Knicks vs Nets

I believe Jordan Farmar is a great match up for Jeremy. He is vet savy but not ultra quick. If Jeremy gets backup pg minutes tonight, look for him to have a breakout game.

  1. Well fellas this is probably his last game to show what he got for the knicks all the decision will be maid from this game. I hope he will come out hot and shows that he does belong in the NBA. If not he will be cut from the team. Comon Lin show us all that u belong in the NBA. Go ou there and do it all eyes are on you tonight!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. For those waiting for the Knicks - Nets game to start, may I suggest rewatching some of Jeremy's 1/20 triple double with the Erie Bayhawks in D-League Futurecast archives (http://www.nba.com/dleague/erie/index_main.html)?

Yeah, he put up gaudy numbers in the first quarter, but it was the third quarter and last few minutes of the fourth quarter where Lin showed his value, especially at the NBA level (running second unit if D'Antoni can put pieces complementary to Lin in with him).

Maine Red Claws made multiple pushes in third quarter, but Lin led Bayhawks kept just standing there, willing to take the punch, and then counterpunch. Red Claws finally broke when they started chucking threes at beginning of the fourth.

I think Tony Douglas is now gun-shy (start this YouTube video clip around 50 second mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6TPkPovUw0&feature=related) and is unwilling to take the punch (drive into paint) to open up his teammates with dribble drive.

Lin and DJ Kennedy also looked really good as a backcourt combo (just like Lin looked really good with Danny Greene when he was with Big Horns).

  6. JL tearing it up so far.

He played some great defense on Deron Williams (you read that right). And once Melo left the game, he started running the offense. Layup, steal, fastbreak assist, bounce-pass for a dunk.

Keep it up, Jeremy! This is your biggest "spotlight" game yet.

Also, this is pretty funny, J-Lin has just as many points as Amare, with 3 times as many rebounds, more steals and more assists, less fouls, less turnovers and better field goal percentage. LOL <--- This is all true but I'm just messing around haha

  24. Easy guys.

Before you write him off/in as a starter, take a deep breath and remember that this is Lin's third real NBA game and his first test against an All Star pg in Deron Williams. Plus, Lin is the only player on the court who might not even be IN the NBA in one week!

Just be thankful that D'Antoni put Lin out there. Deron Williams is a tough matchup for anybody, let alone Lin who has barely played the NBA sum of a single game this season.

The most important thing is that Lin helped bring his team back in the first half. All NBA teams make adjustments in the 2nd half, so let's see what happens. Lin has already had a.solid game thus far.

    ReplyDelete
  25. watching JLin is like watching a boxing match, any second someone's going down. If it was shumpert and TG in, they would've been down 15 points already and the crowd would've given up. JLin keeps you believing and you see he REALLY tries hard. I would say besides his shots tonight, this is by far his best game in the NBA ever.

  37. I need to follow my own breathing advice.

Lin is DOMINATING. He's outplaying Deron Williams. An undrafted 2nd year 12th man is KILLING one of the NBA's best point guards this game. The Knicks are winning and Lin has filled up the stat sheet as if HE was the All Star.

I have been repeatedly criticized for daring to say that Lin has All Star potential. For all I know, Lin could be out of the NBA by next week and he'll never play another minute of pro ball again. But for this night, Lin played like an All Star would have against another All Star.

Tonight was Jeremy Lin's breakout game (and the game isn't even over yet). Let's hope he does not get waived next week.

    5. Uh, Lin HAS been playing like this all along.

Lin is at the top of the NBA in several statistical categories on a per minute basis. He hasn't been given much playing time, but he has dominated in those minutes. Today was more minutes, so more domination.

Lin scored 12 points and scored the game sealing layup. None of us at jeremylin.net are surprised. Lin has been dominating the ends of games since HIGH SCHOOL. In every league he has played in, Lin has been unbelievably clutch when the game is on the line.

By the way, I would not say that Steve Nash has been "playing like this for the last 16 years". When he came into the NBA with the Suns, Nash was incredibly inconsistent as a young player behind Jason Kidd and Kevin Johnson. In Nash's.dirst years in Dallas, fans openly questioned whether he had NBA ability.because of his lack of production. Once Dirk Nowitzki hit his stride, Nash finally became an All Star. It took many years for Steve Nash to become a reliable rotation player.

Lin's career night leads Knicks over Nets, 99-92

    By BRIAN MAHONEY

NEW YORK (AP) Jeremy Lin scored a career-high 25 points and the New York Knicks salvaged the finale of a back-to-back-to-back set by beating the New Jersey Nets 99-92 on Saturday night.
Lin came off the bench to control a struggling offense, adding seven assists while outplaying Nets All-Star point guard Deron Williams.

  65. Many of here are NOT surprised by today's outburst.

The die hard rabid Lin fans have been clamoring for him to play. That is not because of his.ethnicity, but because of his massive production in limited minutes. The only difference between before and now is that Lin simply received more minutes.

I fully expect NBA teams to clamp down on Lin after today. They will play him for the jump shot and seek to trap him when he penetrates. Of course, the Knicks coaches should be.countering by putting Lin into the best spots.

The Linsanity will settle down. When it does, Lin will be what we here already know he is: a good solid pg who is a NBA backup at worst and a potentially good starter.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Agreed. I don't support JL just because he's Asian-American and went to Harvard, but because he really truly seems like he can play.

Also, Jeremy was smarter dealing with traps and pressure today. He doesn't have Rondo's handles and he's not gonna get reach-in fouls from refs. So what did he do? He passed the ball to a teammate, let them bring it up the floor, and then got it back in the half-court. That's fine. Not ideal, but fine.

And as someone has said before, JL should then work on a spin dribble during practice and the offseason.

      Delete
    2. That was me who suggested the spin dribble.

I am not expecting Lin to become the next Earl Monroe by spinning around every defender that crosses his path. Rather, I would like to see Lin be able to drible out of a trap by reversing his direction with a spin dribble. This would particularly true when teams squeeze him on the baseline in order to force him the dribble through a doubleteam. If Lin could escape the baseline and spin away from the defense, teams would not be able to trap him as easily.

There is nothing wrong with using a two guard front like today to bring up the.ball. The biggest fan of a two guard front is ex Bulls/Lakers coach Phil Jackson. He wrote that good defensive teams would press and destroy teams that had just one player to dribble the ball upcourt. Championship teams often involve all five players in getting the ball from baseline to baseline.

      Delete
  66. Watch the game on Yes - Lin still need to work on long range shot and 3 pointer. No one else seem to be able to run pick and roll, that alone should give Jeremy some solid rotation minutes in near future. With Nash Amare was top scoring pick-a-roll player and Knick need to continue trying utilized that with Chandler and Amare.

    1. I'm not worried about his jumper, though. He's really improved his shooting stroke; he just needs more reps and playing time. Notice how JL made his last two jumpers after bricking his first six. Once you settle down and shoot it confidently, they will start going down. Not saying he'll be Steve Nash out there, but he capable of shooting a half-decent clip from 18-25 feet.

  67. The Knicks can improve Lin's perimeter jumpshooting by guaranteeing his contract this season.

  68. I don't think there's been this many comments after a game with JLin ever. I don't think JLin will start a game, but I think all the media press will finally get the knicks rolling as a real team. 76. His defense will be what keeps him on the court. The warriors knew that last year (see Monta's comment to Matt steinmetz at the end of last season) and he just needed time to learn the system with the Knicks. Anything he does on offense is a plus - his job is to get the Knicks scorers scoring and if he does that he should play decent rotation minutes. You can see the team feed of his energy when he plays defense. I can't blame dantoni for being cautious since his job is on the line but now he can say 'what the hell' and go with whatever is working and that right now is Lin running his pick n roll transition gun offense

  77. I do not fault Dantoni for not playing Lin more.

Dantoni has been trying to figure out which one of his guards with guaranteed contracts can play pg (answer: none). Plus, Lin was brought in to be a practice punching bag off waivers. Coaches should not automatically hand minutes to waiver wire acquisitions who have been cut by two previous teams in one season and have never played.meaningful NBA minutes.

Dantoni gave Lin garbage time, which is more than Lin got in Golden State and Houston. He even gave him rotation minutes against Houston and Boston. Today Dantoni did the gutsy thing by playing an undrafted waiver wire dumpee against an All NBA pg guard, and the undrafted player took the All Star to school.

Dantoni is far from perfect, but he fully deserves credit for playing Lin this game.

  79. I came back here just to post again. This time I will attempt to be more analytical.

    PROGRESS
This game was huge for both the Knicks and Lin. Having your team's support goes leaps and bounds for an unestablished young player. He won't have to look over his shoulder to see if he is being pulled out after making a mistake now.

A great example of this was when he took two jumpers in a row during a single Knicks possesion. He caught the ball on the left wing and missed a long jumper. After an offensive rebound by NY, he had another good look from the right side and even though he missed that shot as well, he shot them with confidence.

    NEEDS WORK
No one here claims Lin is a gunner. He is an average shooter at best and teams will test him until he proves he can knock down 20 footers at a respectable clip. I personally believe this is the reason he was not given a chance at both Golden State and in New York until now as both teams demand that their PG be a good shooter.

Lin at times plays a little out of control, both offensively with turnovers as well as defensively with his fouls but he will improve with more experience as these silly plays are rookie mistakes. The telling tale of whether he carves out a career as a serviceable backup or whether he earns a starter's spot will be his (in)ability to calculate the arc of his shots and direct their trajectory into the basket from 20 feet out.

    TEBOW EFFECT
Jeremy Lin mentioned he would like to be a pastor once he is done with basketball. When the media picks up on this, we could really see a mini-Tebow mania occur.

Whether you are Asian, religious, one of, or neither, it is hard not to root for this underdog. He has been a true professional since day one, always staying humble and always working hard.

  82. Lin is most likely starting on Monday as D'Antoni stated in an interview and in article by Bloomberg. Should be interesting to see if Jeremy can keep the energy alive.

“He missed about three or four wide-open shots and we were struggling,” D’Antoni said at a televised postgame news conference. “In his position, without a lot of experience, that could have crumbled most people, but he took it again and he took it again and he got it right. I just thought it showed a lot of mental toughness.”
With the Knicks in need of help at point guard as Baron Davis continues to recover from a back injury, D’Antoni said he is leaning toward starting Lin for the Knicks’ home game tomorrow against the Utah Jazz.
