Rockets vs Trail Blazers Game #3 Pregame Thread

11/3 (Sat) Rockets vs Trail Blazers 5PM (PT)
11/7 (Wed) Rockets vs Nuggets 5PM (PT)
11/9 (Fri) Rockets @ Grizzilies 5PM (PT)

Can't wait to see Bay Area products Damian Lillard and Jeremy Lin go at. Lillard will be in the running for ROY.

  1. The bench of the rockets must step up and produce. I just saw the bench of the Clippers totally destroyed the Lakers.

McHale needs to start playing the the rookies. The starter needs some rest. Those rookies might be able to give some scoring.

Parsons, Asik and Patterson better produce tomorrow. The last thing we need is an injured backcourt.

Do something about Douglas. Bench him and get a backup point guard for goodness sake. Douglas shouldn't run the offense.

harden and Lin should play less than 35 minutes for tonights game

    1. I mentioned this in the Hawks game thread, but how about Earl Boykins?

Boykins is a FA whose contract with the Rockets ran out last season, so they could sign him to a dirt-cheap veteran's minimum contract. He takes care of the ball, can hit outside jumpers, and as recent as 2010-2011, he had a 17.6 PER in 15mpg. He's old (36) but still younger than Derek Fisher (38). And he's probably a major defensive liability, but being 5-5 means he won't get his dribble taken away under pressure.

Not to mention KHuang approves of him. And who knows? As an old veteran who's been mocked and counted out all his life, Boykins could be a good mentor to our man Jeremy.

      Delete
    2. I agree, except he will be a defensive liability like you said. Giving him a try won't hurt, but I would like for them to try and let Machado play and see how it works out for him.

      Delete
    3. I still like Machado despite his dumb comments (he was suckered by a NY reporter), but I don't think he's ready to play real NBA minutes. He'd be as weak as Boykins on defense without Earl's jumper, quickness and veteran guts.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4Krx9L0BFM

I think Earl can still play if given the chance. Rockets would need to cut or trade someone though (Cook would be my pick).

    4. Why aren't they letting Cook play LOL...

    5. This is regarding the Rockets @Hawks (as it is my first comment about it).

The first-year rebuilding Rockets look really good already! Therefore, they NEED ANOTHER BIG STAR or two as soon as possible! And also, improve the bench a little.

Going by today's game (November 2), in my opinion, the rebuilding Rockets look better than the mega-salaried Nits.

The reason why I feel that way is because, although the Nits won by a huge 20 points at home against the champion Heat, the Nit's won overwhelmingly on their lucky 3 point shooting: Tonight the Nits were an astonishing 19 of 36 (52.8%) from downtown, mostly by 5 players - which is indicative of an unusually poor defense by the Heat (the Heat were only 7 of 20 from beyond the arc), while the Nits were inspired by the fans coming to see them in the wake of the Superstorm Sandy's horror...... 3-point shooting comes and goes and teams cannot always rely on easy uncontested 3-pointers.

By contrast, the young Rockets managed to win in an ugly fashion: They had a lot of turnovers and 3-pointers weren't falling in tonight. Yet they won by 7 points on the road against a good team, which is a testament to their gritty character and team work. I'm very impressed by the Rockets so far, and I believe they will be a good team a good team already this year.

Therefore, since the Rockets are showing promise already, Morey needs to acquire another big star ASAP - and not wait until February or next season.

    6. @nephelauxetic,

I have a feeling that McHale will give some minutes to the brand new rookies once they have more team-practice time under their belt.

In all 3 Lakers' losing games, their bench was weak.

In both of the Rockets' 2 winning games, their bench was weak.

The difference between the two teams was that the reasonably well paid Rockets stars have far out- produced the Lakers MEGA-PAID stars.

    7. zrta,

The Knicks rely mainly on their defense to win.

The Knicks formula is stingy defense first and foremost (hence, the depth and defense-oriented vets), complemented by disciplined play and low turnovers (hence the vets and PG acquisitions), and enough points from Anthony and whomever helps him score that night.

All lessons that the young Rockets will need to learn. So far so good.

  2. Rockets vs. Portland Match-ups

    Starting 5 Match-Ups:

    PG: Lin vs. Lillard
    SG: Harden vs. W. Matthews
SF: C. Parsons vs. N. Batum
PF: P. Patterson vs. L. Aldrige
    C: Asik vs. J. Hickson

Who do you guys think will win the starting 5 match ups per position?

Which one's will be a good starting 5 match up?

*Lin vs. Lillard should be fun to watch.
    *Harden should destroy W. Matthews.
*C. Parsons and N. Batum should be a good match up.
*Going to be a long night for P. Patterson trying to keep L. Aldrige in check.
*Asik should be able to shutdown J. Hickson on the defensive end.

    Bench Match-Ups:

PG: Machado (I think they should try this) vs. N. Smith
SG: T. Douglas (I think they should experiment with him playing this position) vs. W. Barton
    SF: Delfino vs. L. Babbitt
PF: M. Morris vs. J. Jeffries
    C: C. Aldrich vs. M. Leonard

I think the Houston bench looks better than the Portland bench. So I think they should let the bench players play more minutes in this game if the opportunity strikes.

    1. Aldridge will be a load. The Rockets will really work hard to contain him. He's certainly faster and better than Greg Monroe so Asik cannot guard him. On the other hand, Patterson isn't big enough to contest his post shots. They might need to double team or shut down everyone and let Aldridge be guarded one-on-one.

They should try putting asik initially on Aldridge. If he can match up with his footspeed then continue it. Aldridge is also deadly from the mid-range.

This is probably tougher than the Memphis game since Aldridge is way better than both Gasol and Randolph.

However, the Blazers also played yesterday like the Rockets so the Rockets still have more weapon than the Blazers.

      Rockets by 9

      Delete
    2. If Jeremy Lin can shut down Lillard on the defensive end. I don't see the Blazers winning. Aldridge can get his 30points, but the rest of the team won't have a good FG% night.

I think it will be a close game though. Rockets by 3.

      Delete
    3. I think they should let Aldridge get his 35-40 points. I'm expecting that performance from him. There is no way Asik, Jones, Morris, Aldrich, Patterson, and DMo can guard Aldridge. They are going to get clobbered inside with the exception of Asik. However, Aldridge cannot be guarded in the perimeter by Asik. No way.

I've watched Aldridge last season dominate Perkins and Ibaka at the same game. He made them look like a bunch of rookies. The two couldn't stop Aldridge at all. Ibaka and Perkins are no defensive scrubs at all but Aldridge made them look that way.

The Rockets just need to shut down Batum and Lillard. Then, they are in good position.

      Delete
    4. This will be a team effort win, everyone needs to score in double digits if Harden incredible shooting % cools down. Jlin will have to pick up the slack and take over the scoring load if Harden can't hit anything.

      C. Parsons & Delfino will need to hit big 3 point shots.

Asik will get his rebounds, but like you said, Patterson and Asik will have trouble guarding Aldrige in the perimeter.

I think the person who will have and need the biggest impact in tonight's game is Jlin. If he keeps out of foul trouble & has a good shooting night they will definitely win.

      Delete
    5. I'm going to guess the Rockets will win by 11 points because their 3-point shooting will not be as bad today and they will cut down errors.

      Delete
  3. By the way, the Rockets should not get Josh Smith. Great defender but awful decision maker. Way overrated in my opinion.

    Options:

    - Millsap
    -Jefferson
    - Aldridge (just hoping)
    - Kevin Love (I hope they suck and Love demands a trade to Houston; he may be a little overrated but his rebounding and 3pt shooting are tempting)

    1. What about getting the bird man Chris Andersen for defensive purposes. He would be a great shot blocker for them.

    2. It would have been nice if they still had Luis Scola.

      Delete
    3. Scola is not a good defender. They need young guns.

    4. Kevin love is not underrated. Very high IQ. We are all witnesses to how high IQ plus skills can translate into plain old ability to win and win. Love is the perfect and dangerous addition. I didn't like love in college, now love him. He got his strokes down, can shoot the threes, rebound, and pass. What more can you want? I hope they go aggressively for him.

      Delete
    5. correction Love is underrated.

      Delete
    6. I'm sure you meant K Love is not overrated as stated above by Neph.

I think Love is a good player statistically as a fantasy player. But, I don't think he helps teams win. He's like a stat padder, but doesn't make crucial game winning defensive blocks or rebounds. Yes, he has made game winning 3 pointers, but that's not the PF's responsibility, that's the SG responsibilty to hit that 3.

I like him, but I don't think he's what the Rockets need. They need a banger, like a young Elton Brand pre injury.

      Delete
    7. Kevin Love strikes me as a punk, but he'd still be my first choice by a mile.

Can you imagine a frontcourt with Asik and Love? HOLY MOLY. The Rockets would get offensive boards on half their misses and make the other team one-and-done almost every time! They could win games against good teams even if they shot 33%!

And Love's 3pt shooting would be perfect alongside Lin and Harden because he wouldn't have to clog the paint with his man. He could pop out and hit open 3s all day.

But more realistically, Jefferson or Millsap would both be great in their own ways. Jefferson is a dominant post player they could pound it into against the Heat and Thunder. Still, like I said, it might be better just to clear the paint for Harden/Lin. Which is why I would probably go with Millsap over Jefferson.

Millsap isn't as dominant but he's a more versatile, complimentary player. And he'd be cheaper, so you could go out and (re)sign good bench players.

      Delete
    8. He averages 26 and 13. With that stat he's the best PF in the league. Obviously, that is not the case. He's not a good defender and an ok post player.

Is he an elite pf? Yes

Overrated in the sense that he's not the best PF as people think. I can easily say that Aldridge is the BEST.

Indeen, he's a great addition. Probably the second option behind Lamarcus.

      Delete
    9. I have a completely different take from all of you.

This summer, I felt that the Rocket's greatest need was a defensive stopper who could guard all 5 positions and play a low usage game both above the rim and with shooting 3 pointers.

The guy I wanted was Lin's ex Knicks teammate Renaldo Balkman. I though Isiah Thomas was a genius for drafting that guy, and I have adored his game. He's like a modern day Dennis Rodman without the wedding dress.

Balkman can easily check the Kevin Durants and Lebron James type big scorers. Yet you can also line him up against the Tony Parkers and Andrew Bynums. Playing alongside Lin, Balkman had no trouble finishing inside when receiving Lin's passes. I also suspect that Balkman could shoot a solid 10 foot jumper if he was left unguarded.

I don't think the Rockets need another star scorer just for the sake of having a star scorer. I think they need a younger version of Shawn Marion. Who better than Balkman, a guy that has been repeatedly compared to Marion for his game impact?

Marion is known as "The Matrix". To me, Renaldo Balkman is "The Matrix Reloaded!"

      Delete
    10. @Khuang

Where is this guy Renaldo Balkman. I know you always talk about him and praise his game. Is he injured, playing d-league, or overseas?

      Delete
    11. No idea where he is. He was cut by the Knicks last year.

I would play Balkman for 10-15 minutes a game.

On offense, I'd have him be the new age Cedric Ceballos by letting him roam randomly on the side opposite the ball.

On defense, Balkman gets the big scorer regardless of position. For example, I'd guard the Parker Duncan Spurs pick and roll with Lin on Parker and Balkman on Duncan.

Balkman is to come in, harrass opponents defensively, dunk occasionally, and hit an occasional perimeter shot.

    3. I don't like David Lee's game.

He would get in Lin and Harden's way on the perimeter, has no interest in defense or rebounding, and is a selfish player. Lee is actually just a big slow guard who is listed at power forward solely because of his height.

      That's why Lee's teams just don't win.

      Delete
    4. David Lee is not the problem, it's the PG he is playing with.

Team with Lin, David Lee will be very good. David Lee is far from selfish.

If Houston can somehow get him, they will be a contender if not a Champion.

      Delete
    5. For the Knicks, Lee was an agile scorer around the basket with a reliable mid-range J, and a greedy rebounder. That's the pro of Lee. The con is that Lee was one of the worst and laziest defensive Fs in the NBA. Maybe the worst and laziest.

      Delete
  5. Yeah, I don't understand how Douglas can do so well in preseason, and be so ineffective in real games... Is he trying to tank on purpose so Lin and Harden will get worn out with heavy minutes, so that Douglas will get the start ? I hope not...

If he's going to be missing shots, playing bad defense, and turning the ball over silly style ... bench him and bring in Machado.

    1. T. Douglas is kind of lost on offense. It's just not his game to penetrate and dish. He's more of a streaky 3 point shooter. I'm not sure what happened to him, but I think he lost a lot of confidence playing for the NY Knicks and loosing his starting spot to Lin.

      Delete
    2. Thats the point. TD was struggling before Linsanity. He had shoulder surgery and what not. A lot of people think he should not play PG.

  6. Man o man. What a great pickup for Houston. Harden is making Daryl Morey looking like a genius, if he wasn't already with the pickup of Lin and Asik. This team is freaking dangerous. The things they do on the court looks so freakin' easy and it's only two games. My go to stats for them for the season are steals, assists, and free throw shooting. Against the hawks, not too many steals, not enough assists, but the free throw shooting was tremendous. I think they had twice as many attempts and makes as the hawks ( sorry too lazy to check the stats). Compliment those stats with rebounding of Asik and you've gotten a perfect storm brewing that's about to explode. Earlier, I thought adding Harden was enough for this season. But if Harden keeps this up ( we're talking all-star numbers), then if i was Morey, I would pursue Kevin Love stat. As far as Lin is concerned, I see the opportunity for him to pick and pop all day, just like what Harden is doing. Once Lin gets his shot going, watch out! By far the most dynamic backcourt in the nba today. Young, quick, and smart. Pick your poison.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Harden got a ton of FT because the Hawks kept fouling him (which means it's not really "free' as the name suggests, haha).

Lin's shooting has been basically back since the last preseason game. It's unfortunate, but JLin was shooting about 45-50% until his last few shots - which is why he took those shots. Had he passed those last few shots, it would have been less nerve wracking down the strestch and also he would have had more assists for the actual triple double. But Lin was not being selfish, because his shots WERE going in.

  7. I hope the Rockets play perfectly in this game. maybe they can convince Lamarcus Aldridge to join the team. They would become instant contenders for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Lamarcus is also a great choice. But i thought since this is such a heavy pnr team, that we should stick with that same mode of operation. Thinking, with Love, it would be like stockton and malone. If they can Lamarcus, it will be coup as well.

    1. just wondering. Is Love even a possibility? What are the chances the rockets can get him?

  9. "Star By Commitee"

I think that's going to be how it is for the Rockets outside Stockton and Malone (er, the HardLiners).

The Hardliners are going to consistently produce. No surprise there, given their individual history. Thus there are opportunities galore for a 3rd player to step it up. I think it could be any of the Rockets' frontcourters, depending on who is left UNGUARDED as teams try to pile up on the Hardliners.

I do like zxcbv's Earl Boykins recommendation. Boykins is the kind of solid underrated veteran that plays REALLY GREAT with high scoring guards. He's a guy that can immediately step in next to either Lin or Harden, thus allowing the Rockets to keep one of their All Star guards in the game at all times. Besides, the Rockets have the defensive frontcourt presence to cover for Boykins' PERCEIVED (not actual) lack of defense!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Earl Boykins ! Yes, Rockets should definitely get him back. He was on the Houston roster at the end of last year but I totally forgot about him.

He would be a tremendous addition to back Lin up. At 5'6", he is a defensive liability but he can score and setup teammates up.

      Delete
    2. Boykins defends and scores better than Nate Robinson, who's bigger than Boykins, yet somehow Robinson keeps finding NBA work while teams shy away from Boykins.

  10. I predicted victory for the Rockets over the Hawks last game, and I'll do it again with the Blazers.

The one guy to watch out for on the Blazers is Nicholas Batum. He's the best player on that team, not Aldridge. Batum is Lebron-Lite in that he flies around the court athletically. The Rockets have no answer for him, which is why I suggested getting a guy like Renaldo Balkman to guard Batum off the bench in short intense spurts of defense. For now, the Rockets just have to hope that Batum doesn't overwhelm them on both ends of the court.

Damien Lillard is the anti Lin: flashy, selfish, and hyped. Lin will have his way with him on both ends. Aldridge will have to work for his points against the solid Rockets frontcourt, plus he'll be hounded by Lin who's the best help defender in the NBA. Neither player worries me, no matter what stats they put up.

Rockets have a better chance of beating the Blazers than they did the Hawks.

      Question:
Why is Jeremy Lin so turnover-prone and how can he fix this?

He's had record-setting 30 turnovers in his first five career starts according to http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id....

What is it about his style of his play that produces so many turnovers?

Reply by Daryl Morey, GM Houston Rockets:

I would add a few points to the many good ones already made here:

-- many of Jeremy's turnovers are charges. These are the best turnovers to have as not only do charges mean that you are being aggressive as a player (when good things often happen) but also turnover charges are not "live ball" turnovers where teams get a higher expected value possession the other way. For example, in our opening Toronto game, Jeremy had no "bad pass" turnovers. They were all charges or off the dribble. Compare his lack of any bad pass turnovers to his 12 "high quality" passes in the game (passes he made that set up high percentage offense for others)
-- this leads into my next point that Jeremy's passes were the best in the league last year in the percentage that led to high quality offense. This is a fancy way of saying that when he makes a risky pass it is usually for a high reward so his bad pass turnovers, when he has them, are not as bad as for other guards as his avg possession efficiency remains higher
-- finally, most young guards who are going to be very good start as high turnover players in college and in their early seasons in the pros and get better throughout their career

    6. Typical KHuang, judging a post with no awareness of what was actually being addressed? ;)

Just kidding, of course. But since I'm not the brightest guy in the room, can you explain how interpersonal dynamics or petulant tanking stars are relevant to his answer?

The only problem I have with his answer is that he seems to think he was in Canada on opening night. Hmm, 250 miles away, maybe he was... but who could we possibly want from Toronto? Jose Calderon for Lin's back up? At least after Lin's Valentine's Day gift to Jose, there would be no question re: pecking order.

      Delete
    7. Morey is basically saying, Yeah, Jeremy tends to get in trouble when driving headlong into traffic and can be loose with his dribble, but we'll take that because there are worse ways to turn the ball over (like Harden's TOs against the Hawks) and when Jeremy's head is up and he's not rushed by pressure, he is a superior intuitive passer.

      Delete
    8. When I watched Lin play in both GS and his short NY minutes, I couldn't stand how his teammates just stood around and watched him get double and triple teamed for the steal.

It's not cool to leave teammates hanging when they're ganged up on by defenders. At the least, teammates should be moving to spots where they can catch passes and then attack for ther own scoring.

Because Daryl Morey is not a guy that understands the nuances of how Lin being Asian makes it hard for his NBA teammates to accept him, he saw Lin's turnovers as being strictly due to Lin as opposed to TANKING TEAMMATES. We here know better than Morey, of course.

Don't forget that Morey wrote that article for a financial paper trashing Jeremy Lin and comparing him to some no name guy named "Slater Martin" who was nowhere Lin's equal statistically in college. It's obvious that Daryl Morey had the same anti Lin bias that every GM had against Lin, which is why he cut Lin in favor of JONNY FLYNN!!!

Scottie Reynolds was an All American at Villanova. Actually, Scottie Reynolds was the only AP All American ever to go undrafted. That puts him on par with Jeremy Lin in being overlooked

Critics said that Scottie Reynolds looked slow. I counter that he could not have been a top 5 NCAA playet by being slow.

Reynolds came in for my Suns and played GREAT in summer league and training camp two or three seasons ago. The Suns cut him and he ended up in the D league.

No mattet what anybody says, Scottie Reynolds is a NBA player. He can hold the lead forte Hardliners and serve as a solid 3rd option all purpose point guard.

Scottie Reynolds is a WINNER. He's head and shoulders better than Machado, Livingston, and even Boykins.

    1. Stop worrying what people said about Lin especially from a bs sportswriter and don't be too overwhelmed by the praise of some white people. Stop linking those stuff, we don't need those people to justified who Lin is. You are one of those Asian who get overly exicted and happy when some white people said something nice about Asian. That's a sign of inferiority!

    2. Lol, it's just twitter chatter from public figures. *shrug* I put up everything JLin, good AND bad. I think it's all info, and it's good for fans to know what's being said about him [good and bad.] We should neither be elated nor deflated, but have an idea of what's out there. It's no good to be in a bubble. [It's also good to hear from NYers who are not completely brainwashed into hating him, it restores ones faith in humanity somewhat.]

    3. one person can restore your faith in humanity? while the reality is a complete opposite?? "It's also good to hear from NYers who are not completely brainwashed into hating him, it restores ones faith in humanity somewhat" this is why i said you got an inferiority complex like many Asians do because you fell the need of "NYers"(i assume non asians) to validate about Asian related thing. So many Asian seem to be so overzealous when white people or westerners accept them or praise them. What a shame that so many Asian are white worshipper, especially Asian girls! SMH!

    12. @Michael Terry what i said was 100% true, that so many Asian worship white people and culture too much. they needed acceptance and validation from white people to feel relevant. I wasn't saying anything racist towards white people. I just want to pointed out to my fellow Asian that such inferiority complex is a disease!

As for the Asian girls is true. So many Asian girls don't date Asian guys because they prefer white. Now tell me if that is not a self-hatred towards your own people and culture?? Asian girls dating or marrying white dude is not a problem as long as they don't hold the above stereotype i described above. You seems to be pretty offended and thus your response are supposedly to flame me up? Lol i'm not mad, not even one bit. That's just shows that you are a typical white dude who feel superior towards Asian dudes. Lol u just showed your true color.

    13. White dude will always be white dude. They get so offended easily even to things that are not directed to them, they feel the need to preserved their white supremacy with their hostile retaliation. All things bad throughout history are started by white people, colonialism are started by white people, genocide are started by white people, world war are started by white people, the list goes on. If things were the other way around, where the east are the dominant one. I always wondered what would their respond be? Are we Asian being too nice?

    14. 777am,

For those women, I chalk it up to individualistic pragmatic self-interest more than race traitorism. That said, a good chunk of popular stories (literature and movies) produced by Asian American women is disturbingly anti-Asian American man.

Many girls are pragmatic in a cost/benefit business sense when it comes to marriage. They understand it's an economic relationship, so they look for the best deal in terms of their (and expected children's) economic self interest. It's straight up evolutionary biology.

So when they choose from accessible potential spouses, they consider, who among the husband candidates possesses the best portfolio of relative power and resources? This may include the man's family and social network and their broader social standing stemming from their identity type.

The hiring process in those terms tends to place us at a disadvantage.

    17. My advice is you should delete the FB link to your wife just because I don't think it's wise to post personal info about your wife in this public blog. [I am saying this for protective reason, not for any other reason.] You never know weirdos who glean info from public forum and use it for whatever reason. Your word that your wife is half-Filipina is good enough for me.

"via"'s posts were neutral. He didn't mean anything by them. No need to overreact. I think in general we should keep race and religious discussions out of this basketball forum.

    18. eb5attorney,

"I think in general we should keep race and religious discussions out of this basketball forum."

I get what you're coming from in that we're all here to share and spread the glow of Jeremy Lin the NBA basketball player. A lot of us are serious basketball fans apart from Lin.

But a forum devoted to Lin is distinct in that his race, religion, life experiences, and distinctly millenial-generation Taiwanese American life story are significant parts of appreciating Lin that are unlike being a fan of other pro athletes.

Cut out the other stuff and we cut out a lot of the meat of a Lin fan forum.

      Delete
    19. I didn't mean that we should avoid acknowledging Lin's race or religion. Everyone knows these facts and their implications. However, we should not broaden discussions to focus on these issues. I also get what you are saying, don't get me wrong. I would hate to see this blog become a discussion forum of "Why we should all become Christians", etc. You know what I mean.

      Delete
    20. I do know. It's a judgement call.

If I was a mod here, I might use Lin's characteristics and the lines he sets in his public relations as a broad-stroke rough guide for the 'tangential' subject matter and amount of latitude I might allow them before corralling the discussion.

For example, I don't take part in the occasional Christian threads that pop up in comments here, but I also understand that by and large they're in line with Lin's own expressed beliefs. I wouldn't allow them to take over the forum, but I would tend to give them more latitude because they're in line with Lin's expressed public character than, say, a bitter communal outpouring of various racial grievances. Though that's not out of bounds either because Lin has touched on his racial experiences, too.

"Your word that your wife is half-Filipina is good enough for me." What are you trying to say man? You know when he said that he doesn't mean it to be like "oh my wife is half asian and i'm not a racist"

This is what he said "Coming from a white dude, you're an asswipe. :) My wife's half-filipina, too. You mad, bro?" Tell me what that meant lol. he's trying to fuel a fire bro. no one even care if he has an asian wife. it's just that his intention to flame are wrong and i didn't even said something racist toward white people, i was merely pointing out that many Asian have inferior complex. What i was saying to Via was she seems to be overzealous when a non-asian validates Lin.

    23. 777am, what I meant to say is that his statement that his wife is half-Filipina is good enough for me, and he doesn't need to post a FB link (I consider this dangerous), not what you are saying.

    24. Yeah, Eric, I know what you mean. I think we are on the same wavelength here. It's really a judgmental call. After all, we are here because we feel same or similarly for Lin for various reasons. I just think it's dumb to respond by saying "you are a racist, hater, or troll, etc." If I wanted that kind of discussion, I would have gone to Bleacher report or something.

      - It looks like you're the one with overly-strong feelings on this issue [problems with AFs] and you're projecting them on to me.

I posted a tweet exchange between semi-famous NYers talking about JLin after the Rox had 2 great wins. It's not about race at all. It's trivia. Can you provide me some guidelines then so I'd know what's ALLOWED for posters to post? o.O

[I think posters on here can tell that I post EVERYTHING JLin. EVERYTHING. Lol, I even posted a Lecrae vid where JLin appeared for ONE SECOND. There is no motive, it's all just info to me. How is info bad?]

"Stop worrying what people said about Lin especially from a bs sportswriter..."

      - I resent SAS, as do many on here. I want him to lose face, as do many on here. Skip the post if you don't like it, easy no? Again, what's the problem?

    26. via,

I thought your original comment with the tweets fit within the boundaries of this forum. While not as relevant, perhaps, as nitpicking the Harden/Lin dynamic or Omer Asik's inability to convert uncontested lay-ups, it's at least interesting.

  21. I am seriously stoked about the Lin/Harden tandem. Does anyone else remember this analysis which ranked Lin as one of the top point guards in generating close-range and 3-point shot assists? So far, all 15 of his assists have been either at the rim or 3-point shots. It's not surprising considering Harden is so reliant on and effective at shots near the rim and from 3-point range. Secondly, it's only been two games but Lin and Harden are already averaging close to 15 free throw attempts per 36 minutes. The reason I love bringing up this stat is because, as we've seen before with Lin (4th quarter against Philly last year), even if their shots aren't falling, they can keep their team in the game.

    1. Thanks, Aids Bike. I also see that Harden has the same tendency to find 3-pt shooters with cross-court passes and feed the bigs inside for easy dunks so I'll be curious how Lin and Harden will improve each other's stats in the most efficient assists (3PT and close-range) this year.

These HardLin tandem definitely carried the offensive load last night but hopefully the shooters (Parsons, Delfino and perhaps Patterson) find the confidence playing at home to lighten their workload. McHale should play TJones at home today. If they did, the Rox can win double-digits easily.

  22. My one 'What to watch for' for the Blazers game tonight:

The Blazers defense on Harden and specifically Batum's defense on Harden. Against the Pistons and Hawks, Harden carried an extraordinary scoring load, but he did so taking advantage of lesser defenders at his position. (Hawks team defense was better, though.) I expect Matthews will start off on Harden, but if Harden starts blowing up, Batum will switch over to Harden. Batum is the 1st defender faced by Harden and the Rockets who might be able to shut down Harden. Granted, the Rockets pick and roll offense means the Blazers can't rely on Batum alone to defend Harden. Batum will need help to succeed.

What does this have to do with Lin? If the Blazers contain Harden, that will shift the scoring burden to Lin against the rookie Lillard.

Lin hasn't returned yet to his Knicks scoring form, but he hasn't needed to resort to Linsanity with Harden steamrolling through defenses and taking on the body blows that Lin absorbed last season. Lin's been able to pick his spots and pace himself. But if Harden is contained tonight for the 1st time as a Rocket, then Lin will be on call to remind everyone why the Rockets signed him. Barring a surprise perimeter scoring punch from Delfino or Parsons, of course.

    1. Yep, he's had a solid 1st 2 games.

1-on-1 match-ups don't always deliver on their promise. I trust Lillard is going to try to make rep against Lin regardless. But Lin normally would do his job rather than fight for his ego (like John Wall tried last season in the Lin dunk game in DC), but if Harden is contained and other Rockets don't step up, then Lin will be forced to go mano-a-mano with Lillard in order to carry the Rockets.

  24. When Lin shoots jumpers in practice, he looks fine. Looks to me that his relatively poor shooting is due to his mental state, i.e., lack of confidence rather than any flaw in his technique or due to his knee surgery recovery process.

    3. I'll put it this way. If I had a pick in the 2010 NBA draft and I had to decide whether to draft Lin based soley on his performances in visiting games at Columbia, I wouldn't have drafted him either. And Columbia basketball sucks (or did), even by Ivy standards.

      Like I said, streaky.
