Looks like Charlie Bell is under suspicion of DUI, Acie Law is hurting, and Monta has an upset stomach (not at shoot around). Could JLin get major minutes tonight against the Bulls? Wow! Wow! Wow!
I would have rather seen him play the second Idaho game, then get called up.
Throwing him into game without any practice with Warriors might not be best way to introduce Lin back to Warriors fan base.
He's a smart kid, so hopefully he adapts well, doesn't try and do much, and just let the stuff that comes to him naturally (superb off ball help defense, getting tips and deflections, occasional steals, and triggering transition offense after getting rebound)develop during game.
I was hoping to watch him play for Reno tonight. That team is really gelling around him and Patrick O'Bryant.
Coach Smart will probably keep JLin on the bench or the inactive roster, then send him back down to D-League after Acie Law barely recovers. This sucks.
Totally disagree. Any time he has a chance to play in the NBA we should be excited. Let's see what happens if Jeremy is given the chance in extended minutes. If he doesn't play much better than Acie Law has, he can go back down one more time to the D League. I believe the front office can see the type of impact he can make. Of course, the circumstances forced this.
Lin's game has been improving a lot. I the last game against Idaho, the had a lot of good passes and cut down his turnovers. He even scored in different ways. Hopefully this will translate to the NBA.
I agree with JLinFan#1. He has been improving so much in the D-League, but it won't matter if it doesn't translate to the NBA. I think he will have to get minutes tonight (esp if it is a blow out) and we can see if the D-League made a difference or not.
The subtle things Lin does will translate well to the NBA, as well as triggering transition offense when he gets a defensive rebound.
Being able to drive to the hoop for layup at will won't be there, so he will have to depend upon keeping defenders off balance by mixing up straight drives to the hoop, pass to teammate (his signature bounce pass in traffic should work well if he has athletic teammates that cut to the basket without the ball like Danny Green), and some pull up jumpers.
I think his value to a team can be seen in his second game against Texas, both recent games at Bakersfield, and the Idaho game last night.
He isn't going to be able to do what he did against Springfield when he is going up against 5 NBA caliber defenders.
I still think he would, overall, develop faster and more completely, in the D-League, and under the tutelage of Coach Musselman.
against the bulls? they are going to get trashed. i don't wan lin to be in a game where smart can blame lin for a huge lost. we all saw how smart blamed lin for the starter's bad performances in the first quarters and when they were on a losing streak against the toughest teams while on the road. and we all saw how smart over hyped law after wins against awful teams like minnisota and sacramento. i am absolutely against lin getting called back and used like this.
"anyone got a link to watch the warriors game live?" or you can watch it here at my nba blog: http://sporttychannels.blogspot.com/2011/02/chicago-bulls-vs-golden-state-warriors.html
I think I found a partial answer. But what's the Warriors blackout policy?
"Usually archive games will be available 30 minutes after the game is over. Please remember, the Broadband Blackout rules are also in effect for the archives. If a game was blackedout live, it will also be blacked out in the archives."
There's a chance that Acie Law will suit up tonight. Knowing JLin is back, Law will be in uniform unless there's a cast on his wrist.
There are 2 things I like about this call-up:
- It's a chance to see JLin's progress compared to his play at the beginning of the season.
- The Bighorns are in a lighter part of their schedule where they mostly play back to back games then get the rest of the week off. JLin won't be missing a lot if Keith Smart sticks him on the bench. I actually trust the Bighorns more to help develop JLin's game. Any time spent with the Warriors coaching staff is a waste.
If Law suits up, it is unlikely Lin will unless they sit someone like Gadzuric. Also, I believe he can be sent up then down 3 times, so hopefully he gets a chance to show he belongs.
If Lin gets in, you know the fans will go crazy. Hopefully he will play the game he's developed with the Bighorns. When he does get in, we will find out a lot about his mental makeup and poise. My fingers are crossed.
Nope, that atdhe site doesn't work for me. JLin hasn't gotten any minutes yet and at this rate he may not get any depending on what Smart feels like doing to lose again. I hope someone can post highlights IF JLin does get to play today.
Smart is so dumb, why would you not play JLin now? This is the perfect time so the starters have a chance to rest for the 4th quarter and JLin has been hot on his shots so let him shoot to get points back. Watch the GSW are going to lose now because in the 4th quarter they're going to be tired and miss shots. Look at the Reno game today, they let Landry come later and he basically saved the Reno game with a ton of 3 pointers. Let Mussleman coach and the GSW may even have a chance to get in the playoffs.

Well good game by the GSW, at least it lets JLin see the type of atmosphere a sold-out crowd is compared to the empty D-League games. Smart can't just rely on Monta and Curry every game for 40+ minutes. Let JLin show his NBA worth!
This game was too big for Smart to risk putting in Lin and having folks second guess him if they lost. I think he would much rather have folks second guess him for burning out his stars.
I'm guessing Lin will stay with the W's for a while, especially if Law is hurt. It was surprising that Amundson wasn't suited up. Another possibility is there is a trade in the works. It could even involve Lin. My recollection is that the team can only reassign a player to the d-league 3 times.
That was a good game. I liked how the Warriors played defense.
I think it was a game too big to risk putting J-Lin in; remember, he just came off the D-league less than a day ago(?) and didn't really get a chance to practice with the other Warriors, who probably were practicing in their 3-day rest monday through wednesday. So yeah, it was good for Reggie to come in as a sub sometimes, and the starters played a good game.
Given the circumstances, I would question the judgement of a coach who did put in Lin for extended minutes after just a day back from D-League. He was more likely meant to be a 3rd string back-up.
"Smart can't just rely on Monta and Curry every game for 40+ minutes."
LOL, he can, and he will.
I hate to say "I told you so", cause I was hoping I was wrong about Lin not getting minutes. Not surprisingly, Smart's solution to losing a backup PG was to play Monta and Curry the entire game. Let's see how long Curry's ankle lasts with those kind of minutes.
Well, at least the Warriors fans can't blame Lin for a loss. Maybe they'll look to him as a lucky charm now.
Unless JLin is supremely better than his teammates which he is not, he is not going to get playing time under Smart. Remember in a preseason game Monta played all 53 minutes (48 + 5 in OT) and Jlin never took off his warmups. If that doesn't tell you something, I don't know what will. For Jlin to develop, there needs to be a change of heart for Smart or Mussleman or someone else takes over.
Lin should get some minutes soon. The Warriors have 3 more games between now and Friday when the Bighorns have a game, so he's likely going to stay with the big club until then. Of course, one never knows what Smart is going to do so nothing is guaranteed. It makes sense that Musselman doesn't have Lin starting because he isn't around for practice.
I don't know how Danny Green's specific game would translate to the NBA, but someone with his profile of size and skill set would be a perfect match for Lin as a backup point guard and shooting guard for some NBA teams.
Green is like a cornerback and Lin more like a free safety.
Green has a very good outside shot, but also moves well without the ball and cuts well to a spot where Lin can bounce pass to him while driving to the basket.
Still don't think Warriors, as currently constituted, and especially with Smart's offensive and defensive schemes, is a good match for Lin.
Danny Green would be a great backup shooting guard or undersized small forward. SF is the spot that Warriors are really lacking in depth right now. Dorell Wright had to play all 48 minutes against Chicago.
Yes, I think Danny Green and Lin complement each other very well.
Put an athletic big who plays good D and who is willing to run with them in transition and you have a core for a very solid second team at the NBA level.
Anthony Richardson is jack rabbit quick and is super athletic and can clean up Lin's misses near basket, but I don't know if he is strong enough to go up against really good NBA frontlines.
Danny Green is a good all around player. I am a Carolina fan so I've watched him since college. He's a tenacious defender and plays with high IQ and motor, just like JLin. But he's a very streaky outside shooter, and I question his shot selection sometimes.
I just watched Saturday's Bighorns/Stampede game on futurecast. The Stampede announcers were still raving about JLin after he's gone to Oakland. They had more good things to say about JLin than their own Blazers PG assignee. That's just great!
The second unit is clearly not as effective without JLin. The signing of Navak is huge in so many ways. The timing is excellent, they didn't give up anyone for him, he is definitely the best shooter in all of d-league.
Monta Ellis is not going to be hot with his shots all the time and when that time comes, they will need their backup players. David Lee hasn't been as effective as somelike like P. Gasol so I think they are really lacking a stronger forward/center so I agree that the GSW probably isn't the best team for JLin now since for the rest of the season it will be the Curry and Ellis show.
The key to beating the Bulls (And many teams) was keeping Derek Rose out of the paint. That is something that JLin can do.
I notice that the Reno Bighorns barely beat the Idaho Stampede by 2 points, and that was from Donald Sloan getting bailed out with 2 foul shots. JLin's production off the bench (17ppg 4.5 assists) will surely be missed.
that's what i kept saying all this time. lin's defense at the point position is a major advantage for a team that knows how to utilizes it. in today's league, there are so many talented young point guards who can score and make plays for their teammates. if you can keep theses guys (rose, paul, westbrook, wall, rondo, curry) from getting inside the paint, you've already won half the battle. what's even better is lin is very good at denying the opposing point guards the ball in the first place. teams become confused and disoriented when the ball is out of their point guard's hands. they can't run most of their designed plays.
I would have rather seen him play the second Idaho game, then get called up.

Anyone know if you can watch non-live/past games with NBA League Pass (like Futurecast Archives?)
ReplyDeleteAlso, do home games get blacked out? If so, do they become available when the game is archived?
