This is a very accurate, thorough, and insightful piece. With so much JLin stuff out there now, you've got to sort through some junk. Also, thanks a bunch to Jonathan Lehman for mentioning us and our site here!
The MORONS saying Lin can't play D, or the subtle bigotry sayinng he's "deceptively athletic", are the same stupid "experts" who were wrong on Lin his entire life. Lin got no D-I offers, went undrafted. Basketball is sorely behind on MONEYBALL-type players like Jeremy Lin. Jeremy has overcome a lot of prejudice/discrimination in his journey.
This pre-draft analysis crushes any claim Lin was an unpredictable success rather than a discrimination victim. It nails both his strengths & weaknesses. http://hoopsanalyst.com/blog/?p=487 College and NBA still relies on prejudiced opinions, scouts are completely behind on Moneyball. Jeremy Lin was a victim of prejudice, no D-I offers for college and undrafted.
Heres an article about Stanford lying to Jeremy Lin saying they don't have a scholarship to give to him. http://www.zagsblog.com/2012/02/10/coach-says-jeremy-lin-was-misled-by-stanford-coach/
This is pretty funny. One of Jeremy Lin's old HS coaches has owned Linsanity.com for a few years now, in preparation for when Jeremy would blow up. If you don't want to buy Lin jerseys or shirts off of NBA.com, go to their site. They have a bunch of different T shirts with words on them, it looks like they're 16 bucks each.
why is there no comment on the minnesota twolves game tonight? i'm worried about this game b/c it's a perfect let down situation for jeremy lin and 2nd game of a back to back.
don't worry so much about Jeremy, he will do fine.. he has already won a starting point guard job.. he may have a game where his is not at his best and the coach knows that its just his fifth game as a starter..
Bad news for you all tonight. The Knicks are 6.5 point underdogs tonight. Vegas doesn't like the Knicks chances after playing a tiring game last night. If Jeremy pulls this one off, I will be even more shocked (if possible). Let's go.
Talent evaluators take note: you have got to do your homework especially when you've got a guy on your own team, granted who is a rookie and siting on the bench, who can ball like Lin does. Golden state made a huge mistake! They were sleep walking through their season not noticing him. Even when they sent him to the D-league and he was averaging around 18, 6, and 4. Just the numbers alone tells you the guy is active on the ball and around the ball even without watching film. Now comes the homework part, did they even watch films of Lin and see the skill set that he has? Every single game you will see Lin stripping the ball out of an opponents hand, his knowledge of the pick and roll and the angles he takes, his quarterback's vision, and his smarts to work on his weaknesses each and every game. Lin has improved certain aspects of his game every time he's played on an exponential level. Why is it that the nba has just noticed? Like Kobe said, " a guy doesn't just come out of nowhere like that. His skill set has always been there but nobody noticed". It's because the talent evaluators bought into the Asian stereotype that, ala coach D'antoni, "He is too slow, can't shoot and can't finish". There is a disconnect somewhere. How can you not recognize that Lin creates positive havoc both offensively and defensively on the court. He can dribble all around the defense at will just like the best of them such as Steve, Nash, Chris Paul, and Deron Williams. Only a few guards can truly do that and do it consistently. His motor, legs, are constantly turning and it's all toward the basket without waisted movements. The shot clock doesn't run out on him like alot of guards who can't set up the offense or can't even get the ball to their teammate. You don't have to be fast or be super athletic to have success. Look at some of the greats like Larry Bird, Steve Nash, and yes even Magic Johnson. When you've got sound fundamentals and has game you deserve minutes especially when you're paying the man. Let's see what he can do. Golden State really blew it big time. Houston made a disappointing choice too, considering Kevin Mchale did commentary on the summer games Lin played in. He saw it first hand. Regrets galore. I'm really happy for Lin doing his homework, and disappointed in all the talent evaluators for not doing theirs.
mt, this behaviour does not only exist in the NBA, it's become the reason why the US is failing at everything. Companies like GM, Bank of America, Citigroup, Lehman Bros all were doing the same fatal actions. What I mean is by what you said, there was hardly any real work being done. The big salaried guys only were in it to collect the paycheck and go home doing little work as possible. This is still going on and the NBA is one of the key examples. Look at someone like Keith Smart. Do you think he even cares about whos's playing in college right now? They dont. They are just living day to day focusing on the short term without any respect for the future. This is why the US is close to collapse. There needs to be a change in the system.
It's a real-life feel good sports story; maybe Justin Lin can write and direct a Jeremy Lin movie when he has time. Here are some great videos to watch, especially for all the fans here on this site who have been with Jeremy since college or summer league.
Someone should make a video with Eminem's 'Lose Yourself' song, about capitalizing on your one chance, one opportunity. That encapsulates Jeremy's life at every level.
Anybody know where to get some Lin t-shirts besides linsanity.com? I found a pretty nice looking one at www.teamlinsanity.com. Anybody ordered from them before?
