Lin needs one more point for his first double-digit scoring game. Let's see if he can get it -- just attack the rim, J-Lin. Solid D even for garbage time -- good close out and max effort.
13 points for Lin!! Congrats JL. First decent scoring game after missing a ton of jumpers. 11 points on 4-9 shooting. Like how he didn't back down despite missing a bunch of jumpers. Nice step forward.
He also made some solid (nothing special) passes that his big men couldn't finish.
what i didn't like was his jumpers. he made the first one but then missed the rest. but he sure is a smart kid. he didn't let that keep him down, instead he concentrated on playing hard nose defense and attacked the rim. he made 5-5 ft's and i think a couple of and-1's. the steals were automatic. his drives are pretty solid too. what i really liked was how he blocked out the big for a rebound. and how matt barnes could not post him up effectively. shows how strong lin is.
It was garbage time, but the Lakers JV squad is the league's best and you can bet guys like Brown, Walton, Barnes, Blake, and Vujacic are playing for their minutes, too.
Other than an ugly 3 point shot, this was a nice step forward for Jeremy. He did a great job taking care of the ball and running the offense though the A/T won't show it. Similarly, his 13 points is a nice number, but doesn't mean that much considering it's garbage time.
His defense remains the most impressive thing. He learns so quickly and adjusts. Fisher got him in the air and hit a jumper, but after that, JL made sure not to overcommitt on his man and stayed in his man's face for the rest of the game. He also closed on his man every time and came inside to help without leaving room for kick-out passes.
Lol, I think JL was thinking the same thing! I saw him hesitate for a second and the layup kinda rattled in. Probably because he thought about dunking it. Still, when you're getting blown out on the road, it's better to be humble and just lay it up and in -- if you're a point guard it'll look like hot-dogging.
It took a 30 point blowout and an injury to Monta Ellis but finally some minutes. BTW ellis did not show up even before the thigh bruise.
I loved the improvement in Lin's defense in the 4th, you could tell he gained more confidence with time. Shakey at first with d-fish and Blake but lockdown and getting through screens with ease in the 4th, particularly on Sasha. Seemed automatic from the line too, solid D and the ability to get to the line and convert should easily earn more minutes...I hope. Nice boxout on one play too.
What was up with Charlie bell? Did he not want to play basketball tonight? Two easy assists for Lin vanished with his wide open 3-point "pass" and triple hop step on an easy 2 on 1 break.
Bell is really struggling with confidence and focus. He was supposed to be backup SG, but they tried to make him backup PG. And that failed. Now he's behind Lin on the depth chart. Feel bad for the guy...Warriors have no use for him. They should package him in a trade for something, anything. .
Even though JL missed some jumpers, he took them confidently and his form looked better (except on the 3 attempt). At least he made one mid-range shot tonight. Good to get that monkey off his back.
Anyway, his game is attacking the rim anyway. And he looked so much better tonight. Getting the and-one, not blowing the gimme layups, and drawing fouls like a vet.
Finally.
ReplyDeleteFIRST JUMPER MADE!! Heh.
The dude can't hit the broadside of the barn yet, but man, Lin is a steal machine. SHEESH. Another 2 picks already.
ReplyDeleteLIN attacks the rim...AND ONE!!. Nice. Get back to basics, Jeremy.

ReplyDeleteLin is +5 right now cbell is +2 and everyone else is in the negatives. Go JLin!!

ReplyDeleteLin was wide open under the basket, Reggie didn't see him and almost turned it over. Ugh. Not everyone went to Harvard, I guess.
ReplyDeletealso it is garbage time though keep in mind.. eff rating doesnt mean as much

Smart will probably still not play Lin much after this game unless Ellis is out for a long time.

What's the word on Monta Ellis ? If he misses tomorrow's game, maybe we will see a lot more of JLin as early as the 2nd quarter.
