Rockets vs Raptors Game #14 Pregame Thread

Should be an interesting matchup with Kyle Lowry.

  1. Hoping that Jeremy builds on the success of the last game and continues his climb out of this shooting slump so he can put all those naysayers to rest.

  2. Just my observation... I do not think Jeremy is 100%. He may be 100% healthy, but, from his games, I don't think he trusts his knee. Even when he is have a good game I don't see him making hard cuts or stops. Last season Jeremy had some really "sick" cross-overs.
I think his defense is also affected.

    2. I suspect Lin is up and down physically with the knee progressively getting better.

He's not yet as explosive as he before the surgery, but he's looking better and better.

Any time now, Lin could have a breakout game.

  3. Another game to measure how far his recovery is coming along, how well he has learned the new skills for his added responsibilities, how well he has improved on his bad habits and weaknesses, and how close he is to earning the position as the alternate scorer on the team. Go Jeremy!

  4. during the ebb and flow of the season, players get hot and cold spells all the time. what matters is whether you make the playoffs and peak as a team going in. So i'd expect Shuhow to be constantly working on different aspects of his game during the season to fit better with coach mchale's strategy and the offensive talents of the rest of his team. The main reason he had such success with the knicks 2nd unit last Feb, was because he knew exactly where novak liked to shoot the ball, where jefferies would be lurking, where chandler would be ready to receive the lob. So i anticipate that they're all getting a much better feel for each other and are improving together as a team. i expect sampson will call for the ball to start off in shuhow's hands much more often in order to get him more involved in each play, but for the 1st/2nd options to still be harden/parsons which is exactly what should happen. I actually like the idea of having 2 shooting guards out there. Once shuhow shows more consistency with his stroke...the world is their oyster!

  5. I'm playing Jeremy on my fantasy team tonight. Lets go Jeremy!

  6. I just hope for more than 10 points from Lin. It seems double figure is hard to break for him these days. Sigh.

  7. screw the points...i wanna see those amazing assists! the full court passes WHOOOSH!, the no look daggers CHA-CHING! the bounce passes to a slashing patterson BOOM!

  8. if houston signed a monster leaper like a derozen or gerald green or shannon brown or someone with freak athletic leaping ability, shuhow's assists would blow up like nitro! maybe asik can work on his ups? what's up?

  9. With JLin on the court, even he does nothing, he has already done a lot... the defence of the opportunate is so much more difficult with him on the court... so much more unpredictable... so much more options.... as compare to TD... it make the defence confuse.... that is something cannot be counted by his personal statistics.... that is why to value him solely by stats is not accurate/fair....

    1. the only poison pills that i'm aware of in the knicks are melo, jr smith, and FELTDOWN! (whoever coined that name should win a pulitzer hahahaa).

  11. why is it that folks continue to question shuhow's defensive capabilities when he's among the leaders in steals per game? what the f ever...shuhow is all about doing what he can to help the team win, not about personal stats or proving he's worth his contract.

  12. With missing practice to fully recover, and rehab on his knee in the past few days off. I see Jeremy building off of his two recent games and having a great performance tonight. Given that he gets the ball enough times and attacks aggressively.

  13. i hope he doesn't get a flashback and accidentally passes the ball to landry tonight. lol

    1. That'd be funny because Landry will be sitting at the end of the bench dressed in a suit.

  14. Had to re-post this because of copy error:

Off topic, but I need to get this off my chest even though it's old news. This is pointed to all the pro-Knicks forces here (ahem @Eric and @Neph). Knicks just got beaten by the Nets, and it's just a precursor to how exposed they will be in the playoffs this year ( I predict 2nd round loss to the Nets in 7). Again, Melo scores 35+ points and the Knicks lose...sound familiar.

Again, I repeat, Woodson is an above average 3rd tier coach who specializes in defense. His offensive schemes are mediocre and involve throwing the ball to Melo on the low block whenever he can. Lin would never ever be able to reach his potential with the Knicks.

Also, @Neph...I am just so confused at why you think the Knicks didn't match Lin because of money. Here's a nice article for your reference: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/762760-new-york-knicks-6-most-regrettable-contracts-in-franchise-history/page/7 . Here's another thing that Landry Fields said: In an interview with MSG’s Alan Hahn during a Knicks summer league game, the dearly departed Landry Fields, of all people, delivered the Dolan dagger. “Poison pill?” Fields said of his buddy’s Year 3 salary. “This is a Tic Tac for James Dolan.” This was all personal on Dolan's end...the money is nothing for him. They could have offered him 4 years/ 24 million and it would have been a done deal. Knicks are one of the worst run franchises in the NBA due to nepotism and politics. I love NYC..I hate the Knicks.

    1. Yes, Felton played really shitty against Nets. However, for most games this season, Felton's shooting has been pretty good. If Lin had just a few games where his shooting was sub-par, I would not be concerned at all; and I would definitely think this is just an ebb and flow during regular season of any player. But Lin's shooting has been consistently sub-par from the preseason. In addition, Lin does not seem to be able to jack up over 15 shots like Felton seems able to do consistently. If you watched the Knicks-Nets game, Felton did not take "bad" shots; they were very makable shots often from close range. But he just missed them. But Lin often seems to be hesitant or afraid to take even over 10 shots per game. Whether Lin gets enough touches to get off more than 10 shots per game, or he purposely does not want to shoot many shots when his shooting is bad, I am not sure. This is why some people are concerned. Either Rockets are trying to improve this aspect of Lin's game, or Rockets think that it's better to let Harden handle the ball and let him decide. Or Rockets are totally misusing Lin. I am not sure which is the case. Having said this, good players should find a way to adjust, but I have no idea again how long it will take.

  15. I am wondering Machado being called up from D League may mean even less playing time for Lin. Is this a valid concern?

    1. I don't think there's anything to worry about.

Scott Machado and Donatas Motiejeunas played very well in the D league. That league proved to be too easy for those guys, just as it was for Jeremy Lin.

There might even be Machado Lin pairings, which would be a good way of getting the ball to Lin for him to shoot more.

    2. Both T Douglas and T Jones are sick from flu. They may or may not play. The call up should be "insurance", but K Sampson may just find an excuse to play Machado.

I just can't stand K Sampson as a coach. When you see lots of players get to play through their mistakes and slumps, i.e. Klay Thompson & S. Curry of warriors, or A Rivers of Hornets, Sampson gives Jeremy "no confidence" vote by sitting Jeremy in key moments.

I remember Keith Smart did the same with S. Curry too and really screwed with the kid's head.

I don't see Sampson worrying about lazy picks, no rebounding efforts from 3 or 4 positions, lack of blocking out, etc.

Again, I hope Jeremy will play with confidence and play hard on both ends, and not worry about Sampson's inconsistency.

      Godspeed Jeremy!

    3. Yes I much prefer McHale for Jeremy as in my opinion coach sampson is sub par for the NBA and has his own agendas . Let's hope he does not do any more damage by applying double standards with his benching decisions.

  16. Also, if Felton and Lin had "similar" stats for one game, I would rather have Lin on my team. I am not saying this because I like Lin more, but because I really do believe Lin does contribute more in "intangible" areas which do not show up in stats, such as the high quality of passes, controlling tempo and rhythm of the game and getting even non-star players involved and as a result making them play with more energy.

    1. Lin also gives a lot of "hockey assists" that he doesn't get credit for, but eventually it'll show up in better =/- . When Lin plays for a more mature team - or if the young team can catch or dunk (tall guys or centers) better, his stats will show better.

    1. Eric likes to talk about Knicks a lot but some of his points make sense though and he has other fair contribution about jlin I ll said. But Eric why can u stop talking about the Knicks?!haha...

  18. We don't have to compare Felton to Lin. Nyk is over with Lin. Lin is over with Knicks. Talking about coach, I also prefer Mchale over Sampson! But Mchale seems will not be back for a short period! Go Jeremy!

  19. After throwing us a half-eaten bone last game against the Knicks, expect more abuse from Jeremy as he will run to the corner every play, get turnovers, and intentionally miss shots to destroy all the believers in the Christian Linsanity story.
