  1. You can see Lin actually has some more controlled effective plays today and seems to really like Asik, whom I think will score at least 14ppg with Lin feeding him the ball. Keep in mind Lin was playing with 2 vets today (Kmart/Delfino) so the floor was much better spaced and there was actual efficiency to their plays.

I wonder if Lin, Parsons and Asik get paired with 2 rookies/2nd yr guys to start or if they use an all vet starting line up with Kmart and Delfino. It would be neat to see a youthful full out bench attack with the 5 rookies (or TD instead of Machado) but it could also lead to disaster from inexperience. At the same time, it'd be pretty nice to bring guys like TD, KMART, Delfino or at least 2 of them off the bench to control and lead the 2nd group bench attack so there is minimal drop off.

This team if coached right will be a Texas version of Denver/Philadephia.

This team is going to be a 6th - 8th seed. I'll stand by that now at the end of the season.

    1. I agree with you, Swing. I'm encouraged by the latest footage albeit short so hoping there are extended versions to follow. Looks like they finally got out of the YMCA gym :)

    2. How dare a hater like you compare the play of professional basketball players to that of a YMCA gym?

Such deliberate flaming of Lin is an utter INSULT to Lin and the sport of basketball.

You hate Lin, and you especially hate his fans. And now his fans hate YOU.

    4. Btw, KHuang, YOU recently joined this year in January 2012 which makes you a bandwagon fan . Sorry to burst your bubble. This also proves I was here well before you. I did change my user name last year in protest to Obama's evils but I was here when this site first started and will continue to be here. Stop being so paranoid and thinking the whole world's after you. I feel bad for you. You need enemies in your life and this is a sign of deep paranoia. Maybe you shouldn't have stopped taking your meds.

    5. Better to be a bandwagon fan than a FULL TIME HATER.

Since when was any basketball fan not a bandwagon fan? It's not as if you were born knowing who Jeremy Lin was. You think you're better than me because you've been following (HATING) Jeremy Lin longer than me, but you're NOT.

Once again, you make inappropriate judgments about people. That earns you foes like me who dislike being accused of falsehoods. I'll beat your butt with the TRUTH.

We're not talking about basketball fans btw but JLin fans which this site is for. I never said I'm better than you bro but I'm a real fan and loyal follower since he was in Harvard. You obviously jumped on board a bit late and haven't bothered to read my posts over the years. Again, the TRUTH is as you've admitted is that you are a bandwagon fan and a total hypocrite. Your favorite player isn't even JLin and your here preaching high and mighty. What a bunch of bull. Obviously you can't handle the truth when it's staring you in the face. Not only do you need counseling but a new pair of glasses, lol.

    8. Kid, I've been watching the NBA longer than you've been ALIVE.

That's exactly why you hate me. You seek to make people think I'm a first time basketball observer. How hateful of you.

I'm constantly learning about basketball players, and I'm a fan of the entire NBA. Indeed, I am a true bandwagon fan. I have great respect and admiration for the greatness of the NBA, and I also relate to other NBA fans include the newbies that you hate on.

I'm not bandwagon when it comes to fighting you, though. I won't stop.

Tyson Chandler says Knicks now have point guards who know how to run an offense, said Lin was too inexperienced.

    http://www.newsday.com/sports/basketball/knicks/tyson-chandler-likes-knicks-additions-at-point-guard-1.4080467

Tyson Chandler said Jeremy Lin brought a great "light" to the Knicks last season but that he wasn't ready to run an offense, and added that the team's immediate future is brighter with the point guards they have now.

Chandler said the Knicks didn't have a point guard to get himself, Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire the ball in their comfort zones last season. In Raymond Felton and Jason Kidd, the Knicks have experienced floor leaders who already have made a difference through the first four days of training camp.

"The intensity is way up and also there's also calmness when we're coming downcourt, with the point guards getting things under control and making sure we get good shots every possession," Chandler said Friday.

"I think the toughest thing last year was our best players were at the 3, 4 and 5 spots with nobody really to get them the ball in the right places . . . This year, with the additions that we got at [point guard], Melo can play his natural role and be a finisher and Amar'e can do the same thing."

"Baron was hurt and Jeremy was a young point guard who was just learning, trying to learn and figure out an offense," Chandler said. "It was nothing against them and it was definitely nothing against Baron.

"Baron was hurt the whole year and giving us everything he had. Jeremy was a young point guard who was inexperienced, who brought a great light to the organization. But as far as being able to run the offense and putting players in the right position he just wasn't there. We got some veteran point guards that are capable of doing that."

    1. Very disappointed by Chandler's comments regarding JLin. He lifted up everyone around him and the team played better which was as everyone knows spoiled by Melo's selfishness. Man, what a complete sell out. Kidd and Felton are better at point? Seriously? JLIn was the reason Knicks got to the playoffs last season. Only shined a light? How about the win streak, attendance, Jersey sales, TV ratings, etc.? I wonder what CAA and Melo did to him? He was so supportive of JLin last season which makes this disappointing indeed. Of course JLin was inexperienced but showed much promise and is definitely a better choice at the 1 than the geriatric drunk and fatty felton.

      Delete
    2. Really can't wait for the Houston/Knicks game so Lin can prove how wrong Chandler and co. is and make them eat crow. I noticed upon reading the interview how Chandler has changed his tune and now labels Lin as inexperienced and never mentions once that he was great. Not one compliment. Lin ran the offense fine last season from my point of view so I have no clue why he is now putting a negative spin after being one of his biggest supporters. The only player that probably didn't get the ball in the comfort zone was Melo. Everyone else's stats went up with Lin on the floor. What a shame for Chandler to brown nose CAA and Melo.

      Delete
    3. well, you know what changed? lin. he's now on the rockets and really, what do you expect tyson to say when at least half of the fans are still getting over losing lin and questioning whether felton and kidd will make up for losing lin. tyson is not about to antagonize his teammates and most of all, the owner that writes his checks.

i give tyson props for being a smart man. he knew what to say to 1) not totally discredit lin's contribution to the team last year (and really, what he said wasn't wrong - lin was inexperienced. that was his first year starting in the nba and running an offense.. well two offenses) by saying he was a great light to the team, implying that it was a dark team before insanity, and 2) prop up his new teammates.

and everything he said about felton and kidd were things that the organization have said as to why they were brought in so of course tyson is going to say the same things. it'd be dumb for him to question the decisions of the organization and alienate his teammates.

anyway, i don't see a reason to fault what tyson said. i don't think jeremy would fault him either and might even agree that his pretty inexperienced when it comes to running a nba offense.

    4. Here's another take on the same tyson conversation:

Jeremy Lin seemed to have the magic touch last season except when it came to making Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire a winning combination.
And Tyson Chandler feels that the additions of point guards Raymond Felton and Jason Kidd will do wonders for the Knicks’ two superstars.
“Absolutely, I absolutely think it will work,” the Knicks center said on Friday at practice in Greenburgh. “The toughest thing last year was that our best players were at the three, four and five spots with nobody to get them the ball in the right places.
“Melo went to playing the point and making a lot of the decisions. Although he’s capable, I feel like it was putting too much on him. This year with the point guards we’ve got he can play his natural position and be a finisher. And Amar’e can do the same.”
Chandler stressed that he wasn’t knocking Lin or backup point guard Baron Davis, who was injured for much of last season. Lin was in his second year and was more of a scoring point guard. Lin was more compatible with Stoudemire because the two could run pick-and-rolls. Lin wasn’t as effective with Anthony, who prefers to hold the ball on the perimeter and create his own shots.
“Jeremy was a young point guard who was just learning,” Chandler said. “He was trying to figure out how to run an offense. He brought a lot to this organization but as far as being able to run the offense and put players in the right positions he wasn’t there yet. We have veteran point guards now who are capable of doing that.”

don't really see anything wrong with what he said...

    17. The Knicks organization *SELECTED* Tyson Chandler for the PR speech precisely because he was the most respected (in my view) veteran player from the last season's roster, by the media, the fans, and teammates - including Jeremy Lin. Therefore, they think the BS spewing out of Tyson Chandler's mouth will carry more credibility. I'm surprised that such a political statement by Tyson was originally published by Dolan's own publication, Newsday.

The Knicks often set up those type of interviews with other publications that they have symbiotic relationship with, such as NY Post, ESPN , and NYMag.com, and then the Knicks just quote those sources. They didn't even try to hide who the real source of the blurbs is this time. The reason for that, I speculate, is there were just TOO MANY carefully scripted paragraphs for Tyson to remember exactly as written by the Knicks management; the poster, jackbean, has shared with us a total of 4 paragraphs attributed to Tyson. And I'm not interested in visiting the Newsday link to find out if the Newsday attributed any more statements to Tyson that he agreed to.

      Delete
    18. Tyson said what he had to say because Lin is now the enemy. Is it factual? Maybe to some extent but don't think that's the whole truth. After NYK lost to Miami, Chandler said the team needs to play team ball and not rely on just one person which makes you wonder if that was a dig at Carmelo. I think he's just a politician who says what's appropriate for the situation.

      Delete
    19. I agree that Tyson said them or agreed to say them, but I'm guessing that he had help by the Knicks' front office, as well as Woodson, in constructing those *lengthy* and nuanced remarks about Lin and the team. Tyson had taken a jab before against the teammates who didn't "buy in" (Carmelo and JR whose children's godfather is Melo - came across just yesterday), but they came *after* the season was over, and were rather brief, mild, and implied.

Dolan has both direct and indirect spin vehicles available at his disposal. And, as the new season is about to begin, the Knicks are reminding everybody that the decision not to match had nothing to do with personality, jealousy and ego clashes, but that it was the result of keen basketball minds on their staff first and foremost, and also due to their new-found fiscal responsibility. However, they have stated in the past - as well as just the other day - that it simply had to do with finance and cap space.

Most people agree that the Knicks made the sound decision under the circumstances (plural). And the tickets are said to be all sold out. And, as a major market with "the biggest stage", the precious few top 20 elite superstars will continue to be attracted to them. But they are still defensive. Maybe because the media wants to milk the story more, but soon - hopefully - they will be too busy covering games.

      Delete
    20. Moving on is a good thing but reversing your stories is another. Tyson Chandle, I tought you are a better man than the rest; I guess we overestimated your integrity off the court too. But most of all NY press shld stop asking the KNICKS abt JLIN; they can't praise him but at least they don't comment at all of any question abt JLINbecause it seems all they did was to wipe away the every exixtance of JLIN from KNICKS history.

      Delete
    21. for me ^^v tyson chandler statement about jlin only raises expectations for their team & adds more pressure to their pgs, he better hope that nyk will win a lot of games/make it to play offs because if they dont he will definitely regret saying all this...

    13. @KHuang
      @ztrta

That Obama666 troll seems to have a serious mental problem. Behaves like a lunatic but talks like a wannabe shrink, thinking of itself as "the man" and claiming to be one of the first here (when nobody even remembers it), says everybody else is a bandwagoner when it bashes Lin on a Lin fansite, claims to have won a discussion on the other site when it got burned and spanked when it tottaly misbehaved, claims that people are gay (must hate gay people) when people share an opinion, so much wishfull thinking. It craves attention! It lives in a distorted reality.

NOBODY CAN EVEN REMEMBER IT HERE - nobody believes it ever had a girlfriend or a life but it claims otherwise. Just see how much time it has spent here for the last days. Where was it before? Guess it was hating on someone else somewhere else until it wasnt fun for it anymore. Or it was simply posting using one of its other screennames...

With at least 3 people on this thread alone claiming its a flamer it simply shakes it off claiming everybody else is evil. Muahahaha... definitely not sane.

And its hatred of the president or asian or black or gay people? Its definitely a racist and extremist. It worships the devil. The tripple six and its affinity for "K" proves it. Just google "Obama 666" and you will see. It talks about the end of the world and stuff like that. It bashed JLin and now its rooting for JLin. It simply wants people to connect JLin and "Obama666" Its a nutjob. Just google it.

Guys - dont waste your time arguing with it. That thing only wants attention - no matter how. Its gonna act like a troll, its gonna act like a sane Lin fan, its gonna flame, its gonna bash JLin, its gonna cry and whine like a baby, its gonna follow JLin fans to all forums and places (like on knicks.com), its gonna do whatever it takes to annoy the JLin fanbase and make JLin look bad.

As someone who works in the medical field I feel compassion for it but I suggest you ignore it or refer to it in the third person. We are only here to talk about JLin. Dont feed it. It will bite. It will take our comments, if we talk directly to it, as a substitute for the talks with friends it doesnt have. Theres no other way to deal with such nutjob stalkers...

Remember - ignore it. Its the best for this site. If you have to - talk about it but dont talk to it.

As for admin -> please google "Obama 666" and you will see what I mean.

Now you turn on him just to please the new guys in town? Let's see how you do in terms of points per game this season. You might regret what you are saying now at the end. I thought you were an honest guy and one of the better teammates of Jeremy last season. I was happy when I got your autograph at court side during Linsanity. But I'm really disappointed in you now.

    1. Tyson Chandler is just being pragmatic and loyal to his team. What choice does he have?

Chandler and Lin did play well together. But - you have to keep in mind that the big stars in NY are Amare and Melo. If Amare and Melo dont shine -> problem. You can bring the best PG in business - if he doesnt make Amare and Melo shine its considered PG fail. As a team who has made its choices (Amare and Melo) they simply have to see it that way. Its not personal...

      Delete
  10. Once again, don't get too high or too low about training camp or preseason. But do remember, Lin will shine when it counts.

I wouldn't blame Tyson for saying that. He has to have his teammates backs. We really can't expect him to say he'd rather have Lin as Knicks PG even if he wanted that.

    2. With all due respect, you're missing the point about Tyson. Yes, he can have his teammates backs but also give Jlin his proper respect and dues for saving him and the Knicks organization last season. We're not expecting him to say he would rather have Lin as the Knicks PG but he could at least acknowledge Lin's contributions in a more positive light and not change his tune so drastically which makes him sound like a complete sell out.

      Delete
    3. @JLi: I disagree. There is line between having your teammates backs and making comments that grossly mis-state the facts. Tyson Chandler could have remained positive and sung praises about how experienced Jason Kid is and whatever strengths Feldon has. To go as far as he has in bashing Lin's ability to distribute the ball is really unnecessary and flat out dishonest if you ask me. I expected better from him.

      Delete
    4. I guess he could've responded differently.

I doubt Lin cares if his former team/teammates praise him or bash him. He'll play at a high level and probably give it to the Knicks and then some when the Rockets play them.

      Delete
  11. Tyson Chandler's comments are intended to pump up Felton's confidence at Lin's expense. It's a REAL cheap shot, and they're not even in the same division; heck, they're not even in the same conference! That sort of cheap shots are used for psychological gamefare - but Knicks and Rockets will meet for all of 3 games. So Felton must need the ego boost.

And it also sounds like Tyson's script was carefully written by the Knicks' management to double it as a PR.

    1. Which is why I'm so disappointed in Tyson. He was my 2nd favorite player on the knicks after Lin. They both had such good chemistry as well. Is it so difficult to at least say Lin had a "great' run as opposed to emphasizing his "inexperience?"

You also have NO RESPECT for any of the members here who have signed up for this forum this year. Because your goal is to intimidate and scare away newbie Lin fans, you try to flame them off this board by erroneously declaring this forum hostile to newcomers. I'm gonna stand in your way on that one too.

Newcomers to this board, welcome. Don't listen to Obama666 who says that "bandwagon fans that just got on this year" are not welcome. 18. Thanks, Admin, for stopping the 2. I enjoyed the postings from both of them (except for their arguments, which I had to skip, sorry, KH & OB).

I hope we can all stop saying "I am here first" "you are bandwagoner" types of words. We are just fans, there is no point in claiming seniority here. Does it matter who came first, who came later?

My passion of watching bball died when John Stockton retired (he was my favorite player), now it came alive all because I enjoyed the joy and the excitement Lin brought to the court (I'm sure there are tens of thousands of bbl long lost viewers are like that). So Lin is the only player I follow. Ppl on Knicksnow.com called ppl like me "bandwagoner", and ppl on Clutchfan called me an LOF, they called ppl like me: stupid, uneducated, etc.. But who cares? This is a free country, whichever players/teams I like to follow is none of anyone's business. Besides, teams change all the time: management changes (e.g. GM/VP come and go), their players changes (they are traded/waived, etc.), even the cities they are in changes (e.g. Nets moved from NJ to NY). It makes more sense to follow players than teams. Don't you think?

So here is what I want to say: I PROUDLY ANNOUNCE I AM LIN'S BANDWAGONER, and again it's none of anyone's business, so no need to ridicule/criticize me.

Also, I never said what defines a true fan but if you must know, of course it is not entirely predicated upon how early or how often someone started following him. - No I have not taken your words out of context.

      - So to be clear: Are you saying that ALL people who came to like JLin after he got into the NBA [or after Harvard] are only fans because of his celebrity? NOT ONE of them truly appreciates the game or his skill in it?

"I respect everyone's opinions but I reserve the right to defend myself and I will of course return fire if you come at me."
      - If you CAN respect everyone's opinions, SHOW IT. [I don't think calling someone who's trying to reason with you a moron is the way. Just sayin']

I think his left hand dribble looks great. There are videos of him dribbling two balls at the same time. You dont really see a difference when he does that.

Anyway - people have a preference. You can tell from ultrasonic images if a baby is going to be left or right handed. JLin did work on his left side dribbling (and drive) but he will always favor one side. So do all other people...

  14. Here's the harsh reality of NBA training camp:

Looking good in camp doesn't necessarily translate over to GAMES.

Only once games begin do NBA teams know what they can and cannot do.

I am not reading much into this training camp, good or bad.

As far as Tyson Chandler goes, it's unfortunate that he had to criticize Lin despite the personal improvement in Chandler's stats Lin brought him and the general improvement Lin brought to the team. I don't see Chandler complaining about Toney Douglas or Mike Bibby or Iman Shumpert, all of whom ran the point more poorly than Lin did.

Whatever. The NBA game is played on the court, not in the media.

    1. As usual you nailed it, K-Huang.

Camp is largely meaningless (at least for returning players). Even preseason means little - Rondo & the Celtics lost to Bo McCalebb & Fenerbahce yesterday!

As for Tyson, I know he's trying to be a good company man (so I won't hate on him), but I wish he simply said: "Jeremy was great for us, but we got two vets who are great too." It's funny/sad because Jeremy just complimented Tyson big time the other day (on what a great and nuanced defender he is).

    2. What's also despicable is that the NY tabloids are still saying that Lin went back to Houston to ask for more money after the Knicks said that they'd match the first contract offer.

Jeremy Lin and the Rockets have already publicly stated that he did not go back asking for more money. Yet the tabloids still try to lie about that.

In my years of watching the NBA, I've never seen a more harmless and good spirited player take more abuse than Jeremy Lin. Obviously people feel they can lie about him with impunity because he's Asian. This is the kind of racism that is routinely done in the American media against Asian Americans.

    3. Camp is relevant otherwise what's the point of holding camp. Obviously, there are players who do better in actual games than in training camp but that would be more of an exception rather than the rule. The rule of thumb is if you show something in camp, you've shown you have some ability to show something in the real games. If you can't show anything in camp, you're likely to not all of a sudden find your A game in actual games.

    5. @KHuang,

Regarding the Knicks accusing Lin of asking the Rockets for more money and that Lin was motivated by greed:

Of course those accusations by the Knicks are lies. But what if Lin's agents did ask them for more money? Isn't it their job? What the Rockets clarified later was that Lin's agents didn't decline them offering more money - to their surprise, said the GM Morey (since they knew it would make it harder for the Knicks to match). Now, this was a very nice gesture on the Rockets' part to ask first, because they were trying to see if Lin would indeed not mind leaving the Knicks. Keep in mind that, at this juncture, both Lin and his agents were apparently on to the Knicks scheme and their deceptive strategy.

Excerpt from: Anatomy of a deal: How the Rockets landed Jeremy Lin. July 22, 2012
      http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterockets/2012/07/anatomy-of-a-deal-how-the-rockets-landed-jeremy-lin/

“We talked about it internally for a while,” Morey said. “We brought it up to his agents, asking if they would be OK with more money, and shockingly, they were open to it.”

Lin was NOT motivated by greed. It was the Knicks who were MOTIVATED by GREED, since they wanted Nash or Felton and wanted Lin only as a marginal player-marketing and for trade purpose, which was their right since Lin was restricted. However, they frequently lied to Lin (about being the starter), to the other teams (about matching any offer), and to the public (about both). Lin was not motivated by the $5.6 million more; it was only for one of the years. Plus, the Knicks frequently reminded Lin that he'd make FAR MORE MONEY by giving them a steep discount and instead rely on MORE endorsements that were sure to come his way ONLY *IF* he stayed in New York.

      http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/basketball/nba/07/18/jeremy-lin-exclusive/index.html July 18, 2012

"Honestly, I preferred New York," *** Lin said. "But my main goal in free agency was to go to a team that had plans for me and wanted me. I wanted to have fun playing basketball.... Now I'm definitely relieved."

*** He later explained in a Rockets press conference that this comment was in context of him "not expecting to be anywhere besides NY", since he was a restricted free agent and since they warned other teams that they'll match.

    6. I actually have no trouble with Lin's agents sking for more money pr NYK feeling what they felt.

What I have a major league problem is with professional journalists deliberately lying in the ppwea when there had been mountains of proof otherwise.

It is totally inappropriate for the NY tabloids to be publishing lies about people. It's actuallly SLANDER.

    8. @HKuang,

I was asking the rhetorical question to the Knicks/media (not you.... sorry if you misunderstood). Even if Lin's agents asked for more money (which Morey said they didn't), that's was actually their fiduciary right (some would even say duty).

I was just pointing out to the Knicks that they are liars, that Lin's motive was not greed, but rather was to have the opportunity to play for the team that actually wanted him for his skills and upside (and he said "I wanted to have fun playing basketball" - like he used to prior to Carmelo returning), rather than for the team who didn't treat him well and then tried to screw him over during the free agency - and via deception method and lies..... On the other hand, it was the Knicks themselves who were MOTIVATED BY GREED. Thank God for Jeremy that their plan backfired.

    10. See, I see it slightly differently.

My problem with the Knicks is that they're NOT motivated by greed!

In professional sports, typically a franchise is trying to make as much money for itself on and off the court. From every financial angle, signing Jeremy Lin would have been the right thing to do.

But because James Dolan is a super rich heir to an immense business created mainly by his father, he is completely unmotivated by greed. He doesn't feel any urge whatsoever to make the Knicks earn more money, as he already has so much money from his empire. No, what motivates James Dolan is the need to feel that he is THE MAN.

What James Dolan didn't like about Lin was that the "popular" people around him didn't want Lin around. Then when Lin tried to negotiate, Dolan was incensed that Lin had the temerity to even ask for a contract instead of simply taking the $1 million 1 year contract NY was offering.

Glen Grunwald, Mike Woodson, and the Knicks brass are not stupid. They fully recognized Lin's on and off court value. Grunwald even begged Dolan to sign Lin when the Rockets made their 2nd offer, dangling the carrot that Lin could be traded for assets. Dolan said NO.

The problem with the Knicks historically is that Janes Dolan is an impatient and celebrity struck owner who is so starstruck by overhyped marquee names that he kicks out the young upcoming talent his basketball men get for him in favor of old washed up talent that he mistakenly thinks will provide him failsafe NBA production.

The simple reason Dolan's plan doesn't work is this: Nba players have EXPIRATION DATES. If Dolan were shopping at the meat section at WalMart, he'd be buying all the "managers specials" of meat that are due to expire in a day, but instead of paying the low prices Dolan pays the high prices one would pay for a fresher piece of meat. And then when Dolan lets the meat rot in his refrigerator and gets sick from eating it, he then goes back to Walmart and keeps paying premium prices for more expiring meat!

    11. KHuang,

I was focusing more on what Lin (not Dolan) was or wasn't motivated by, because the accusations by Dolan/Knicks are lies and propaganda.

      >> In professional sports, typically a franchise is trying to make as much money for itself on and off the court.

I agree. That is why I said in another post that it was their right to try to keep Lin, regardless of their motives (since he was restricted). BUT no other team with restricted agents conducted so evilly and with continuous lies.

      >> But because James Dolan is a super rich heir he is completely unmotivated by greed. No, what motivates James Dolan is the need to feel that he is THE MAN.

Dolan wanting to be *THE MAN* was a big PART of the reason why they didn't match (it was was reported in the media - pretty much straight up - so I assumed people knew), but this power and control struggle heightened LATER in the game (Dolan first became angry because Lin hired another agent without telling them, LOL, and because Lin wasn't stupid by re-signing for practically FREE - which you have mentioned elsewhere).

However, I believe Dolan/Knicks were motivated by ANOTHER TYPE of GREED (which they accused Lin of) when the Knicks TRIED TO RE-SIGN Lin by LYING and *only* for ulterior motives, BECAUSE Dolan/Knicks MAINLY wanted Lin either for "stashing him away" (by marginalizing Lin until the three stars are gone in 3 years, thus ruin his basketball career) OR (more likely due to their impatience) trade him to get another marquee player..... Plus, filthy rich people DO want more money; that's how they got so rich. But thank God that Dolan's need for control and big ego WON OUT his desire for more money (but they probably realized that marginalizing Lin wouldn't give them much money) - Otherwise, Lin would be toiling as a Knick for at least another year !!!

      >> What James Dolan didn't like about Lin was that the "popular" people around him didn't want Lin around.

That was one of the major reasons why they were boggled with such a quandary; the other being the Knicks are always impatient (as you noted) and was always in "win now" mode; and now, Dolan feels more pressure than ever, as he tries to prove that acquiring Carmelo for a half of the team was a smart move. Big markets are typically in "win now" mode every year, but it's getting harder to do, as the league is cracking down more on big teams' ability to buy elite players - which will kick into a high gear in 2 years. Teams are now being forced to develop young talents more (not just high draft picks), which is a great thing.

  17. http://www.thedreamshake.com/2012/10/5/3463094/parsons-lin-and-the-big-empty-chair

The Dream Shake's Abel Prado reports from Rockets training camp in the Rio Grande Valley

It's more than four hours until the players are supposed to appear but the line to meet them already stretches around the block. It's painfully obvious that not everyone will get their crap signed and pictures taken but right now everyone is hopeful. When it comes to the Rockets everyone is ALWAYS hopeful.

There's a cute chick in obscenely short shorts, blonde streaks in her hair and a custom low cut shirt that reads "Linderella." It's a pun so crafty I get mad that I didn't come up with it. She skipped all her classes to show up, she says thinks she had a test today but that doesn't matter. He's gonna be here. He's really gonna be here. It'll be worth it!

Then an extremely tall fella with perfect stubble and ocean-deep colored eyes is escorted towards the table, next to him is an awkward little Asian dude. At that moment the 1,500 plus people that had been waiting for something like four or five hours erupt into a frenzy for Chandler Parsons and Jeremy Lin.

These two have been the talk of the town in the Rio Grande Valley through the first five days of camp and its easy to see why. Lin is "Lin" these days, and he's carried himself on that that streak of insane play for the last eight months but pretty soon he'll have to answer his fans and himself whether or not Linsanity is lightning in a bottle or the dawn of a superstar.

But superstar isn’t a word that comes to mind when you look at Lin. At Rockets camp I was talking with some sort of Media Liaison Suit trying to work out when the team would be available. The Suit tells me what a nice guy Lin is but he's still so uncomfortable talking with the press. He's got no charisma. We look over to the court and there's the kid, sitting off to the side fiddling with his shoe laces like some nervous freshman. The Suit may have a point.

When Yao Ming walks into a room he's "Yao Ming" when Kobe walks into a room he strides along every bit the five time NBA champion that he is. Lin looks like the boy you'd coerce into doing your homework.

If Lin is the kid in high school that gets excited over his new graphing calculator, then Parsons is definitely the cool jock that slept with your girlfriend even though he's already banging some slutty college freshman chick with a tongue ring.

There's a reason its Parsons's visage that graces the billboards of Houston freeways. There's a reason we're looking to Parsons to anchor this young roster even though he's a new guy himself. The guy is a natural leader.

Everyone in line had waited for hours to meet the face of Linsanity but it was Parsons that was working the crowd, making people laugh, offering funny faces and accommodating strange autograph requests. Parsons makes you want to follow him. He makes you feel as if all is fine just because he's around. And he's just so handsome.

We all know that this is a young roster. And we've had no real "soul" since Battier and Yao were the leaders of this team. The lack of an established veteran creates a void. An empty seat at the head of the table. In the early going of this season Parsons has seemly pulled up the chair, demanded a cask of the finest ale and asked what was for dinner.

    3. To be fair, a big part of it is that he graduated from HARVARD (people keep forgetting what a big part that is to his appeal). As had been stated repeatedly, Harvard doesn't give scholarships, so Jeremy had to meet academic requirements that players from other quality academic institutions didn't have to meet.

But yeah, it's a non-malicious but insidiously casual racism at work their. A guy being quiet and shy makes him a math nerd who does your homework? If he was black, would they call him a "quiet thug who lets his gun do the talking"? Doubt it.

    9. Hahahah... LOL.... I read it before. Abel Prado is such a joke as a "writer". He is very unprofessional with the frivolous and shallow piece, focusing on players' outwards physical appearance, as perceived by him only (Lin is not "small"; he's 6'3", a good size for a PG), and colored by his racism. Also, he acts like he has a major crush on Parsons, lol (which, as a sports "writer" for an audience, is so immature and silly). Hiring a writer like that is a bad reflection on the DreamShake. I've never read his articles before. I assume he's a paid writer for them? Yikes!

    10. I actually ENJOYED reading that particular piece!

I don't hold nonprofessional media bloggers to the same strict codes of professional conduct that I hold the salaried media. So when they write man adoring Asian despising pieces like these, I giggle and read some more.

Sometimes, I enjoy reading creepy articles like this. Though I don't have man crushes because I'm so straight that even modern women don't like me much, it's like watching my favorite high school movie of all time "Better Off Dead" starring John Cusack as a mildly oppressed guy who loses his girlfriend only to end up with a much hotter chick in the end!

  19. CONTINUED:

I suspect that before long, whether Lin is for real or not, it'll be Parsons ahead of the fray. Talking about demeanor and charisma may be played out. It is, after all, just basketball. But demeanor and charisma are everything in basketball. No other team sport relies so much on a singular part to make the entire machine work. Isn't that what the chase for Dwight was all about?

However, the more I learn about this roster the more I'm convinced that we're set. You can call me insane, but I think we have the guys to change the script this season. The Kool Aid I'm drinking comes in three different flavors, by the way: Delusion, Grandiosity and Dementia. And if you're reading this blog and feel about the Rockets the same way I do, you may as well have a sip because we're gonna be here a while.

    1. I have to admit - Parsons is pretty much "everybodys darling". That is great when it comes to media/press related stuff. But during games you still need a talented workhorse -> we will have to wait and see who that no.1 workhorse will turn out to be. As a JLin fan I would say -> JLin. In peoples mind - JLin is still an underdog. Sad but true...

    2. Tim Duncan is one of the greatest players in NBA history. And he's not "charismatic," loud, or sound-bite worthy. He's maturity and humility to the point of "boredom"...just like Jeremy Lin. Derek Jeter is another "boring" leader and great player. Players like that lead by example.

Don't get me wrong, it's great to have all kinds of guys -- quiet leaders, vocal leaders, jokers, enforcers, etc. But there's nothing wrong with being "boring" off the court.

That said, once you get one the court, Jeremy is electric. Did you see him against the Nets, Lakers, Mavs and Raptors? Smiling, shouting, fist-pumping, hip-bumping, cocky nod-ya-head gestures after 3s.

  21. LOL @ everyone taking Tyson's comments so seriously. Some of you had it right. It's all PR and marketing to hype up the Knicks team. Some of you don't understand that making media statements are part of their "job" and they are "working". They get paid the big $$$ for a reason and its not only on the basketball court. It's not all about Jeremy as most Jeremy fans believe. Everyone is out for themselves and trying to save face and their jobs. How horrible would Tyson have looked if he had answered, "I think Knicks management made a huge mistake by signing Felton and Kidd. I wish the Knicks traded me to the ROckets so I can get out of this horrible situation. Now please leave me alone so I can cry in my locker."

I would have loved it - but youre absolutely right. Tyson is just pragmatic and loyal to his team. He has no other choice. If he was asked if JLin was a great bbal player he would still say yes. But - with Amare and Melo being the stars of the team he cant blame them - he has to blame the PG who is no longer on the team. If it was Nash instead of JLin he would still say the same...

    3. Knicks management uses an irrational flawed thinking: Jeremy Lin put up big numbers in D'Antoni system... Therefore JLin = D'Antoni system and cannot produce in a different system.
So by that logic ... If Felton was also a product of D'Antoni system ... Wouldn't Felton also FAIL under Woodson's system??

  22. Nemo, of course some of us here know that it's all PR and he has to tow the company line and that he's not going to say management made a mistake. Point is he could have given Lin some credit other than emphasizing Lin's inexperience without crossing the line. I just find it ironic that Felton gave Lin more props than Tyson during MSG media day.

  23. Veeeeeery disappointed in Tyson, no matter what reason he made those statements.

I thought he is the only decent guy left in NYK.

He forgot who made him a "scoring threat". He forgot what he said back on 2/11/12: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-wojnarowski_jeremy_lin_knicks_lakers_021112, where it said "Chandler...Four games with Lin, and he knows what they have with him. “He just has a pace and a confidence,” Chandler said. “He just keeps coming. I haven’t seen anything like this. He’s taken us all by surprise … us, the league.” “He’s not a fluke.”

I guess everyone in NYK got orders from above to all pretend Linsanity never happened. So even a DOY can not but comply. What a shame!!!

    1. someone please help me out here. In Jesse's article, did he really say Lin gave his second cousin a kidney? Or he just meant Lin tried to do so, but since it wasn't a good match, so it was not done.

Do you guys know whether Lin lost a kidney to help someone he never even met?

It would have been a BIG story, the media would have said something, but this is the first time I heard about it.

    3. yeah the whole thing seems so surreal. but great read none the less. would be a great movie "The Jeremy Lin Show" lol i'd pay to watch it. but if it was true, then what i got from it was that Jeremy went under the knife during his rookie year in GS but then was determined not a match.

    4. Its fan fiction, but cleverly written to reflect some real life events.

"A few years later, I was in a high school production of Guys and Dolls when Todd Roystein, the kid playing Nicely Nicely Johnson, came down with mono. It was twenty minutes before curtain and we thought we’d have to cancel the show.

We were all shocked when young Jeremy Lin, who at that point had only built our sets and run lights and sound said, “The show must go on.” Jeremy hemmed Todd’s pants, memorized the lines and jumped right into “Runyonland.” We all thought Todd had really nailed the role in rehearsal, but Jeremy was able to find a sadness that Todd never unearthed; Jeremy’s Nicely was a brute, yes, but he was also a struggling addict and Jeremy found a way into both.

The critics said it was unbelievable. I just said it was just Jeremy."

I can't but think the author's use of the name "Todd" was referring to Toney Douglas who was the star of the point guard role.

      Delete
    5. Haha, read again, "...at that point who had only built our sets and run lights and sound said..." probably refers to Jeremy Lin playing trash minutes before the NJ game.

And "Runyonland" seems to be run your own show or the Jeremy Lin Show.

If I'm correct in my interpretation, it seems like we have quite the knowledgeable and clever writer in this actor.

      Or I'm just reaching.... lol

    6. On another level, the fictitious events, although making oblique references to real life events, in a very real way captures how in the hearts of many NYK fans JLin was a hero in his on-court impact and off-court object of endearment.

      Delete
    7. About the kidney replacement for Dina, there is some sort of struggle on the part of Dina for something vitally important, and Jeremy sacrificing himself trying to rescue Dina from struggle.

My interpretation is that Dina is D'Antoni. His need for kidney is his coaching job. Jeremy's sacrifice is playing high minutes every game, risking major injury (which as we know and the author probably knows materialised in the form of a minor meniscus tear requiring knee surgery). Very clever story writing indeed, because in the fan fiction, the sacrifice was to stop playing while in real life, the sacrifice was to continue playing at a grueling level and being ridden like a "freakn' Secretariat."

Dina had to find a different kidney. D'Antoni had to find another job. Jeremy was not a good match after all. I guess this is referring to the losing streak which cost D'Antoni the job.

      Love this clever little piece.

    9. Trying to interpret the first part of the story where the author is bullied for wearing all green. He is teased and called three names associated with the color green. Can I suggest a guess as to which three Green Bean[stalk], Kermit the Frog and Snot Body refer to?

Could it being twelve meant for the year 2012, green symbolizing money as money is typically associated the green color, and wearing all green simply means spending loads of money on big contracts. The boy being taunted, and having rocks and insults hurled at, I can only guess is the NYK with their 8-15 record before Jeremy stepped in. Jeremy four years younger and skipping ahead of class may be reference to his four years spent in college and thus younger in NBA years. And picking on someone your own size is simply irony, since NYK is quite a huge franchise.

Ok... maybe I'm way over interpreting. But if this is the intention (to reflect Jeremy Lin's Linsanity story and the spirit behind it), you've really got to read each word carefully and have a good think about it to get a greater appreciation of what a great read it may be intended to be.

  28. "That's a Wrap"

"...Speaking of Jeremy Lin, the Rockets’ starting point guard seemed to get stronger throughout the week; no real surprise given the fact that he’s still feeling his way back from offseason knee surgery. Lin came into camp in great condition, but being in prime basketball shape is something altogether different and Lin seemed to be rounding into that sort of form as the week rolled along. As advertised, his crafty pick-and-roll game, sneaky quickness and clever angles have generated paint points and free throws galore for both himself and his teammates, and when left open from the perimeter he consistently knocked those shots down. ..."
