JLin To Meet With Rockets
It is being reported by multiple sources that Jeremy will be meeting with the Rockets brass in Houston tomorrow. Goran Dragic supposedly was asking for too much (multi-year starting at 10mil, so my guess: at least 4 years close to 50 million). The Rockets, who cut JLin before the 2011-2012 season and are under the cap, are able to give Jeremy the backloaded contract of 3 years ~25 mil. or 4 years at ~40 mil. Nice….

Reportedly, Houston was offering Dragic $8M per year so for a 4 year contract, that's worth $32M.
ReplyDeleteSee, this is what J-Lin should have been doing from Day One, play hardball. Which is exactly what Ray Allen, DWill, and Dwight are doing too. They hit the ground running in free agency, visit and talk to other teams ... show no loyalty to any man except to the dollar $Ben Franklin$.
ReplyDeleteEnough of this "nice guy" chilling with Coach Woodson and being complacent with his position with the Knicks. There is no guarantee they will re-sign him, and he needs to look at other options and have teams compete for him.
Essentially, that's what the Knicks asked Lin to do.
DeleteIt's what we expected when it became apparent Lin was viewed as an option B by teams, including possibly the Knicks. The option As are beginning to run their course. So it's Lin's turn.
Good sign for Lin in that if interest comes from previously unidentified quarters, like the Rockets, and option As continue to dry up, the bidding hopefully will take on a life of its own. Of course, teams also have to anticipate what the Knicks will match and add a bump for that.
I am sure JLin wasn't/isn't sitting around waiting for the Knicks to come knocking first. It is a business, and he's stated that from day one. Also, I am certain his Havard education will not dissappoint. :) He's already got a slew of reputable lawyers hovering around, helping him navigate every nuance of his journey into uncharted territories. Remember "Linsanity", it's his. (The patent lawyers jumped on that days into it what has now become the "Linsanity" era.)
ReplyDeleteOkay, my prediction, while the rumors and posturing continue to go unabated -- the Knicks will match ANY offer to get JLin back in orange and blue!
If I recall right, Lin hired his big-time agent on June 20.
DeleteI'm bumping this up from an earlier post. On a Knicks blog, a commenter made a good argument that it makes sense for the Knicks to match any offer for Lin, including a max backloaded contract.
His theory goes that the Knicks are focused on a 2 year run with this core.
The issue with Lin's contract isn't money in terms of salary or the luxury tax. Even though the luxury tax is steeper with the new CBA, it's widely believed Lin would make it back as a marketing cash cow for the Knicks.
The issue is the hard cap. The next 2 seasons would be tight but Lin's 5 mil per would be workable under the apron. In year 3 or 2014-15, Lin's backloaded contract would balloon. The hard cap would be triggered. But the Big 3 contracts would have pushed the team salary to the hard cap without Lin's contract, and this way, the Knicks would have their team core intact with Lin as a Big 4.
Then in 2015-16, all the big contracts would be off the books except Lin's if he has a 4 year deal. If he's still under contract, Lin would either be an established star worth re-signing for the Knicks rebuilding or a valuable expiring contract.
I hope he will not sign with the rockets. Dallas would be a good destination and so does Toronto. Toronto have all the pieces to make Lin the focal point and face of the franchise. Fields, DeRozan, Bargnani suits perfectly with JLIn game. Bargnani is an excellent pick n roll guy, DeRozan are good playing off the ball and so does Landry as we know. The only missing piece is a big man like Roy Hibbert and a sniper like Novak. That will be very exciting.
ReplyDeleteKnicks only had themselves to blame. They didn't trust and respect Lin to be a starter and their pursuit of Nash backfired with the poison pills deals that Raptors offered to Fields. Now Knicks have a very slim chance of getting Nash unless they give up Shumpert on a sign and trade deal with Phoenix. Houston, Dallas, and Toronto(depending on Nash) will offer Lin that back-loaded contract that would be very hard for Knicks to match.
ReplyDeleteI never want Lin to play in Toronto. But now i think Toronto is the best place for him to grow and be the main guy. Their roster suited perfectly to Lin's game especially Bargnani, DeRozan and Fields. Dwayne Casey is a good coach and he knows Lin well from the summer league. They also have plenty of caps to sign all the missing pieces, Calderon will likely get traded or amnesty. If their is one guy who could turn around a franchise and bring excitement from CANADA it is JLIN. Everything he does are always against the odds from winning a State championship with Pally to making Harvard relevance in NCAA. If Raptors build the team around Lin and putting all the right pieces, he could definitely win a ring in the next few years.

If the Lin's decision is right, and went, this should be the result of careful consideration.
ReplyDeleteDeron Williams just signed with the brooklyn Nets. With Landry Fields signing with toronto, the Knicks won't be able to do a sign and trade with the Suns for Nash. Nash goes to Toronto.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet this is why they signed Fields in the first place - to get NASH! The process is nearing its conclusion.
Jeremy will sign the Rockets offer sheet and then the Knicks will match.
The End.
The best team for Lin is the one that wants him and signs him to a proper NBA contract.
ReplyDeleteI hope Lin can secure the largest deal possible. The reality in the nba is that money = respect. The higher price the team invest in you, the more chances they will give you to succeed. Let's go Jeremy. Don't care about the overpaid tag and those selfish teams. Look out for yourself 1st!
ReplyDeleteCoach Kevin McHale is one of the best in the NBA at developing players.
ReplyDeleteMcHale took the useless Goran Dragic and essentially taught him how to play. McHale will have a more talented student in Jeremy Lin.
Houston's ex center Yao Ming already is Lin's NBA mentor. Add Hakeem and Moses to the mix with a little McHale to provide the ideal on court classroom for Lin.
You're overvaluing Mchale's influence on Dragic or any player for that matter. Dragic put up 23 pts against the Spurs in a playoff game all in the 4th quarter when he was still on the Suns. Dragic just needed more playing time just like Jeremy. When Lowry went down, he showed what he can do.
Deletei'm from houston, and as much as i'd like to see him here, i know he'll be coming off the bench here instead of starting. kyle lowry is the starter unless he's dealt.
Deletedragic was legit before mchale. got to agree with MrScrewup there
Ok. I yield.
DeleteI am not a Goran Dragic fan, but I'll give you guys props.

Delete@ Gene, you mean the same Kyle Lowry who is demanding to be traded away from Houston ?
Delete@KHuang, I don't doubt that Goran Dragic is good, he's a great veteran pg. He put on a Linsanity show of his own after Kyle Lowry went down. But is he worth that much money ?
And how is Eric Gordon, 6'3" shooting guard, signing a 4 year $58 million max contract with Phoenix ? He's never had a healthy season... and he doesn't play PG.
Dragic and Gordon are not Asian, so they're worth more to NBA evaluators.
DeleteAt my age, I no longer care about political correctness.
And sorry guys, but I'm from Phx and I HATED Goran Dragic's soft inconsistent game when he was the anointed man for the Suns.
DeleteA single 23 pt explosion means far less to me than the years of inconsistent play. The Suns could never count on Dragic because he was still learning the NBA game before he got trades as a young NBA veteran.
I'm thrilled to see Dragic doing well, though I'm leery of his consistency. Dragic is not like Jeremy Lin who's demonstrated shocking quality consistency for several teams in different leagues.
not sure if this is 100% legit but looks like rockets got lin to sign their offer sheet.

May be a verbal agreement now. Lin can't formally sign the contract until Jul. 11.
DeleteThe Knicks will have 3 days to match it.
As I've been saying for the past year, I still like Lin going to Dallas. Even if Nash went to Dallas too... Nash is 38 after all, he won't be playing that much longer or that many minutes. As long as Dallas gives Lin a backloaded contract, that means they are committed to Lin for the long term future.

I'm not comfortable with Lin staying with the NY Knicks. Even though he is the incumbent starter there, there's just too much drama there. The fan base and media are ruthless and unloyal.
Lin to Dallas would be excellent.
DeleteDallas is an aging team with old legs in the backcourt. Lin allows Dallas to match up evenly at pg against playoff opponents like Russell Westbrook and.Chris Paul.
If Lin gets to Dallas (the team that started it all for Lin), he'd likely inherit the torch of team leader once Dirk Nowitzki starts to age.
I do agree Dallas is a very good choice for Lin . Just stay away from KNICKs , in case Lin have couple bad games , I do not think the other star starters willing to take part of the blame and media will say he is overpaid . Instead he play for the Rockets , Toronto or Dallas .... He can be able to focus on the natural way to play the game and less worry about the other star player scoring demanding.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back to Houston, Jeremy!!!!
ReplyDeletey'all go here and vote to show jeremy some love :)
Deletethere's a poll here for goran vs jeremy

Dragic vs. Lin.
DeleteAny armchair enthusiast, let alone purported stats geek Darel Morey, can see that Lin is younger, cheaper, and BETTER than Goran Dragic.
To me, Goran Dragic is a poor man's Jeremy Lin.
pack and leave KNICKS, Jeremy. The lukewarm and foot dragging decision to present JLIN any offer sheet show just how the management 'appreciate' his past and future contribution for the team. KNICKS indecisiveness has caused jlin has to withdraw himself from the US select team which I believe he was looking forward to this honor. Jeremy should sign up with a team that willing to pay appropriately, be the starting PG and develop his skills and point out and help him to reduce his weaknesses and TO.

ReplyDeleteCoach Woodson said in a way he will see how Lin doing and then decided if Lin going to be the starting PG or not . If I am Lin , I would be happy my coach would have a plan to help to be a better player instead .I also expected be appreciated to help to turn a dead fish to a swimming fish . I do not think Lin is stupid enough not recognized that , but .........
