    1. Hello, a member from China! Good Saturday late afternoon to you.

Yes, you can go crazy for Linsanity 2.0 version over there. However, we in the USA, the home of NBA, shouldn't go too crazy, because last year it caused Lin to be a deliberate target of opponents' body slams, elbows, and head-hunting - with impunity from the referees and the NBA! They allow almost anything, especially if superstars or future Hall of Fame players do it.

  2. Jeremy already is guaranteed $7 million this season, so who cares if he plays well or not. ;-)

    1. Don't say that (;-/). Some people might think you're serious! (;~D)

      BTW, it's $8.37 million.

Just think - it's a scary thought: Even though it would have been a miserable work place for Jeremy Lin, I truly believe that Lin would have accepted a modest and fair offer from the Knicks, if it offered *prior* to the free agency period - Which, thank God they never offered. Phew!

    2. So what? Unless he's giving any of that money to me, I don't give a damn about that.

    3. Lin's marketing endorsements depend on keeping up his high level of play. Volvo and Nike are banking on it. Companies won't sign deals with just an average player, even if he is the only Asian in the league ... he must still produce on the court to be marketable.

    5. what?! He should play harder to prove his worth!

Seriously everybody is expecting him to have a good season

      Delete
    6. No one is talking about endorsement money before ABC.

But as a young team with a lot of talents, Lin isn't watching out for his own stat line. He just wants to play well and help out his team in getting wins, as well as being a good co-leader. In the process, he'll do fine for himself. It's a sound attitude for a PG to have. But he should show his versatility when needed.

p.s - my NEW computer is so touch sensitive and it often deletes before I'm done typing..... wishing for an edit feature.

    8. First year of a 3 year contract so no need to go all out. He should just break out linsanity for the espn and nbatv games. seems like he makes more money salary wise than through endorsements, so think he needs to focus on staying healthy. he better have those knees in ice water right now.

      Delete
    9. Technical he paid going be 5 million, 5 million and 15 million next 3 years, but for Houston salary cap purpose they get used average of 3 years instead what stated in contract.

    11. 8.37 is his yearly salary as a player. Plugging $ not included

      Delete
    12. You're correct, knick fan. I was thinking he will get paid the averaged amt, but that's only for salary cap purpose. A nice purposeful-loophole for teams that's below cap space.

  6. Sorry all my links don't have livestream. It's only showing the Chicago game or saying preseason game isn't being shown. The best I can do is the live audio on rockets.com.

  7. Kmart doesn't pass much to Lin, at least not so far. He looks him off and so far as I can tell, he is the only one on that team that does so. It's kind of obvious, but the sample size is small.

As I watch this game, it's clear Kmart is actually a freaking ballhog looking to shoot every time he can and looks everyone off. Guy blew 2 simple fast break 2 on 1's because he hates to pass. There's a reason despite being able to score 50 points, he isn't thought highly of...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Im also upset. 2 fast breaks - messed up. Im bleeding out of my eyes...

      Delete
    2. He'll come along. I guess it's what they call 'trusting' your teammate. Kmart doesn't trust Jeremy yet to score.

I also noticed at the end of the second, Kmart asked to get the ball after it was inbound to JLin and eventually got the ball from JLin, just so Kmart can be the guy taking the last shot of the half. Haha I guess Kmart isn't ready to give up being 'the man'

      Delete
    3. He did pass the ball in the end. Actually that was a pretty good run by the Rockets started all by Lin. He's definitely going into the paint more tonight not as explosive but very deceptive. However, hands down Asik DESTROYED their defense! Like 9 rebounds, 1 BS, 6 pts in 16 minutes wow!
Great ball movement in that last run, impressed by the Rockets.

      Delete
    4. It's ok, the Rockets are probably building up Kevin Martin's trade value ... but the team has a lack of good perimeter shooters, I wonder if they are thinking about keeping K-Mart for the season.

      Delete
    5. It's just typical Kevin Martin, the type of player that just try to score endlessly on every single opportunity, and sometimes wonders why the league don't show the respect that they deserve.

      Delete
    6. I have no problem with people taking initiative if they dont do it all the time. I think JLin doesnt mind it too. I just hate the fact that he blew 2 easy fast breaks :)

      Delete
    7. Yes, Martin is playing like an idiot. He's a total gunner with questionable shot selection and his reluctance to swing the ball and/or his inability to pass well is frustrating to watch. I sure hope Mchale has half a brain and gives the ball to Lin in crunch time situations or in designed plays. Or lets hope McHale sits Kmart on the bench and puts in Delfino or Lamb.

Trade Kmart and 1 of the extra big men on the roster for a SG defender in the mold of Tony Allen or Iman Shumpert. Get rid of Kmart PLEASE. This team is lacking in a high quality athletic guard defender.

I fear those games where Kmart gets torched by Kobe, Wade, etc, or plays lazy on Ray Allen etc...it's gonna happen. And Kmart thinks he needs to ineffectvely gun to get them back. Let's hope they can win in spite of him.

      Delete
    8. I have to disagree with the majority of you here. I think Martin is fine as a backcourt partner for Lin. Yes, he has his selfish moments but he is a true SG who has a scorer mentality first and foremost so I can't blame him too much. I would much rather have a true shooting guard like Martin who can create his own shot and take the pressure off Lin than those untalented Shumpert types who could only cause double and triple team from opposing teams for Lin. Also eventually Lamb will take over Martin's spot and can play both ends of the floor.

      Delete
    9. Yes, Martin will actually be good for JLin. He needs someone to be able to hit those open jumpers when the opposing D doubles. And Martin is certainly one of those guys who can consistently hit jumpers.

It seemed like Martin has a bad rep for not playing D, but he wasn't motivated last year. It seemed like the pre-season so far he's quite motivated to put in the effort on both ends.

About the trust issue, Martin commented at game-end interview in response to a question about why the team chemistry was surprisingly good in the starting five, he mentioned that the guys know how to play basketball, Asik and Chandler coming from good pedigree (he also mentioned JLin knew how to play). I guess for most players in the league JLin's lack of 'pedigree' is still in the forefront of their minds. That may lead to lack of trust that he can produce. This is not necessarily a criticism on on Kmart; its just how players think. After all, players probably don't follow others very closely and delve into the reasons for all the publicity regarding JLin.

      Delete
    10. I dont agree with you on the trust and pedigree part. You should probably read Michael Terrys analysis of cognitive bias on the previous thread. That explains it better.

Players may not follow other players very closely but when Im a pro athlete I should recognice another pro athlete. Besides - JLin is no longer the rookie like asian D-league guy. Theres been Linsanity, Lin has a 25 million dollar contract. There are tons of videos of JLin. Every NBA team has a report on Lin so even if you dont follow other players... you should know JLin.

People obviously dont have a problem to admit that they put a target on JLins back. But - doesnt that also mean that they recognise JLins abilities to some point?

Im sure that there are still people who are doubting JLin - but - pedigree is not likely to be the reason - bias and prejudice probably is.

As for teammates... if I have a new guy on the team or if Im the new guy I should get to know my teammates, see how they tick and what makes them tick. By playing with them I learn how selfish or unselfish they are and by checking their stats I learn how productive they are. As member of a team I would watch some tape and see what the number one on the team is known for. By the end of that process I should know the star of the team very well and in JLins case - I would trust him. I mean - did JLin make people around him better? Wouldnt that be good for me too?

So - if people still dont trust JLin in such a situation I wouldnt say its a problem of trusting or being able to trust JLin. I would say its a problem with admitting to be trusting JLin. That again leads us back to the debate about bias, prejudice, racial stereotypes, pecking order...

      Delete
    11. NBA players are HUMAN, and they don't read this site.

Consequently it's to be EXPECTED that a guy like Kevin Martin has no idea what Lin has already done in the league. Heck, even NBA personnel still don't have the remotest inkling of how dominant Lin has been for the last two years!

While I don't agree with the blanket dismissals of Lin, the hard truth is that Lin's simply going to have to play through all that. If Lin is the super smart guy I think he is, he'll simply use it as MOTIVATION to make sure that he maintains his focus and professionalism.

Besides, basketball is a reactive sport in which what goes on inside a guy's head is not as important as what he actually does with the basketball when he's playing on the NBA court!

  10. End of first half. JLin is playing pretty well. If he could just knock down more open jump shots he gets, he would be a lot more dangerous offensively. His shots seems to be off sideways, not short or long. Even though Martin likes to have the ball, when he shoots, I feel like it's going in. JLin should have gotten at least one more assist. I guess JLin will play 5 to 7 more minutes during the 2nd half and that's it.

    1. I agree about KMart. I feel Like they need Kmart. As long as his shot are going in, I'm all for it. Also, if doesn't get angry too *often* (which I don't think he will) when the ball isn't given to him, yet the team is winning - I don't believe too many people are a bona fide (extreme) jerk like that (maybe 10 in the league..... NYK has one; LAL used to have one, but now has two; Spurs has none).

      Delete
  11. JLin having a tough time on defense getting over picks, Vasquez getting into the lane too easily. Also not hitting open jump shots, maybe Doc Scheppler isn't the right shooting coach for him.

    1. Well - he is not taking too many shots. He did make a 3 - didnt count :) Maybe hes trying to get double double. Anyway - BOOOOH Lopez BOOOOH

  14. At least Lopez hugged and apologized -- guess he's not a dirty player.

    1. You dont wanna look bad you apologize. It doesnt mean too much. What he did was quite dangerous. He almost stepped on JLins arm on the way down.

      Delete
    2. Agree, but clearly, apologizing is better.

      Delete
    3. Frankly, I think R Lopez would have done that to any player in that position. It wasnt like he saw it was JLin and fouled him harder than usual. I always thought R Lopez started off in the league as a bit weak for a man his size. The past couple of years it seems like he made the conscious decision to be tougher. I remember R Lopez in the past year fouling players hard like that. I'd say R Lopez has just intentionally become a nastier player... not necessary a bad reputation to have for a center.

      Delete
    4. I really liked how JLin's teammates came to his defense though. Parsons apparently had a few words for R Lopez after the foul.

      Delete
    5. Thanks for pointing that out. I was wondering if his teammates came to his defense. My window was frozen.

      Delete
    6. If Robin Lopez was actually a talented defender like Ben Wallace or Tim Duncan, he wouldn't have to whack people like that.

      Delete
    7. Yes! Great Scott! Jeremy now has functioning teammates (not just in name only)!!!!! (;~))))

It's unrealistic to expect everyone to like each other, especially the longer they are stuck together more than with their family members, but I think they will respect one another and play as a team. Having good leaders will foster the cooperative culture. KMart seems like a good guy too.

      Delete
    8. My point didn't come across clearly.

Although the Rockets are playing as a team, what I meant was Lin's new teammates are coming to his defense when an opponent takes a chip shot at him (as expected, as that is the norm).

      Delete
  15. Jeremy Lin gets clobbered fouled by Brook Lopez ... no flagrant foul is called :(

    ReplyDelete
  16. With a target on Lin's back, he won't even make the regular season. That was so dirty just because they're losing!
Should've been a flagrant 1 just so they don't do it again.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yep - should have at least been flagrant 1!

      Delete
    2. He made a play on the ball with his right hand (fair), but his left came down on Jeremy's left shoulder (shady).

Not sure if it's a flagrant, but it's definitely excessive for preseason. I'm just glad JL's teammates got in Lopez's face for it, though. And that Lopez apologized for being an oaf.

      Delete
    3. Fans need to write to the NBA officials. If they are taking dangerous chip shot against Jeremy Lin in preseason games, it could get worse during the regular season, unless the league enforce their won damn rules !!!!!

      Delete
    4. Early exit of Jeremy from NBA regular season due to injuries caused by flagrant fouls will mean less international appeal of the NBA!

"...it could get worse during the regular season..."

  18. Douglas' shooting surprises me. I think because of this Machado is headed to D League.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I always felt Douglas was a gifted scorer. In fact, his passing has been quite good, too. Last year though he apparently shot himself out of the line-up. He's a good shooter, so I dont know how that happened.

I dont imagine Machado getting too many minutes even if he stays.

      Delete
    2. Didnt he have surgery on his shoulder???

      Delete
    3. Toney Douglas’ Demise In New York

He had the shoulder surgery at the end of the 2010-2011 season. Deadly from three point range, over 40% in 2010-2011 and led the league in 3's made in the second half of that season. Last season he was 25% from three.

      Delete
    4. Feel bad for Machado. The fact he's short is not his fault. He does a decent job of passing though. I do agree that Douglas will be the back-up PG for Rockets, unless he gets injured. It's good that both Lin and Douglas came to Rockets from Knicks.

      Delete
    5. "Friday night in Boston, Douglas hit rock bottom. D’Antoni benched him the entire first half, opting to insert D-Leaguer Jeremy Lin instead. D’Antoni did end up giving Douglas some PT in the second half, but Douglas missed all three shots he attempted. Despite playing just eight minutes, Toney managed to post a team low (-9) plus-minus...

New York now finds themselves an unimaginable seven games under .500, at just 8-15 on the season...

As for the rest of this season, the Knicks can certainly still sneak into the playoffs, but they undoubtedly need improved point guard play in order to consistently string wins together. And therein lies the problem…"

D-Leauger JLin...and therein lies the solution!

Machado is playing well. Liked how the cynical commentator said at this point when there is still 16 to 18 guys left on the roster everyone is playing their best basketball!

      Delete
    6. Im rooting for Douglas. He had a bad year and Lin basicly snatched Douglas job as PG (of course neither are to be blamed for that). And yet - he was rooting for JLin. He was never envious (at least he didnt seem to be), he never said anything bad about JLin eihter when other people did. In fact thats what he said:

"When Jeremy had his turn with Linsanity, I was there for him. I was happy for him. He’s my teammate. I would never think of it in a negative way. We were winning games, he was going good and I was proud of him. He had been through a lot coming from the D-League and he took advantage of his opportunity. I texted him the other day to see how his surgery went. He’s still my teammate. I know people say it’s an individual league, but at the end of day, we’re a team and a family."

So - hes a classy guy and I wish him success.

      Delete
    7. Yeah, I like Douglas and am rooting for him also. Glad they are on the same team, and I know Douglas can relate to JLin. And I think Douglas respects JLin for having fought his way up.

      Delete
    8. Douglas and Royce White playing together on the second unit could be SCARY.
Douglas is an excellent shooter with solid handles and Royce is a true point forward.

They'd give the defense an entirely different look from the Lin-led starters and put up a ton of points (even if their defense is weak).

      Delete
    9. Knicks are going to regret letting both JLin and TD get away. Rockets with better PG combo Imo.

      Delete
    10. Toney Douglas is looking like the solid numero uno backup! I'm so glad NY traded him to the Rockets (he'd have been at the end of the bench or waived)

      Delete
    11. It looks like Scott Machado and Shaun Livingston are battling it out for the 3rd PG spot. They are both gifted passers with incredible court vision. Not great at scoring. I give Livingston an edge because he's a longer defender.

      Delete
    12. Knicks should have given TD another chance. His teammates didn't exactly help him out either last season.

TD seemed to have always been good to JLin. He was the first to embrace JLin even before Landry after that epic NJ game.

    13. Watch certain Houston fans (cough, Clutchfans) start calling for Toney Douglas to start over JLin.

      Delete
    14. People joke about Toney Douglas.
But TD seemed truly happy for JLin [Nets game.]

“When Jeremy had his turn with Linsanity, I was there for him,’’ Douglas said. “I was happy for him. He’s my teammate. I would never think of it in a negative way. We were winning games, he was going good and I was proud of him. He had been through a lot coming from the D-League and he took advantage of his opportunity. 16. @Ixy:

Just because there are a few haters that doesnt mean the whole forum is anti-Lin.

There will always be a couple of idiots who hate and bash JLin - no matter where you go. These folks would probably let Mike Bibby start over JLin. However - I have followed a thread on the OKC game on clutchfans and I know that there are only a few haters. Most of them arent even serious - they are just clowning (due to their unstable mental status). So - please - be accurate - unless you want people here to panic or hate the clutchfans forum.

Also - I root for TD BUT JLin is clearly the better PG. It doesnt matter what PG features we are talking about -> JLin is either a bit better or a lot better. If you watch the games, compare their performances, check the stats you will see that anyone who would let TD start over JLin must be a hater. They probably dont know anything about basketball... they just dont like JLin.

If TD gets his shooting under control (very bad last year) he could be a good PG. He could be in charge of the first team - somewhere - but not in Houston - cause Houston already has a 1st PG - not just a good one - but a terrific one. Some even say -> elite PG.

    17. Toney Douglas is good guy. You can also see it in his face.

Unlike Toney, people who are resentful of another's success will sooner or later get bad karma for that. Karma is simply a short word that replaces phrases such as: "what goes around comes around" ; "you reap what you sow" ; "cause and effect". Thus, there is also good karma.

There is one hater who doesnt just seem to be active here and there but everywhere. Its quite a phenomenon - the internet seems to summon people to live out their dark sides.

Its just not basketball or JLin. You will find crazy people no matter what youre dealing with and where you go.

The other day I read a very insulting comment about asian people on youtube. I checked the other comments of that person. Turs out this person hates, insults and bashes asians in one comment but praises and claims to be asian in other comments. That person wrote hundreds of comments and they were all contradicting each other. Besides - that person wrote in english, german and french. Its crazy but I am not suprised. There are crazy people eveywhere.

Recently I had trouble. I would come to my car in the morning and I would find newspaper (torn to pieces) on the hood, cigarettes on the roof, a cigar under my windscreen wiper. One time there was a business card on my seat (convertible - soft window seal). That happened almost daily - over weeks. The other day I got up early and caught the culprit in action. I ran out - with the intent to take that person down just to find out it was a 60 year old lady who claims to be in love with my car.

And - that is just one of many nutcases I met. There is the lady who tried to set my tenants mailbox on fire, the woman who touched me to give me blessings, the guy who thought he could sleep on my car, the guy who claimed he lives in my house, the guy who claims he was selling my house, the neighbour who knocked on my door to tell me hes been robbed (on 4 consecutive nights). These haters are no different. They are crazy...

Yeah - malicious and crazy people everywhere :)

-There are players who envy and hate JLin
-There are racists who hate JLin
-There are crazy people who hate JLin (and whatnot)

JLin will have to deal with the hateful players. Dont worry - hes not alone. Those people who gave him a 25 million dollar contract (or his teammates, friends and agent or lawyer) will support him and protect him.

We as fans have to deal with the racists. If you somehow somewhere find hateful or racist stuff targeted at JLin you have to speak up, report to the admins and webmasters or if is really bad -> report it to the authorities. Freedom doesnt cover hate-crime and free speech doesnt cover hate-speech.

If you find such things in the media you have to contact someone who might be interested in that. I asume there is something like asian press association in your country that you can contact.

If you find hateful stuff bordering demagoguery (or hate crime or hate speech) you should contact the authorities. Im sure its punishable in the US. In my country demagoguery is punishable (from $$$ up to five years prison time). And remember - noone is anynomous - even online. Acutally - if someone delivers hate speech on the street and runs away its impossible to track that person down. If you deliver hate speech online -> theres evidence and you can be easily tracked down.

As for the crazy people -> show them how crazy they are and expose them. Webmasters should log their IP and network adress. Track them down and expose them. Its all possible if youre serious about it. I helped my buddy track down someone who posted bad stuff about him. Turns out -> it was his crazy girlfriend.

Talking about crazy... where is that "Obama666" guy who insulted each and everyone of us (including the POTUS)?

What is weird about some Jeremy Lin / Asian haters is that they are posting under articles about Lin or at Lin fan site, such as this site. That's why I said it's propaganda. I mean, I never even bother to search out fan sites of a player I dislike. Plus, that would leave me no time for my triple hobbies.

OMG, that's a lot of lunatics roaming in just one area. Very sorry to hear about that. You must be extra careful and maybe video tape when you can (since it's concerning your property).

I live in a quiet suburb surrounded by nature, but I'm aware of a lot of bad people roaming on this earth, which is why we live where we live. And we don't answer the door for uninvited acquaintances whom we don't really know - they can be THE MOST dangerous, such as some of your neighbors, because they are privy to something about you which they use to gauge whether one is an easy target or not for any kind of harassment or crime (know the area; are there only a few people live there; elderly or young; economic class; friendly/naive or cautious). We also don't answer unexpected delivery or any kind of solicitation (which is also under the *stranger* category) and have a "dog on premise" sign. We got most of our street smarts from beyond news reports (crime case-study shows and safety-related articles - they show patterns). It was only several years ago that we slept with our window open until we caught an elderly (65 ish) peeping tom looking in while getting up to go to the bathroom; he was walking his dog (for a good excuse); this guy apparently did it at least one other time, but he was leaving and "calling" his dog.

    25. Other major SAFETY tips (besides surveillance gear):

      - We don't hire for lawn or yard care service; we currently have an easy-care yard.

      - We have high-quality brand appliances that pay for themselves, as we haven't needed any service calls. And when we do need any house-call type service, we will invite family or friends over. Don't talk to the service person (or answer any questions) about anything personal, other than about the job at hand.

      - Our garage doesn't have the "peek" windows. People can look in to see if the house is empty or not. If the garage is empty yet there is a family member inside, it's even more dangerous..... The same idea with visible front or back doors.

      - If there are only a few people residing in the house, DO NOT put just 2 or 3 outside chairs on your front or back porch, even if you don't use all of them.

      - Close curtains and shades at night when lights are on in the house. People can see you inside, but you can't see anyone outside. It's shocking how many people do that. I always cringe and deliberately look away when I see it.

      - If there is a noisy outside a night, DO NOT go outside to check what or who it is (or at least not without a safety precaution). Near my town, someone did that, and he got tied up outside in the winter while the thug ransacked the house.

    26. "What is weird about some Jeremy Lin / Asian haters is that they are posting under articles about Lin or at Lin fan site, such as this site."
      - Yeah, I just don't see how someone would invest that much energy, if it's not something bothering them in a deep-seated way. You have Unknown swooping in time and again, trying to keep JLin fans in line [getting too uppity!] or going into a JLin fan site under a false user name to 'get' posters. o.O

      via wong,

You're welcome! I hope you're not laughing at me, hahaha..... Heck, you don't know who you're dealing with.

We also wouldn't stop if someone flags us down on lonely roads or in the backcountry, because everybody has cell phone these days (but it depends). Chances are, they are less likely to flag down a car full of people.

      Willydilly,

You better be very CAREFUL. Your neighbor is clearly unstable and also could be trying to rob your house - why did the guy bother you for 4 days in a row; it's highly odd. I've seen cases where some people will knock on a house, and just like an unexpected delivery strategy, if someone answers the door, they would say they have the wrong address or make up a story (like the neighbor of yours). But if no one answers, they may be there to rob the place. But the WORSE CASE scenario is if they actually WANT SOMEONE IN THE HOUSE and demand your PIN number; this type is seen in the news more and more these days (I've seen a hired help, like a yard worker, do this also)

Lol, my mom's always complaining how I'm so "dit" ["straight" -> lacking appreciation for nuances.] The "laughing at you" part, I didn't mean I was taking that seriously. I did want to convey I appreciate the tips. :)

I suppose you're right though, better be careful than sorry.

  21. The Rockets are gonna surprise a lot of people, yeah I know it's just pre-season, but still... I like what I'm seeing so far...

  22. Jeremy looked even better today. Three quick thoughts:

    1) He's learning the elite skill that only elite PGs like CP3 and Nash have -- making bounce passes in traffic, in the paint. He's done that a couple times already in these two games.

    2) He's getting sick of being called a sub-par defender. He's really ball-hawking opposing PGs and forcing lots of steals and tips and wasted shot clock. He could easily lead the league in steals this year.

    3) Still waiting on that catch-and-shoot 3, Jeremy! That's the one thing he hasn't flashed yet. Get on the phone, Doc Scheppler...

    1. I agree JLin is trying harder on his D and is improving and passing with more confidence. I think JLin needs to pick Kmart's brain rather than Scheppler's. Whatever Kmart is doing seems to be working.

      Delete
    2. The more I think about it the more I believe that JLin is just holding back. He did miss a couple of shots but then again - he didnt take too many shots overall. In a pre-season game with lots of people trying to figure things out, trying to get some playing time, trying to shine I feel like JLin is just concentrating on being a good PG in the first place.

Imagine how it would look if he took all the shots Kmart did? People would say hes egoistic. So instead - he passes the ball around. This way his teammates can show what they have - JLin can watch and learn their tendencies (how they roll, how they like to have it, where they like to have it). He also drove to the basket. Im not sure but I feel like he did much better compared to last game.

During last game he made a 3 pointer that wasnt counted. Today the same. He can shoot...

      Delete
    3. BTW: After the OKC game I wrote that JLin seemed to be hesitant to drive to the basket. There were 2 or 3 occasions when he waited for his teammates and passed the ball when he could have finished himself. I am happy with what Ive seen today. He made a couple of nice runs to the basket (like when he got fouled by Lopez). He was pretty quick and confident.

    4. JLin is definitely under-rated on defense. Some of his steals are amazing! I am also glad that he was more aggressive tonight and was able to get to the foul line often. That's his strength, and it makes up for a subpar shooting night.

Asik is definitely the most impressive player thus far, especially in rebounds. The problem is that there hasn't been anyone else who can rebound nearly as well. Montiejunas showed that he can score, but he's not rebounding well, and his opponents are scoring too many points in the paint when he's on the floor. Because of that, I'm not sure if he's going to make the rotation. He's going to need some time to build strength.

I'm hoping that White can come in when Asik sits (during the season). White is probably the next best rebounder the Rockets have. He doesn't need to play the 5, but having him at the 4 would help keep the Rockets from getting out-rebounded when Asik is off the floor.

Kmart is so valuable to the Rockets. I don't know why people want him traded. Even if it's his last contract year, I'd rather see him play out the entire season with the Rockets, and hopefully they can resign him. Kmart is so underrated, but the numbers show he is one of the most effective scoring SG in the league. Morey talked about the Rockets needing an All-Star player on the team. I think they will have two this year -- JLin and Kmart, best backcourt in the NBA.

    5. Last season, Kevin Martin had a rough time with McHale and the Rockets.

He was benched by McHale for selfish play and poor defensive effort. There was open speculation that Kevin Martin was not a winning player despite his stellar scoring numbers.

This year Kevin Martin has a better point guard that Dragic and Lowry: JEREMY LIN. Like so many players that have dramatically improved their game from playing off Jeremy Lin, Kevin Martin is not the same guy he was last season.

There are a lot of guys in the NBA who owe Lin a hefty commission because Lin made them better. Kevin Martin is the prime candidate for a breakout year playing alongside Jeremy Lin!

  23. Jeremy could totally be a John Stockton type PG, aka leading assist and steal leader, tough and underrated defender, efficient and clutch shooter when needed. The only thing missing for now is a Karl Malone type post partner who doesn't exist in this current Rockets team and I hope will be acquired in the future.

I for one also root for Douglas for the backup PG spot. He's a fine shooter and defender. I dislike Machado's unathletic game.

    1. John Stockton couldn't score in isolation, though.

I keep raising the ridiculously tired Sugar Ray comparison. Sugar led the league in assists and steals while also scoring plenty. And Sugar did it without Karl Malone.

As great as Sugar was, Lin is BETTER. Lin can do everything Sugar did, but Lin doesn't have the drug problem Sugar had. One day I'll be calling Sugar the "poor man's Jeremy Lin!!!"

    2. Good point, KHuang...

Jeremy still amazes me with his incredibly high basketball IQ, and he's making smarter decisions on not getting caught in the air or dribbling into traffic like some of the occasions from last year.

I feel that Jeremy is playing the art of fundamental basketball: create havoc for the opponent and play high percentage shots. It's just a beauty to watch and enjoy.

  24. AM 790 Houston didn't broadcast this game, instead had some lame sports talk show.

I tried that Russian website livetv.rus , but they only showed the 1st half. Then I tried thefirstrow.eu but they required a plugin to be downloaded (I am worried about downloading viruses). So I just listened.

Overall it was a good game. Except for his shooting, I thought Lin did really well and should have dominated Grievis Vasquez on both ends of the floor. Both played well.

This Rockets team is deep in talent. They just need more experience and a real low post scoring big man.

    1. Due to nba league policy, radio can't boardcast games through internet and can only be available on air. That's why you can't listen games on 790 unless you are actually in Houston area and turn on a real radio or you purchase an audio pass and listen on nba.com. ;-)

    2. @ABC Baller:

On thefirstrow you dont need any plugins (except Adobe Flash player that should already be installed). Ignore the "HD streaming" stuff and go for "Link1, Link2, Link3". If you have problems -> go to clutchfans forum. There is a thread "Where to watch". There are always a lot of links. Tonight they posted 3 working links.

I found a very good audio analysis from tonight's game. Did Clyde Drexler say "Great showing by Lin tonight" during the broadcast tonight?

    1. @Psalm234:

Its CNM (conservative new media). Basicly the fox news of Youtube... I would be careful.

These folks manipulate people. On their new video they portray the VP as evil. These are the folks who claim the VP was rude, inpolite and out of control during the debate just because he was a little agressive. They didnt make these claims when Romney was agressive. They criticise the VP for smirking but they didnt criticise Romney when he smirked.

They are people who claim Ryan brought up numerous facts when he was dogding questions and repeating his PR like statements all night. That "three times national champion" guy for good reason repeats that he is just voicing is "OWN PERSONAL OPINION" three times a minute. Why? Because whatever comes out of his mouth is BS.

They are just abusing athletes to lure in sportsfans by telling them what they want to hear about their athlete. Just watch some other videos. One guy talks (the one who self proclaims to be NBA expert, politics expert, expert for everything) and the other guy (three times national champion - of whatever) who acts like he is suprised. Of course - they always share the same opinion on everything.

    2. Politics aside, I thought his assessment on JLin performance against NOH was fair, supportive and very insightful. On another video, he praised Lin's post-game comments for his leadership to take responsibility to start on the defensive end, to continue praising his teammates (Big Pat and Big O).

I only wish the delivery of the analysis is more lively and using robotic voice :D
On the politics, perhaps I'll check out what they say when time allows.
      Thanks, @willydilly.

    1. Houston is Jeremy Lin's TEAM.

Unlike NY where guys pretty much stand around and save their best efforts for isolation scoring, Houston is a motion team led by Lin. So Douglas's athleticism is now being utilized simply because Houston is more active.

I wrote last season that I'd like to see Douglas and Lin together in the backcourt. I think it will happen, particularly as teams load up on Lin and a secondary ballhandler is needed to break the trap.
