This will be Jeremy's 50th start of his career. After this game we'll compare the stats of his first 50 against the stats of the first 50 games of future Hall of Famer's Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, CP3. I'm sure most of you will be very shocked to see the comparisons.

Will be looking forward strong performance from Lin. I hope the Rockets put the ball in the hands of Jeremy more again
ReplyDeleteI'd like to remain optimistic. I hope the Rox will learn from what happened at MSG and change their minds...
DeleteIan O'Connor @Ian_OConnor
Per ESPN Stats & Info, Houston was using Lin on nearly 19% of plays vs 27% as a starter w/ #Knicks, biggest drop in NBA.
8:47 AM - 18 Dec 12
I am more optimistic about the future as well. I think nobody has learned more about Jeremy's positive influence in ROX's offense than the man himself. We have been complaining about his unnecessary passes for a long time, and last time at the MSG, we didn't feel that for one possession. Jeremy still couldn't buy a jump shot, but he was definitely (and finally true to his word) being aggressive.
DeleteSo instead of praying and wishing and hoping that the coaches will give the ball to Jeremy more, I'd like to see him attacking the basket more.
As for the coaches... well, stop the iso-heavy and ever-so predictable "flow" offense... So often I felt like watching street basketball!

ReplyDeleteLin plays a gung ho, adrenalin rush, high octane type of game with fearless drives and alley oop passes which is great for fans who pay good money for their tickets. However, as typically seen by the reckless foul by his former good friend Tyson, it is a style fraught with danger and hard knocks.
ReplyDeleteIt's a style which the coaches probably think is unsustainable and better for the team if Lin could adopt a European side step that Harden plays. Lin is smaller and has to improve his perimeter shooting rather than running so hard against the nasty 7 footers.
Actually, he already has a great Euro-step.
DeleteJust check the first half of last year's T-Wolves game. He uses it twice in the highlight alone. Play-by-play guy says he did it another time as well.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIW4WyVLa9g
Believe it or not, I have a feeling that the Eurostep might actually be BAD for Jeremy's knees. Rapidly changing directions like that puts stress on your ligaments, even though it's "slower" and less contact-inducing.
Good clip but I meant Lin should play safer like Harden. This clip shows the huge difference since Lin came to the Rockets - Lin has fewer variety of attacks, no-one does effective picks for him, but in this clip he fell down 4 times (once pushed off defending). Funny, Rubio fell, but like an old man tripping over his dribble.
DeleteI see what you mean. The only sure-fire way to play "safer" is to develop a reliable jumper (mid-range like Tony Parker or 3pt like Kidd...or both like Nash).
DeleteI think Jeremy can do that, but right now, while he needs to "prove himself" to McHale, he should stick with his A-game for the most part.
Isiah Thomas used to get bashed around like Lin.
DeleteAs the quickest point guard of the 80s and 90s, Isiah Thomas could beat any defender off the dribble, just like Lin can today. Thomas also was constantly challenged physically, as everybody lnew that stopping Thomas stopped the Pistons.
All his career, Thomas took hard hits on and off the ball. People targeted him almost as much as they did Lin becausr Thomas was a babyfaced sweet natured player whose actual substance far outweighed his grand sense of style.
Lin has a lot of Isiah Thomas type traits, even though it's rumored that Isiah was instrumental in convincing Dolan to drop Lin. I don't believe or disbelieve that.
I was actually concerned with how Jeremy fell on that flagrant foul courtesy of his "friend" Tyson. landed on one leg. well good thing he can take a hit. got really horrified, reminded me of how D. Rose landed when he got his ACL torn last playoffs. landed badly while he was taking a shot.
DeleteAfter listening to Jason Friedman's remarks on JLin fans, the justifications for not letting JLin play in 4thQ, I'm completely convinced that JLin gonna be playing off the ball and camp at a corner and be taken out in the 4th Q again, in this game. (:
ReplyDeleteI haven't got the chance to listen the podcast but did Jason seriously said that?
DeleteJason Friedman said JLin fans over-react, blaming everybody else - Harden, coaches but not JLin - his shooting "sucks". JLin fans are not taking interests in the performance of the Rox as a whole, all they want is to watch JLin play bball. (:
DeleteWell Jason can go fudge himself. Lin can shoot but he need to needs to be feeling it first (e.g. vs Spurs 4/5 3pt or 6/7 from long range)
DeleteOften time Lin were forced to shoot contested 3 pt or rushed by shot clock. Just keep letting him shoot and the law of average surely will catch up.
@liv
DeleteIt's not just Lin fans but the entire bball world outside of Houston trying to tell the Rox how they are [mis]utilizing JLin.
I keep telling you guys that Friedman's opinions means dick. He's a young, wet behind the ears writer, not an experienced basketball guy. His opinion has no more weight than yours or mine.
DeleteLol at getting pissy over the fans. They're sports fans! You're a professional.
DeleteI hope he's not justifying under the behest of the Rox. After MSG, I don't see how they can revert to that old crap.
@via, I completely agree. Why is it that EVERYONE sees the misuse of Lin except for the HOU Rockets and its' retarded fan base?
DeleteLin is trying to tell us that his role has changed (see his knicks/hou post game conference) and we shouldn't expect anything close to Linsanity. So yes, he will continue to play off the ball, he will continue to be used as a complimentary role player to Harden because the Rockets staff don't know how to take advantage of Lin/Harden's strengths. Instead, all we hear is, be aggressive, be aggressive! That's so lame. In the role they've outlined for him, being aggressive would mean he'd take more 3 pt attempts and continue to drive 1 vs 4 to the hoop. That's what aggressive means in Lin's role because they don't know what else to do with him.
1 vs 5.
Delete@ k.smith
DeleteI'm hoping against hope something will change with the thinking of the coaching staff this time...
---
As for Jason, I know he's on the defensive, having to constantly defend the Rox to questioning fans [NOT always from Asia, but I guess it's easier to see JLin fans as a monolith -> Them.] It seems simply being a JLin fan invalidates their observations about the wonky Rox "system", observations bball minds are now echoing.
*invalidates THEIR observations -> meaning JLin fans who actually do get into regular kerfluffles with Rox writers, something I don't feel the right to judge. At least they're doing something...
DeleteWhen I listened to this yesterday, I thought he tried to qualified it by saying some Lin fans. I think that is very true though. There are vocal ones on crutchfan that says that specifically that they don't care if Houston wins or not but if Lin plays great.
DeleteI'm sure Jason probably get bunch of tweets voicing their anger that Lin is not playing enough or getting enough touches.
I don't think we need to jump on Jason too harshly with that comment which probably has some truth to it. And listening his podcast, sounds like he had to deal with those Lin only fans quite often.
One or two people who screams the loudest sometimes will get lumped into generality.
He singled out fans from Asia, whose money is good enough for the Rox [but whose opinions are not.] Also, the group being denounced for the All-Start game results. Put down as being ignorant of bball, fanatical, blah blah.
DeleteThey're not the only group vociferously questioning how the Rox are playing JLin, you've prolly read all the articles by now.
Jason frames it as the fans favoring JLin's good vs the Rox, when it doesn't have to be, it can be a win-win, like at MSG.
I don't even know why they keep tweeting this guy, tbh. Like ach said, it's pointless. [He do sometimes parrot Morey, and let on stuff.] I guess fans get frustrated with Morey's lack of response, they'd rather squabble with Jason than get nothing.
*All-Star
DeleteJason was upbeat on Lin pretty much all the way. I listen to his show regularly. But... to be honest, there have been quite a number of comments recently by - who I call the vocal minority of Lin fans - who enjoy seeing the Rox lose. Even on this blog. I can tell you that when you are at the end of a storm of emails and stuff about things you have no control over you start building resentment towards a group of people. I have written about my dislike of this unpleasant minority, so I won't add more.
DeleteBut as I like to say, it is one thing to wish that HOU would use Lin better, and to point out the problematic way they are using Lin (the bballbreakdown that achondroplasiaphobia posts below is an example of an intelligent way of putting forth one's viewpoint) and it is quite another to wish that HOU loses, to insult Lin's teammates, to cast aspersions on the coaching, to deluge the writers for saying what they honestly believe. These people are not the majority, however; I think that the writers need to separate the majority of Lin fans, from the mean, nasty, immature ones.
The fact is, Lin is a global phenomenon. His fans number in the MILLIONS. We are a drop in the bucket, and the people who don't care the least about HOU and even want HOU to lose are a drop in that drop of a bucket. They don't represent us. They don't represent Lin.
To clarify, when I say "cast aspersions" on the coaching, I don't mean the quality of it, because bad coaching should be criticised. Rather, it is personal and professional insults regarding their moral characters, even though there is scarcely any evidence of malice, other than a few soundbites, which wouldn't hold up in any serious discussion.
DeleteI don't see anything wrong with people tweeting JF for whatever reason. It is how twitter world works. For any given subject, there are always more negative than positive. If you want to live in that world, be prepared, no need to complain how others act. have you ever searched 'Jeremy Lin' in twitter, you know what I'm talking about. JF sometime is too serious, he needs to lighten up a bit, not keep arguing with rox fans (or Lin fans he called), like he has to have the final words or justices. NBA is in entertainment industry after all. IMO, rox fan have no channel to voice their opinions, no official forum, can't make comments on their news/articles, that's why fans take on twitter.
DeleteOh, I am okay with writing to the writers - after all, they do invite you to tweet them. Let me rephrase what I said. Instead of deluge, harass. It is fine to debate, but it is unnecessary to insult.
Delete(Unless that writer is Stephen A Smith because I hate the guy lol.)
Maybe he should put himself in the fans shoes and he will understand fans feeling. Why fans furious? Is it really they didn't got to see Lin play the whole minutes from beginning to the end? I don't think fans will have any problem if Lin didn't get to play the whole 4 th Quarter in Knicks game. Can he explain to the fans and convince the fans that the way the coach, not just Mchale but Sampson too has the tendency of benching Lin and sub Lin even when there's good games from Lin? everybody is questioning the coachs decision not just the fans. Fans just want their voice heard. Do you expected people go on a protest and being nice and saying good thing? Do you expected people who let out of their anger to say nice things? The coach and the rockets didn't seem to get serious of the fans and yes this guy is getting really serious and pissed by the fans. Or maybe he represent the rockets? Well, I am glad he's pissed. Cause we pissed too.with all I said, I do, also think maybe fans need to relax a little bit too, but again I understand their feelings. I know where their directions come from.
DeleteI prefer Jonathan Feigen's twittering and articles. Also Howard Beck, Jared Dubin (JADubin5) to name a few. I find them to be impartial, have good insights and whenever there's untruth of Lin's contract etc, they are not unafraid to tweet the truth. The most recent is the case where Woodson told a porky about Lin's contract and a fan who believes that Lin chooses not to be a Knick.
DeleteJADubin5
-Woodson, good at spin: "Jeremy decided to take the Houston deal and he has every right to do that..." as if the Knicks ever offered a deal.
-NY told him,as a restricted FA, to go set his market and they would match, so he did. NY never offered a contract
There's quite a few...they're all on 18 December in case anyone is interested to read.
Not too keen on JasonCF - not impartial and a little bit bias. Don't blame him since his bread and butter is with the Rockets.
"To clarify, when I say "cast aspersions" on the coaching, I don't mean the quality of it, because bad coaching should be criticised. Rather, it is personal and professional insults regarding their moral characters, even though there is scarcely any evidence of malice, other than a few soundbites, which wouldn't hold up in any serious discussion."
Delete- Perhaps malice was too strong a word to use. DELIBERATE obtuseness on continuing on a path that could be damaging for another, then. They are certainly aware of the problems [I refuse to believe they are too stupid to see what everybody and their mother is pointing out about their "system." They CANNOT be that clueless, and be in that position of responsibility.] The fact is, they were CHOOSING to not change up their plan, and it has put JLin in a bad position. Omission is much worst that commission, since the former allows for people to procrastinate, and hide from taking responsibility, this while their "system" continue to hurt JLin. To CHOOSE to allow the problem to linger, to DELIBERATELY not address it [How could they have not make adjustments by now?!], to ALLOW "damage" to continue -> If one is not competent to fulfil the job, continuing to occupy the seat of authority/ decision is unforgivable. This is not OJT.
Can you blame people for thinking things about McHale? He's short on explanations, long on platitudes. Why did they reduce JLin's role to such, when it's clear he can work with Harden in a more effective manner? It is unreasonable to expect people to give him a mile wide benefit of the doubt when you see a trend of benching JLin inexplicably. After Keith Smart, after all that's happened to JLin, people may have a knee-jerk reaction to things AND IT WOULD BE A REASONABLE REACTION. Bcos no other reason would explain their behavior towards JLin.
If it was bcos of a poor first impression, then McHale is again CHOOSING to favor his poor judgment even when it has been disproved in REAL LIFE. [the SA game.] WHATEVER the reason, it had been another person [JLin] who has had to pay. To keep letting such a situation go on when you are aware of where the problems lies and of who's getting shafted..! Yeah, his solution had been to not set the conditions for him to thrive but give a throw-away cheer: Be aggressive! Be aggressive!

The thing about Jason was HE SINGLED OUT A GROUP OF PEOPLE. He sounded kinda parochial actually. :)
Really, it's easy to dump on people from Asia, who hasn't, right? No, those tweets didn't ALL come from those fanatical, bball-ignorant fans FROM ASIA.
Also, he make it sound like they don't make any valid points. They do. So maybe the...histrionic quality of te delivery might take away some credibility. But shouldn't he be intelligent enough to parse the substance from the style? No, he takes it personal. It's those Asians vs The American Way. He's a pro, he should be more broad-minded and more sophisticated about dealing with all kinds of people from all kinds of cultures.
Whether they care about the Rox winning or not does not take away from the validity of these fans' observations. He makes it sound like these people are ignorant [yeah, along with most bball commentators outside HOU who are saying the same things.] They are not ignorant, they are merely obnoxious and unPC. I understand he feels embattled having to defend the Rox indefensible "system", well that's not the fans' fault.
I get the feeling people are now feeling icky bcos getting lumped in with these "unbehaving" fans is not respectable. [I'm not one of them!] Yeah, they might be a bit...overzealous. They are fans nevertheless, I don't look down on them.
*misbehaving
DeleteHe sounded parochial because he is parochial. He was a longtime member of crotch fans long before he got his current gig. As such, he exhibits the insular, provincial, pretentious tone characteristic of that little corner of the internet. You can even see it in his game recaps and stories on rockets.com.
DeleteI won't even be that surprised if the Rockets relegate Lin to the corner 3 yet again. It's completely obvious to everyone (fans and media) except the Rockets that the optimal strategy for the team to win is to have Lin initiate the offense, and Harden play off the ball. Let's be honest, Lin is not a spot up shooter, but Harden is. But at the same time, Lin elevates the play of lesser teammates, Harden doesn't as much.
ReplyDeleteTrying to force Lin to be a spot up shooter is as dumb as trying to have Melo be a point forward.
There's got to be a balance. Often when Lin goes for a layup, he ends up on the floor. That's a defensive tactic of his to flop and cushion his fall after being fouled/man handled. The coaches must have hearts in their mouths because the risk is that Lin will one day end up with a broken nose, collar bone, jammed knee etc. Harden is much more robust and seems better able to avoid potential injuries from opposition's attempted fouls/blocks.
DeleteAs coach do you let Lin expose himself to the higher risk, especially if the team can win without such antics?
I am beginning to see a lot more variation in the play, at least when the team is in sync. For example, when Harden is starting the PnR, Lin is at the corner spacing. But that doesn't mean he always stays there. Since a few games back, he has started doing cross court cuts along the baseline; alternatively, there is usual run along the perimeter for a hand-off; then there is of course getting the ball for the post up shot. It's not a bad series of options, and I think Lin's off-the-ball play is gradually improving. He's beginning to be a lot more unpredictable from the corner than at the start of the season.
DeleteHe still needs to get to run a lot more PnRs than he currently does, but Lin is becoming far more than an afterthought as an off-the-ball option. I remain very optimistic that McHale, Lin and Harden can make it work.
I am not optimistic about this game. The Rockets might win becasue the 76ers are struggling as of late. But Lin is most likely to go back to his passive, corner standing role while Harden continues to handle the ball and put up his big numbers in iso fashion.
ReplyDeleteJeremy Lin shows New York why he's a keeper - Ian O'Connor (ESPN New York)
ReplyDeletenot a fan of this article. the worst one yet. he's trying to stir drama up between HOU/Lin/Harden.
DeleteSource? Who are these sources?
didn't believe this article one bit. same media who spin the melo vs Lin issue. Hope the fans wont be too quick to hate on Harden.
DeleteI mentioned that this was not a great piece the first time it was posted (in one of the earlier game day posts or something) and I am glad you guys share my distaste! :)
Deletemaybe I am too naive, but I see he is saying what everyone was seeing, and what the coaches refused to acknowledge - that Lin should be "THE" floor general. Isn't it?
DeleteI believe Ian is one of the Lin believers/supporters in ESPN and among all sports writers.
I trust Ian's source and I think this is absolutely true. It would look bad if Lin were to come out and say he hates this offense, but his friend can and it won't look bad. The coaches are hurting him as a player and also his brand. If this continues, his agents will request for a trade. If the coaches are still here next season, Lin won't be here.
DeleteTo be honest, I hope the coaches continue to lose games where they are supposed to win, this is the only clear way to get rid to these two clowns. If they are still here next season, it will only hurt Lin's development. If Rockets make the playoff, it will be hard to fire the coaches.
Deleteguess whose shooting percentages (fg, 2p, ft) are now better than deron williams?... lol
ReplyDeleteLin? Really? Hooray!!!!!!!!
Delete(singing) Joy to world...
(oh sorry, I got carried away :-) )
Funny, Deron seems to be in a similar predicament as Lin. Claims he's struggling because the offense is too ISO-heavy unlike Utah where he had freedom.
DeleteDoes anybody know how to download CSN videos like this one?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.csnhouston.com/rockets/calvin-murphy-impressed-lins-game
I've tried Coojah, Replay Media Catcher 4, URLSnooper 2 with jDownloader, but none of them work. CSN Houston must reaaally not want people downloading their content.
Anybody know how to do it?
Calvin Murphy relates to Lin more because he was a PG as well. It is also no surprise that Clyde Drexler favors Harden more as he was also a former SG himself. Still, even many Rockets fans will tell you that Murphy is a good analyst while Drexler is an idiot one.
Deleteif all else fails, use a normal screen capturing software. i'm not too familiar with them, though simple ones like BSR come to mind? or record with camera videos?
Deletetried any of the firefox extensions recorders?
Hit the arrow brah...
Delete@10/10
DeleteHit the arrow? I don't get it.
Are you saying hit the arrow to watch the video? If that's what you're saying, I know how to watch the video.
I'm asking how to save the video to your hard drive...
@ntt
I haven't tried BSR. Is it any different/better than Replay Media Catcher?
Rox coaching staff isn't stupid. what they saw in NY was their double headed dragon attack finally working. They're going to continue to ride it because that's what mchale planned to do from the start. It only wasn't working before because shuhow was playing too passive and harden was shoot first as the franchise. But now that shuhow is proving to be a reliable threat and playing aggressive (finally), this spreads the court for harden and the rest of the team to get MUCH easier looks at the basket. I expect the team's long range shooting percentage to improve as a result also.
ReplyDeleteoff topic, but something that i've been constantly trying to get "knicks fans" to realize is that from a basketball perspective, the knicks are NOT better with felton at the helm this year than if shuhow remained a knick. the knicks are 18-6 right now, true, but felton is just a servicable pg who is already past his peak. the knicks are dominating the east because of melo's transcendent playmaking this year, and the additions of more experience and depth at pg, namely kidd. but if you really think about it, shuhow hit the stage in february when the knicks were 8-15, having lost 11 in a row, stoudemire in florida because his brother died, bibby/davis/douglas/shumpert either injured or not getting the job done, novak doing nothing, and just melo acting frustrated with dantoni, and the whole NYK world was collapsing. then shuhow leads them to a 7 game winning streak, AFTER melo injures his groin and finishes 9-3 before the all star break as the starting pg. Now, knick fans are acting delusional by suggesting that felton is a better pg than shuhow, that somehow shuhow couldn't lead the knicks to a 18-6 start or better. these NYK fans need to realize that they missed out on a true superstar in the making and gave it up because melo was jealous. Some make the argument that felton's numbers are better this year than Lin's. well that may be true, for now, but the knicks are a deep experienced team, AND they have KIDD. Houston is a revamped young team. and besides, Lin dominated Felton TWICE this year. so what does that say about numbers? The only point i'm trying to make here is that despite the NYK success thus far, they could've been so much better with shuhow running the point. they could've been much better than 18-6 by now, with shuhow's decreased turnovers and high efficiency this year. I think they'd win the championship. Not only that, i read a comment somewhere (which i agree with more as i think about it) that NY might have had 3 all stars representing them in the east with melo, tyson and shuhow. Think of all the opportunities if that were to happen. But dolan had to screw it all up because his fool azz didn't want to pay the luxury tax (amare's $100MM anyone?). let's face it, NY didn't want him to begin with since melo was being a b!tch about it, so that's why they told shuhow to test the market. but if you're a knick fan, and you believe that NYK is better with felton and not with shuhow for basketball reasons, then you're a fool. sure, they got a servicable pg for less money, but they voted off a superstar in the making.
Ah yes, what could ve been. New york was picture perfect, heaven sent. Oh well. Now we're faced with what could be...if only mchale cooperates. The funny part about the Rox is I don't believe Lin has evolved his game all that much, but it is the coaches who are beginning to evolve. Shoot Rome wasn't built in a day, but it surely wasn't built in a millenium either. Now Mchale's got the eye of the world on him. Let's see what he is made of, cuz we know already what Lin is made of.
DeleteWatch out for Evan Turner.
ReplyDeleteThat guy is like a 6'6" Jeremy Lin with less speed and less court awareness, but he does a lot of the same offensive things that Lin does.
When I watch Turner play, my fear is that he goes into "breakdown" mode where he goes iso on offense and takes on a whole team. Unlike most players who hurt their teams when they isolate themselves, Turner actually helps because he's like a runaway bowling ball when he gets it in his mind to put the ball on the floor and score. If Turner gets into a rhythm, he bashes around the court and nobody can contain him including his teammates and coach!
As explosive as Turner can be, he is NOT the player that Jeremy Lin is. It amazes me that Turner was #2 overall in the same year Jeremy Lin went undrafted, yet Lin has been much more impactful and productive thus far.
I still remember how Turner dominated the Knicks last year in that last (?) MDA coached Knicks game. Turner, actually much like Jeremy lol, is lacking a reliable jump shot and some consisteny from game to game.
Deleteall i gotta say about the NYK is that melo better stay healthy in the playoffs. I don't care how well shumpert and stat come back off of injuries, if melo gets hurt it's game over. I'm actually betting on it.
DeleteThis season Turner is shooting .415 on jumpshots overall, which is very good, and .463 from 3 pt range, which is excellent.
DeleteEvan Turner has improved quite a lot this season. His FG% and 3p% are pretty impressive: 0.442 & 0.468 respectively. He might give Jeremy a bit of trouble in this game. I hope Jeremy plays well against him and the Rockets win.
DeleteTurner is a small forward. Lin and Turner won't be matched up unless it's in transition or defensive switches.
DeleteI view Evan Turner as strictly a point guard.
DeleteHe really could become a modern day Anfernee Hardaway if the Sixers used him that way. But the Sixers are desicatwd to Jrue Holiday who I do not feel is the point guard talent that Turner is.
Evan Turner would be a tough matchup for Lin if Turner was the Sixers point guard. When Turner gets into a rhythm, there's little anyone can do to stop him.
I'm a bit looking forward to the match up of Jeremy vs Jrue Holiday
Deletebballbreakdown - Rockets at Knicks: Can McHale Make Lin & Harden Work?
ReplyDeleteHe's saying exactly what the entire world is thinking (outside of HOU).
DeleteThis one is worth watching, even though a lot of it is about the Knicks rather than the Rockets.
DeleteHe thinks the Rox can get a 4th or 5th seed if McHale figures out how to balance Harden and Lin. I am not sure who among OKC, LAC, MEM, SAS and GSW (and potentially even the LAL) HOU can displace, though. Probably a bit optimistic there.
I liked that he pointed out that Lin and Harden have a tendency to help one pass away when that's the kind of thing you shouldn't do even at HS level. Probably the main thing that annoys me right now.
Oh, look at the HOU forums, barely any of their fans have bothered to watch or comment on the video. No surprise here...
DeleteI liked the fluidity of the Rox at around the 55s mark of this video, where Lin runs to the corner, looking like the usual spot up postion, but seeing the paint empty, cuts inside for an easy layup. (Helped a bit by Felton trying to move in position to prevent a pass rather than the more orthodox defensive position of keeping yourself between the man and the basket.)
Deletebahahaha one of the comments on the video is to change the video title to: make RUSH HOUR 4 work!
DeleteYes. If harden and Lin can work it out. We should be sure to see them in playoff!!!!

ReplyDeleteYou decide: What were the top sports story of 2012?
Linsanity
Did Jeremy Lin Rebuild His Bridge Back to the New York Knicks?
ReplyDeleteLin might be the only NBA player alive where writers speculate where he will go in free agency when he is still in the first year of a three year contract!
DeleteI have this gut feeling that one day Jlin will be back with the Knicks. I know it sounds crazy..but I can see it happening in the next 5-6 years.
DeleteEvery day there are several Jeremy Lin stories on each of these sites: Bleacher Report, Clutchfans, and DreamShake, and other non-Rockets' sites. The articles are often negative and not very accurate, but they consistently generate hundreds of responses. Who else in the NBA get this type of attention? Linsanity lives on.
DeleteLol exactly Linsanity is being perpetuated by the media good or bad...Cause they know what people wants to read.
DeleteBTW Y'all keep voting lets get JLin into all stars! Yes this will cause haters to hate even more, but who cares, they will hate regardless of what Lin does anyway.
@kenOshi I really really want to see him got voted to all star. But 55000 votes...away can we do it? Btw you guys said clean the browser history does it works? I don't think so?
DeleteHave been voting for him for AllStar :P If it's all about the numbers etc, what's the use of having a voting system. Might as well just choose the top 3 frontcourt players and top 2 guards. I even put in Jared Jeffries for my optional write in vote. Still remember how he had a word with JasonTerry for fouling Lin.
DeleteAs long as Dolan is the owner, I don't see him back with the Knicks. He loves NY fans and playing in the Garden, but I don't see him signing with the Knicks if he has a choice to go elsewhere. Dolan had his people did the dirty job for him and assassinate Lin's character. Who would want to work for a shady clown (who happens to know nothing about the game of basketball and who relies on shady Isiah Thomas for advice)? I still think that Thomas was of the the main reasons why Lin is no longer with the Knicks. Lin is all trust and integrity. If Lin were to come to the Knicks willingly, then I misjudge his character.

Deletefor example, if you use internet explorer, once you are done with one vote, click "Tools" -> "Internet Options" -> in "Browsing history" of "General" tab, click "Delete", then "OK" to close the "Internet Options" popup window, then you can vote again.
If you are patient enough, you can go through the cycle to vote again and again <-- I did it every day.
Will try. Haha..I agree with Cjw too. NBA shouldn't bother us fans. They should just go ahead and pick out the best stat performance player. Wouldn't that more fair? If people are talkabout being fair and deserve? Stop bothering us fans to vote lol. Sick NBA.
Deletewhat Dolan failed to recognize, is just by having Jeremy on your team, a good lot of coaches would like to coach your team. just having a really good mentor for your team not just helps Lin, but also the WHOLE team.
Delete1. Phil Jackson - likes Lin's game way, way, way BEFORE Linsanity erupted. seen the kid play during summer league before being drafted into GSW. lots of Lakers diehards have agreed that Lin is Phil Jackson's type of player. guy's willing to come out of retirement if only Dolan swallowed his black hole of an ego.
2. Jerry Sloan - dropped anvils wanting to coach the Knicks when D'Antoni resigned last season. with his flow offense, it will benefit not just Lin but also Tyson and Amar'e
3. an unnamed top executive, I have a gut feel this is either Kupchak or Cuban - “I think Jeremy has proven that he’s a starter in the league. In the right situation, with the right coach, the right spacing, you have to account for his production in the paint."
4. an unnamed assistant coach, no idea who he is - "He does one of the things you have to do to have offensive success in the league, which is collapse the (defense) through penetration or through playing through the post" - validates that he is indeed Zen Master's type of player.
5. an unnamed head coach, I have a gut feel this is either Spoelstra or Popovich - "You’re getting a dynamic player. Whether you say it is a short time or not, he’s proven capable of doing that. I think he’s a guy that’s grown a lot over the last year."
What a monkey to get off your back... That is, getting that Knicks game over with and doing so with 22 points and 8 assists. That has GOT to be so mind cleansing. I predict Lin will be more reliable from this day out.
ReplyDeleteAs many on here understand, Lin is a 1st tier NBA guard in the making and luck, faith, or whatever it was allowed him to get a chance to shine in NYC last year. It is amazing without that chance, he'd be out of the league today. Says a lot about fairness in the USA, but then again, it's like that everywhere in the world in all points across history.
ReplyDeleteLin is far from perfect or a complete product, but aside from us on here, nobody wanted to believe that Lin is 1st rate and was passed over for obvious reasons we don't need to rehash anymore. But for some reason, the NYC game performance helped Lin win over some believers in the media, I feel for the first time. People are expressing support for him now, and some media heads are actually writing pieces saying the Rox are stifling his ability, and on some level, that amazes me more than Lin's performances, which I expect from this kid.
Thanks for Lin's own outbursts in NYC and Spurs, it helped give him credibility that he can honestly perform at some real level. Plus his PR/Agent team is leaking out messages to people like Ian Begley and Ric Bucher who put it out there Lin is being stifled by the Rox. His trainer said the same...Jonathan Feigan put that piece out about how Frazier believes that Lin needs the ball and Feigan is respected in the NBA media circles. C
Calvin Murphy on TV, literally said everything we here already know - let Lin run the show and Harden will get easier points while leading the team in scoring efficiently, albeit in a less dynamic fashion. Sadly, the Rockets don't want that - I believe they know they can have that, but if they play that way, Lin will become the face of the franchise even if Lin is 2nd or 3rd leading scorer because Lin will become the dynamic catalyst of the team. Since they've already committed max money to Harden, Rox will NEVER do it unless Harden gets injured.
This Rockets team just will never do that, never completely whether it's because Morey wants to look like a genius for singing Harden; or Lin's inconsistent nature game to game; or the team or coaches' own inherent biases and philosophies, or ownership for all we know. However, even if they just do that to some degree in letting Lin have the ball and give him some decent screens, it will probably be enough for Lin to produce and for this team to start really stringing some wins...
Agreed.
DeleteI am not expecting McHale to continue playing Lin like he had in the Knicks game. Going to see majority of plays set for Harden or Parsons again.
I could be wrong, I'd be glad to be wrong in this case.
If I was an NBA GM, I would have signed Lin this summer, get 1 true elite big, and a bunch of guys to build around them. Lin plays best with SG's like an Iman Shumpert/Tony Allen type or a Ray Allen/Michael Redd type. There are guys like that the Rocket's could have nabbed and in fact, Kmart was that guy in the Allen/Redd mold though he ballhogged a bit much in pre-season trying to do too much.
DeleteI guess the Rockets did build a team like that around Lin this summer, although Asik is no elite big man. Luckily they have Smith to fill the void.
I like Harden, and he is really effective, and he is not selfish really. The Rockets just bungled this whole thing and hopefully they will fix it sooner than later. Either way, Lin has proven to us and to everyone who matters now that he can play. If he is stifled, he'll still average 13,5,4,2 during his time with the Rox this year. And he can bolt after yr 3 if they treat him like trash. But I think Lin is too effective for even the Rockets' coaches to continually misuse.
I think on some level, the Harden signing screamed " We don't believe in Jlin"....
DeleteI don't see the Harden signing as a slight to Lin at all.
DeleteIf anything, the Harden signing was thought of by Les Alexander as a VOTE OF CONFIDENCE in Lin and his ability to play team basketball.
Les Alexander is a VERY SHREWD guy who thinks like one of us here and likely surfs this site regularly. He knew that he had a team cancer in Kevin Martin who wasn't going to flow the ball through Lin, so Les ditched the cancer for a good combo guard who could help Lin out. Mission accomplished.
However, the Rockets coaching staff is sorely divided. On one hand you have McHale and Sampson who believe in superstar iso ball and all that while on the other hand there appears to be guys like Chris Finch who are Les Alexander's handpicked guys forced on McHale.
Likely Lin is caught in this power struggle between Les's desire to make Lin a superstar and McHale's reliance on so called "veterans". But have no fear, Lin is playing his way out of this mess.
Les Alexander is a very slick and smart Lin fanboy. He knows EXACTLY what he has in Lin as a budding superstar.
Damian lillard only play for 23 games yet alreay the go to guy of Portland according to the NBA. It has been said they already want to build the team around lillard. So there you go. Lin's 25 games not enough. Also how he performs recently against the spur and Knicks might not be enough too. People already talk and agree Damian lillard is a big time player and yet some Fans even compare his games and said better than Lin. 23 games and 25 games. Hm...23 is not short huh? 25 is short.
DeleteIts not just them. Its also the Lin fans here. Just a few days ago some regular posters claimed that it was the right decision for McHale to bench Lin for Douglas and stuff like that.
DeleteNow - after the Knicks game everyone suddenly agrees that Lin has been stifled by McHale all along (what some people here knew even before the media posted articles supporting that idea). So let me just ask those "fans" - WTF?
You guys change opinions faster than the wind changes direction. Should real fans blame and doubt their athlete all the time? Can you take pride in that? Do you think that by posting a long post that states the opposite of what you posted before makes it all go away?
If Lin has been stifled all along then benching Lin was part of that. If Lin has been stifled it means that you guys had no grounds to blame Lin in any way. If you have ever competed in team sports you should know that not getting support from your coach and teammates can absolutely ruin your performance. Go back - read your own posts in which you complained about Lin not having balls, passing too much, thinking too much, shooting badly and whatever...
Willy I think its a measure of not knowing what the heck is going on.
DeleteLin's weaknesses are a legitimate concern. There were games where obviously he did really well, then there are some where he tanked pretty badly.
We all know what his weaknesses are, and obviously fans like to speculate.
For example:
1. Is it because Lin is scared?
2. Is it because Lin is inexperienced?
3. Is it because Lin can't handle the anxiety?
4. Is it because McHale/Sampson has it out for Lin by purposely playing his weaknesses?
5. Or is it because McHale and Sampson is hard on Lin because they know to become championship material they need Lin to develop said skills and purposely played his weak side?
6. Is it because his knees are still the problem and his time is being carefully limited?
7. Or is it because the coaches really want their star player to look bad to make a statement?
8. Why does Lin overhelp so much that he loses his player all the time? Its so obvious! (to us)
9. Why does Lin hesitate to shoot and defer so much even though he's being told to be more aggressive, to the point he threw away points? Its so obvious! (again, to us)
10. Does Lin exist better off the bench?
11. Does TD work out better with Harden than Lin with Harden, and vice versa?
12. WILL LIN EVER WORK OUT WITH HARDEN AS A BACKCOURT COMBINATION?
Actions speak louder than words, and well we all know Lin has talent but the past 24 games haven't exactly been stellar. Consistency with Lin is almost non-existent, he frequently has ups and downs and is easily affected with any kind of a loss or embarrassment or admonition. I know he is tough, but you gotta wonder if he is stressing himself out sometimes.
Its easy to compare stat lines and see Lillard is outplaying Lin. Long time fans know better of course, Lillard doesn't hold a candle to Lin, he is ROY at best. But Lillard is having a good start, granted he has max contract Aldridge and human fly swatter Batum to play with.
Faith is one thing, but as fans we can't blindly ignore everything and just hail him as the next coming of John Stockton. I'm sure either he or maybe his friends probably trolls these boards, I'd say maybe even some on the coaching staff. If he does as I speculate then it doesn't hurt for him to hear what fans feel.
At the end of the day, we're still watching his games, wishing him well, applauding him for his humanity and humbleness, something that is just so darn refreshing in the NBA.
A lot of us love Lin not just for his game. We just want to see him have more opportunities to shine.
I for example, instead of watching Lin suffer, would much rather have seen him play off the bench where he is utilized to his fullest, because for all appearances JLin and Harden just wasn't working out because Harden has the ball too much.
DeleteThere is nothing wrong with that, if he can do that and establish himself, he will shine. Lin makes everyone better, and with him off the bench we'd have an incredible 2nd team.
Of course, that was before we saw first hand that indeed he CAN co-exist with Harden vs Knicks. But then again it all depends on the coaching team to make the adjustment, which I don't have confidence of.
If he can come off the bench and put up all star numbers say 18-20pts/8assists/2TOs/3 steals etc, that is infinitely better than watching him suffer and put up 4pt/3assists per night.
It's the end of 2012 and I just want to say:
ReplyDeleteJeremy Lin is the REAL 2012 Person Of The Year.
I don't need anyone else to tell me otherwise and I don't need scam organizations like TIME, Google, CNN, Fox News, Sports Illustrated to give me any validation! We all are the controllers and deciders of our lives and give me an AMEN if you agree!!!
Amen!
DeleteSadly, Obama was the Person of the Year for TIME magazine. I can confidently say that he is the person of the year only if you are getting paid and funded by Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Bain Capital.
DeleteIt's disgusting how people have once took these fraud magazines or media outlets as legitimate opinions. Thanks to the internet, we have the truth and transparency to see real public opinion. Unfortunately, TIME must be run by 80 year old men who think the young generation cannot see whats going on.
Sadly ? Obama deserves the person of year. Obama won despite the fact that he is black man dealing with Bull shit congress. I love Lin but his impact on the USA and world is not the same as Obama. BTW all Wall street hates Obama. Wall street spent billions to defeat Obama. They don't like a person like him being the president
DeleteCan we keep Obama out of here plz?
DeleteThis is a Lin board.
Yes me no fan of Obama, can care less if he wins some lame award that no one cares about. To me he is still a scrub.
Lol. Have some respect for the president.I like Obama. He seems a good man with a good heart indeed. They different. One is in sport world one 's in politic world.
DeleteAny of you remember that Ben Bernanke was 2009 person of the year? Just sayyin' how f'ed up is that
DeleteMuch has been said about whether Lin and Harden can coexist together on the floor together. But in my opinion, the bigger question is whether Lin and Asik can coexist together. Last year Jeremy had Tyson Chandler who understood his role as defensive enforcer, rebounder, pick and roll guy, and alley oop finisher. One thing Tyson was good at is clearing the lane for Jeremy to get to the rim by boxing out his man. You almost never saw Tyson posting up with his back to the basket, clogging up Jeremy's driving lanes. Asik is a good rebounder and can block shots, but he is not what you call an enforcer, not great at setting picks, and does not play above the rim (can't finish an alley oop). Asik also thinks he is an offensive player and sets up in the post which leaves the opposing shot blocker under the basket and clogs up Jeremy's driving lanes. Tyson is shooting 70% from the field and 70% free throws, Asik is shooting 48% from the field and 51% free throws. Asik also does not catch the ball well and does not finish strong. In my opinion much of Jeremy's struggles this year is due to Asik not Harden.
ReplyDeleteThe sooner Greg Smith takes on Tyson's role, the sooner Linsanity will reappear on a consistent basis.
DeleteIts more like can Asik coexist with anyone?
DeleteHis ability to finish isn't great. He needs to develop some treetrunks and GET UP THERE AND DUNK. He needs to actually not keep the ball down low so much and get stripped by guards...He is horrible at catching low bounce passes so on and so forth.
He can be a beast at the boards, but we need him to finish. Lin is directly affected by his inability to score the simplest layups sometimes.
Have you guys noticed that Asik almost always loses the opening tip? That's because he can't jump. He is 7ft so he can dunk, but he can't go up and grab the ball and dunk in one motion. Also his shots are blocked way too much for a 7 footer. Asik is a huge liability offensively. Instead of trading Lin, people should be asking to trade Asik.
DeletePrediction tonight:
Rockets by 9
Jeremy 14/8.
Asik 3 fumbles, 2 strips, 3 blown assists
Asik needs to do MAJOR playometric training and do some power cleans etc in the summer and run some sprints. If Brook Lopez can become more athletic over the summer, so can Asik.
DeleteForget working with Dawson, a guy like Asik could use some athletic improvement.
I agree Smith is a far better person to team with Lin.
Asik is HORRIBLE at outlet passing. He must turn the ball over 2 times a game because he passes to the wrong guy under the opponent's basket. They need to tell him to outlet only to Lin unless Lin is 100% fully covered by a double team so that would stop happening.
Asik does set good screens and does other little things well...he is a team guy who is not trying to ball hog or anything like that or get the glory. Probably is an ideal elite backup big man unless he improves his offense, which to me is possible if he worked purely on athleticism all summer and dropped a few pounds in an effort to get a little bouncier.
DeleteAsik's got his deficiencies as an offensive player. I agree, but he's got some assets as well. He's mobile ( a european trait), makes his fts, rebounds, able to post up, run the floor in transition, able to dunk, etc. He is a jack of all trades but a master of none. Jeremy can work with that no doubt. I think you're blaming the wrong person. Actually it shouldn't be a blame on either asik or harden. If you compare his fg% with other centers in the league, his career avg is .510%. Anything above .500 is considered good to very good. So Asik is adequate for in game situations, just not at crunch time. Certainly Lin needs him and he needs Lin. I don't think we've seen both of them work together that much yet. Once Lin is handed over the pg duties you will see both asik and lin's numbers will go up.
DeleteHere are my expectations for tonights game for Jeremy.
ReplyDelete18 pts in over 40% shooting. So he will probably take around 15 shots. And 8 assists. We will see him more with the ball and playing with Harden. I think this will became the avg ahead. 16-18 points and 8 assists. He will def have some 20+ games when needed.
I don't even want to imagine what my expectations would be if he would have had a bad game and lost monday. But now that that's over with and McHale did a great job with subs I think that's going to start being the norm. I expect Rockets to win today too. :D
this game we will see if the coaches have allowed Jlin to coexist with James Harden
ReplyDeletei am still suffering post traumatic stress from the coaches benching and punishing lin with every single mistake that he makes. "knee jerk coaching" i hope that this is a product from the sampson period and now that machale is back. No more of this nonsense. If you look at the rockets vs trailblazers game. Damian lillard was contained and quiet the whole game until the 4th he fired up, after Batum heated up. The coaches stucked out with him and it paid off.
ReplyDeleteme too man, me too. I still have flashbacks of that Portland OT game.
