Haha. Seriously, though, if Lin ever becomes a starter -- and that might be a huge "if" -- I guarantee you he will lead the league in steals. Even the fouls he racked up last night had nothing to do with gambling on steals.
If Lin can just calm his heart-rate and finish those drives to the hoop like he can, I think he could someday put up Rondo-type numbers. He's not half as quick or smooth obviously, but he's bigger and doesn't brick FTs and could put up similar numbers. By that I mean, imagine Lin in four years putting up a season like: 15ppg (~48%FG) / 8apg / 5rpg / 2.5spg / 3TOs.
the problem with statistics is that they're thrown around by people with no understanding of statistics, such as sports announcers and the NBA. even with two games into a season, announcers are saying stuff like "monta ellis is averaging 30 ppg" like it means something. with an n=2, the standard error of the mean is huge, which means it's very likely his ppg currently is nowhere close to what his ppg will be by the end of the season. i'm probably overreacting, but it bothers me to see conclusions made upon small sample sizes.
Basically, Smart says Reggie and Bell as backup isn't working ("they need to play at their position") JL will be important until Curry is healthy. So watch for Jeremy to get 10-15mpg against Memphis.
Monta was friendly trashing-talking JL about "playing scared" -- which is a nice move on his part. JL needs to attack the rim like he owns it, and take that mid-range jumper without hesitating. His jumpshot isn't a strength, but he's gotta let it fly when he's wide open.
They will probably start Reggie Williams and Monta Ellis in the backcourt again, with mixed results. But we should see more minutes for Lin. And now he knows to commit less fouls. So he will stay in the game longer.
Fans need to chill and mellow out. The reason why he's being more productive on the road ... is because there isn't such a frenzy everytime he touches the ball.
It's a fun stat for sure, but Lin has been very smart with the passing lanes and aggressive on hustle plays. To me, that's the reason why he belongs to the NBA, the ability to "read" the court. His Js will come around as well, he's just focusing on one part of the O game right now, which is to get everyone involved. By the time he can do that on a very natural basis, he'll pick-up his Js and others.

Those numbers seem kind of arbitrary.
ReplyDeleteI just mean solid, but not flashy numbers that don't tell the whole story (about JL's hustle and defense).

Um, he's not gonna start. He might get the same kind of minutes he did against the Lakers, though.

ReplyDeleteJLin definitely needs to get his shooting to an NBA-level. His FG% is only .143 He's got to become more comfortable and confident.
