Rockets @ Pistons Game #1 Thread

Game time 4:30PST

Here we go!!!

  1. "The Rockets signed Jeremy Lin because they want to market to the Asian market"

"The Rockets signed James Harden because of his beard"

Seems like people only think these two guys are hype. Let's see if this duo can prove people wrong.

This Rocket team(Lin-Harden-Parsons-Asik-Petterson) looks a lot better than the Linsanity squad (Lin-Shumpert-Fields-Novak-Chandler) which won 7 in a row.

I think if anyone is a betting man tonight, the Rockets are a great pick at 2.5 point underdogs.

    Let's go.

    1. Marcus Morris will start in place of Patterson who has quad issues.

Yes, this is an important game for Lin and Harden to set the tone for the season. Here we go!

    2. But let's temper our expectations low since Harden just joined a few days ago and JLin is not quite 100%.

I'm looking for both of them to assess the situation in the first half and make a big run in the 3rd quarter by setting up their bigs and shooters first.

I'm hoping for +8 stat for each of them.

    3. I believe the Rockets offense will come around sooner and look better than we might expect due to the high basketball IQs and versatile floor games of Lin, Harden, Delfino, and Parsons, playing in an intuitive, flowing perimeter-oriented offense.

Key word: intuitive. If the Rockets depend more on principles than design, and rely on their players' collective 'feel' on the court more than intricately drawn timing plays, they can jump the learning curve. Of course, weaknesses like team defense and raw bigs will be revealed by good opponents, too, but the Rockets can come to play with their own strengths.

      Delete
  2. Lin looking good so far. I'm cautious for Jeremy because hes playing at a really high gear from the start. I think he needs to take it down a gear to preserve his energy and health.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Good start by Lin, 4pts, 2 stls, 1 ast
    Harden, 5 pts, 2 asts

They just figured out noone can stop them to the basket and they can always find their 3-point shooters.

    ReplyDelete
  4. jittery hands to start, both teams

    but Rox looks great!

    ReplyDelete
  5. just adrenaline kicking in, but looking good so far. both HO guards seem to be getting into the lane easily.

    ReplyDelete
  6. couple of early thoughts:

harden is unselfish and is a gamer

lin is more choosy, and has been very effective in choosing when he wants to attack. great start

    ReplyDelete
  7. It is immediately apparent that the Lin/Hardin combo is going to be tough to guard

    ReplyDelete

    1. Both of them are playing like they are jet-fueled...

      Delete
    2. a beauuutiful bounce pass to harden by lin - dunk! early 3rd qtr - leading nicely again.

so far rox bench not as good as the pissed team.

      Delete
  8. Lin and Harden are resting.
Can Toney Douglas create the offense? Not looking good

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Delfino is a better PG than Douglas.

      Delete
    2. Harden came back and score easily but Douglas can't stop Bynum

      Delete
    3. Rox cautious after the foul-call happy official against Delfino

      Delete
  9. I can tell Harden is not used to the Rockets offensive scheme since hes so new, but they are allowing him to freestyle it. Jeremy is looking like the straight A student who came to take a test prepared and he's doing everything right.

    ReplyDelete
  10. near the end of first Delfino called offensive foul. rigged already? ridic

Rox making simple rookie mistakes (out of bounds) but still leading. like what i saw.

    go Rockets!

    ReplyDelete
  11. How are you guys watching the game live?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Thanks for the updates. I am so grateful that i found this REAL JLin's site. KUDOS to Admin as well as the JLIN's fans.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Jeremy contained Bynum on defense and got 2 quick assists. Now someone needs to stop Singler's hot hands. Not sure who is guarding him. Parsons?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Lin is racking up the assists- some great passes to set up Asik

    ReplyDelete
  15. Parsons with an impressive low bounce-pass to Morris! Another steal by Lin.

Lin tried to involve Harden but resulted in TO. Hope he just let it come naturally and not force it.

    ReplyDelete

    1. agree! maybe lin hopes to build up the chemistry with Harden fast!

      Delete
  16. Lin still doesn't have the legs to elevate. Gotta be the knee

    ReplyDelete
  17. Lin is just in his typical self. He's a difference maker on both ends of the floor. Too bad he can't guard 5 people at one time. Haha.

    ReplyDelete
  18. ugh. Rox missing lot easy layups.... nervous 1st game. still s/win the game

    ReplyDelete
  19. should have taken the 3, doubled harden next play too (to end half)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Lin is being too unselfish: "I don't want the ball, here ya go Harden."
"I won't let you guard Greg Monroe by yourself, I think I'm gonna help out, Oh No, my guy cut to the basket for an easy layup."

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. i agree, looks ok but uneasy with shot and too unselfish, having trouble with picks too

      Delete
    2. Agreed. That was what I was thinking. I liked how they played during the pre season.

      Delete
    3. That's what i hate from him the most, he tried to gamble so many times in defend to help his teammates and he ended up being roasted. that's why people called him a bad defender. seriously doesn't he learned from past experience? i wish he stop doing that, let his teammates defend one on one.

      Delete
  21. Houston's defense relaxed a bit and let Pistons to make 10-3 run. They need to square up the defense so they can run in transition.

No worries, they'll figure it out in the 3rd quarter. Lin and Harden need to start penetrating again.

    ReplyDelete
  22. is it me or does it seem like the moves better before harden ?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's clear that the agenda for the Rockets tonight is to showcase Harden because they announced the 80 million dollar contract. Great observation and you are totally correct.

      Delete
    2. Not surprising. These Rockets players are unselfish. When suddenly a "superstar" is added, people are gonna defer to him and not move as smoothly. Harden is good and can post huge numbers but offense usually runs better through Lin. It's similar when Carmelo came back from injury last year in NY. Harden is less selfish than Carmelo but this "superstar ball" doesn't work long term.

      Delete
    3. Haha. Gonna make that 80 million investment look good so let him run every play. Less urgent to make 25 million man look good, you know. Especially if that 25 million man is just a marketing tool by the owner, not a GM and coach signing.

      Delete
    4. Cara, just remember this is all an entertainment and business. Just have fun with this event, there will be plenty to go around this season. all 82 games and possibly playoffs :)

      Delete
    5. kinda agree! but since that deal is already made, I hope for the best and not worry about the rest!

      Delete
  23. We can all tell that JLin is not confident with his shot. He kept passing up open shots. Maybe the knee is not 100% but if the knee is weak then how come he does everything else excessively well. Hmmmm!

    ReplyDelete

  24. Harden is as advertised.

I feel like the Rockets were too confident (ballsy for rooks and sophs heh?) and maybe that's why they were missing all those softly-contested layups.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Preseason form is holding in that he is passing good but not shooting confidently. Whether he misses or makes them, he should be more decisive. I gotta say that without Harden, I don't think Rockets would have a decent chance to win against Detroit. Of course, even with Harden, Rockets might lose here.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Omg , when i said that he made 2 jumpers and both look smooth. Go JLin

    ReplyDelete
  27. and followed with a great pass. wow, that was pretty

    ReplyDelete
  28. Been a while since I posted... regardless of win or lose, Rocket's are going to be an exciting team. Harden and Lin make an incredible team. Immediate chemistry!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Harden is WAY better than Martin...Martin can only shoot, Harden can do that and everything else AND has a physical NBA body.

Lin needs to just relax (which he will very soon) and by Feb, this duo will be darn good.

Lin just make some ugly ballhog play in the corner after Parson passed to him. If that was Martin, I would have thrown up. LIn should have moved the ball. He's not 100% yet to do that stuff

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I second that. I think people forgot abut how bad Martin looked in terms of all-around ability besides his shooting stroke.

      Delete
  30. I also think Machado will replace Douglas as a backup PG quicker than we might have expected.

    ReplyDelete
  31. detroit looking alot tougher than the rockets right now....i think there is too much focus on lin and harden...the other are not getting any looks.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Refs are favoring Brandon Knight way more than Jeremy Lin. Knight runs into Lin, blocking foul. Lin runs into Knight, blocking foul.

They give Lin 2 pts for each 3-point shot.

Now Lin is out with 4 fouls ... looks like the Rockets might lose this one :(

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Buddy, relax. Rockets only down a few and it's still in the 3rd quarter. In my opinion, the two plays you're referring to were called correctly. Lin is having a decent game although his ability to protect the ball will come into question once again this season.

      Delete
    2. Jeremy has to got to be more careful, though. He has to learn when to be "lazy."

Just let Knight have his layup. Just pull up and settle for the jumper -- don't risk getting another foul when they need you so much.

      Delete
  33. The team is not playing good defense. They looked so much better during the pre season. I know the games are different but they added more pressure and hustled more They need to do that now.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It's funny how Jeremy always looks like he's a horrible shooter and people and even sometimes himself doesn't have faith in his shot, yet his shooting percentage is always up there. So far hes 5/10 tonight. That's 50%, which is really good LOL. I think he needs to look more confident in it and stop caring when people make a big deal about missing shots.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Lol this Rockets team is not very good besides Harden and Lin. Or according to people outside of here, they are just Harden and a bunch of role players. Even Lin's a role player.

    ReplyDelete
  36. no wonder the Pis are leading.

officiating heavily favoring the Pis - calling charges against Pis, Rox foul.

    many Rox might foul out

    ReplyDelete
  37. why is terrace jones not on court? I remember he did pretty good in preseason. Harden score 25 pts but it seems didn't help much! don't want to see the rocket lose! hope they bouncing back at 4th quarter!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Who would you expect to score if Harden wasn't playing tonight?

      Delete
    2. I don't know who to expect but I remember there are couple players who score pretty good in the preseason. i was thinking maybe the coach want to put on other players to mix it up a little bit!

      Delete
    3. Without Harden, they would be down by 20 right now. I agree with Jaynu. It is true that Rockets seem to play the best when Harden and Lin are both on the court. If Lin comes in and plays smart, this will be a close game and will be decided in last few minutes. Either that or 20 points blowout win for Pistons.

      Delete
  38. Defense is really suffering without Jeremy. And the offense is reduced to Harden.

Jeremy needs to come back in and just BE CAREFUL. Which he can. He was being "fearless" and committed two dumb fouls (one of which resulted in a TO).

    ReplyDelete
  39. The fix is in. Too many people betting on the Rockets in Vegas. You heard it here first...

    Nemo

    ReplyDelete
  40. Lol didn't people say Asik is a great defensive player? Didn't they say Asik alone make a good defensive team? Here they are, giving up like 70 points to a lottery team like Pistons mid way through 3 quarters. See, preseason can be very misleading.

    ReplyDelete
  41. It's 4th quarter now. WILL IT BE LINSANITY TIME?!?!??!?!

    ReplyDelete
  42. damn harden shoots alot

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. yes...yes...Jaynu as me the question up there who to expect to score and I can't answer his questions besides hoping someone other than Harden and lin can help this team! In preseason, the rockets seems with many players who can score double digits and now...it seems not the case or what?! but I am not worry this is just their first game. i still optimistic about the ROckets!

      Delete
  43. Remember, Lin is like Eli Manning - even when he just okay for 3Qs, the 4Q is HIS time.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Told you Toney Douglas stunk. Rockets need a backup PG and fast ...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm a native NY'er who moved to Texas. I can agree with this that we all hated Douglas in NY and it will take much for me to change my mind in Texas.

      Delete
  45. Er... Parsons looking sloppy today.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Chandler Parsons is an idiot bringing up the ball all the way up court like he's a point guard. Instant turnover.

    ReplyDelete
  47. quote anouncer: "alot of the explosion (piston) happened after Lin sat down"

    ReplyDelete
  48. Rox 3 pts not good today. their bench not good. Rox not playing confident ever since the ref giving it to the Pis. Rox must win this for revenge.

    ReplyDelete
  49. when lin is on the court u can tell there is more energy

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The whole team is getting sloppy when Lin is not out there. You can tell immediately when Lin is back out there. Harden working hard though. Lins gotta be carefull now - hes a great 4th quarter finisher but with 4 fouls...

Its crazy though - they double Lin before he gets the ball...

  51. down by 5 pts now!! Go get it rockets! you can do it!!! there's this new term coming out about lin and Harden call "Har-lin" I guess I will use it here then! Go Harlin!

    ReplyDelete
  52. lin should drive more

    ReplyDelete
  53. Wait, both of Lin's treys were 2s? I thought it was only the 2nd one where he had his foot on the line. Hmm. I guess they went to replay so I can't complain.

The Rockets getting back in the game now that Jeremy's back in...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I was thinking the same... first one I thought was 3!

      Delete
  54. Del for 3! Delfino didn't play as much as he should because of BS fouls on him. Jlin 4 fouls by mid 3rd. Ridic.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Lin is a difference maker at both ends of the floor. Whether people want to admit it or not. No disrespect to Harden who is a good player capable of putting up big numbers, but he's like a Kevin Love who put up huge numbers but can't carry a team by himself. Lin's more of a Ricky Rubio whose value clearly shows up in the W/L. Just the casual observers wouldn't appreciate Lin's presence, ability to make people better, and defense like they did with Rubio. And Lin's a better individual player than Rubio too. He's capable of putting numbers if given the opportunity, which Rubio can't.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Lin and Harden are going to be a great combo!

      Delete
    2. its too early to tell if harden cant carry a team. And come on who can carry a team all by himself? even lebron needs d-wade and bosh to win a championship. Why do u think lakers signed nash and dwight? To cheer for Kobe?? If its just rubio on the twolves without K-love they will still be a lottery team. The bench sucks. And they need another scorer. A legit third option.

      Delete
    3. Cara, Harden has 34 points, 10 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and a blocked shot and has played 38 of the 42 minutes because of Lin's foul trouble (on bad calls but still). It is obvious that the Rockets need both Lin and Harden to win games.

      Delete
    4. Agree - also Harden is new on the team. He needs to get the routines. Harden is not just unselfish like Lin but hes also a workhorse like Lin. Rockets need both and they are going to be awesome together!

      Delete
  56. Lin needs to start looking for his shot ...

    ReplyDelete
  57. Gosh, I hate Del Fino's shot.... but thankfully it's going on.

Nice fast break and follow through. 13-2 run.

    ReplyDelete
  58. the bastard ref and Pis serves right. Delf another 3 then Lin steal .... game now tied!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Jeremy just got HAMMERED...

...no call. Smith got a bucket on the put back luckily.

    ReplyDelete
  60. woho....tie now at 85 !!!!! keep up the beat they will win this game!!!

      Delete
    3. Its ok. You have to earn your boos. JLin has earned his :)

      Delete
    4. that's an advantage of having home court game! usual! not a big deal! lin can live up to that! though I do remember he said he dosn't like it on the stern show when he was still with the knicks!

  65. lin is bring it now...right to the basket...

    ReplyDelete
  66. Seriously, the moment JLin entered the game , The Rox 's a different team. From good D down to good ball movement and open looks. Man, I love this guy's impact on the game.

    ReplyDelete

  68. delfino is just like novak damn

    ReplyDelete
  69. Ohh! Delfino making his contribution! Nice!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Morey looking smart picking up Delfino. 2 3-PTs!

    ReplyDelete
  71. 3 minutes left. Let's see how the Rockets close this one out. Overall, a bit too sloppy for me at times. However, the team's ability to rally back is a good sign.

I agree with many of you guys. The Rockets, however little attention they're given now, will be very fun to watch. I still think Morey's moves aren't over and that we'll see a couple more additions before the deadline.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Man, Jlin still doesn't have the legs to finish.
They need to pull away now.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Pistons trailing by eight! Rockets gotta run clock now and play serious d

    ReplyDelete
  77. I hope they can hang on to that 3 minutes. they need to win this game to have a good start. though even if they lose it's not a big deal way more games to come, but still...really hope they can get it...!!

    ReplyDelete
  78. 103-94! Harden got inside and fouled.
    This is 80% over now

    ReplyDelete
  79. Wow. 6 assists by Parsons. Good passing team. EXCEPT FOR DOUGLAS!!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Rockets' drafting Harden looking good. Batman and Robin, and Harden is definitely Batman in this game. Look at the number of assists by Harden.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Was he really? Detroit dominated when Lin was out. When Lin came back, the Rockets dominated. Lin is Batman. But there is nothing wrong with being Robin, and Harden makes for a great Robin.

    2. @Unknown:

Agree 100% dude! Harden scored, made good decisions on his own and made a lot of great passes but Lin is still the man who was shining on both ends.

He had trouble scoring but still -> he was the batman tonight. You can tell the Pistons exploded and Rockets fell appart as soon as Lin was out. Harden worked hard but couldnt control the Pistons.

Of course - that might change as soon as Harden gets used to his teammates but I dont think so. JLin is playing with so much brains on both ends and hes running so hard... thats hard to top! But of course - he runs so hard you cant expect him to shoot well..

    ReplyDelete
  86. Harden is a workhorse and showed he is worth the max contract.

Same with Jeremy. He showed he can be the next Jason Kidd/Steve Nash hybrid, but he still neds to perfect his finishes when driving in the lane as well as his jumper.

    1. Nah. His knee just needs to get better. AND HE ALSO NEEDS TO GET MORE CALLS!

    2. Agree! Rockets now have two great unselfish workhorses. JLin still with trouble scoring but hes getting there. When hes 100% Lin and Harden are going to be the talk of the NBA!

A lot of JLin fans are afraid that Harden might steal the show but I dont think so. JLin himself repeatedly sad (as the anouncer said before the game started) that he concentrates on being PG. He wants less attention...

    3. Yeah, there were so many no-calls... I know it's not his home turf, but this is supposed to be basketball, get hit on the hand, foul!

    3. 12 and 8... I suppose he'll get slightly better than that.. Overall, however, if Lin can keep up with those numbers and level of play, he's fulfilling his job. The Rockets can use a better bench, especially a new backup PG asap!

      Delete
    4. great to hear that from the anouncer! haters need to hear that! especially those who keep saying lin sucks!

    5. Agree he played solid and gave a stability. With Douglas, Rockets seem like chickens running around without their heads.

One of the anouncer said a couple of these things tonight. The other guy... baehhh :)

      Delete
    7. you know i don't mind Harden or anybody steal the stats or praising them good, but I hate it while they praising these players and they just wouldn't mind to also gave lin some credits he deserve, that's the worst of the part I don't like to see! and i do think it's really sad to see that happen for lin! I just hope more of the fans like many of us here can see the truly worthy lin we see here!

  88. Detroit's announcers tell the truth, "When Jeremy Lin sat down, they were in trouble. When he came back, he solidified them"

    JLin +23
    JHarden +18

Toney Douglas -14. Need to call Machado's number as backup PG.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Totally. The Detroit commentators know what's up. I wonder if the Rockets guys do.

Harden was AMAZING, though even with his monster night, the Rockets still needed Jeremy back to stop the bleeding on defense and win the game.

And give major props to Delfino, too! He had a Novak-like hot streak of 3s that wiped out the deficit.

      Delete
    2. Yeah - Delfino was cool enough to make the shots when his team needed him the most. Props for that!

      Delete
    3. Can you educate a basketball ignoramus like me? How is that stat calculated? It seemed to me that Harden's number is better than Jeremy's in almost everything and yet the +/- number is lower than Jeremy's?
BTW, Thanks to all the commentators at this website. I can only follow the game in webcast so I have no idea how the game is flowing.

      Delete
    4. The drop off when Lin sits and Douglas comes in is huge.

    5. Machado isn't ready. He might be in a couple of years. The Rockets need to do another trade or scour the waiver wire.

    6. Lin's a lot of contribution actually doesn't show up in stats sheet. Rockets fans and casual observers won't recognize it though. Let Harden get all the credit. He deserves it and Lin won't care to be honest. People forget Lin could even play with Carmelo, he could play with anyone.

And Lin isn't even 100% yet.

No need to call yourself an ignoramus. +/- is simply the aggregate differential in points while a particular player is on the floor. In tonight's case, the primary reason for Harden's lower number is Toney Douglas, who completely sucked (+/- of -14). Jlin's +/- stat is insulated from TD's poor play because, of course, he gets to sit when TD is on the floor.

  89. Well, I was wrong. Lin is better off with a scorer (who passes!) like Harden than an iso chucker like Melo.

    1. Harden can shine and takes a lot of pressure off JLin. Seems to work just fine.

    2. i was hoping take the pressure off didn't mean steal the whole show though.

  90. Lin played well and contributed to the win. Harden sure made Morey look good today. Delfino came through also. A good start.

  91. JLin is about winning. He's just know how to win games when he play. Leave all the Stats to Harden.

    1. Lin's stats will be fine when he doesn't get in foul trouble (thanks for nothing refs!) and his knee gets better. Also, there is nothing wrong with a shooting guard who shoots. It's the shooting guards who can't shoot that is the problem. And not many shooting guards can get 12 assists while doing all that shooting, and for a team he just joined a few hours prior.

  92. Anyone still regret the Harden for Lamb trade? Don't get me wrong, Lin is the best player, but without Harden's all around game and experience, the Rockets lose. No way Lamb plays 40+ minutes tonight. As a matter of fact, Lamb doesn't even start ... Martin does. Lamb will be able to play like this in 2-3 years, but it is better to have Harden now!

    1. Sorry unknown, I'm a big Lin fan but right now truth is he is NOT the best player, Hardin is.... and there is no shame in that. JLIn played great tonight and he's not even 100%. Lin/Hardin will be a lethal backcourt

    4. Are you that much of a Lin fanboy? Harden right now is better than Lin, just accept it. I'm a big Lin supporter but let's be rational here.

However, Knicks > Rockets because the Rockets are REALLY hurting for depth.

    2. ;) tua culpa, tua culpa, tua maxima culpa :)

Of course Rockets dont have the depth but eventually it will come as time passes by. Anyway - very encouraging victory for the Rockets tonight. They gotta be celebrating right now :)

  96. AMAZING debut by the Beardsanity duo!...stat of the night J-Lin an astounding plu/minus +23!...

  97. Black racists are having a field day on Twitter...again! They're orgasming that Lin played second fiddle to Harden tonight. They've already proclaimed this is Harden's team. It didn't matter to them that Lin had a +23. They're saying he's way over paid and overrated . They're laughing at his 4 TO's. I can only imagine what they'll say when he has a bad game! Some of them were really disappointed that Lin didn't have a bad game.

  98. When the Rockets was down, I knew Jeremy has to get back in to setup the offense. Although his stats doesnt justify how important he was in this win.
