I have strong feeling that Chandler will be Jeremy's sidekick like Landry Fields was last year. He'll be catching a lot of lobs from JLin. Seems like they already have the off court chemistry.
Q&A With Chandler Parsons | THE OFFICIAL SITE OF THE HOUSTON ROCKETS
Yeah probably.... I'd say lamb too. At least i hope that :D
ReplyDeleteSo people have been saying that Jeremy Lin is not going to play as well this year as he did when he was part of the New York Knicks. Although he was a rookie earlier in the year, he had chemistry with the other players, like Landry Field, Steve Novak, Jared Jeffries, Iman Shumpet, and Toney Douglas. Yes, they aren't the biggest basketball stars out there, but they worked diligently as a team and rose the Knicks to fame. Now, Jeremy Lin has been receiving tons of pressure as to whether or not he'll do well in the Rockets. He was a great player during his high school and Harvard years, and he still played amazingly well when he joined the Knicks. So even if he is now part of the Houston Rockets, he has the skill and potential to rise even higher than he did before. The Rockets have also added several other new players but I believe they all have the potential to become stars as long as they keep their passion to the sport. I also believe the Rockets will rise as one of the most unique and skilled teams, leading all the new players to a bright future. As a sincere fan of Jeremy Lin, I wish for everyone to give him all your love and support and to always have a positive view for him and his future. I can't wait until October when the season starts so that I can cheer them on!
ReplyDeleteDont worry. People always say a lot when the day is long. People used to say that JLin only got a contract with Golden State cause hes asian. JLins mom said during an interview that even some of her friends told her that - what she btw found very offensive. During his breakthrough game againt Nets the commentators said that JLin was a worse shooter and defender than Douglas. They also said that JLin is out of control when hes in the paint. Some said that he is a flash in the pan and what not. During the Nets game - when he passed to Douglas (shortly before his layup) the crowd even booed him.
DeleteAnd some of his "fans" here? They criticise him like they are in pro sports business. Cant shoot like this, cant go like that, no balance here, jumping the wrong way, slow lateral movements, points elbow to the wrong direction bla bla...
For me - it doesnt really matter. Maybe he is not going to have as much success with his new team as he had last year - who knows. But - hes a 100% healthy and hes got a big axx contract. He is surely motivated. The team results may be worse but why should JLin himself play worse?
Anyway - for me it is way more exciting to see a team of young players slowly grow and improve than to watch the dream team play against Nigeria.

ReplyDeleteTotally true.
DeleteEven I worry that Lin will get piled on with the double and triple teams. Yet Lin shredded the
vast majority of those last year with no help anyway!
Lest I sound like a hater, I will contentedly cheer Lin on and NOT use my decades of experience to erroneously predict what he can and cannot do.
There is only one Jeremy Lin. Guessing at what he's going to do based on what other players have done (even my man Sugar Ray) is fallacious at best!
No one knows how good he will be. He might be a very good player that will make the all-star team 2-4 times or he might be one of the all-time greats for his postion. So, nobody can accurately or should I say GUARANTEE what is Jeremy's Ceiling is.
DeleteI'm more relaxed after i saw the video in which lin says he'll still play for God and not to put on himself so much pressure.
DeleteProbably lin will get double team but that means he's playing great :D but he still has kmart and reasonable ball handler who can take the ball too but i think he'll be smart enough to get more experience and pass or shoot at the right time
If he's going to be double team .as a jlin fan . I going to feel that he is the best cuz he is double team and that's in a respected way
DeleteI'm not concerned at all about Lin dealing with the double and triple teams every night. Lin has amply proven that he knows exactly how to handle them.
DeleteWhat I don't know is how the Rockets will respond as a team to the defenses. I know that the Knicks responded very poorly by sabotaging Lin and acting like pansies until Lin finally took control of that team.
I'm not worried about the Rockets on the perimeter, as all of their players are good team players who know how to play. I'm far more worried about the big men, none of whom have received a pass from Jeremy Lin yet or switch covered with Lin on the pick and roll.
Should the Rockets big men prove ineffectual, opponents will crowd the perimeter to deny the three point shot while also fiercely defending the rim. The goal would be to force the Rockets to take tough contested midrange shots.
The reason Lin is considered so dangerous by opposing NBA teams is because he can get past any defender on the perimeter and finish inside against the NBA's best shotblockers. All his life, he's beaten every defense designed specifically to stop him.
Expect the Houston Rockets to be a typical Jeremy Lin team in which all these scrubby guys that wouldn't even make other teams are out there making hero plays in the gaps Lin creates for them.
If Parsons can average 15 ppg and 6-7 rpg then it will help their team. He has good playmaking ability for his position. I also see Lamb and Delfino producing consistently. However, the Asik and the other rookies are unknown and unproven. We do not know if they would even be solid for a rookie.
ReplyDelete"I have strong feeling that Chandler will be Jeremy's sidekick like Landry Fields was last year. "
- Sorry , but Fields and PArsons are worlds apart. Fields is way overrated. I don't see a lot potential in him. He's arguably the worst shooter for his position. He's slightly athletic, he's a decent defender like LIN. He is an okay rebounder. However, he has no playmaking ability.
On the other hand, Parsons is an elite defender. He's a far better shooter and scorer than Fields. He can create his own shots and he has a lot of size. So, Parsons is definitely a future ALL-STAR while Fields is a decent backup.
Hopefully, Parsons play well like Lin and Lamb so that the rockets has a fair chance in making the playoffs. Playoff experience is definitely invaluable.
2 years ago fields was much better. Then, as he said, the shooting guy was another one....
DeleteChandler Parsons is a unique player.
ReplyDeleteHe's a multiposition player who can fit any role asked of him. Chandler Parsons could literally play positions 1 through 5, though he'd have the most trouble against the small speedy point guards. Just throw Parsons out there and he'll simply PLAY.
Landry Fields is a guy I always thought would be a fabulous natural SF. He dribble drives from the corners beautifully and elevates far more than people realize. His problem in NY is that they tried to make Fields into a fleet footed natural 2 like Jeremy Lamb, which Fields is not. In Toronto, Fields will hopefully get to play his natural SF position and thus be the best SF the Raptors have had since Vince Carter.
Parsons also might end up being the tough enforcer that the Rockets will need to protect Jeremy Lin. I wanted the Rockets to go out and get a thug like Darko Milicic, but they don't actually need that if Parsons is the brute that I think he is.
It'll be interesting to see what Chandler Parsons does alongside Jeremy Lin. If Parsons has worked on his post up game with Kevin McHale, he might become the All Star that people here are predicting.
I can't talk about Chandler because I really haven't seen him play. I've seen his highlights and he looks like a really nice athletic player. I disagree with you on Fields. I think Fields is a Battier guy who doesn't get enough credit for his game. Did you know who led the Knicks in plus/minus stats last year...Fields: http://www.nba.com/statistics/plusminus/plusminus_sort.jsp?pcomb=1&season=22011&split=9&team=Knicks .
ReplyDeleteFields is a long, athletic defender with a limited offensive game, but he is a hustle type great team player. He actually shot a lot better before the career killer known as Melo came along. His offensive output struggled greatly after Melo showed up...what a surprise.
It was definitely Melo's fault that Fields shot 25.6% from 3s and 56.2% from the FT line. LOL!!
DeleteGood luck Toronto paying the worst Shooting SG in the league 20 MILLION. That is like burning Money.
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteI find it funny that people think JLin is getting paid a lot of money, when Fields is getting paid 20 Million. No way, Fields is at this point at the level of Battier who contributed significantly to Miami winning the Championship.
DeleteYes...a lot of it had to do with Melo and his style of play. Any person who has played sports knows that confidence is about 60-70 percent of the game. Once Melo came and he held onto the ball with everyone standing around, Fields' game suffered badly and he lost his confidence. In his rookie year mostly without Melo, he shot nearly 40 percent from 3 and 76 percent from the line. I can't stand Melo and the way he plays.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
Delete@eb5attorney,
DeleteI just gave you a plus/minus that put Fields leading at #1 on the Knicks. I honestly if Fields were on that team, he could have made similar contributions (they have the 2 best players in the NBA). Do explain.
Well, I cannot give you the real reason behind Fields' sudden shooting drought. But how can you blame 56.2 % FT shooting on another guy. Yeah, that seems fair. Melo can be blamed for the lack of ball movement but it is utterly ridiculous to blame him for another player's shooting woes let alone the FT shooting. Is fields distracted looking at Melo while shooting his Free Throws?
DeleteMelo indeed plays in a more grind-out style. The Woodson type of offense that is full of isolations.
By the way, Fields is only a slightly above average defender. No way he is the same caliber of Battier.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
Delete@nephelauxetic,
DeleteYou have provided excellent stats in the past...please provide them and perhaps I will be persuaded in terms of his defense. I agree that Fields is not in Battier's class yet, but it isn't out of the realm possibilities that he can be. My point with Fields is that his contributions won't necessarily show up in the box score which is why I mentioned his plus/minus stats when he is on the floor (again..plus/minus 242 which is amazing actually) . This is how Fields is simliar to Battier.
As for this FT shooting, for many of these pro atheletes, the charity stripe is all mental especially for a decent shooter (he proved that last year with his nearly 40 percent 3 point shooting). Once a player loses his confidence, his entire game can be affected. I agree that a 59 percent FT shooting percentage is abysmal, but I think it's an anomaly more than a regression to the mean, and it's a byproduct of a lack of confidence. It might be a bit too much to blame Melo for everything, but I try to do it any time I can. He ended the Linsanity run by himself and ruined the most basketball fun I've seen since Jordan sinking 7 3 points against the suns in a half- NBA Finals 94 I think.
Battier was not much of a factor in the regular season. He really became a consistent contributor in the playoffs. Fields can defend well but he is not an elite defender. He has good size but he averaged 4.2 rebounds despite playing over 28 minutes per game. Lin averaged 3.1 rebounds playing 26 minutes (being 4 inches shorter than Landry).
DeleteI don't think Toronto is getting Fields to play shooting guard.
DeleteThey've got DeRozan over there who is the player of the present AND future. As usual, the small forward position in Toronto is up for grabs.
Fields did just fine as a SF in NY, especially when Anthony was played as a PF.
It's not easy to play when you know you can't play the way you want or you can't miss shots and a billionaire can.
DeleteI totally agree with jlinisasuperhero. Look at Novak: who was before jeremy? What were his stats ?
I Expect it to work but they are 3rd seed at best. They aren't beating the HEAT and the CELTICS.
ReplyDeleteI think they could beat Celtics, but at the same time, they could do worse than several other teams. I know they are not beating Miami, OKC, LA Lakers for sure. Knicks is not in the select group of teams that will compete for the Championship. I would be surprised if Knicks make it past the 1st round of playoff.
ReplyDeleteThey will make it to the second round and lose to either the Heat and the Celtics.
ReplyDeleteThey cannot beat the Celtics. The Celtics were the most competitive team the Heat faced despite an injured Allen and Bradley. Even with a laughable bench. They have better chemistry than the KNICKS.
Knicks will win 53-55 games this year. Be prepared for all of the "Knicks are better without jlin talk" all throughout the year. Melo will be motivated and still holds a chip on his shoulder about the whole Linsanity era. Reality will hit when they go to the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteYou absolutely correct!
ReplyDeleteThey will struggle in the second round for sure.
Waitaminute.
ReplyDeleteNeph, it was YOU who was ordering us around two posts ago because you were sick of people posting about the Knicks.
Now you're here talking about the Knicks' chances? It's OK to talk about the Knicks when you're the one doing it but not OK when others do?
What a HYPOCRITE you are, criticizing others for doing the same things you do yourself. You think you're better than everybody here, but you're NOT.
Calm down men :D take it easy, we're all friends :D
ReplyDeleteKnicks? Last year if it wasn't for jeremy they would have been eliminated in group stages. What they've got now? Kidd? Camby ? I don't think they can improve last year's position, at least not they'll not reach the top 4.
Problems will be when paul will join them next season....
Yes, please calm down people. :)
ReplyDeleteI think Psy-sanity is currently globally bigger than Linsanity ever was for non-basketball heads. I guess it's the year of global sensations of Asian descent. You know Lin and PSY's common thread? Both guys toiled in freaking Boston, in my opinion, the most overtly racist big Amercian city in the USA. That town hates them anything that isn't classically Bostonian and American and Irish. Boston, wow, how that place sucks for Asian-Americans and Asians from abroad. I think that's why Lin is even more mentally tough, going to college in that miserable city that hates Asians and all things not traditionally Bostonian. On some twisted level I respect Bostonians - they simply say outloud what most non-Asian Americans only think to themselves in other towns and cities across the USA.
ReplyDeletePSY probably got his fair share of American racism in Boston, and I'm sure it helped toughened him up and will prepare him well for his current expansion into the USA music scene. PSY's obviously comical, but it's nice he doesn't handle himself off stage in a way that embarasses himself or degrades the Asian race across a global stage.
Yep, this was a random posting.
I'm a basketball head and a musician, but I have NO idea who "Psy" is!!!
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
Delete@KHuang, Psy is a Korean rapper whose 'Gangnam Style' music video became a viral hit with 170M views in Youtube in just 7-8 weeks. His fun video and outrageous invisible horse dancing style was lauded by many celebrities in the US as pure genius. He got multiple interviews from CNN, ABC, Ryan Seacrest and taught Britney Spears how to do the horse dance. Check out this live Dodger game appearance to appreciate how infectious the music video to the Dodger fans. Hilarious!
Deletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYS8QSIlEPg
It might look like a silly dance but according to one article it is actually a subtle social commentary jab at the lifestyle of the Korean rich wealthy people (young peole from Samsung/Hyundai families) living at the Gangnam area (Beverly Hills-like area in Korea) who prioritizes style/materials over substance (i.e. eat $2 ramen noodle but buy $10 Starbucks coffee)
@swingline, I agree that Psy carried himself in a well-respected intelligent manner often saying how grateful he is that his video became a hit in the US. Even Justin Bieber producer contacted him to sign him up. He might look like William Hung who can't sing a tune but he is a trained musician who simply managed to break into US music industry while many beautiful and handsome KPop stars failed. Once you hear him talk, you get the impression that he is thoughtful, easy-going and has substance. So far he is a good representation of Asian/Korean public persona in the US, just like Jeremy Lin is a good Asian-American public persona.
Also check out the hilarious 60-year old mom and son dance in a parody :) It will make you smile and perhaps ask your mom to dance :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDJXgiUe_EM
It would not surprise me if more younger Americans (under 15) know of Psy than JLin. What's funny is that Psy never intended to break into the American music scene. I would not be surprised if they play Psy's song at Houston Rockets games time to time.
DeleteWhoa! I've been watching Psy's YouTube videos. And I watched the following video(for the first time), then watched some other videos of his, and then came back to the video in 38 minutes to see it one more time..... During that 38 minutes, it added 1,800,974 more views @ 175,295,251 views since Jul 15, 2012. It's fun, hilarious, catchy:
Deletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bZkp7q19f0&feature=related
Ok, I've looked at Psy.
DeleteI'm completely unimpressed. I don't like the consistently negative vibe he puts out.
His mocking style plays right into the negative stereotypes that the American music industry holds about Asians. No wonder they're so interested in him.
That's cool if people like him though. I have virtually no interest whatsoever in modern day American music particularly if it's affiliated with LiveNation. I just happen to prefer musicians that display the full range of emotions in their art, and the best ones like Tommy Emmanuel or Joe Bataan or Eumir Deodato often do it in a single song!
If I want to see a great Asian musician, I'll listen to Jake Shimabukuro or Midori or Yo Yo Ma (I prefer him in Asian music like in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) or the great Chinese violinist Li Chuanyun who I feel is the greatest violinist in the world on modern day concert stages.
Delete@KHuang, the music video is a satire of Korean playboy so he's playing a character. This is an article reviewing the hidden message behind the "dress classy dance cheesy" them. I just learned that South Koreans are surprisingly much more in credit-card debt than the US.
Deletehttp://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2012/08/gangnam-style-dissected-the-subversive-message-within-south-koreas-music-video-sensation/261462/
"..Koreans have been kind of caught up in this spending to look wealthy, and Gangnam has really been the leading edge of that," Hong said. "I think a lot of what [Psy] is pointing out is how silly that is. The whole video is about him thinking he's a hotshot but then realizing he's just, you know, at a children's playground, or thinking he's playing polo or something and realizes he's on a merry-go-round."
I saw one of Psy's video, and I don't get the hype.
DeleteHis music isn't that great and his look is like a somewhat more talented version of William Hung.
That is probably one reason why Americans are going so ape shit over Psy.
There's a difference between laughing with someone and laughing at them.
Psy most likely falls in the latter category for most Americans.
There are countless TRULY GREAT Asian American male musicians that only have a fleeting moment of fame, if at all.
DeleteI don't think that will ever change in the eyes of American music producers. The same racism that prevents people from accepting Jeremy Lin is preventing great Asian musicians who CAN SELL from ever being properly promoted or appreciated.
I appreciate musicians with a far more critical eye than I do basketball players, so a guy like Psy does nothing for me. I don't even find him all that entertaining. But if I listen to a true Asian American artist like Joe Bataan or Don Ho, I'm much more impressed.
What music producers don't realize is that there are A TON of "musical Jeremy Lins" out there that they could easily be making millions of dollars from. I myself definitely am one of those guys, and I'm not being conceited like a lot of nonAsians and Asians claim.
I acknowledge that an expensively produced professional top dollar music video act like Psy can indeed make a dent in the American market provided that it degrades Asians using an Asian guy in a sexually repulsive role.
DeleteI also want nothing to do with it.
I am free to like and dislike whatever I want. To the Psy guy I give THREE THUMBS DOWN.
There are so many other musicians of Asian extraction that I prefer. I'll cobtinue to focus on those guys.
You can't make me like Psy and his degradation of degradation.
DeleteI play pro music myself, so I know exactly what a real musician is vs a SELLOUT like psy. I don't like ANYTHING about his act and NOBODY can change my opinion.
Like I said, there are so many other REAL Adian musicians who I prefer because of their positivity and artistry. Those guys gwt my attention and affection, not this overproduced hater music which flames people for fun.
Very nice interview with Parsons. I'm looking forward to other Rockets' interview.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting!
am i the only one who thinks the knicks have no chance of getting to the playoffs this coming season? i mean nothing really has changed. they still have that huge chemistry problem with melo/amare. that's not going to go away so easily. shump isn't going to be with them for the first half of the season. and no lin to save their season. all they have are some new old guys. they've gotten older, slower, no defense perimeter defense with shump out and lin gone, and no offense as there's no one that can break down the defense by driving the lane constantly like lin did. if baron wasn't able to be affective with that team, chances are kidd wont be either. and fatty felton? forget about it. the ball will just continue to swing around until it gets into either melo's or amare's hands and then comes the chucking. lol ppl talk about how they've improved this off season but what the hell makes them better all of the sudden? where is the game plan?
ReplyDeletehell, i would even bet the rockets will win more games than the knicks. with lin driving and dishing, the rockets automatically have an affective game plan. they just need plug the surrounding pieces to fine-tune that game plan.
ReplyDeleteI see your point and concur, Blake.
ReplyDeleteDo you think the Rockets can come into the Garden and get "Jeremy Lin" chants going?
i don't see why not. if lin and the rockets played well leading up to that game and the knicks disappoint as i predict, then the fans in the arena will not only chant "Je-re-my! M-V-P!", but they will also chant "Boo" to melo and the knicks. paying fans in the arena aren't like the delusional fans on realgm. they have the money to pay those big ticket prices and they will voice their disapproval at the games.
ReplyDeletemy fear is that parsons shoots like fields in his second year. if that happens, delfino will be starting at the 3. parsons doesn't sound like he worked on his game this offseason, with all that traveling he did. i'll be happy if he can just maintain 33-34% in 3s this season.
ReplyDeleteParsons is a point forward while Fields is a wing SF. Parsons can put the ball on te floor to create his own shots.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteIf Parsons will be in a shooting slump, Delfino is pretty solid. He shot 36 % from the 3pt line last season. However, I'm not so sure about his ability hit other kind of shots as he shot 40% from the field.
DeleteDo not worry so much as Fields shot 46% from the field despite his atrocious perimeter shooting. He still can slash to the basket.
Delfino is more of a shooting guard, not a true small forward. Which is a good thing if Kevin Martin gets traded and/or Jeremy Lamb isn't ready to start.
DeleteDelfino is the most experienced veteran of the bunch, he's been in the NBA, Team Argentina, and international game. I hope he gets major rotation minutes. The Rockets are paper thin at guards who can shoot the ball.
Delfino might be solid but he cannot score the way Matin can. So I'm guessing that Martin won't be traded at the start of the season. Morey will check if Lamb and Delfino can produce sufficiently. If not, then expect Martin to remain as a Rocket until the trade deadline.
DeleteMorey really made a mistake amnestying Scola. He should have at least traded Scola for a future draft pick.
Carlos Delfino is a hardnosed NBA veteran swingman with flawless fundamentals but limited athleticism.
DeleteGive him an open shot and he'll hit it most of time. Give him an open lane to drive and he'll attack every time. Stick him on a scorer and he'll try to D it up every time. With Delfino, he'll give every ounce of effort and make all the right plays.
There's only one problem. When Delfino plays against the NBA's athletes, he struggles. Despite his flawless technique, he just can't quite shake free of them on offense or keep up with them on defense. That's why his actual production can be wildly inconsistent, as he largely relies on opponents losing their concentration to get his game going.
Fortunately, Delfino is also incredibly smart. He recently played for that Bucks team that had one of the most havoc generating players in the NBA - Brandon Jennings who is a guy that no single defender, including Jeremy Lin, can keep up with off the dribble. Delfino now will be playing with Jeremy Lin who isn't as quick off the dribble as Jennings but is actually a far better and more dangerous player who cannot be stopped without a double team. And Delfino WILL capitalize on the gaps.
Carlos Delfino is the exact kind of athletically limited but fundamentally sound player that Jeremy Lin has won with all his life. Unlike many "star" players who cannoy score unless they get the ball right where they want it, you can throw the ball to Delfino anywhere on the court and he's going to make a good play. And defensively, Delfino will also mesh well with Lin provided that Delfino is not matched up with a guy that can outquick or outjump him or both.
I will mark Dec 17 Knicks-Rockets at MSG in my calendar :D
ReplyDeleteI don't care who wins but it should be fun to watch and the place will be rocking! My Christmas wish would be Jeremy to play well plus the "Je-re-my! M-V-P!" chants with camera on Mr. Dolan's stoic face!

ReplyDelete"Chandler Parsons has spent the offseason working on his leg strength.
ReplyDeleteParsons' shot became flat at times when he was tired toward the end of games, so increased leg strength will help combat the issue. The 2011 second-round pick said that his legs are "much stronger now" and emphasized that he is working on a consistent shooting motion for better results. His goal is to shoot at least 75 percent from the foul line and between 37-40 percent from behind the 3-point line. Working on improving as a playmaker as well, Parsons said that he's "a lot stronger and a lot faster" than he was during his rookie season"
http://www.rotoworld.com/recent/nba/1869/chandler-parsons
Chandler Parsons seems too light as he only weighs 200 lbs.
Parsons really need to improve his FT shooting. From what I've read from some forums, he has always been a bad free throw shooter since his college career.
DeleteParsons has the basics to be a good small forward. He moves well without the ball, and plays hard defense. These are things you can't teach a player. All he needs is to polish his jumpshot and get stronger, a good trainer can improve that.
DeleteI'm more worried about Omer Asik stepping into the role of center. He's gonna be the weakest link in the Rockets offense, he had trouble catching the ball and scoring around the rim. When he's fouled, he's a 40% freethrow shooter at best. Asik is the player who needs most improvement.
My belief about Chandler Parsons is that he's probably not going to be a creative player who generates shots for others at the NBA level. In short, he's not a STAR.
ReplyDeleteWhat Chandler Parsons can be, however, is a Swiss Army basketball player that does everything good but not great. And that's more than enough to make an All Star team or start for a contender.
The Rockets had two good but not great point guards last year. Kyle Lowry and Goran Dragic are solid players, but they don't disrupt opponents with their athleticism or creativity. The difference between those two guys and Jeremy Lin is that Lin is at a different level of athleticism and thus is a game changing PEST on both ends of the court. And Chandler Parsons is the kind of player who may not get it done on his own but can really ball it when he's playing 2nd fiddle to a star like Lin.
Where I could see Chandler Parsons get into trouble is this: It's the 4th quarter and teams are guarding Lin, Parsons, and Martin. They're ignoring the center and power forward, so even if Lin splits the double team and passes off the next player is faced with a new double team. That player is Chandler, but he doesn't have the athleticism or creativity to beat that trap.
Keep in mind that there have been plenty of All Stars who are not creative stars that can consistently produce even against NBA rotating defenses. I'm not saying that Parsons is an All Star, but he's not a scrub either.
PArsons can be a star but is limited to SCORING and DEFENDING. He has some playmaking ability (around 3-4 assists). He has good athleticism and can shoot the ball well (except in the FT line). He might not be great but I can see him score around 18-20 ppg after a couple of years. He may not be a good first option but I could see him excel as the secondary or the tertiary option.
DeleteLowry is a good defender that lacks size. He is a more physical defender compared to Dragic and Lin. I saw him annoy Parker a few years ago because he was getting up to Parker's body.
Jeremy Lin uses his length to guard smaller point guards, so he doesn't need to body up opponents.
DeleteNow if Jeremy Lin were played at SG, he definitely would be bodying bigger opponents and grabbing and holding to fight through picks.
For sure, Jeremy Lin is a far better defender than Lowry according to the numbers. Jeremy Lin is also the rare point guard that can occasionally get a defensive stop 1 on 1, which most starting PGs cannot do because of the enforcement of hand checking rules.
Lin is the better help defender while Lowry is the better pick-n-roll defender ( maybe because of his experience)
DeleteLowry was better in defending the pick and roll because Lin's Knick tanking teammates were trying to help opponents score on Lin, sometimes by shoving Lin in the back.
DeleteI am a big believer in lin's ability but he does look bad in the pick and roll at times because to me he lacks lateral quickness at elite nba levels. Plus he "looks" slower than roses shumperts etc going sideways on defense and seems to struggle on lateral changes. The biggest problem is Lin plays defense upright. I never see him get in a low crouch position.
DeleteLin is still human and he makes mistakes too. Sometimes he cheats on d too much and gets burned too.
Everyone gets screened off though whether it's lebron or tony Allen. Lin's mistakes are also magnified as are his successes.
To me the reason lin is good on defense is that Lin is a loose ball getting, ball deflecting, havoc wreaking guy who gets steals or knocks balls around to eat down the shot clock, cause jump balls, or allows teammates to get the balks etc. He kind of makes the game ugly like a rugby scrum but it keeps the score close. That's probably why he plays defense upright so he can get those steals and deflections I guess.
Also, Lin likely couldn't even bend his leg because of his bad knee.
DeleteJust recently I had a short bout of knee tendinitis, which doesn't even remotely compare to Lin's injury. I couldn't crouch, and I couldn't do the things I was used to doing.
We'll see this year if Lin has improved his pick and roll defense.
I have been saying all along, Knicks may end up accomplishing less than they did last year, mainly because there may be less of teamwork in their team.

ReplyDeleteI wanted to comment on Psy. I see many similarities between him and Jlin at the moment in terms of their meteoric rise to stardom. Jlin was subjected to a lot of subtle and not so subtle racism (ie references to Rudy and the small pe**s thing, etc.). Similarly, Pys has already been compared to the unsavory William Hung who obviously had no talent and was just another racist caricature of US society. Psy is a classically trained musician with incredible dance acumen/singing ability and was a star in Korea for 12 years. The video Kangnam style was the culmination of his musical genius (he wrote, danced, and choreographed the entire thing..the video has had close to 200 million views in less than 60 days). People say he's a fluke and a one-hit wonder..sound familiar..can't wait for some pe*** jokes to come out? Check out what Simon says here about Psy (Simon from American Idol..one of the most most critical musical judges ever):

My wife read on a message board that in some back-water town in Texas somewhere where her son goes to school, the entire football team broke out in the horse riding dance. This is not just a "thing"...
sorry a bit confusion "My wife read on a message board that in some back-water town in Texas somewhere where her son goes to school" so it's not your son?
Deleteanyway it's sad people likened Psy to william hung. Psy is an incredibly talented musician.
Well I think he's like William Hung.
DeleteI'm not seeing all that much talent there either.
@Khuang,
DeleteI see your point about the idea of Psy being exactly the kind of racist stereotype the wider American audience can laugh at. However, if you go beyond his less than stellar looks, I think he emanates "coolness" and a style of dance that really get's people going. If you look at Yao Ming, let's be honest here, he looks like the second coming of Frankenstein, but he had a beautiful basketball game with a smooth shot and great footwork/hands for a person of his size. I think both of those guys represent Asian masculinity in their own way.
As for his talent, I'm not sure that you can make a judgement based on one music video. You may think that one was a bit cheesy..I think it's the same argument people use for saying Jlin sucks because he was terrible in the Miami game. If you got look at 5-6 of his music videos, you'll see he is immensely talented and creative.

DeleteI posted the above post, but was logged into the wrong profile.
DeleteI'm no ordinary pro when it comes to music.
DeleteI've won major music competitions and have danced professionally live in paid shows for my living. Thus I have a veteran stage performer's knowledge of what is adorably funny and what is CRASS, especially since my work was in professional musical vaudeville.
Psy is a guy who makes his living by making fun of himaelf and others. Because he lacks the artistic nuance and physical control to be a real artist, he resorts to self degradation to elicit audience responses.
People in America, including other Asians, LOVE to see Asian men demeaning themselves and Asian culture. William Hung was stereotypically unsexual and inept in a way that American audiences loved, but he was not a self hating sellout like Psy who ridicules his own culture to make money.
In my years of high paid vaudeville work, I never had to resort to demeaning myself or my culture. I was doing comedy work for white American audiences, and I never once played the role of the weak subservient inept asexual disgusting self hating Asian lech that Psy plays.
Pay os EXACTLY the kind of artist I never wanted to portray myswlf as in show business. I'm not famous like him either, and I never even dreamed of degrading myself or my people like that. No amount of money and no amount of criticism will convince me to change my stance on that issue.
Yeah the Rudy thing is just classic USA. No Asian American leader wants to come out and rock the boat and say what we all know - that Lin made it to the nba because he is a super talent, not some nba bench scrub. sure he got lucky as heck to make it there. Yes he improved. But he was passed over mainly because he was Asian. Lin had to show super talent to make it there whether it was killing at Harvard, summer league, d league, he'll he killed in some warrior games and coach smart was quick to bench him. Lin did the same thing as a rookie to Utah he did to new jersey his second year. Smart just benched him fast because Lin was too dominant that game.
ReplyDeletePeople in America refuse to believe that such racism is possible because it makes the country look super racist when it pretends to be a melting pot.
Carmelo's Rudy comment is just classic how Americans think of Asians including Asian Americans in the Western society. It's a put down comment and we all can see it clear as day.
Lin is a freakish over achiever. He is has the ability to kill on the court to go with his killer instinct. As long as stern doesn't tell the refs to keep Lin in check and gives Lin an honest chance to win games, Lin will kill on the court. Don't discount how racist America is. I will not be surprised how capable Lin will be at winning games. The rest of the world will be because they want to pretend the USA is all about equal opportunity.
Lin has to obliterate on the court to earn respect and he will. That's the only way to stop the Rudy comments. Nobody wants to acknowledge the racism so they can only pretend he got a lot better at basketball in 6 months magically.
There is no way to stop the racist comments.
DeleteAll Lin can do is play his best. It's not up to him whether people are going to accept him or not.
The next Asian American coming into the NBA is going to get compared to Jeremy Lin. Tgat'd a GOOD thing.
2K13 Ratings
ReplyDeleteMartin - 81
Lin - 77
Parsons - 74
this is the rotation/ avg. minutes i would expect in the first month of the season:
ReplyDeletelin 34
martin 34
parsons 26
patterson 28
asik 30
lamb 16
delfino 24
white 15
jones 18
donatas 15
notice there's no room for a true backup pg. but they have several point forwards to fill the role.
I doubt Donatas will only get 15 minutes.
DeleteMartin could be traded earlier than expected.
LAMB is going to play more than 16 minutes. I expect around 20 at the start of the season but eventually it will become more than 25 minutes.
DeletePARSONS played 28 minutes last season so don't expect him to play less than 30 minutes. Around 32 minutes probably.
Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle tweets,
ReplyDelete"While on he subject of Rockets camp, McHale starting anew, by tmrw, every Rox player will be in TC for workouts. Most have been there fore weeks."
Can't wait for the season to begin!
I don't disagree with McHale calling Rockets in to workout at all.
DeleteHowever, I am noticing that the NBA offseason is getting shorter and shorter even though the official schedule says it's the same amt of time.
For example, Magic center Glen Davis talked openly about how his intention was to train at the Magic facility all summer. He even said that the Magic had a great chef at the facility that would feed him.
What I don't like is that players who don't show up to training camp super early are being regarded as less commital than players who spend all offseason training with their teams.
Right now Michael Beasley of the Suns is being openly criticized for showing up two weeks later than the entire Suns roster. Yet training camp hasn't even started yet and Beasley is there EARLY. It's wrong for people to be calling Beasley's commitment to the game into question when training camp hasn't even started yet!
I know NBA players are earning huge amounts of money and have the greatest jobs, but they are still PEOPLE with lives and families that don't get to see them much during the season.
At the rate things are going, there already is no such thing as an NBA "offseason".

ReplyDeletei would like to see donatas play 25+ minutes and develop into another dirk n. but right now he needs to learn to defend and build strength. he will have difficulties defending bigs like g.monroe, k.love, a.bynum.
ReplyDeletedonatas has all the potential to become an all-star, and i believe in time he will get there.
martin may be traded, but i'm betting he won't be. rockets need him this year to make the playoff, and i think they will at least be in contention through april.
lamb is a good prospect but i think there's less than 20% chance that lamb becomes as efficient of a scorer as martin this year. if lamb can play in the nba like the way he did this summer, then he's on his way to become a starter or get 25+ min/gm...but he will still need to shoot better at 3s and improve his assist/turnover ratio.
if parsons get 32 min, then that will take minutes away from either delfino or white. i'm not sure if parsons can shoot better than delfino. the one thing that jlin really needs from his teammates is good outside shooting in order to create space for him to penetrate.
patterson's minutes may be the biggest variable since it will depend if he's fully healthy and how well the rookies play. right now, patterson is the most reliable defender at the 4, and to backup asik at the 5. i expect to see him do better on the boards this season, as long as he's healthy.
i would like to see white get 20+minutes because he's got so much potential w/ his size and skills. but right now, he cannot defend the post. he just needs time to work w/ mchale and learn how to stay out of foul trouble. if he defends the 3, then that takes away his strength inside. he's a great rebounder, and he knows how to box out big opponents.
it looks like JLin will be in Houston tomorrow night: http://twitter.com/ChandlerParsons/status/247394195151659008/photo/1, sleeping on Parsons' couch.
