With the lottery pick from the Kyle Lowry trade, lots of cap space, and tons of young talent, the Houston Rockets are still the team most likely to land DHoward or ABynum (if a trade happens this off-season) per Tony Mejia. Follow Tony Mejia for latest:
Tony Mejia (TonyMejiaNBA) on Twitter
If they don't end up with Howard or Bynum, they'll undoubtedly trade a few of their stockpiled PF's (partial below), as well as bunch of other salary fillers, to cut down their roster which stands at over 20:
Royce White (SF/PF)
Marcus Morris (SF/PF)
Terrance Jones (SF/PF)
Donatas Motiejunas (PF/C)
Pattrick Patterson (PF/C)
Rockets 2012-13 Roster | THE OFFICIAL SITE OF THE HOUSTON ROCKETS
If no DH or AB, I'd love to get a Andre Iguodala, athletic type, as the SF starter. Chandler Parsons is a nice player but is better suited as a 6th man then as a starter without DH.
I'm sure they don't want to let Jeremy Lamb or DonM go in any type of trade, but if they can get a Howard, Bynum, or Iguodala, they may have to lose at least one. Anyway you cut it, look for lots of change in the Rockets roster before the start of the 2012-2013 season.
I think this team is still thin at the guard positions. Kevin Martin has been on a slow decline for a while. Jeremy Lamb and Scott Machado (If he makes the cut) are rookies, it's not known if they can play well in extended minutes. Rockets need to get a solid PG off the bench to give JLin some much needed rest.
ReplyDeleteI vote Nate Robinson.
I think Nate will be too expensive. He had a nice year for Golden State (career high assists) and will command either big money or heavy playing time...neither of which the Rockets want to give him.
DeleteWily old vet Earl Boykins is fine by me.
Who is he best choice for Rockets-Bynum or Howards? Howards is a bit of eccentric and unpredictable (character wise) and he he causing problem for the young team? Can he play along Jeremy? That's all the questions need to be addressed before begining of the season. New yeam mated need more time to mesh and built up chemistry.
ReplyDeleteIn theory, Iguodala would be a great fit next to Lin because of his playmaking ability (when Jeremy gets doubled and trapped), but he would only make them a 7th/8th seed at best. And the Rockets don't want to get stuck on the "mediocrity treadmill."
ReplyDeleteHouston wants either a superstar like Dwight OR a tank job to get a top 5 draft pick. They might settle for Bynum, despite his history of injuries, IF they can get him cheaply (keeping Lamb, Motiejunas and Mavs first rounder).
I'm fine with the "superstar or bust" strategy. The next two years belong to the Heat and Lakers anyway, so Houston might as well develop the youngsters if they can't land Dwight.
For the record, I think Martin and Patterson will flourish next to J-Lin. Martin will be wide-open on the wing for 3s and Patterson could have a break out season with his ability to finish above the rim on the pick-and-roll.
Morley and Mchale must share the same sentiment how far and how deep they want the them to develop; sufficient and adequate timeline, supports from coaches and training staffs and a visionary owner will build a strong foundation for a team to go far. Looking at the current roster, Rockets still has a long way to go in becoming a strong contender in the playoff; therefore Rockets FO has to be realistic and not garner any wistful hope and expectation: win now mentality towards their young and raw team, the effect will be disastrous.
ReplyDeleteI think Daryl Morey really underestimated Jeremy Lin. He would be surprised how many wins Lin bring to the team. Lol.
ReplyDeletePar for the course for JLin: He's been proving 'them' wrong since forever.
DeleteHas anyone else noticed that Jeremy has unfollowed Carmelo and JR Smith on Twitter? He's still following all the other Knicks players except those 2. Lol.
ReplyDeleteWOW I KNEW HE FOLLOWED THEM LIKE A MONTH AGO OR SOMETHING, BUT NOW HE UNFOLLOWED? LOL! SERVES THEM RIGHT FOR BASHING LIN!
DeleteYeah, you can go check his follow list. He's no longer following them. I remember that he still followed them before the contract issue. He even followed Amare but not those 2. Lol.
DeleteNice piece of info. Lin is gonna try to smash the Knicks when they play. Felton, Kidd, or smith will have to take a cheap shot on Lin to keep him from killing on the court. I wish their meetings were after the all star break so houston can gel more but I think Lin is gonna approach that game like the lakers game and come out to deliver a clear and decisive message to the Knicks and his doubters. So much of the nba is dependent on refs protecting players and whether or not they blow the whistle on fouls and call the game properly. If Lin gets calls as the rocket's team star, Lin will be effective on the court.

I don't know if he's available, but I really like Al Horford. He's playing out of position right now in Atlanta next to a chuckerin Josh Smith. IMO, he'd be a 20 and 10 guy in the right situation. Him playing with Lin in the P and R and besides a center like Asik would result in a career year.
ReplyDeleteIs give up Martin, Jones, Morris, and 1st Rounder in return for Horford, Anthony Morrow, and DeShawn Stevenson.
But even as currently constructed, this Rockets team is better than many will project them.
This Rockets team is too deep at power forward, not enough who can truly play the small forward. That's why I was hoping they should have signed Andrei Kirilenko. Also Brandon Roy would have been a back court mate for Jeremy Lin. But Minnesota got both of these players.
DeleteRumor has it, the Rockets are trying to lowball Carlos Delfino into signing for a minimum contract. Don't mess this up Morley, signing Delfino will complete the puzzle.
I am crossing my fingers that Royce White and Terrence Jones can play the backup small forward position without being totally lost in defensive transition.
DeleteIf those two rookies don't work out, the Rockets should turn to two players that got the job done alongside Lin in the past: Bill Walker and Renaldo Balkman.
For this particular Rockets team, I'd go with Balkman. I'd use him as a defensive stopper at all 5 positions. If Balkman could master a corner 3 point shot, he'd be the 2nd coming of Bruce Bowen but wth better hair.
Ever since Renaldo Balkman came into the NBA, he's reminded me a lot of Shawn "The Matrix" Marion. That's why I call Balkman "The Matrix Reloaded!"
TVN:
DeleteOf course you'd make that trade, but why would Atlanta? Why would Atlanta give up their best or 2nd best player for a 1st round pick and a bunch of backups and contracts?
That's a pretty astute observation, Cara.
ReplyDeleteUnfollowing JR Smith is pretty understandable. That dude tweets about 100 times a day, all worthless garbage. Nobody wants that clutter in their twitter timeline.
Unfollowing Melo is an eyebrow raiser, since he doesn't tweet excessively. Heck, Lin is still following Charlie Bell. I think this is a pretty good indicator of what Lin thinks of Melo.
Yeah, I notice that Lin hardly sends out any Tweets, he's still at "Thanks Chandler Parsons, for helping me move to Houston." which was over a week ago. He's still stuck at 867,000 followers. His NFL counterpart, Tim Tebow, is hanging out with the celebrities in LA, donating to the families of the Aurora, shooting victims, and throwing footballs shirtless at Jets football camp. Yeah, Tebow loves being in the spotlight, but at least he uses it in a positive way.
DeleteI think that Lin and his agents need to do a better job of promoting his image. Perhaps his parents urge him to keep a low profile, or he just doesn't like the attention. Which is strange, because the better he plays, the more media coverage he will receive.
And it's not just attention that affects his game, but also public criticism. Anybody else notice that Lin seems to play significantly worse in front of hostile crowds, like in Miami and Dallas ? He plays a lot better when the crowd is cheering for him instead of against him.
That's not right. An athlete should not be letting the cameras and the words of critics to affect his game.
Knicks' Anthony says he was a 'true supporter' of Lin

JLin's nobody's fool, however.
JLin on Jim Rome interview:
http://www.jimrome.com/junglehighlights?uri=channels/465575/1687066
Had the chance to say "yes, I believe Melo wanted me back," but didn't. Still, very gracious, as always.
Melo: "I never told him not to play. What I did tell him, if he wasn’t ready to play in his own mind, then he shouldn’t force his body to play if he wasn’t ready."

http://espn.go.com/new-york/nba/story/_/id/8178617/stephen-smith-new-york-knicks-not-wait-jeremy-lin-great
That's the narrative they are selling.
I myself don't see anything "wrong" with SAS and Anthony's comments.
DeleteSince I've been raised on a steady diet.of physical violence, psychological intimidation, and racial warfare, I simply look at the SAS and the Knicks being unable to handle Lin doing things correctly. The result was that Lin got ejected from a bad situation into a good one.
In so many things in my life, I look back and am relieved that I was rejected even though it pained me to the soul when it happened. Jeremy Lin is young enough to be my son, so I'd give him a fatherly nod and send him on his merry way toward true superstardom in Houston.
I had to endure decades of total rejection before I could end up where I am now. I still don't have a highfalutin' life, but I have gotten myself to a point where rejection no longer truly affects my professional aspirations. I am nearly there in my personal life too!
Lin is wise to not "Tebow" himself.
DeleteI don't follow the NFL at all, but I believe that Lin should stick to being himself. He's a humble and slightly naive guy who focuses on the game.
Similarly, Lin does fine in front of hostile crowds. He was overly fatigued in Miami and was facing the Melo/Smith mutiny in Dallas. Now that Lin plays for a franchise owner that supports him, it's a totally different story with a totally different outcome. Jeremy Lin has played great in front of hostile crowds all his life.
This is the first time Jeremy Lin will have his own pro team to run. If he's anything like me, it'll be a walk in the park compared to constantly battle racists who simply refuse to believe that he can play.
Aha, that's very stoic...Kudos to you for finding the silver lining in all this.
DeleteStill doesn't make their lies about JLin acceptable.
JLin's a fierce competitor, I have no doubts he will, as you have, prevail.
Still, the injustice of it..!
[JLin unfollows Melo on Twitter, he knows the score.]
"... but I believe that Lin should stick to being himself. He's a humble and slightly naive guy who focuses on the game."
Delete- I was under the impression he's aware his 'naïveté' is part of his charm. Not that he's pretending, but that he actively guards against looking slick & packaged [unrelatable.]
Oh believe me, the lying and cheating against Lin by the Knicks is utterly despicable.
DeleteHowever, the Knicks made the biggest mistake I've ever seen them make when they essentially cut Lin this summer. I've seen the Knicks do a lot of insanely dumb things that set the franchise back for years, but cutting Lin has permanently hurt that franchise far more than people realize.
Similarly, I've been ejected and ejected. If Lin can learn to EMBRACE that like I have, he's gonna win big. Lin's gratefulness to Houston for being the only team that wanted him is going to reward Houston for being smart enough to embrace him.
Regarding Lin's number of followers, I am surprised that there is no jump since his move to Houston. I mean, what are those Rockets fans doing?!
DeleteDon't worry, Cara.
DeleteLin has to put on his Rockets jersey and play.
Let's all keep things in perspective here. Lin will be having his first training camp as a rotation regular with a team that actually wants him. He'll also play his first truly meaningful minutes, and I'm totally aware of his one game explosion in Golden State.
Once Rockets fans see Lin doing what Lin does, they'll embrace him. Besides, I'm not one of Lin's Twitter followers and I am one of his fans.
"Yeah, I notice that Lin hardly sends out any Tweets.."

Jeremy Lin has taken a short vacation from Twitter.
7:51 PM - 20 Jul 12
He doesn't need to please everyone or get into anyone good book. His priority now is concentrate on his physical and inprove on his overall game play and reduce his faults, that was his intention to shot down his doubters and haters.
DeleteDo you guys think that the media knows that Jeremy Lin unfollowed Carmelo and JR Smith?
DeleteI agree, think the Rockets need a legit starting wing player like Iguodala. I'd like to to see the Rockets get a better backup PG too.
ReplyDeleteBTW, here's a nice piece on Omer Asik's defensive game:
http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/film-session-omer-asik
There's not much choice left for guards. Some that are worth mentioning: Gilbert Arenas, Nate Robinson, Leandro Barbosa, T-Mac, Derek Fisher, Michael Redd and Jonny Flynn. I'd probably take Nate Robinson and Michael Redd(he's still a pretty good spot up shooter)
DeleteNow Scott Machado is saying that he doesn't want to sit behind Jeremy Lin.
DeleteMachado says that he had a better college career than Jeremy Lin. REALLY????
If Machado thinks that he can outdo the man that put up a historic start and led two different teams with PER, go ahead. I kinda doubt it, no "offense" to Machado.
I love how everybody talks trash about Lin in the papers in a way they never would if Lin wasn't Asian.
But at least Machado won't get bullied daily in practice by Lincumbent.
@KHuang
DeleteDo you have a link for where Machado said this? I think I saw the same thing but I forgot where.
Jeremy Lin doesn't impress Iona's Scott Machado
Deletehttp://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/jeremy-lin-impress-iona-scott-machado-playing-houston-rockets-summer-league-team-article-1.1124290
Just read the article.
DeleteAll I can do is laugh. I really hope Lin gets to go against Machado one way or another. Then, maybe Scottie will learn to show some respect to his superiors.
I remembered you mentioned Machado before, KHuang, in this site, about his BB skills.
DeleteBut it appears there is another jealous Melo/JR in the making in Machado.
Will he be signed by Houston?
* if yes, then the owner/GM's intention may be to use this competitor to drive Lin to work even harder
* if no, then I think the owner/GM really believe in Lin, and realize there is no point in bringing another JR-type guy into the team to ruin the team chemistry
I'll laugh with you guys, TVN and via.
DeleteI'll bet that players razz each other for "sitting behind an Asian guy". That's probably the worst possible affront in basketball, far worse than being dunked on by a white guy.
On the other hand, the Rockets already have two backups that are head and shoulders above Scott Machado. Earl Boykins at 5'5" is a gritty NBA veteran while Toney Douglas might find new life as Lin's backup in Houston.
I'd be surprised if Scott Machado made the NBA. His best chance of making a roster lies with Houston.
Undrafted rookie demanding starting position right out of the gate, that's just silly.
DeleteMachado might end up crying at practices.
Delete"I love how everybody talks trash about Lin in the papers in a way they never would if Lin wasn't Asian."
DeletePeople keep coming out of the woodwork, disrespecting.
Guys, honestly, it looks like the Machado comments are being taken out of context.
Delete“I feel like Jeremy Lin is a good player - nothing against his game - but I want to show my talent and be able to play there as well,” Machado said. “If I have to sit behind him for a little while then that’s fine, but hopefully one day I’ll be starting for an NBA team.”
“I feel like I’m in the same situation he was last year,” Machado said of Lin. “He was undrafted, ended up with a bunch of teams and ended up with the Knicks, and he ended up doing a good job with the Knicks. Now, he got a big contract and he’s an excellent player. I feel like he has a lot of talent, and he came from an underrated school, and he was able to show his talent. So I feel I’ll be able to do that as well.”
Sounds to me like he is less of an anti-Asian bigot and more of a guy who doesn't want to sit on the bench and aspires to be a starting NBA point guard. But hey, produce all these quotes from young guys who claim that they'll be happy be benchwarmers and have no aspirations of being a starter, or of competing for a starting job. Show me those quotes, and the players that made them, and I will certainly know who I won't want on any team that I root for, and neither should you.
The NBA always has been and always will be a league filled with guys who think that they're the best and want to play. That is not going to change just because Jeremy Lin is in it now.
Nope.
DeleteScott Machado's quotes are being read at face value.
He thinks he's better than Jeremy Lin, he would rather sit behind other point guards than Lin, and he's also smart enough to realize that he CAN'T beat out Jeremy Lin. That's why Scott Machado is shopping around for training camp opportunities.
Like I said, nobody wants to be athletically punked by an Asian guy. It is the most serious stain on one's masculinity in anti Asian America. That's why this fool Machado would rather sit behind other players than take his chances making this Rockets team that he has a legimate shot at making.
KHuang:
Delete"If I have to sit behind him for a little while then that’s fine, but hopefully one day I’ll be starting for an NBA team.”
"It would be fun for a while [backing Lin up], but I wouldn’t like it. I’d want to play."
"Now, he got a big contract and he’s an excellent player. I feel like he has a lot of talent"
Pardon me, but in what way were you taking his words at face value? You weren't. You totally ignored most of his comments, and took others wildly out of context.
"That's why this fool Machado would rather sit behind other players than take his chances making this Rockets team that he has a legimate shot at making."
Excuse me, but where did Machado say that, or even imply that? He didn't. He didn't say that he didn't want to be a backup in Houston, but he would be fine with being a backup someplace else. Instead, he said exactly the opposite. He said that he wanted to be the starter of his own team.
And yes, Machado is looking around, considering offers from other teams. So ... Jeremy Lin had the right to do that when he was the Knicks' starting point guard and had a $28.8 million offer sheet in hand, but this guy doesn't have the right to look around to see which team is offering him the best situation? The Rockets are shaky at PG behind Lin now but for all we know they could sign a pair of veteran PGs before training camp and Machado be out on the street. But if there is some team out there that is promising to develop him by sending him to D-league or overseas for a couple of years or something like that, then of course that is a better offer, a better situation and he should take it. You know as well as I do that being invited to some team's summer league is practically meaningless, and that the vast majority of those summer league invites never make the rosters of the teams that signed them.
It's IGNORANT of Machado to say that he and Jeremy Lin were in the same situation as undrafted rookies.
DeleteMachado isn't a California State High School player of the Year and State Champion who received ZERO full ride scholarships because he was Asian. He hasn't had opponents taunting him on the court for being Asian. He hasn't been the physical target of intimidation from opponents trying to avoid being Linbarrassed by the Asian guy. He wasn't playing for an Ivy League school alongside other players deemed not good enough to earn athletic scholarships.
No, Scott Machado's situation is the OPPOSITE of Lin's.
That said, I want Scott Machado to play his way onto an NBA roster if he's good enough. What doubts I have about his athleticism and game have absolutely nothing to do with his race or quotations about Lin.

Come on guys! I am Jeremy's biggest fan but read the whole article. The writer was trying to set him up and he wouldn't bite! He did not say he was better than Lin. He made ONE questionable. Comment in that he has a bad college career.
DeleteHe said he would not mind being on the bench but wanted to run his own NBA team some day.
@vmax71:
DeleteI said the same thing above. And Machado didn't even say that Lin had a bad college career. Machado just agreed with the reporter when he said that Machado had a better college career than Lin did.
Machado also agreed with a reporter who suggested he probably had a better college career than Lin, who played at Harvard.
“He’s shown what he could do, and like you said, I had a better college career than he did,”
What was Machado supposed to do? Trash his own college career in order to make Lin fans feel happy?
"He’s more of a scorer, and I’m more of a real point guard."
This actually are his sentiments.
"It would be fun for a while [backing Lin up], but I wouldn’t like it. I’d want to play. It’s a business and they’re going to do what they’re going to do.”
Oooh, wow. He is this huge anti-Asian bigot for wanting to play instead of being happy riding the bench. As if riding the pine behind Lin is supposed to be this great honor or something. If he is happy being a benchwarmer for anybody whether that person is black, white, Asian, green, blue or whatever, then a benchwarmer is all he will ever be.
Granted, Machado is likely overestimating his own talent. But that is preferable to coming into the NBA all humble and deferential and not lasting through first cuts.
Well, talk doesn't really matter.
DeleteAnd if Scott Machado can come onto the Rockets and outplay Jeremy Lin, then Machado should start.
I'm worried about Scott Machado being able to defend his position and finish at the rim. It doesn't matter what comes out of his mouth if he's incapable of doing those two things at an NBA level.
@Adam:
DeleteAnd the media should care about Jeremy Lin unfollowing Melo on Twitter why, exactly? With the Olympics going on, baseball coming down the stretch, NFL training camps opening, and college football right around the corner, don't you think that they have more pressing things to talk about?

Delete@KHuang:
DeleteIf you read the article again and use a different contextual filter than "Jeremy Lin gets no respect", Scott Machado has already conceded being Jeremy Lin's backup for now. All he said was that some day he wanted more out of his NBA career than being Jeremy Lin's backup. That really is all he said. Even the things that he said where he was making negative comparisons between Lin and himself, i.e. his having a better college career than Lin and his being a true point guard was his justifying why he thinks that he can be a starting NBA point guard one day. If Machado can't make that case to himself, or to a reporter for some New York tabloid, then there is a good chance that he won't be able to make it on the basketball court either.
You've been following professional sports long enough to know that rookies don't come into the league all star-struck. They come in looking to challenge people, take jobs and earn spots. Guys aren't going to change that mindset just because it is Jeremy Lin that they'll be competing against instead of another black player.
Friggin please, Hater Unknown.
DeleteScott Machado said that he's a better college player than Lin was (NOT!!!)
He also said that he'd be unhappy backing up Jeremy Lin. All the excuses you make won't change that reality.
Scott Machado would rather back up a black player than be forever razzed for backing up Jeremy Lin. Never mind that Jeremy Lin is the biggest, meanest, gamiest, and punkiest player at his position in today's NBA.
Scott Machado can come into camp and take Jeremy Lin's job if he can. Then nobody will make fun of him the way the US Olympic team has been razzing Carmelo Anthony for having Jeremy Lin as "his" point guard.
@KHuang:
DeleteAgain with the name-calling. Scott Machado said that he had a better college career than Lin only in response to the reporter suggesting it first. What was Machado supposed to do? Tell the reporter "I am sorry, but Lin had a better college career than I did"?
"Scott Machado would rather back up a black player than be forever razzed for backing up Jeremy Lin."
Where is the evidence that Machado believes this? It is not based on what Machado said. Machado said in that piece "backing up Lin will be fun for now" and "I want my own NBA team." That is what he said, KHuang.
And what on earth does Machado have to do with Melo? Are all black NBA players Melo to you KHuang?
Hater Unknown, you're just here clutching at straws to start racial fights.
DeletePut it this way: Scott Machado isn't saying anything about beating out Toney Douglas. And Carmelo Anthony is not being razzed for having Baron Davis as his point guard.
You insist on a double standard that allows Lin and his supporters to be flamed on basis of race. That makes you a FLAMING RACIST. Thus you have a big problem not just with me or Asians here, but people of ALL COLORS.

I just re-read the article's quotes. It seems pretty clear to me on the following:
ReplyDelete(1) He's trying to ride on the coattails of Jlin's successes and attempting to get his name out there..."“I feel like I’m in the same situation he was last year,” Machado said of Lin. “He was undrafted, ended up with a bunch of teams and ended up with the Knicks...."
I don't know how good he's going to be as a basketball player, but in my opinion, he lacks the character and humbleness we all like so much about Jlin. Why even bother making a comparison with Jlin at this point in his career other than to promote his own agenda? He's proven nothing at all other than he's an undrafted point guard from a small school..believe me there are thousands of these.
"Why even bother making a comparison with Jlin at this point in his career other than to promote his own agenda?"
DeleteBecause A) he is going to Houston to play on Lin's team on Lin's position, making the comparison between Lin and himself a natural, relevant story and B) because the reporter was leading him on.
Even if he is trying to ride on Lin's coattails, so what. Anything that gets him a foot in the door. Besides, don't the commenters on this site frequently talk about how Lin will open doors for Asians in professional sports? Wouldn't those guys be riding Lin's coattails as well? So, only Asians are supposed to be able to walk through those doors but nobody else? In any event, it looks like Machado was using Lin as a role model and inspiration ... if Lin made it from a small school, so can I. As a matter of fact, that is EXACTLY what he said.
So I feel I’ll be able to do that as well.” Pardon me, but who else should this guy compare himself to but the last undrafted point guard to get a $25 million dollar contract? More to the point, why should he compare himself to anyone else but Jeremy Lin?
And it seems like you have a different definition of character and humility than I do.
Let Machado come in.
DeleteIf he can outplay Jeremy Lin who has been a league statistical leader in several different categories since he was a rookie, then Machado deserves to talk big about starting.
If not, then Scott Machado simply gets added to Jeremy Lin's growing graveyard of punk'd players whose mouths were bigger than their game.
Personally, I think it's bad character and bad humility for an undrafted player to talk about being unhappy about backing up a highly producing star like Jeremy Lin. But that's OK, Linstructor will school him provided that Machado even shows up to class.
KHuang:
DeleteFor the fourth or fifth time, you are attributing comments to Machado that Machado never said. And I still say that anyone who is happy being a backup is someone that you don't want on the Rockets. You go root for teams with happy, contended backups, and let me root for teams whose backups are working and driving to be starters, and let's check back at the end of the season to see whose set of teams win more games.
Flameboy Unknown, Scott Machado would have never opened that mouth of his to say that he is better than Lin if Lin weren't Asian.
DeleteHe didn't open that trap of his talking about Earl Boykins who he'd have to beat out for a roster spot, did he? NAHHH.
@Unknown,
DeleteYou remind me of Steve Jobs because of your ability to create a reality distortion field...it's awesome, but I commend you for living in your own world. I'm sitting here laughing at my computer as I read your spaghetti logic. I'm still unclear on whether Machado's comments were subtle racism, a reporter egging him on, or just him being cocky which is the most likely scenario. If you are going to be a Lin hater, you better be prepared with backing up your points with solid logical statistical reasoning and not your flawed logic.
First of all, your points contradict themselves. You mention in an earlier posting that it's fair for Machado to compare Lin with his career. Machado is arrogant and it shows-he says "I had a better college career than he did He’s more of a scorer, and I’m more of a real point guard. It would be fun for a while [backing Lin up], but I wouldn’t like it." This to me is clear cut, and can't be manipulated or taken out of context. He thinks he's better than Lin period. @Unknown, please find me a situation where Jlin HAS EVER SAID ANYTHING THAT COCKY EVER ABOUT ANY PLAYER EVER!!!! You took a jab at me stating that my definition of character and humility is different then yours- I totally agree.
Here's where you really contradict yourself. It sounds to me that you agree that Machado is making a name for himself by latching onto Lin in the press. Did Jlin ever try to make a name for himself EVER by latching onto someone? Did he ever make a comparison with Nash--- he should have many times to get his name out (other players have said that about him) before he exploded. It actually sounds like you agree with me on this...thanks! It's really seedy to latch onto a different person that you dont' know just to be successful- it's extremely Machiavellian (look it up in the dictionary).
Last, but not least, I'm not sure what you are talking about with Asians riding the coattails of Jlin's successes. It make about zero sense to me and I don't understand it at all. It sounds like you have a serious axe to grind with Asians....that's all I can think of. @Unknown, people are just people man get over it. Racism is alive and well, but when you think about it, try and count how many people of your own race that you exactly dislike- you might be surprised.
Yi Jianlian just dropped 30 and 12 on Spain in the Olympics. Maybe Morey should give him a call. Wouldn't be a bad get for the vet minimum.
ReplyDeleteI like Yi but he is not that good. Trust me I saw his games in Milwaukee with the team supporting him and hoping he'd become something. He had his chances in the nba to make it and couldn't show he was more than a role player. Yi wouldn't even fit in with the rockets youth movement locker room. Maybe Yi works if they get a legit star big man down the line and more worldly vets on the team first. They need some guys like turiaf or Tyson chandler type personalities on the team for locker room leadership & chemistry purposes.
DeleteI agree with some of the comments machados comments were out of line. But I don't know they were totally race driven. I think machado would have said his comments even if it was a guy like Charles Jenkins exploding off the bench and got the big contract instead of Lin.
ReplyDeleteHowever no doubt players and people don't accept Lin yet and don't believe he is for real. Lin will have to live up to his contract and more for the talks to go away and before people finally come around to the fact Lin is just extraordinarily good. So much has to happen, even if Lin has talent, has body will need to hold up. We will see....
Carmelo's Olympic teammates ARE clowning Carmelo btw. That is true. I saw the clip of Chris Paul talking some bs about how the 92 dream team made it possible for foreign players to become competitive now in 2012. Then Paul says now guys like Lin can play in the nba because of that and become the Knicks point guard. Carmelo somewhat sheepishly tells Paul to shut up about that and Paul, knowing more info about the situation than he lets on, says to Carmelo "what he is your point guard right?". They both already knew Lin wasn't coming back to e knicks and that was before the Knicks didn't match.....
I say that his comments were neither out of line or race driven. Instead, they are routine comments made by guys who aspire to be professional athletes all the time. And I say again, let the guys who are willing to tell their hometown newspaper how great spending their NBA careers as benchwarmers is and about how being somebody's backup is all they want out of their careers go play for somebody else. If happy, satisfied benchwarmers are the sort of guys that you want playing with Jeremy Lin, then Lin isn't going to win very many games.
DeleteI agree with you. I think people on the forum just don't like the way machado made those comments, They showed lack of Humility, sophistication, and short sightedness. Did James Harden tell the media he is way better than thabo s.? Nope. I have no problem with the mindset, but the way it was said. And because it was said in the way it was said, the sensitive Lin fans here feels it may have been based on a lack of respect for Lin, and the biggest elephant in the room is lin's ethnicity.....it may be the wrong analysis however.
DeleteI don't have problems with machado at all. He just didn't have to compare himself to Lin. A smart guy would have been more humble or just avoided comparisons to Lin and sidestepped the question like most nba guys do.
swinglinezigzag:
DeleteYou say that he didn't have to compare himself to Lin. I say that there is no reason to avoid the comparison. For one thing, the reporter egged him on. Another, it is logical and natural for a guy to compare himself to the last guy in his situation that made good. Wanting people not to compare themselves with Lin, to not try to compete with Lin, is wanting people to put Lin on a pedestal, and to treat him differently than every other NBA player. That isn't going to happen. The NBA is the best - or among the best - basketball players in the world trying to make a living. They aren't going to let anybody be untouchable because their very livelihoods depend on getting out there and competing with the best to be the best.
So, if Anthony Machado had better college stats than Lin, there isn't a thing wrong with his saying so. And if Machado feels that he is more of a true PG and Lin is a combo guard, and that is something that gives him an edge or advantage in being an NBA starter somewhere down the line, again let him say it.
If you are going to blame anybody, blame the reporter for egging him on. And I actually credit Machado. Remember: these newspaper stories are heavily edited. We have no idea the nonsense that the reporter threw out there for Machado to respond to in order to try to generate some controversy, to get a story. Even when Machado did take the bait, he was very respectful of Lin's ability and performance in doing so. He said that Lin was a great player for the Knicks. He said that Lin had a lot of talent and was an excellent player. He said that backing up Lin and playing with Lin would be good and a lot of fun. He said all those positive things about Lin despite a sensationalist tabloid reporter doing his best to bait him. But it seems like people only want to focus on the negative - including inventing things that Machado never actually said - instead of focusing on the positive. Machado is no Melo, and he certainly is no Stephen A. Smith. Machado sees Lin as a great player, and a guy in whose footsteps Machado wants to follow. If you think that Machado shouldn't even aim that high and try to set his sights lower, then well then pardon Machado for disagreeing.
That's what I like about lin; he was not cocky even after he gain a degree of hype in ny, he isconcentrating on improving himself rather than promoting how good he is.
DeleteI think Chris Paul is the best point in the nba and so does j Lin. But I know Paul is the kind of guy who lacks respect for Lin, both for his skills and because he is Asian. But Paul is so good and confident he respects no one. I hope one day soon Lin can earn his respect and own Paul on the court. Paul is kinda dirty so I can see Paul injuring Lin if Lin is killing him on the court.
ReplyDeleteCP and Melo is buddies right; rumoured KNICKS intend to go for CP next year and LIN was part of the trade off?!
DeleteIf that is true, then the third year $15 million poison pill shouldn't have stopped Knicks from signing Lin.
Delete@_ScottMachado This is his twitter. let's bomb him, he need to learn who's the boss. undrafted and had the nerve to say he didn't want to sit behind Lin?? wtf?? he'll be lucky to be a 3rd string!
ReplyDeleteMachado never said that he didn't want to sit behind Lin. He only said that he didn't want to be a backup. He also said that backing up Lin would be good and fun for now. If you go Twitter bomb Machado, please do it based on what Machado actually said.
Delete“If I have to sit behind him for a little while then that’s fine, but hopefully one day I’ll be starting for an NBA team.”
"It would be fun for a while [backing Lin up], but I wouldn’t like it. I’d want to play."
That is what he said. No go Twitter bomb him for not wanting to spend his entire NBA career as a backup, because that is exactly what you'd be doing.
u do know this is a Lin's fan forum right?? GTFO!!
DeleteYou need to stop defending him. What the hell does "a little while" mean? He makes it sound like he plans on starting over Lin within the season. That second comment is even worse. Why is he talking like he will be battling Lin for the PG position and minutes? Jeremy is the starter while Marchado isn't even officially on the team yet. It shows a level of disrespect for someone who is undrafted, hasn't officially made a team, hasn't even secured a backup position or otherwise guaranteed himself any minutes to be talking about how it would be okay to sit behind the starting PG for a little while but he would still like to play. He needs to worry about Tony Douglas and getting on the team before he opens his mouth about Jeremy.
Delete77am:
DeleteYes, and I am a Jeremy Lin fan. If I wasn't a Jeremy Lin fan, I wouldn't be here, and I certainly wouldn't care about what is going on with the Houston Rockets, which is the #3 basketball franchise in a state that only really cares about football and baseball. The difference between you and me is that I can be a fan of Jeremy Lin without hating every other player in the NBA. And if that bothers you, then you be the one to get out.
@777am,
DeleteThere's absolutely no need for that. I didn't like what Machado said, but anyone who wastes their time bombing the guy's Twitter needs to get a life.
lin nimal:
DeleteI am not defending Machado. I am only stating what Machado actually said when everyone else on here is talking about what they think that Machado said or what they want to believe that Machado said.
And you are doing it again. "Why is he talking like he will be battling Lin for the PG position and minutes?"
He never said that. He said the opposite.
And no, it is not disrespectful. It is how professional athletes routinely talk. The guy isn't coming to the Rockets to bask in the glory that is Linsanity. He is coming to the Rockets to make a living. And that is what rookies always do no matter the sport, no matter the team, no matter the player that they will be backing up.
It is the NBA, and Jeremy Lin is an NBA player.
unknown
Deleteno you're not a fan!! i'm pretty sure about that. you've been defending all those people who's disrespected Jeremy. from Stephen A, Melo, JR, and now Machado. Seriously you need to get out!! i bet you're not asian right? moderator please ban those anti-Lin. This is a forum of a die hard Lin's fan and all your posts always created negative arguments. This is not the place man!! This is a place where we share our love for Lin and berate our anger to those who done him wrong.
"It would be fun for a while [backing Lin up], but I wouldn’t like it. I’d want to play."
DeleteIf he wants to play then he needs to focus on Tony Douglas who already has a guaranteed contract. Instead he's talking about how it would fun to backup Jeremy Lin for a little while but he wouldn't like it.
from as long as what I have been seeing here, everybody here is a big Jeremy fans. I really don't find any offensive words or have that feeling from what Machado said. nevertheless,it should not be something big we should concern. I think less media is good for Jeremy now, that's why he seems a little quite either on twitter or in the news. He need some break. so let's give this guy a break and stop making all the noise for him again. we don't need to pinpoint any potential enemy jlin is getting. Just support him. Just shout out love from us fans to him whenever he play.
Delete777am, not only asians are Jlin's big fans. let's welcome all fans from all ethnicity. I am not defending for unknown, but everybody has different perspective of looking at things. I'll say all of us from here are Jlin's supporter.
Delete777am:
DeleteWhere did I ever defend Stephen A. Smith? Show me. And I defended JR Smith? When and how? And yes I defended Melo when I said that a 5 time all star 9 year NBA vet was perfectly justified in wanting his own team and not having to play second fiddle to a newbie. I say that whether that newbie is Jeremy Lin, the #1 pick in the draft or anybody. And like I said, I like Jeremy Lin, but unlike you, I like other NBA players too, and the NBA itself. I'd still be following the NBA and rooting for teams and players had Jeremy Lin chosen to pursue being an NFL quarterback instead. Would you?
lin nimal:
Machado said that he wouldn't want to back up anybody because he wants to be a starter. He doesn't want to back up Chris Paul. He doesn't want to back up Derrick Rose. He doesn't want to back up Steve Nash. He doesn't want to back up Deron Williams. He doesn't want to back up Russell Westbrook. He doesn't want to back up Rajon Rondo. He doesn't want to back up anybody because he wants to start.
Geesh ...
we should all remember one thing is that media has the power to twisting things around. If I were a NBA player, I wouldn't want to be a back up all the times too. He's a rookie, he just said what he thinks on his mind. Maybe even Machado is surprising to see how the headline and the story turn out offensive to Jlin too. Just notice some news about Kevin Durant's twitter to an NBA writer about James Harden.
Deletelin nimal
Deletei totally agree with you. people always tried to avoid the race argument when it comes to Lin. but it's freaking fact that people disrespected him because of his race. sometimes i'm smh when my fellow Asians tried to play down this issue. seriously how long have u been an asian?? just recently?? a lot of asians are trying hard to avoid discrimination, and thus they turned against there owns. white-washed asian girls are a prime example. it's sad man, it's f*ck*ng sad.
We support Lin not only cause he's asian, it goes well beyond that. Why do most asian males support Lin? Cause we went through the same struggle he did!! no one would understand, except us asian dudes. no one was a bigger supporter of Lin than us asian dudes!!
lydia lien
DeleteYou really think Marchado would have said the same thing if he was trying to get on a team with Deron Williams /Derrick Rose/Steve Nash as the starting PG? Get out of here. You are not a Jeremy Lin fan at all, just a troll obsessed with defending Jeremy Lin's haters.
lin nimal:
DeleteI can't speak for Lydia Lien, but speaking for myself, yes I do. Why? Because rookies do it all the time in every sport. It is a long known cliche ... brash arrogant rookie who needs to be put in his place. They even make movies about it. Like the backup QB in "Any Given Sunday." Tom Cruise's character in "Days Of Thunder." Even Lightning McQueen in "Cars", a kid's Disney movie. For you guys to take something that has been common to professional sports for decades and claim that it is only uniquely being directed towards Jeremy Lin because he is Asian, it is not only factually incorrect, but terribly unfair to the people that are being falsely accused of being bigots. And in this case, Machado is getting ripped for saying something THAT HE NEVER ACTUALLY SAID. I just went back and read the article again, and everything anti-Lin in that article came from the reporter. None of Machado's own comments were anti-Lin or negative towards Lin in any fashion.
unknown
Deletethis is not the place to defend those who disrespected Lin. from your tone you sounded like you're not asian right? if not, then you've made your point. just like any other non asian, you won't understand. so please kindly leave this forum and never come back. seriously you don't want a race war in here. just leave!!
@777am:
DeleteYou are the only one threatening a race war. So you be the one to leave. I may not understand being Asian, but I understand sports, which I have been following my whole life. As for you, I wonder if you ever followed the NBA or any sport before Lin. If that is the case, then there is nothing wrong with that. Plenty of people never paid any attention to golf before Tiger Woods. But don't pretend as if routine behavior by professional athletes amounts to anti-Asian bigotry, because when you do, you either reveal yourself to be a crank who is just as big a bigot as the people that you are accusing, or someone who really doesn't know squat about pro (or even big time college) sports.
Lol....lin nimal, I don't think Jlin wants to see a irrational fan like you. all I can say is I understand what you are saying and why you react that way. and 777am, i am also an asian like you, a Chinese-american,but not a abc. I certainly understand your defense for the racism thing and why you angry here. what I am try to do here is provide my reasonable thoughts. If you say others such as stephen A smith or Larry Brown being racist toward Jlin, i will agree with you. but from what he said in the sentence I really don't find it a racist thing or his offensive to Jlin. I definitely agree with you that JLin's race is one of the reasons why he get different treatment from the NBA players, but that dosn't mean EVERYTHING is related to his race, I just want to be a rational fan of Jlin. AND PLEASE, PEOPLE DON'T AGREE WITH YOUR COMMENT, YOU SAID THEY ARE NOT TRUE FANS AND ASK PEOPLE TO LEAVE? SO YOU WANT ASIANS TO BE THE ONLY FANS OF JLIN? PLEASE, U DON'T WANT TO SEE JLIN JUST TO GET SUPPORTERS FROM ASIANS ONLY. MOST PEOPLE LOVE HIM JUST SIMPLY BECAUSE HE IS A GREAT ENDEAVOR GUY AND A GREAT PLAYER TO WATCH. LIKE OTHERS SAID HERE HE TRANSCEND THE RACE BIAS.
Deleteand even deep in his mind, he is thinking himself better than Jlin, there is nothing wrong about it.He just better confident about himself that's his thing. JLIN DOSN'T CARE ABOUT THAT. DO YOU GUYS GET IT? JlIN ONLY CARE IF HE IMPROVES HIMSELF.why should we bashing on somebody who is overconfident of himself? AND MAKING US LIKE LITTLE SENSITIVE RACISM VICTIM?
Deleteunknown
Deletesigh that's why you're being so defensive? LOL as i said you've shown your true color even before you reveal yourself. most of non asian have always been defensive when it come to discrimination against asian and you are no different. sport knowledge?? SMH you don't need to be an expert to know that Lin have been disrespected by many because of his race. btw i've been following nba for almost 20 years, penny hardaway and t-mac are my favorite players and the last time i checked they're still black. in all those years i follow the nba, i never saw such a talented and humble dude being hated so much except Yao Ming and Jeremy Lin. Tell me it had nothing to do with race??
seriously i won't be having this argument with my fellow asians in this forum, it's already a common knowledge among us asian and that's why
when you bring those argument with that tone of yours, i could exactly pointed out that you're not asian. stop being so defensive, this is a Lin's fan forum and 99% fans here are asian!! you should know your place before you open your mouth!! you wouldn't act like a smart ass in an all black neighborhood would you?? this is an asian hood!! you better show some respect outsider!!
I think its enough of the arguments! let's call it a quit and make a peaceful environment. :)! I believe unknown didn't have the intend to insult anybody or disrespect anybody here. Lets not make the bias go even further and try to embrace everybody with different opinion!
DeleteNo. I won't quit.
DeleteI am an Asian American male who is hated on by American society and the hateful racist media. I DO NOT ACCEPT people flaming Lin or me because of our race.
Hater Unknown has deliberately trying to disrespect Lin and other Asian males for months. He has tried to portray me as an anti African American hater, which is EVILL WRONG because many of my closest friends are African American and have my back.
I am not going to sit here quietly and make excuses for Hater Unknown and other racists trying to punk Lin and his Asian fans. I will fight it with all my might because it's RIGHT.
I learned long ago not to tolerate people who hate me because of my race. BRING IT ON, RACISTS!!!
hell no!! he need to apologize or get out of this forum!! i've been here since Jeremy was drafted and i know who's the haters in this forum. i can smell from miles away with the tone he spoke that he's not asian!! no asians would spoke with that tone!! this is not just about him defending Machado. This "unknown" guy is a Lin hater, he just doesn't come all out. Ask the KHuang and all the regulars in here. GTFO!
DeletePeople come to this forum to share their support and love for Jeremy and is also the place to share some of the frustration that Jeremy have been treated as an Asian. So for someone like "unknown" to come and hating on Lin is unacceptable. We don't want to have these sort of arguments in here. If you want you can go to ESPN NY for that or the NY daily!! That's why we need to kick this 'unknown" guy out!!

unknown is not asian.
@Unknown, @Jubeininja69, @lydia lien - I believe KHuang is intelligent, but emotionally unstable. The best advice I can give to you and anyone else on this thread is to ignore his comments.
DeleteAs a former debater and television reporter, I've been trained to look at both sides of the story. KHuang will make his points/arguments, but if someone calls him out on inaccuracies, reading between the lines and portraying them as fact, or just disagrees with him, rather than acknowledge his clear mistake, he attacks the user and turns the argument around into something different that cannot be argued/defended effectively. For instance, "@Unknown Hater is a racist, is anti-Jeremy Lin" etc.
It's similar to what many politicians employ. During the Iraq War, if you opposed the war, all of a sudden you became, "unpatriotic... don't support our troops."
@KHuang spends an unhealthy amount of time on this site, and I do think there is a good chance @777am is the same person. In fact, I stopped coming to this site, because I got into a similar, unfounded race-bating argument that he instigated. I come here because I want to learn about new things going on with Jeremy Lin and to support him. Not get into heated arguments with someone who is emotionally unstable and brings a lot of "hate" and "revenge" towards guys like "Scott Machado" or others.
From what he has stated in the past, he obviously has been picked on extensively because of his race. It's not uncommon for someone who went through such extreme emotional abuse and distress, to formulate all of their thoughts and arguments with the same underlying principles (even if it's unconscious). For me, I stopped reading the comments about a year ago, because KHuang has consistently ruined them for me. So, please, don't bait him. Just ignore him. Hopefully the editors of the site will switch the comment board over to Facebook comments, which has proven to clean up much of the discussions on other blogs and sites.
This is getting OLD. If you think Macado is being a racist, then go talk about it on some racism victimization forum.
DeleteI agree most of the things unknown said! and 777am I think you need to calm down a little bit.I think some of you are taking it as a big deal out of this. Even Jlin won't mind what Machado said. if you go bomb his twitter you gonna make Jlin looks bad. also. we should not follow what the medias put out then we will be like the other knicks fans who believe what the medias puts out about lin. we should read the lines carefully like unknown said and try to find out the truth. we should not making every players like they are enemy of Jlin.
ReplyDeleteAll Jlin needs is support from his fans. I don't think he wants to see his fans go bomb other player's twitter like that. Let just focus on Jeremy and Houston. I also did notice he unfollow Jr smith and Melo like one week after he sign the Houston offer. I am glad for this move. But I don't think it's big deal media or us should make out of it. It's good now that he learn who is his real friends who is not. I am glad to see him moving on.

DeleteAs JLin fans, let's not become a group of haters. JLin will prove himself on the courts this season.
@RioFan:
DeleteYours is the best comment all day. My only caveat: Lin has already proven himself. In my opinion, his finding a way to lead a tired Knicks team to a win against a playoff contender on a night when his shot wasn't falling and his knee was obviously bothering him was even more impressive than his 38 points against the Lakers. But this season, Lin will make it a whole lot harder to continue to adhere to the belief that he is a D-League player and other nonsense.
Lin has the talent. He just needs a full training camp to develop chemistry with his team, work on his jumpshot (Which he's doing) and a full healthy season to play his A-game.
DeleteAs what he said, there always be hater and doubters out there; it will be waste of time, energy and brain cell contradict and reiterate all the criticism unles it is necessasy or if the attack is on his mother or family.
DeleteAgree.
DeleteWe are purely die-hard Lin supporters (NOT anti-Lin haters).
We are here:
* to wish Lin gets stronger and tougher.
* to pray for his wisdom to lead the team, and make every players around him better and even best.
* to pray that his new teammates and he develop great friendship/chemistry just like him and Landry/Jeffries.
Lin personality is one of the reasons why we admire/love him. Let's be as classy as the person we support.
PERFECTLY SAID, HY! EXACTLY THE KIND OF FANS AND ENVIRONMENT I WANT TO SEE BUILD AROUND JLIN AND US, "FANS".
DeleteWell, I am a HATER of those who hate Asians like me because of my name and skin color.
DeleteAll my life, I've had to fight jerks like Hater Unknown who consider it their birthright to attack (usually physically) me because they feel racially superior to me. Let me tell y'all from experience that PLAYING NICE DOESN'T WORK.
The way to beat the racists is to CRUSH THEM. They come after you, embarrass them and punk them. They still won't respect you, but they'll know better than to get hurt.
The racists want us Asians to play nice so they can attack with impunity. Hater Unknown is trying to tell us that it's OK for Scott Machado and Carmelo Anthony and other haters to flame Lin openly. It's WRONG and should be called out.
I'm now in Asian Al Sharpton mode. I admire Al Sharpton for his courage in defending the black community, and I feel that we Asians need our own Rev Al Sharpton to denounce those who would denounce us.
Then why don't YOU go embarrass or crush them whatever and not have Jeremy do the dirty work for you.
DeleteThat's exactly what I'm doing by crushing YOU, Etane.
DeleteLike the good lil' RACIST you are, you belittle my actions because you think I'm so cowardly that I have to stand behind Lin.
I don't need Jeremy Lin to stand on you, punk. Bring it on and I'll Al Sharpton you more.
Seriously, you guys are getting strung along by the New York Daily News ... which is known to be heavily biased against Jeremy Lin.
ReplyDelete1. Scott Machado did not anytime say he was better than Lin, he merely implied that he's a passing PG, while Lin is more of a scoring PG.
How many passing PG are starting for NBA teams ? ... Not many. The greatest NBA PG's: Nash, Paul, D-Will, Rondo, Westbrook, D-Rose are all looking to penetrate and score. Nash used to be a prolific scorer until he got older and slower.
Machado is not good at scoring or playing defense, so he makes up for it with his passing ... that's his "game".
2. He said he wants to be a starter someday soon ... Who doesn't want to be a starter in the NBA? Starters get more minutes and get paid ALOT more than a bench player.
3. He said he may not join the Rockets because he has other teams looking to sign him. If he does join another team, he will most certainly play as a backup PG.
4. He's a Knicks fan, not a Jeremy Lin fan during the Linsanity era. Most of the old school fans who've been following the Knicks would say the same, they are fans of their team first and foremost. Not the individual players who come and go. Long time Knicks fans have been burned before by Starbury, Eddy Curry, Zach Randolph, etc. they know not to fall in love with any one player.
The Daily News has been anti-Jeremy Lin ever since the Knicks leaked that "Lin is becoming a prima donna" story to them. The Daily News seems to have been using Machado as part of their hatchet job against Lin. So many things in that article, including the very title, were directly contradicted by Machado's own quotes. I wish it were possible to sue reporters and papers for outright distorting stuff like that. Thanks to this story Machado is going to be hated and rooted against by Lin fans for no reason, due to no fault of his own.
DeleteNY POST/ DAILY are the honcho of someone else; they.are just finding explosive issue to write; why not killing 2 birds with one stone by adding fuel to fire and at the same time selling news and promoting themselves? Ignore them, especially Mr S
DeleteYeah, it's really pathetic how hard these newspapers are trying to trash JLin. They barely have any dirt on him. He doesn't do many interviews or says anything bad about anyone else. But they try in vain to distort whatever little tidbits of information they have.
DeleteLike if Lin says, "I had a decent relationship with Melo. Could have been better." the press will make it sound like, "JLin hated Melo, and his selfish, greedy, ego made him leave for the Houston Rockets."
But at least now, we can see how obvious the lies are. If they were doing it to someone like Kristen Stewart or Kobe , you would totally believe it, because some people are easy targets for the media.
Lin is not an easy target, which is why it's so funny to see people attack him.
The SPOKEN, not unspoken, rule in the NBA is that you don't come out and say that you're better than another guy whose team you are going to join.
ReplyDeleteBut because it's Jeremy Lin who's an Asian, Hater Unknown feels that its his racial birthright to allow people like Machado to break that overt rule. It's a SHAMEFUL ANTI ASIAN DOUBLE STANDARD that Hater Unknown is wilfully propagating.
As far as I'm concerned, all these guys like Machado and Anthony and Hater Unknown who hate Lin and his fans can do that. The reason guys learn quickly in the NBA to respect other players is that hating on other players in the media comes back to haunt guys on and off the court.
Hater Unknown hates Lin and his fans for being Asian, and that's why he is angry with us for calling out Machado for talking smack in the media.
This is THE racial issue that caused Hater Unknown to angrily denounce Lin as being unworthy of being NBA worthy out of college while the lesser performing but nonAsian Scott Machado is.
People of all colors, rise up against Hater Unknown and his racist double standards. Don't let him hate on Asians so that he can feel racially superior to us.
He didn't say he was better. He just said he's a different type of player, like a pass first point guard. He also said he wants to be a starter someday.
DeleteDon't let the newspaper title warp your mind. It's written by a biased news writer.
He said he was a better college player. That IS saying that he's better than Lin.
DeleteThe media hates Asian males. My mind is too UNWARPED to ever accept it.
Huang, I like your posts in general but when you talk about racial issues, you become very irrational just like 777am and lin nimal above. I read other posts from unknown before to know that unknown is a lin fan, not a hater that you claim.
DeleteKHuang, he didn't say he was a better college player. The article says that the reporter suggested it to him, and then Machado would either have to say yes or no. The reporter came up with that idea that he was better in college. He's making Machado dance like a puppet on strings.
DeleteWhich cannot be proven since they played in different conferences and never faced each other before.
Explain yourself then, Cocohead.
DeleteHater Unknown claimed that Lin was not capable of playing in the NBA. You call that being a Lin fan?
Hater Unknown says that I am racist toward the black community. I have repeatedly said that I have tons of black friends and have been VERY well treated by the black community. So you're gonna call me "irrational" for trying to stop the hateful LIES that Hater Unknown is trying to put out against me?
Explain yourself, lest I brand you a racist hater like Hater Unknown.
So why couldn't Machado just say "We're both great college players" or "I am not getting into that" or "I don't know enough about Lin to say that" or "..."?
DeleteAnd why isn't Machado talking about Boykins or Douglas? Those are the two guys he'd have to beat out to make the Rockets, not Lin. He's not comparing his game to theirs, but it's OK with Lin?
Professional basketball players learn early to watch what they say in the media players they respect. But with Jeremy Lin, it seems that respect goes out the window and players can criticize him as much as they want. It's WRONG.
I have less respect for NY POST/ DAILY after he who LIN contract issue; they.are LIN basher, haters and doubters. What is their true intention? To stirr up mistrust and controversy among potential ROCKETS team mates or just plainly evil!!
Deleteagreed, Khuang. didn't uknown claim that JLin was a 3rd string guard? lmfao. that's what i call "shit" analytical skills. he has zero credibility, and yet other posters still agree with him? what the fuck?
Deleteby the way, cocohead is going to duck your challenge. ;)
DeleteThey pressume it was their 'birth right' on the bb ball and they can sprout nonsesnse and get away with.it. Some newsppaer even label Lin as the 'dumbest Harvard grad for leaving NY which can earn him doubles in endorsement s compare to what Rockets is paying him' . Nice try, but it seems this finanace mag just view in term of monetary rewards not bb. Yes, KNICKS might be a better and more experience team hv a greater chance in playoff this season compare to ROCKETS but if Lin main intention is choose a team that wiling to trust him as theie starter, NY is not the right place, furthermore he might be bench in favors of the veterans and KNICKS will sign him with 4 yrs with the risk of being traded off next year for CP, there is no job security with KNICKS if there think LIN has no more use for them. In summation, my says is no matter what willl the ROCKETS turn out to be in 2012-13 , LIN will always play with all his heart and soul, to glorify GOD.
ReplyDeletePeople come to this forum to share their support and love for Jeremy and is also the place to share some of the frustration that Jeremy have been treated as an Asian. So for someone like "unknown" to come and hating on Lin is unacceptable. We don't want to have these sort of arguments in here. If you want you can go to ESPN NY or the NY daily!! This is not the place! We need to kick this 'unknown" guy out!!
ReplyDeleteWhen did "unknown" ever hate on Jeremy Lin. I can't find that anywhere.
Delete777am and KHuang (Possibly the same user) Stop picking fights and making enemies. This forum is for all fans, not just fans who are Asian. Don't make this into a race war forum.
How DARE YOU call 777am and me the same user? You've got some nerve, kid. Now you and I have a PROBLEM.
DeleteHater Unknown claimed that Lin wasn't good enough to make the NBA and that his lack of skill was why he couldn't get a D1 scholarship and was justifiably cut by two teams.
This is the same Hater Unknown who said.that I should go on BET to start race wars, who calls me a racist who hates black people, and who claimed he was Asian even though he's not.
Hater Unknown brought the race war here and came after me and other Asians. I won't back down from him or anybody that thinks like him.
Well you need to do your due diligence before declaring he's not a Lin hater. Check all his previous posts not just on this thread. As i said, i've been here way too long to know who's the haters. KHuang and me are the same person?? You can tell he got a perfect english right? Well i'm a fob. LOL
DeleteI don't got perfect English all the time, 777am.
DeleteCompared to you, I am new to this board. I started in January 2012.
I'm not a fob, and it's all good. Thanks for speaking out against anti JLin racism.
unknown declared lin a 3rd string guard. LoL!
DeleteAnyways back to the point of the thread. I was very disappointed that the Rockets decided to waive Luis Scola, a true veteran who is now lighting it up for the Argentina Olympic team.
ReplyDeleteThey amnestied a veteran and a mentor to the young Rockets big men ... so they can make cap space for Dwight Howard ... who they aren't close to getting anyway.
Sometimes Morley is a brilliant GM, but sometimes the Houston front office makes some really boneheaded moves that leave you scratching your head.
Agreed.
DeleteThe common saying about Daryl Morey is "If he's such a stats geek, why do the Rockets keep missing the playoffs?"
Besides, his handling of Jeremy Lin clearly indicates that Les Alexander is the one really making the decision on who goes and stays. Luis Scola's departure is Alexander's issue, not Morey's.
Ordinarily I would cringe at letting a true mentor like Scola walk. However the Rockets are coached by Kevin McHale who was far greater a NBA player than Scola ever was. McHale is all the mentor the young Rockets big.men need.
Scola and Lin, could have been a perfect pick n roll partner. What a waste!!
DeleteMcHale is a coach, Scola was a player on the floor. Young players will learn a lot more from a guy that is actually on the floor during practice and in game ... that's just the way it is. Scola was a fundamentals in the paint player, the Rockets should have held on to him ... they had no reason to let him go, unless they were sure they could get D. Howard.
DeleteEven then, it was a waste of the Rocket's amnesty (They only get one) that they could have used in the future. And Luis Scola would have added value to any trade. He's scoring at will in the Olympics.
Unknown is definitely a racist black guy in media, almost definitely Stephen A Smith. Has posted in the past supporting Mayweather and a variety of clear spin and anti-Lin lies. A definite hater.
ReplyDeleteI think there's a second person here who posts under the same name which throws things off. It's pretty clear when it's the Melo-loving anti-Asian racist though.
Thank you Anonymous for pointing out the difference.
DeleteThe other "Unknown" is a polite respectful JLin fan. He has even reminded me publicly here that he is NOT the unknown posting here. That's why I address my enemy here as "Hater Unknown", to distinguish his hateful racial presence from the kind respectful JLin fan that also posts here.
I would LOVE IT if Hater Unknown was SAS. As hard as I'm coming down on him here, I'd come down on him HARDER.
Guys and gals, aren't we all LIN fans here? stop bashing each other over idiotic reports by the press; either the article was taken out or context or is was really the actual words from Machado, it doen't diminish our supports for LIN right? So lets be LIN strong backup and cheerleaders and forget about these racists and haters. Well of course I really feel like giving Mr S a shove or a trip if I ever bump into him but kids don't emulate my intention!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteI see this all the time. Haters disrespect Asian Americans they're uncomfortable with and other Asian Americans appease, internalize, or support the self racism. This goes back to Abercrombie tshirts, Rosie O'Donnell "Ching Chong, Alexandra Wallace. Hell you have ppl like MMalkin on Fox news defending internment camps of American citizens. It's ridiculous
DeleteEven "c--- in the armor", you still had a handful of twinkies being self racist about it
DeleteYup.
DeleteI've got a dear friend who was in the Arizona Japanese internment camp. Amazingly, she and those Japanese Americans remained true American patriots loyal to the red white and blue.
She and I are PROUD TO BE AMERICAN.
Unknown:
ReplyDeleteYou can play the 'colorblind' game, bec you can afford to. You have no ef-ing idea what it's like for Asian-Americans, & you don't have to...You can be above it all.
JLin has continually been disrespected.
People felt free making disparaging comments about HIS contract, When was this ever acceptable? Only him, right? WHY IS THAT?
Now an undrafted rookie [wasn't even great at Summer League. Good, not great.] declares that he feels he's good enough to start over JLin.
You must love JLin in your own way, or you will not be haunting this board. Broaden your mind a bit, surely you can understand the sentiments on this site.
You make it unsafe for JLin fans to speak up, in a JLIN FANSITE.
-------
"We are purely die-hard Lin supporters (NOT anti-Lin haters)."
- I'm an anti-Lin HATER then. Even The Christ will not accept the lukewarm. To tolerate is to accept. [You think ducking your head down & meekly playing model-minority will give you a pass? That's why people believe they can F with Asian-Americans with impunity.]
No to Peace AT ALL COST. It's too costly, in spirit & dignity.
-------
RESPECT TO ASIAN FANS, who are selflessly supportive of JLin.
Perhaps an insight into the real Asian-American experience might clear up some things [People who are angry are not just trouble-making: They have valid reasons.]
I suppose [could be mistaken] that most Asians are of the majority in your country [or a market-dominant minority.] I don't think there's much racial discrimination going on within your lives [?], but Asian-Americans face micro-aggressions daily. From ridiculing JLin's manhood, to implying he's misbehaving in clubs [bec he's supposed to be asexual?] to all the "be grateful" talk [uppity immigrant?] to the outright lie of him betraying the Nyk [the ultimate yellow peril = smart but sneaky 'oriental.']
Why do people continue to believe the lies told about JLin? They believe these lies are plausible, implicit stereotypes. Just bec you don't make overt racist comments, doesn't mean you're not one. Implicit stereotypes are termed implicit for a reason. How else do you explain Nyk fans who would rather believe an untrustworthy FO [who's story is suspect] over an upstanding Christian man with a sterling reputation [who's story makes more sense.] It's either that, or they deliberately demonize JLin, to assuage their own guilt for continuing to support the wrong side of the argument: they are complicit in slandering an innocent man.
Bombing Machado's twitter is not a good idea.
DeleteLet's treat all LIN fans with civility. I am a Chinese and we in Asia rooted for LIN not just because he is one but also he challenge the stereotype in NBA with majority of the players are black or caucasian. Out of the blue LIN burst into the scene with little anecdotal of his existance in NBA. His move to ROCKETS is good for his development with a new team; with a full training camp to mesh with new team mates, I don't see why he can't become a better / elite PG.
DeleteI am looking forward for his coming summer camp in Shenzhen and Taiwan.
To all LIN fans that have to fend off racist and bigots in your life, I understand the feeling of being a second class citizens in a country that our family has planted a root and consider ourselves as a true patriots of your country. For me, I was considered a second rated citizen in our education system, no matter how good were my grades, I was not offered a spot in the government university due tothe allotments are closed for us (non indigenous). Therefore I do know what is the feeling for being a pushover in your own country. But keep your head and spirit up, we live for ourselves not them.
"Let's treat all LIN fans with civility."
Delete- I agree. This is a JLin fansite, for all JLin fans.
"For me, I was considered a second rated citizen in our education system, no matter how good were my grades, I was not offered a spot in the government university due to the allotments are closed for us (non indigenous)..."
- That sucks, it's a testament to your fortitude that you've been able to move on beyond that.
[But don't you wish people could have stood up & called out the 'unfairness?' Sometimes you need to put yourself on the line, or nothing will change.]
I did by renouncing my citizenship to the country that did not appreciate how my ancestors help to built up the country from jungle and swamps to an urban jungle. My last parting words to them after the 2 years cooling of period was: "You can keep al the privileges to your own kind because I am going to become a new citizen to a country that welcome me, embrace and appreciate me as a person with skill and knowledge not because of my ethnicity". To put it crudely : you can shove it, if I would care.
Delete@via: " ...Even The Christ will not accept the lukewarm. To tolerate is to accept. [You think ducking your head down & meekly playing model-minority will give you a pass? That's why people believe they can F with Asian-Americans with impunity."
DeleteWell said.
When MLK was jailed and some of his supporters in the Church called for him to moderate his behavior, MLK wrote a letter explaining that his people have been oppressed for too long and silently accepting the oppression is not enough to effect change. MLK voiced his opinion through civil obedience, but always accepting the consequences of the law.
The reason I bring up MLK up is to point out that firstly we have to be honest and transparent about the oppression of any racial groups.
Secondly, those oppressed groups are entitled to voice out their views and struggles. (As a last resort, sometimes even even through civil obedience outside the bounds of law, but always accepting the consequences of breaking the law as MLK did. Having said that, I do not think it appropriate in the circumstances to justify bombing Machado's Twitter. Of course there is nothing outside the bounds of law in bombing Twitter or how the angry Asian men are posting their strongly held views here.)
Strongly held views should not be discouraged, as Unknown tries to discourage. Unknown not only discourages, but faults the angry Asian men here for voicing their views. That is offensive to Asian men who face real struggles of racism everyday.
Civil obedience to deal with the oppression of Asian-american is probably not going to happen in society today. The closest to the spark to effect change that we will see in the near future seems to be Jeremy Lin. Thus, I fully understand any 'overreaction' or 'sensitivity' expressed by the angry Asian men here.
The crazy thing is that I don't even identify with Lin because we're both Asian.
ReplyDeleteHater Unknown has repeatedly accused me of following Lin just because I'm Asian. Yet I follow all sorts of other players, including my new favorite underrated rookie Jae Crowder. See, it's not OK for me to follow Lin because I'm Asian but it's OK for me to follow Crowder. RACIAL DOUBLE STANDARD.
What is insane is that I don't even root for Lin because I'm Asian. I root for Lin because he produces. If Jeremy Lin were not Asian, I'd root for him just the same. It just so happens that Lin's Asian ethnicity is what has held him back from being an even bigger star, and I find that abhorrent because the best players are the best players regardless of what they look like.
Look at the lies being told about Jeremy Lin, and then look at the lies told about me by Hater Unknown and other haters of Asians here. This is RACISM IN THE FLESH.
"Hater Unknown has repeatedly accused me of following Lin just because I'm Asian."
ReplyDelete- It's why people think: JLin = Ichiro [or any other asian.] The Lemming-like asians, those goosestepping mindless sheep. No individuality, no personhood, no discernment, the Borg.
"It just so happens that Lin's Asian ethnicity is what has held him back from being an even bigger star"
- And to be compared to someone who's never been racially discriminated against [in bball context] is to diminish the hardships JLin has had to go through. Disrespectful.
@Unknown,
ReplyDeleteYou remind me of Steve Jobs because of your ability to create a reality distortion field...it's awesome, but I commend you for living in your own world.

ReplyDeleteEveryone,
ReplyDelete@Unknown is not just a hater, but a divider as well. He constantly brings up the "Asian angle" even when it makes no sense at all. For example, I could be talking about pizzas, and he would say "Pizza stores" were originally owned by Italians, but now Asians own them. Blacks should just take them over. It's ridiculous. Don't let him divide this forum. We're all here because we're fans of Jlin- Christian's, whites, Asians, Greek, Italians, Martians..whatever.
I fully admit that one of the huge reasons I'm such an avid fan of Jlin is because he's Asian and it has been a great source of pride. However, more importantly, I like great people with great character...someone who I can tell my son about. One such person I have always admired is David Robinson who is not Asian. When Duncan came aboard, David Robinson welcomed him with open arms and they won two championships. It's people like this that make me want to watch the NBA- the good guys, and unfortunately, they aren't as common as you would hope. If Jlin was a tatooed punk that only cared about himself, I would definitely not follow him.
Unknown is a lowlife scrub that has been on this site before the linsanity. Just simply ignore him, he's just hate life .
Deletei thought the rockets strategy was to tank for the next couple of seasons, so they can get the high picks and be the next OKC. Why would they go out and trade for good players and mess up their strategy? I am a JLin fan, but I dont care much for the Rockets. Although, I understand why JLin signed with the rockets, I for one is not really looking forward to it. I am not sure where this optimism for the Rockets is coming from. JLin is going to be on probably one of the worst teams in the league. And I have a feeling Kevin Martin is going to get shipped somewhere mid-season. On top of it the management of the Rocket actually doesnt want to win. They actually WANT to lose. As a basketball and a JLin fan, it is going to suck.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/29/sports/basketball/bad-by-design-rockets-gamble-on-long-term-payoff.html?_r=1
DeleteThe OKC strategy is so overrated.
DeleteWithout Kevin Durant, OKC would be another lottery team even with Russell Westbrook and James Harden.
Look at Portland. They had Greg Oden who was drafted before Durant. Portland was a lottery team this year, and they're a stacked team even without Brandon Roy.
The way to build a championship team is to acquire or luck into that one transcendent talent that nobody can stop, then build around it.
Is a bir worrisome over the roster though, thw Rockets need to get all the chess piece together especially at center and a deeper back court to suppport LIN and build up a substantiate and formidable team for playoff, maybe not this season but subsequent one. He can't carry the whole team on his back indefinately, it will only open up to injury and fatigue, physically and mentally
DeleteLIN is mature beyond his age; he way he handles the press, never putting other players down (team mates or opponents) or to showcase himself as high and mighty. To me he is :

"You can't make me".
"the best reply to unseemly behavior is patience..."
Delete- He'll need lots of it.
It's fashionable nowadays to rag on JLin, it boosts ones street cred.
& When the season starts, everyone will be on him for his 'ridiculous' contract.

ReplyDelete- The Christ is the ultimate in non-abiding.
He called out people, overturned tables. He never appeased. Not once did He fool himself as to the malice of his adversaries, He always knew the score. He never played by someone else's rules.
Hi All, I posted this in a few of the "replies", but I wanted to make sure others get to see this as well. I believe KHuang is intelligent, but emotionally unstable. The best advice I can give to you and anyone else on this thread is to ignore his comments.
ReplyDeleteAs a former debater and television reporter, I've been trained to look at both sides of the story.
I'm the other Unknown.
DeleteI'm just waiting for KHuang's response cause this is very entertaining to me. I come to this site to check on news about Lin and the occasional read on "intelligent" debates/disucssion about nothing.
Ah.
DeleteA "retired reporter" coming here strictly to flame me. FRESH MEAT to me.
First of all, Retired Reporter, you should follow your own advice. You don't like what you read here, GTFO. Follow your own damn "advice" and stop acting like the hypocrite you are.
Second, it is RACISTS LIKE YOU that seek to emasculate Asian men like me. Unfortunately for you, I am a target with a brain that is fully turned toward exposing you as a hater. YOU are why Asian males like Lin and myself get lied about and disrespected in the media which I HATE.
Third, you must read this site a lot if you're following me that closely. That means two of two things: you are just as invested in Jeremy Lin as I am, and you are also my FAN.
In the spirit of amateur journalism, I salute you for coming onto this board to call me crazy just like the American media does to other Asian men. Just remember that when you flame me, I'm gonna flame yoj back 10x.
Americans of all colors, watch this "angry Asian man" PUNK this Retire Reporter fool!
Retired Reporter,
DeleteJR made his disparaging comments on the back of Melo's comments. Stackhouse made his own comments on the back of these two. It's clear people believe they can diss JLin with impunity. Is Machado continuing the trend? Maybe/ Maybe not. However, IT'S REASONABLE for people to be suspicious, judging from JLin's recent experience. To think this doesn't make someone a hate-monger, or emotionally-unstable.
Perhaps you would consider returning & contributing your insights to the discussion.
And what's this, Retired Reporter? You miss the spotlight so much that you have to post multiple times here?
DeleteYour ability to spread lies is as good as I've seen here. For example, Administration here will tell you that 777am and I are not the same person. Instead, you DELIBERATELY propagate that LIE. Go ahead and keep lying then, because you serve my goal in exposing you as an Asian hating LIAR.
You can taunt my suffering all you want. I hope it makes you feel better about your pathetic racist self, because you'll NEED TO if you want to do battle with me. I have successfully beat down every guy like you that has come after me to ridicule my life, and you ain't "all that".
I am not famous or rich like Jeremy Lin, but I'm not going to let any little punk like Retired Reporter pour the Haterade on me. I'm not bound to the same reporter rules of political correctness that paid media professionals are bound to stick by. So I'll retaliate, at everyone if need be.
I'm nobody's tool and nobody's fool.
Retired Reporter, you can go back to your hole. Really, I certainly don't care if you ever come back to this site. No need to come in here and throw dirt around and pretend you're some smart Joe. I can tell your reporting sucks and that's why you had to retire in the first place. You have very little material or facts to support your rant here. A smart reporter would not do that. From what I can tell, you're desperate for some attention and acknowledgement.
DeleteHope you find another line of work where you'll have some success...because, as you know it, reporting is not it.
Dont take it too personally KHuang, you are a little bit jaded. I think you did mention you got beat up a lot and what not because you being Asian. It is completely understandable because of that you are a little pissed off. I would say that anger definately comes accross sometimes in your posts and puts your perspective on things slightly different that others Asian Americans or not like me who haven't been through the tough things you've been through.
DeleteOf course my anger comes across in my posts. I WANT IT TO.
DeleteI used to get beat up a lot, physically and mentally. Now I'm the one doing the beating when people come after me because I post here with my Asian name.
Strong Asians like me and Lin get targeted regularly. It took me a while to realize that the only way to respond is to retaliate with full force. Bullies want to fire on people without being fired on themselves, and I've had to battle off a lifetime of bullies. Lin too.
I know that it's shocking even to Asian Americans when I stand my ground and retaliate with full force against my enemies here. The thing is that being a "silent Asian" only INCREASES one's enemies and the intensity of the attacks.
People can flame me if they want. It's funny and yet pitiful to hear their crying when I strike back, though.
If LIN behave and reiterated all the criticism from doubters and haters (in the facade and pretext of free press and freedom of speech) perversely; he willl get more media bashing for being a 'prima donna' or 'over his head' after signing a big contract. Therefore LIN prefer to keep a low profile and accepting interview feom well respectes media eg. CNN and a local mesia (San.Jose). The will not get into a spitting war with the 'negative force' but rather to spend his time working out and practising. That is the LIN we come to know and love.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. JLin should be working on his game.
DeleteHaving said that, us JLin fans shouldn't avert our eyes when stupid crap is going down. & It's natural that we talk about things we see.
I am not putting my guard down ;.irregardsless what the media.say something good or negative about JLIN, I want to contribute a piece of my mind to them. We fans should stick together and retaliate any unjust aeticles /comments about LIN. He deserves out love and support
DeleteAccording to http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/statistics/player/_/stat/assists/sort/avgAssists, Machado led the nation in assists with 9.9 assists. So he's a pass-first point guard.
ReplyDeleteEven though he led the league in assists, he went undrafted. He's a good player, and I wish him all the best as he's in the same position as JLin was (undrafted after a good college career with a small school).
I try not to read too much in the quotes, because it all depends on the questions. You notice that the reporter did not include the questions asked -- just the answers.
I know Machado grew up in my hometown Queens so there's a reason why the NYDN is covering him. But why hype the whole JLin thing? That's because the NY Press NEEDS JLin to keep the hits coming to their website. Lin has been making the press tons of money so rather than cover the story of a local kid trying to prove people wrong, the headline is: "Jeremy Lin doesn't impress Iona's Scott Machado, now playing for Houston Rockets summer league team". That headline is designed to get people frothing at the mouth and generate hits.
The New York Press cannot stop talking about JLin. Landry Fields got a poison pill contract but no-one, no-one in NYDN or Post is covering that story. That shows you the star power of JLin.
Bottom Line: Let's ask Mitch Abramson for the entire transcript of the the questions AND the answers before we pass too much judgement.
Having said this -- the question wouldn't even be asked and answered if the starting point guard for Houston was Steve Nash. Or Chris Paul. JLin still has a ways to earn the respect of rookies.
I think people have the right to like JLin for a variety of reasons, and do not have to agree that JLin will be a super star in NBA. It is true that he is benefitting from the fact that he's the only Asian-American playing in NBA, as well as the fact that he's a Harvard graduate, as well as the fact that he's Christian, as well as the fact that he comes across as a humble and hard working guy. I also like Kevin Durant a lot because he also comes across humble and hard working guy. Also, LeBron is not that cocky as people think, given the fact that's he's a head and shoulder above every other NBA players, maybe except for Durant.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling that many Afro-Americans who have the experience of going into certain areas where Afro-Americans are perceived as not being successful will find a great deal of sympathy with JLin. I view JLin as an Afro-American being successful and getting all the attention for winning some violin competition, causing other violinists, including Asian violinists, to question this Afro-American's ability and being jealous of the attention that the Afro-American is getting because of his race. I admire anyone, of any race, for being a trail blazer in any field. To me, JLin does not have to be a super star in NBA for me to be a fan of his. At this point (note at this point), I believe he can be a top 10 PG in NBA for long term, although I think he will have a very hard time breaking into top 5 PG on a long term basis. His unique ability is the fact that he's a player who can make those around him play better, as long as those around him believe in the team work. Having said this, I think people who want to see him play over an entire season and playoff have a bona fide point; it's very hard to judge the player's ability without seeing him play during play-offs, at a highest stage, so to speak.
Anyway, even if JLin doesn't become a star (through his playing ability) in NBA, I am sure he will have a great career as an agent for NBA players, based on the fact that he out-negotiated Knicks management. Behind JLin's sweet and humble demeanor belies a steely discipline and belief in God's plan for him in NBA -- and that's a formidable belief that many detractors will have a hard time destroying.
I have never seen subtle or overt racism in America against Afro American classical musicians from Asian American musicians.
DeleteIf anything, the Asian musicians feel positive toward the African American musicians. Music, like basketball, transcends race and class.
Jeremy Lin is a great player whose arrival is stirring waves. The waves are made greater by the fact that his impressive career would be newsworthy in and of itself even if he weren't Asian.
Awadigan Pratt is an excellent pianist who won a major piano competition and has an international career.
DeleteI don't follow piano, but I don't remember there being backlash against his well deserved success the way there is against Lin.
Similarly, Karen Briggs is a world class level talent who toured with Yanni. She can literally do anything on the violin and is a great player. I have seen some backlash against her, though people don't call it racism overtly. But I know they're taunting her race by the way the haters act.
I see what you are saying and your point is well taken, but I think the media cares more about NBA, etc., and obviously, many journalists, including SAS guy, are intent on saying some inaccurate stuff mainly to get hits. You have to remember that any media is very selective and will follow those issues that generate a lot of interest. I guess what I was trying to say -- and this point was not made clearly -- is that we have to distinguish between our perception based on the past experiences and what we observe. However, I think we have to be careful labeling anyone, i.e., Larry Brown who says he or she thinks JLin is not a NBA starter as a hater, because quite honestly, more data would be helpful.
DeleteIt's hard not to label a guy like Larry Brown a hater when he doesn't have anything good to say about Lin's game.
DeleteBesides, since when should the guy who outscored EVERYONE in his historic first starts be sitting on the bench???
@Retired Reporter,
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what the history is with you and @Khuang, but I can tell you this about @UNKNOWN. He provokes people on this site and instigates race wars. Let me give you an example..I never talked about race at all about my comments with respect to Machado...I was simply stating that I thought he was being cocky and was world's apart from Jlin in terms of character. Here's @UNKNOWN verbatim in his response: "Besides, don't the commenters on this site frequently talk about how Lin will open doors for Asians in professional sports? Wouldn't those guys be riding Lin's coattails as well? So, only Asians are supposed to be able to walk through those doors but nobody else?". I'm still trying to understand the logical conclusion he is trying to make, but it's clear to me that he is resentful that a star of Jeremy's caliber exists and gives so much hope to Asian Americans and all minorities.
Next time @Unknown comes onto this site, be aware of what he is trying to do...create a site about how Jlin is an Asian star and noone else should support him...he's an instigator and he in fact is the real issue. Don't fall for his traps!
DeleteI should mention that @Unknown conveniently disappears for a while once he can't take the heat.
DeleteThe Need to be Shrewd in the Media War
ReplyDeleteIt is prudent to withhold our judgment in the Scott Machado story since we know the real intention of NY media to get more hits so let's not fall into their trap headfist. But there is a real danger looming here.
It is imperative for us JLin fans not to ignore the current trend of NBA players 'bashing' JLin's contract. It is unprecedented to have multiple NBA players (Melo, JR and Stackhouse) to openly criticize another player's contract. I tried to give Melo the benefit of the doubt of calling the the 3rd year amount 'ridiculous' because Houston forced a 'poison pill' that the Knicks refused to swallow but if that were true, he would follow up with more positive comments by lavishing praises to Jeremy's record-breaking performance in the past year even with 35 games deserving of the $25M contract. And the fact that Jeremy unfollowed Melo in Twitter further confirmed that Melo is not what you call a 'true' friend.
Jeremy has done a superb job in taking the high road in refusing to bash his former jealous teammates so other players would look like the jealous 'bad guys' if they further mouth off to criticize other NBA players' contract. But Jeremy needs some help from his fans and Asian-American community in this publicity war.
My main concern is that this NY propaganda to paint Jeremy as the bad guy will give free license to some NBA players to incur injury on the court to prove that Jeremy is just a flash in the pan. One way to counter this smear campaign by the NY media would be for some talented writers to write more articles (i.e. Bleacher Report) discussing the jealousy factor of Jeremy's rise to fame in other NBA players and questioning whether more NBA players will be out to get Jeremy on the court. This will prove to be a deterrent for any NBA players hell-bent to injure Jeremy out of jealousy.
Jeremy's camp and fans cannot afford being passive as Asian culture would advocate and need to be proactive to call out any injustice. We need to be as innocent as doves but be shrewd like snakes. There's definitely something going on when multiple NBA players felt free to criticize other NBA player's contract. The jealousy color is green indeed. Let's act before it's too late.
"Breaking up with Jeremy Lin"
ReplyDeleteI think the author is spot on regarding how jilted NYkers are feeling.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mindy-utay/breaking-up-with-jeremy-lin_b_1700312.html
If that's how jilted New Yorkers are feeling, that's PATHETIC.
DeleteMindy Utay should do her homework before writing an article that states that Jeremy Lin "chose" Houston over NY which never offered him a contract other than the disgustingly low minimum wage tender off his original rookie deal.
How selfish it is of Mindy Utay to compare Jeremy Lin's decision to choose Houston's $25 million over New York's 1 million to being "dumped for a bimbo". She basically calls Houston a "bimbo" and Jeremy Lin a guy who is wrong for choosing $25 million over $1 million. And this wacked lady with bad math is a PSYCHOTHERAPIST???
This kind of shameful article that trashes Jeremy Lin's romantic and financial judgment is DESPICABLE.
I am so sick of the Lin bashing. But it's routine fare for Asian American males like Lin and myself.
Let me add that I spent most of my life in NY, so I still consider myself a New Yorker.
DeleteI can assure everybody here that this lady doesn't speak for most New Yorkers. Knicks fans are an astute bunch that know basketball. The media is a mess, but Knick fans know the real deal.
That's why they embraced Jeremy Lin and in turn he embraced them. He'd have continued to be a fabulous Knick had the franchise wantes him to be.
Etane,
Deleteyou agree to what this lady.weote in this article?
Well, I don't mind Mindy Utay writing that some New Yorkers miss Jeremy Lin.
DeleteI really do think Mindy Utay was trying to write an article expressing support of Jeremy Lin. Indeed, she accurately describes the positivity that Lin brought NY in his short stint there.
What I take offense with is her not checking the facts on Lin before writing her article. Certainly a Huffington Post writer could've Googled the circumstances of Lin's departure from NY with but a few clicks.
If she really assumes stuff about men the way she did about Lin without checking things out, no wonder she feels jilted that guys are dumping her for "bimbos"!!!
This reminds me of this stupid forbes article:
DeleteJeremy Lin May Be The Dumbest Harvard Grad Ever
http://www.forbes.com/sites/randalllane/2012/07/18/jeremy-lin-may-be-the-dumbest-harvard-grad-ever/
Again, sloppy, sloppy background research.
Again, it's JLin going for the money. [SAS & Co have brainwashed people well.]
Good thing readers take him to task in the comment section.
A woman should not call another woman a 'bimbo' unless she is one herself. I am a woman too but never use desparing words to another human beings, men or women. ( But not Mr S, he is a worm)
ReplyDelete"McHale not happy with Rockets' moves"
ReplyDelete(http://www.yardbarker.com/nba/articles/kevin_mchale_threw_a_tantrum_after_some_of_houstons_offseason_moves/11335042)
Oh, my, what is this?
another NY media's vicious attack, trying to discourage Rockets players and fans?
Yawn.
DeleteIf I were Kevin McHale, I'd be throwing a temper tantrum if I saw my entire rotation outside Kevin Martin traded away for young players and picks.
Jeremy Lin has yet to take a dribble on his new contract, and the ink isn't even dry on Asik's signature. Of course McHale is nervous about how his team is going to do.
McHale has been wholly positive to his players. He is a pro coach and will do his best to foster good team chemistry. Lin will help.
Another article coming from NY JLin related. These clowns are hilarious! :) Man, just let it go. Let it go New York...Jeremy Lin has left town. What happens to him and the Rockets is none of your business unless you guys are facing off. Other than that...no one cares about New York...the man has left town. Save your breath, losers.
