Should JLin be an All-Star?

  1. I'm a Lin fan and this is what is needed in order for Lin to make the All-Star game. All these criteria must be met IMO for him to be an all star:

    1. If the Knicks win all the games remaining before the all star break

    2. Surpass the Celtics in standings (then end the Rondo debate)

    3. Lin continue to be consistent in his stats

    4. Rose is not playing

  2. - Jeremy is so humble that he wouldn't even accept an All-Star invite if Stern offered him one. He'd probably say: "Thank you so much, but I don't feel as if I've earned it yet." And I would agree with him. Jeremy is the real deal, but he hasn't played most of the season. End of discussion.

    - He should be invited to the Rookie-Sophomore game, but unfortunately, Stern said it's too late for that. Unless one of the Soph guards is injured, there's no room for Jeremy on the roster.

    - They said he could participate in the Skills Challenge, but honestly, that event's kinda boring. I think it's best for Jeremy to continue being humble. "I would love to participate...in the future. But for now, I just want to focus on improving and helping my team win."

  3. Yes, and about a billion more people in China agree with me.

  4. First and Foremost, the NBA is an entertainment business. They need to think, what would sell more tickets and make more money on TV ? Rajon Rondo or Jeremy Lin ?

We've already seen Rajon Rondo in All Star Games. People want to see something new.

  5. No, it's too early.

Let him build real cred, via quality of his play on court, among other players, so when, hopefully, it does happen, everyone respects and agrees with decision, and doesn't think that it was all a marketing scheme.

  6. No way. He's only had 6 real games. Besides, All-Star teams were selected already, what are they going to kick someone off? I don't want to see Lin get special treatment (like Michelle Wie getting sponsors exemptions). If he plays like this next year, he'll easily earn the votes.

btw, even Obama has been watching Lin's games too:

  7. Jeremy has been blessed with God's grace but all news media outlets seem to have forgotten to mention he's a dragon baby so for the obvious, it's his year, and especially special since it's the Year of the Black Water Dragon which comes every 60 years. God and yinyang has his back, superior....

  9. I say PUT HIM IN.

Granted, I understand that the selections are set in stone. So there really is no debate about Lin and All Star Weekend.

Lin has been the best player in the entire league since the NJ game. He has had a historically great start and has led the Knicks into playoff contention. The Knicks have been essentially a D league team during the Lin Dynasty, and no other player has done more with less help.

I don't agree in the least that Jennings and Rondo deserve to make the All Star Team before Lin does. Rondo plays on the stacked Boston team and Milwaukee with Jennings is pretty good with a healthy Bogut. Even so, Lin has propelled the Knicks past Mil and soon Boston. I laughed when Chris Palmer wrote that "Lin could never be as good as Rajon Rondo" because that's just devil's advocate journalist drivel.

I am a basketball purist who wants to see the best players in the court, regardless of situation. Just from a basketball standpoint, Lin deserves to be there.

  10. As much as I would love to see it, it doesn't make any sense since he hasn't played enough to merit it. But next year, I'm positive he'll get voted on as a starter. If he keeps up this level of play, at least he'll deserve it more than Yao did in his rookie year (2003) when he got voted in over Shaq.

    2. Yes, Kobe Bryant is better at shooting "trees" as well as the "lay" part.

  12. Can they just let the guy rest?? And to all the Asian chicks out there, stop bringing them damn signs like it's a Justin Bieber Concert...

  13. Sadly, it's not fair to put JLin into All-Star game. Please put less pressure on Jeremy, OK? I can imagine people trashing on Lin as an All-Star once his stat goes down. Just let him play in Rising Star, and let him have fun.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Who said Lin's stats are going down?

For the 6th straight game, he performed like an MVP would. He didn't get big stats because he dominated early and then got to rest.

People are going to criticize no matter what. Lin doesn't care what people think.

If Lin keeps playing great and the Knicks keep winning, I think he could become the first MVP to not have played in the All Star Game.

  15. As much as I like Jeremy, I wouldn't put him on the All-Star team. He's played well the past few games but it's only been a few games, not the entire season. His body of work is limited. Jeremy's full of positive vibes for the Knicks so I don't think he would want to be singled out anyway.

If Jeremy keeps up his pace, he will be rewarded at the end of the season. First, the Knicks could be a playoff team. If they do well, Jeremy will get a ton of recognition. Plus, Jeremy could make the All-League teams which is important. All Star teams are usually popularity contests for top players but All-League teams are more performance based.

  16. If Jeremy averages 18 and 9 next year, you know people are going to vote him in and he will deserve it. Well, with controversy because that is not better stats then other Eastern point guards. Actually, hhe doesn't deserve it because you will have Rose, Rhondo having better stats and probably Irving. So it is a popularity contest. Taiwan and China are going to vote him in. It will be actually embarrassing for him to be voted in if he averaged any less than 18 and 9. You can't justify going in with less. Irving, Rose will kill for sure next year; so you have to beat out Rhonda and Williams. Did I miss out another Eastern point guard? Of course you have to look at NY win % by next year, if he is average less than 18 and 9 NY better be leading their division and like 1,2 or 3 in the conference to justify the masses of votes from asia.

    1. if he makes the Knicks a solid playoff contender, it doesn't really matter if the stats are a little subpar. Guess what the pts/ast for the starting West point guard Chris Paul are? 18.4/9. His career stats are 18.7/9.9.

  17. Lin right now would be the leading vote getter not just in Asia, but across the entire world including America.

It is an insult to the intelligence of Asian fans to assume that Lin would be the top votegetter.just because of his skin color. When Yi Jianlian was starting for the historically bad Nets, he didn't receive any attention because everybody knew that he couldn't play.

I can understand there being some controversy about Kyrie Irving's All Star validity (though backup Ramon Sessions has been even better than Irving). But Derrick Rose plays on a stacked Chicago team that wins just as much without him as they do with him. Meanwhile Rajon Rondo has built an entire career as a cherrypicker from having 3 Hall of Famers to draw attention away from him on both ends. The Celtics are not truly better than.the Knicks right now anyway (losing Kendrick Perkins and even Glen Davis really hurt the once vaunted Celtics interior defense).

If you remove Irving, Rose, or Rondo from their teams, their teams keep winning and sometimes get better. Remove Lin and the Knicks are a lottery team, regardless of his stats. Lin is the most important player to his team's winning percentage in the entire NBA, and that's why fans of all ethnicities are so excited about him.

Now let's find Lin a young minimum wage backup pg from the minor leagues who actually has major league talent. Give me Scottie Reynolds (a true NBA pg talent) or Ben Hansbrough (plays like a white Jeremy Lin).

  18. Here is two reasons why Jeremy Lin is an all-star.

    1. He is the team's MVP.
    2. He is proven in every stage of his career he is just MONEY on important games. BC & Connecticut in college. His stint when he gets meaningful minutes (garbage time doesn't count). His game versus the Lakers - 38 points! are you kidding me. The last shot versus Raptors.

Just stating the obvious - he is about the big stage. He loves it. He focuses harder when at that stage. He is a winner.

  20. INTANGIBLES!!!:

Think again. Of the metrics listed above, three stand out above all others. First, Jeremy Lin's defensive rating (DefRtg) of 93.2 and net rating (NetRtg) of 13.7 were the best in the entire NBA D-League. That means that while Lin was on the floor, his team gave up the fewest points per 100 possessions and outscored their opponents by the largest margin per 100 possessions.

When Lin was on the floor last season, the Bighorns outscored their opponents by an average of 13.7 points per 100 possessions, 11.4 MORE than they did when he was on the bench. Although Lin helped with his team's ball movement (59% of FGM were assisted with him on the floor versus just over 54% when he wasn't ), Lin's presence made the Bighorns only marginally better offensively (they scored roughly 107 points per 100 possessions with him on the floor versus 104 points with him off the floor and their TS% was essentially unchanged).

Surprisingly -- knowing what we know now -- Lin's impact was most profound on the defensive end, where his Bighorns yielded almost 9 fewer points per 100 possessions with him on the floor, shaving the team's DefRtg from a pedestrian 101.8 to a sterling 93.2. Perhaps this indicates that beyond Lin's ability to facilitate offense, he could potentially help bolster the Knicks' team defense (one of the teams' perennial weaknesses) as well.

    1. And from my memory of watching his Big Horns game last year:

      1) the one game he played with Steve Novak (signed same day, played with Lin in Idaho Stampede game, and called up by Spurs after game), it was just more than just Lin's drives getting Novak open - he seems to get the ball to Novak on the number and in rhythm so Novak could shoot comfortably

      2) I forgot it Coach Musselman made the comment after this specific game, but I think he said watching the Lin / Green / Novak combo was beautiful because it was only time he didn't need to coach and just sat back and watched 3 smart players interact with each other.

  21. Lin is good, but not ready to become an all-star yet. He turns the ball over too many times. He has averaged 6 turnovers per game.

Playing 7 games is not enough to make any person an all-star. We remember Houston winning 20+ games straight. If was a team effort, not about one guy trying to do too much to win.

I say no on all-star. However, he can make the all-star game next season.
