelete
  50. oh man, hornets are making good 3pters and we are missing them. :(

    ReplyDelete
  51. But got to give it Hornet, their Defense is just superb and we are not rotating the ball enough to break the D

    ReplyDelete
  52. What a boring game... I hate it when harden hogs the ball, it takes away a lot of momentum from the team. What I hate about J.Lin's game is that he tends to be passive at times..
